Stephen King remakes have had varying levels of success, with some successfully updating storytelling techniques and visual effects. While there are solid remakes like "It" and "Pet Sematary," there are also ones that fail to capture the atmosphere of the original films. The best Stephen King remakes showcase strong performances, updated visuals, and stay true to the essence of his stories. "It Chapter One" is considered the best remake so far.
Most of the prolific adaptations of horror author Stephen King came out in the '80s and are considered classics, but several modern Stephen King movie and TV remakes have debuted in recent years. Hollywood rarely gets Stephen King right, and many of King's movies and series have been of varying quality over the decades, and recent adaptations have provided the opportunity for updated storytelling techniques and improved visual effects. While horror heavy-hitters like Universal and Blumhouse are making solid Stephen King remakes,...

Writer/director Kurt Wimmer’s recently released take on the Stephen King short story Children of the Corn is described as being a remake, but it’s different enough from the source material and the two previous adaptations – released in 1984 and 2009 – that you could really just call it “another Children of the Corn movie”. But whatever you call it, it went over pretty well with us here at JoBlo / Arrow in the Head. You can read Tyler Nichols’ 8/10 review at This Link, watch his interview with Wimmer and stars Elena Kampouris and Kate Moyer Here, and watch him discuss the film with fellow fan Mike Conway over Here. So we’re glad to share the news that the new Children of the Corn will be receiving a VOD, DVD, and Blu-ray release soon. The VOD release date is the closest; as of March 21st you’ll be able to watch the movie Here.

Last week, a new video series called Modern Horror Movie Talk made its premiere on the Arrow in the Head Show YouTube channel. With each episode of this show, we’ll be joining host Tyler Nichols as he covers all new horror releases, the latest horror movie news, and new horror trailers. Films discussed in the first episode of Modern Horror Movie Talk included Cocaine Bear, Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving, and The Pope’s Exorcist. Now the second episode of Modern Horror Movie Talk is online, and in this one Tyler is joined by special guest Mike Conway to discuss the new Children of the Corn movie, which was just released last week. To find out what Tyler and Mike had to say about Children of the Corn, check out the video embedded above!

Having filmed in 2020, it’s surprising that it took so long for us to finally receive the Children of the Corn remake. Usually, when that happens, it spells disaster for the film. But having the seen the film (check out my review here) I can say that it’s very fun and beautifully shot. I know I’m in the minority but I had a blast. So I was absolutely geeked to sit down with director Kurt Wimmer (who made the cult classic Equilibrium) and stars Elena Kampouris and Kate Moyer to discuss this film. I’m already really rooting for this film to find its audience because I genuinely had a lot of fun with it. Check out the interview above!

Nearly three years have gone by since we first heard that Equilibrium writer/director Kurt Wimmer was at the helm of a new adaptation of the Stephen King short story Children of the Corn – and the project (which was filmed in Australia) was one of the few productions that didn’t have to shut down during the first wave of pandemic lockdowns back in early 2020. In October of 2020, the movie was given a theatrical release… in just two theatres in Sarasota, Florida. But now we finally know when those of us who didn’t see the movie in Sarasota are going to have the chance to watch it. Wimmer’s Children of the Corn has been acquired by Shudder and Rlje Films and will be getting an 18 day theatrical release beginning on March 3rd. A digital and VOD release will follow on March 21st.

There can’t be many examples of this – Kurt Wimmer, whose credits include writing and directing Equilibrium, has wrapped production on a feature film shot on set entirely during the lockdown.
This project is a yet-to-be-titled reimagining of Stephen King’s short story Children Of The Corn, which has already spawned 10 feature movies prior to this one, and shot in Australia. It originally went into production in New South Wales at the beginning of March. When the Covid-19 pandemic forced productions to shutdown across the world (few of which have resumed yet), the producers say they consulted with local body Screen Nsw, which was a major investor in the pic, and decided to progress.
Collaborating with Safe Work Nsw and film safety expert Jon Heaney, they drew up a reconfigured shoot schedule and methodology that implemented health and safety measures for the entire production. As they were already on set together,...

Kurt Wimmer’s reimagining of “Children of the Corn” has completed its coronavirus-defying shoot in Australia. The filmmakers employed stringent health and safety protocols, and multiple insurance policies.
The producers revealed the previously undisclosed cast of young actors, with Elena Kampouris (“Before I Fall”) and Kate Moyer (“When Hope Calls”) starring. They are accompanied by Australian talent Callan Mulvey (“Avengers: Endgame”) and Bruce Spence (“The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”).
“You can theorize all you like about safety protocols, but until you get on set, you don’t really know. But I can now tell you it is impossible to keep a camera crew 1.5 meters apart,” producer Lucas Foster (“Ford v Ferrari”) told Variety.
Principal photography began in New South Wales in early March, when the Covid-19 outbreak forced the majority of productions around the world to shut down.
“We ended up taking hundreds of measures.

If you read our "Class of 1986" issue of Deadly Magazine from earlier this year, then you know Richard Wenk’s Vamp is a film that is near and dear to my horror-loving heart. The 1980s were an exceptional time for vampire-themed cinema, with films like Fright Night, The Lost Boys, Near Dark, and The Hunger immediately capturing the imaginations of filmgoers during that era. But the one film that has been grossly overlooked over the last 30 years has been Vamp, and it’s great to see Wenk’s incredibly clever and funny take on a very popular sub-genre celebrated in grand fashion with the recent Special Edition Blu-Ray release from Arrow Video.
For the uninitiated, Vamp follows college students Keith (Chris Makepeace) and Aj (Robert Rusler), who are desperate to move into their fraternity house to escape dorm life, but before they can start packing their bags, they’re tasked...

In an effort to get into a fraternity two friends, Keith (Chris Makepeace) and Aj (Robert Rusler) travel to the ‘wrong side of town’ to find a stripper to hire for a college party. Taking along the nerdy Duncan (Gedde Watanabe), simply because he has a car, they find that beneath the already seedy surface lies an even seedier underbelly of vampires in the After Dark strip club. The club is run by the sleazy Vic (Sandy Baron) and the star attraction is the frightening Katrina (Grace Jones).
Vamp boasts a cast of cult eighties stars, including Robert Rusler (Weird Science, Thrashin’), Chris Makepeace (Meatballs), Gedde Watanabe (Sixteen Candles) and Deedee Pfeiffer (That’s right, Michelle’s sister) and the inclusion of the iconic and extravagant Grace Jones as a key vampire/stripper also represents a pretty inspired piece of casting.

Donald P. Borchers produced the original Children of the Corn and in later years wasn.t very happy with it. He decided to return to corn country and redo the Stephen King short story. Sometimes .He who walks behind the rows. should just stay behind the rows. In 1975, bickering married couple Burt (David Anders) and Vicky (Kandyse McClure) are heading for divorce. That.s pretty obvious from their fighting, but at the moment they.re also heading through Nebraska corn country. They hit a child on the back roads, but it appears that the young boy had his throat slit before he stumbled into the road. They put the body in their trunk and head for the nearest town, Gatlin.

Children of The Corn Directed by Donald P. Borchers In what's being marketed as a "rebirth," Children of the Corn revisits the 80's classic that spawned 6 sequels and countless amounts of children to fear those long weekends in the country. There's a trend happening again in the Horror genre. A trend that makes a strong case that children are complete creeps. Not only are they capable of being annoying little brats but it seems that in every town, city, county or home, there's at least one twisted little monster, who in between playing with Trouble the pop-omatic bubble game dreams of popping your skull open and feasting upon the meat of your brain. Word of advice: Don't have kids and don't trust kids, they'll just try to kill you. Children of the Corn, if anything, reaffirms these wise words as well as gives us the much needed visceral satisfaction of brutal violence towards kiddies,...

One of the motivations for writer/director/producer Donald P. Borchers to do the Children Of The Corn remake that just aired on Syfy was to create an adaptation more faithful to Stephen King’s chilling short story than the one he produced back in 1984. But the movie’s DVD (coming October 6 from Anchor Bay) reveals another reason: This film is a Statement as well.
In an on-camera interview, Borchers proclaims that he wanted this interpretation of King’s tale of a youthful rural cult to be a parable about religious extremism and the current crisis in the Middle East. This is no doubt why the new Children (following a 1963-set prologue) takes place in 1975, so that protagonist Burt (David Anders) can be a Vietnam veteran, a key source of the tension between him and wife Vicky (Kandyse McClure) during their drive through the Nebraska farmlands. Just months before Linda Hamilton battled The Terminator in 1984, she fought for her life against the Children Of The Corn, led by Isaac (John Franklin), one of the genre’s creepiest kids ever. Children is one of over 50 adaptations of Stephen King stories to have been released over the years, and it remains a cult favorite. It has spawned six sequels (including Isaac’S Return) and been given the remake treatment (please, Hollywood, stop!) by one of the original’s producers, Donald P. Borchers, for a forthcoming Syfy TV premiere—and now it’s back on an Anchor Bay Blu-ray, which will first be available exclusively at Best Buy June 30 ahead of its general release August 25.

For those of you excited for Sci Fi Channel's remake of Children Of The Corn, today the Sci Fi Wire caught up with Kandyse ("Battlestar Galactica") McClure who plays Dualla in the film written and directed by original producer Donald P. Borchers. Read on for some bits and pieces about her role and to see what type of film she thinks this is. What hurt the most about the interview was when McClure explained that the remake won't be that violent (damn TV movies!). "Well, violent ..., I don't actually think it's going to be that violent, in terms of what you actually see happening, kind of graphic violence," she tells Sci Fi Wire. "I think we're trying for the psychological thriller, for the implied violence. It is pretty gory. I have to say there's a lot of blood. There's definitely a lot of blood."...

This year will see a return to Children of the Corn , a reinterpretation of the Stephen King story Donald P. Borchers. It's set to air on the Sci-Fi Channel sometime this year and the network's news blog Sci-Fi Wire spoke a bit with actress Kandyse McClure ( Battlestar Galactica ) about her part in the film, the tone and whether we can expect to see her return in a sequel. "I think we're trying for the psychological thriller, for the implied violence," she says. "It is pretty gory. I have to say there's a lot of blood. There's definitely a lot of blood. But the stuff with the kids is really what creeps me out. It creeped me out watching it on set, and I imagine after they've rendered and doctored it and put the music in that it'll be even more disturbing. But...

We broke the news back in June that Producer Donald P. Borchers would be writing and directing his own remake of Children Of The Corn for the Sci-Fi Channel and Anchor Bay Entertainment, only that's just the beginning. We learned today that Dimension Films still owns the rights to the Stephen King story and has every intention of adapting it once again for the big screen! No word yet on who will tackle the project, but this could be cool if they do it right. In the original a boy preacher named Isaac goes to a town in Nebraska called Gatlin and gets all the children to murder every adult in town. A young couple have a murder to report and they go to the nearest town to seek help but the town seems deserted. They are soon trapped in Gatlin with little chance of getting out alive...
