The Fantastic Beasts films were meant to continue the Harry Potter series and expand the Wizarding World at a time when Star Wars and other franchises were also finding new ways to reinvent themselves. While the idea for the first film came from a fictional textbook, J.K. Rowling envisioned a massive saga spanning five films. One of the reasons for this was the inclusion of Gellert Grindelwald, the next major villain of the franchise after Voldemort.

Each iteration of the infamous wizard Gellert Grindelwald has been wildly different from the other, with each actor bringing their distinctive flavor to the role. Gellert Grindelwald is mentioned a few times throughout the Harry Potter books. However, his first official introduction was as an old "friend" hidden in Dumbledores past in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book.

It is revealed that Grindelwald and Dumbledore were extremely close in the past and planned to bring the Wizarding World out of the shadows and subdue the non-magical population. Dumbledore realizes the error in this plan and, after the death of his sister Ariana, distances himself from Grindelwald. Yesterday I reported how the box office figures and general reception for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them hasn't been exactly what Warner Bros. was hoping for. There's a lot of thought, within the industry, that the launch of the Fantastic Beasts franchise has somewhat missed the mark the studio was aiming for. Although the new spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is set before the previous films, we don't expect that Rowling's planned five films will dovetail directly into The Philosopher's Stone and aside from a couple of references to wizarding history, it's uncharted territory.

Lionsgate is shuffling its 2015 release slate, pushing Johnny Depp's Mortdecai from February 6, 2015 to January 23, 2015, while also moving Blake Lively's The Age of Adaline from January 23, 2015 to April 24, 2015.

Mortdecai will now go up against Jennifer Lopez's The Boy Next Door and the limited release title Black Sea, starring Jude Law, on January 23. Johnny Depp stars as a charming art dealer who travels the globe to track down a stolen painting, rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold. Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn and Paul Bettany round out the supporting cast in director David Koepp's action-comedy.

Based on the popular three-novel anthology by Kyril Bonfiglioli, which has amassed a significant cult following, the film features an all-star cast including Johnny Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany and Olivia Munn.

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Exclusive: Lionsgate International will commence pre-sales at Afm next month on the Johnny Depp action comedy Mortdecai that has begun shooting in London (October 21) as well as the action epic Gods Of Egypt with Gerard Butler.

David Koepp directs Mortdecai, marking the first project under Lionsgate and OddLot Entertainment’s co-financing and distribution deal announced last month.

Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany and Olivia Munn star in the story of a roguish, globe-trotting art dealer who encounters Russian mobsters and British spies as he races to recover a stolen painting that may indicate the whereabouts of Nazi gold.

Guy Burnet, Michael Byrne, Michael Culkin, Jonny Pasvolsky, Ulrich Thomsen and Paul Whitehouse have also joined the cast.

Andrew Lazar, Depp, Christi Dembrowski and OddLot founder Gigi Pritzker are producing and Eric Aronson adapted Kyril Bonfiglioli’s book series, The Great Mortdecai Moustache Mystery.

Entertainment One has announced that it will release Diana, director Oliver Hirschbiegel's biopic of the Princess of Wales, on November 1 in a limited nationwide release, with expansion planned in subsequent weeks.
