When “The X-Files” premiered on Sept. 10, 1993 on Fox, viewers had no idea how incredibly bizarre the cases tackled by FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) would be.
Anything that was deemed paranormal, supernatural or unexplainable was called an “X-File” — the cases that no one else in the agency wanted to touch.
In the show’s 11 seasons, they dealt with more than just aliens and shadowy government conspiracies. Their cases involved demons, ghosts, serial killers, sea monsters and even vampires. Here are the episodes with the scariest villains and killer creatures.

When Nicolas Cage won the Best Actor Oscar in 1995 for his devastating portrayal of a heartbroken alcoholic with a death wish in Mike Figgis' "Leaving Las Vegas," he was 31 years old and soaring into the prime of an already impressive career. He had access to the best screenplays in town and the interest of just about every A-list director. So Cage did what any reasonable movie star would do: he made three of the decade's zaniest blockbuster action movies.
For those of us who fell in love with Cage as the good-hearted punk Randy in Martha Coolidge's lovable 1983 film "Valley Girl," he kind of owed us. Though he's utterly brilliant in "Leaving Las Vegas," Figgis' grimy drama makes "The Lost Weekend" look like "Arthur." It's a brutal, frankly unrewarding ordeal. For close to two hours, we watch Cage's financially/personally ruined screenwriter grimly follow through on his promise to speedily drink himself to death.

“The X-Files” was TV’s flagship horror/sci-fi series of the 1990s, and was conceived in part by creator Chris Carter as a way to “scare people’s pants off.” And what’s scarier than a real-life villain like Jeffrey Dahmer?
Two years before the show premiered on Fox in 1993, the serial killer (who’s currently played by Evan Peters in Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) was arrested and his sickening story struck a nerve with people throughout the world. During the second season of “The X-Files,” Carter penned an episode titled “Irresistible” that was a first for the series: it featured no paranormal elements but instead focused on a killer and necrophiliac named Donnie Pfaster (Nick Chinlund) that was loosely based on Dahmer himself. Watch a frightening clip above.
In the episode, which aired on January 13, 1995, Pfaster is working at a St. Paul, Minnesota funeral home when...

While speaking on Danger Close, the Ironclad podcast series hosted by The Terminal List author Jack Carr, Chris Pratt was asked whether a second season was in the works. “To the rabid fans of The Terminal List out there, you have nothing to worry about,” Pratt said. “We love you and appreciate your support. It’s our life’s mission to make sure you can come back to the well. We are working away.” Carr added, “There may be some cool stuff on the horizon being discussed.“

Chris Pratt has good news for fans of The Terminal List who may be wondering about a second season: “You have nothing to worry about.”
On today’s installment of Danger Close — the Ironclad podcast hosted by The Terminal List author Jack Carr — Pratt was asked about the potential of another season. Pratt plays Lieutenant Commander James Reece in the Amazon Prime drama about an entire platoon of Navy SEALs who is ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission.
The first season of The Terminal List launched July 1 and consisted of eight episodes. Amazon Prime has yet to announce a renewal, but Pratt and Carr definitely suggest that something more is coming.

When Jack Carr was tucked away inside a rental in Coronado, California, typing up what would be the first of five novels centered on a Navy Seal commander named James Reese, he zeroed in on a short list of dream collaborators if the book was ever adapted.
After all, the plot seemed prime for adaptation as the first entry, The Terminal List, tracks Reece after his entire platoon was ambushed during a high-stakes covert mission. As new evidence comes to light, Reece discovers dark forces working against him, endangering not only his life, but the lives of those he loves.
“Before I had a book deal or anything, I thought, ‘who would be the perfect person to bring James Reese to life?’ Chris Pratt. Then I thought, ‘who would be the perfect person to direct it?’ Antoine Fuqua. I picked them before they even knew who I was,...

Born from a decision to combine two aughts-era sketches that weren’t quite working on their own, filmed in 2018, and debuted in 2020 at Sundance, writer-director Adam Rehmeier would be forgiven for just being happy Dinner in America is finally hitting the public. The result is more than the culmination of a lengthy artistic gestation, though—its content, humor, and heart all merge to deliver a piece with the potential for cult appeal that transcends the act itself. It’s a treatise on America, the blurred line between taboo and cruelty, and our collective fear of real individuality despite claims by both sides of the aisle to foster freedom. The outcasts get their day.

Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for the upcoming series “The Terminal List,” which stars Chris Pratt.
Having not read the book on which it is based, the show feels a lot like the kind of hard-edged, extremely violent, surprisingly character-based exploitation films Arnold Schwarzenegger made in the 1980s in between the blockbusters and franchise films that made him a star.
So it feels appropriate that his son-in-law, Chris Pratt, who has basically turned into what can only be called Dad Bod Arnold, stars in the series — his first TV series regular role since “Parks and Recreation.” And well, the show’s action-packed trailer dropped this morning.

One of the more entertaining films I saw back at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival was the punk rock rom-com Dinner in America. Directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier, the film has now finally received U.S. distribution via the newly-launched company Best & Final Releasing. Ahead of a theatrical release on May 27 and on June 7, the new trailer and poster have now arrived.
The film follows an on-the-lam punk rocker (Kyle Gallner) and a young woman (Emily Skeggs) obsessed with his band who go on an unexpected and epic journey together through the decaying suburbs of the American Midwest. Written and directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier (The Bunny Game), Dinner in America is the tale of Patty (Emily Skeggs) and Simon (Kyle Gallner), the latter of whom is a punk rocker, and the former, a female fan obsessed with his band. The two, against all odds and types, fall in love, and drift around the suburbs of the midwest. It’s a love story, but it’s also full of punk-rock indie sensibilities, with an edge that makes it feel unpredictable but still charming.
I was intrigued both by the story itself and the main cast, with Gallner, whom I am familiar with from his roles in the likes of American Sniper and Dear White People, to Skeggs herself, and...

Sleeping in Plastic is an upcoming dramatic thriller from director and photographer Van Ditthavong . In the film, a local high school wrestler finds himself in a destructive relationship. That relationship begins a violent downward spiral, in a small Texas town. In July, a trailer was released for Sleeping in Plastic (found below). As well, the film stars: Addison Timlin (Odd Thomas), Corin Nemec (Rottentail), Dash Mihok, Alex Macnicoll and Nick Chinlund. Now, the film is set to have its World Premiere, in Austin, this October. Ditthavong has worked as a freelance photographer, for the Texas Monthly. His experiences in this state have led to the creation of this film's story: "it is my ode to the darker side of Texas and my answer to what happens when our definitions of love, lust, and loss all blend together." These elements lead to lots of conflict as seen in the film's trailer.

When I was a kid, I used to love a scary movie. I remember catching the original The Haunting (1963) one night on Channel 9’s Million Dollar Movie when I was home alone. Before it was over, I had every light in the house on. When my mother got home she was screaming she’d been able to see the house glowing from two blocks away. The only thing screaming louder than her was the electricity meter.
That was something of an accomplishment, scaring me like that. Oh, it’s not that I was hard to scare (I still don’t like going down into a dark cellar). But, in those days, the movies didn’t have much to scare you with. Back as far as the 50s, you might find your odd dismemberment and impaling, even an occasional decapitation, but, generally, the rule of the day was restraint. Even those rare dismemberments,...

The X-Files spent the better part of a decade scaring the socks off of television viewers by presenting a twisted menagerie of creeps and ghouls unlike any other show on television. Sure, Star Trek had the coolest alien races, and Buffy had some pretty awesome monsters, but most of them were pretty obviously just guys in rubber suits or with prosthetics glued to their faces growling a whole lot, and a lot of times they came off more campy than scary.
With a bigger budget than most of its closest competitors, The X-Files was able to branch out and come up with some incredibly unique creatures, aided by the fact that the show had a knack for hiring some generally unheard of yet extremely effective actors to portray them – a credit to their excellent casting department. I approached Need for Speed with all the enthusiasm you might expect of a recent Breaking Bad convert who, having binged his way through the whole series, is desperate for another fix. Given his character’s denouement in the show, it’s perhaps rather fitting that Aaron Paul’s new project is a film about people driving very fast cars.
Paul plays Tobey, a mechanic who also enjoys illegal street racing (but then who doesn’t?). After one such illegal street race with a rival – Dominic Cooper’s slimy Dino – goes bad, Tobey is wrongly sent to the big house. Well, he was driving an illegal car at illegal speeds, putting himself and others in danger, but he...

While star Aaron Paul doesn't prefer to be chased by the police in real life, he explains how much fun a particular chase scene was to shoot in a new featurette for Need for Speed. The story centers on Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), who sets off on a journey across the country to drive in an elite race, and get his revenge on former partner Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper), who framed him for a crime he didn't commit. We also hear from Kid Cudi, who plays Benny, Tobey's "eye in the sky" during this high-octane adventure. Take a look at the latest footage and go behind-the-scenes of director Scott Waugh's video game adaptation, arriving in theaters March 14.
Need for Speed comes to theaters March 14th, 2014 and stars Dakota Johnson, Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots, Sir Maejor, Michael Keaton, Dominic Cooper, Rami Malek, Nick Chinlund. The film is directed by Scott Waugh.
