A one-time teacher who worked for many years at the ABC, producing, writing and directing for radio and television. He was also a published poet. He was educated at Hurlstone Agricultural School and Sydney University.
At the ABC he wrote and produced 10 years of weekly programs for The Poet's Tongue on Radio National and, under Ivan Smith, the Quarterly of Australian Verse. He also wrote for Quality Street, a weekly program of the arts, letters and philosophy.
He was married twice, the second time to Janet. He had two children from his first marriage, Sean and Abigail, and Janet had two children from her marriage, Amanda and Dugald.
