Paradigm Talent Agency has hired Chris Till as an agent in their theater literary and content division, Variety has learned exclusively.

The hiring brings Till back to Paradigm, as he previously worked at the agency early in his extensive entertainment career, as he now has over 20 years of industry experience. He previously spent over a decade at CAA before joining Verve in 2020 to help launch that agency’s New York office.

Till will be based in Paradigm’s New York office as well, with a focus on representing writers and directors across theatre, film and television.

“I’ve always thought of Chris as the one that got away,” said Paradigm partner and head of the New York office Jack Tantleff. “He started his career as a young agent at Paradigm, and I have watched as he built his business to become one of the truly bright stars in our industry.

Lionsgate has named Adam Fogelson as its Vice Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, with the executive set to exit his role as chairman of STX Entertainment’s film group.

Fogelson will begin in his new role Sept. 1 and will report to Joe Drake, chair of the studio’s film group. He will oversee worldwide marketing and theatrical distribution and be part of the motion picture group’s leadership team involved in all aspects of planning and executing its content strategy.

Lionsgate has unveiled plans for the yacht rock musical comedy Sailing, with Woody Harrelson in talks to star.

The jukebox musical comedy will follow the trials and tribulations of a group of 1970s musicians discovering the smooth sounds and lifestyle from yacht rock. The soft rock music genre dominated FM radio during that period.

Harrelson recently starred in Venom: Let There Be Carnage. His upcoming work includes The Man From Toronto, opposite Kevin Hart, and the HBO TV series The White House Plumbers. Chris D’Arienzo, creator of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages, sold the pitch for Sailing along with Jeremy Plager, who will develop and produce with MegaMix (Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer) and Harrelson.

Woody Harrelson is in negotiations to lead the ensemble of “Sailing,” a new comedy musical by “Rock of Ages” creator Chris D’Arienzo, for Lionsgate.

Taking place in the late ’70s, the film will chronicle the adventures of a group of musicians as they make their way into the sounds and lifestyle of “yacht rock,” a variation of soft rock that came to prominence on FM radio during that era.

Jeremy Plager, who worked with D’Arienzo to sell the pitch, will develop and produce with Harrelson and Megamix’s Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer as part of the production banner’s first-look deal with Lionsgate.

Exclusive: Three-time Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson is in talks to join Lionsgate’s ensemble 1970s jukebox musical Sailing from Rock of Ages creator Chris D’Arienzo.

Project is billed as a bunch of musicians in the late 1970s as they discover the smooth sounds and smoother lifestyle that is yacht rock, the soft rock music genre that took over FM radio during that era.

While Verve mustered through without any layoffs and furloughs that beset most other agencies, while it also created the first crack in the resolve of agencies when WGA successfully forced the percenteries to end packaging and affiliated production companies, the Covid pandemic made the uncorking of champagne impossible, with most of Hollywood shuttered in their homes.

When bookwriter Chris D'Arienzo's 1980s hair-band tuner Rock of Ages moved from Off-Broadway's New World Stages to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in April of 2009 - with a score made up of rock classics by Journey, Styx, Asia, Twisted Sister, Bon Jovi, Foreigner and a bunch of others - it was, to this reviewer's recollection, the first Broadway jukebox musical to acknowledge the silliness of jamming hit songs into an unrelated story.

The Film Society of Lincoln Centre have announced today that Don Cheadle's directorial debut "Miles Ahead," a biopic of legendary musician Miles Davis (played by Cheadle), will make its World Premiere as the Closing Night selection of the upcoming 53rd New York Film Festival. Just finished watching Rock of Ages (2012) a few hours ago and I am still Rockin'. As I left the theater, my feet were still tapping, my heart was still singin' and my body was rockin.' That, boys and girls, is entertainment. I make it a policy not to read any press about a movie until after I have seen it I don't want to cloud my impressions with other opinions and keep an open mind. After reading some reviews and articles about Rock of Ages (2012}, all I can say is...Really? The music, the music, the music! The only way to express the impact to the senses is Wow! It gets the body movin', the heart pumpin' and the ears feasting on the banquet of sound. This is rock and roll, ladies and gentlemen. Rock of Ages is a half-pleasant, yet troubling musical that I can't dismiss altogether, but I can't say the experience of watching it was altogether enjoyable. Based on Chris D'Arienzo's stage musical of the same name, a massive ensemble cast has come together to bring this late-'80s set story to life in such a haphazardly way that their continued musical cues play on as a crutch and the love story it means to tell is merely a forgotten sideshow the writers never seemed all that interested in telling in the first place.

I have visited dozens of movie sets over the past four and a half years - fantasies, action-thrillers, comedies, and dramas - but I've never stepped foot on the set of a musical until last August, when I found myself immersed in glam rock awesomeness on the Miami set of Rock of Ages. To my right, a massive billboard of Hollywood icon Angelyne looms over us all. Behind me, the Rainbow Room's iconic sign lights up the night. To my left, the Bourbon Room's massive facade stands out from the rest of the Sunset Strip, which lies straight ahead of us. While one might assume that I was standing on Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard, you'd both be right and wrong. I was actually in Miami, Florida, on the set of Warner Bros.' upcoming musical Rock of Ages, which hits theaters June 15. This sprawling set gave us an impressive glimpse into life on the Strip back in 1987.

For one, I am only 35 years old, and I have only lived in Hollywood since 2008, so this massive and incredible stretch of road, reconstructed with 1987-style buildings in downtown Miami, struck me as both familiar and unfamiliar at the same time. A Broadway show has some advantages over a movie. You see a live performance, the reaction of the crowd, the connection between the cast and the audience, and they all work together to create a unique experience. It is difficult to take a Broadway production and turn it into a successful movie. Rock of Ages (2012) could be one of the few to make the transition successfully. The choice of actors is intriguing. Tom Cruise portrays Stacee Jaxx, an aging rock star. Malin Akerman portrays Constance Sack, Catherine Zeta-Jones portrays Patricia Whitmore, Bryan Cranston as Mayor Mike Whitmore and Alec Baldwin as Dennis Dupree. Up and coming youngsters Julianne Hough, portraying waitress Sherrie Christian, and Diego Boneta as busboy Drew Boley, will find it hard to shine when faced with the talent and scope of their fellow cast members. The story is set in 1987 where Drew and Sherrie are struggling to succeed in show business.

Honestly, if I was forced to judge Summer 2012 at first glance, I would say it was pretty weak. Compared to 2011 and 2010, there's just not as many movies to look forward to. While I'm not a huge fan of musicals in general, I will say that Rock of Ages, the newest film from director Adam Shankman, does have some advantage. While a musical can suffer from terrible performances, a stupid story, and bad music, this new film at least won't suffer from the last item of that list. Everything in Rock of Ages could go terribly, terribly wrong and it could be an awful movie, but at the very least you'll get to spend 90-120 minuets listening to some good music from the 80s. London - There's a Hollywood cast for Britain's Whatsonstage theater awards, with James Earl Jones, Jude Law and Kevin Spacey competing for best actor in a play.

Jones is nominated for "Driving Miss Daisy," Law for "Anna Christie" and Spacey for "Richard III," alongside Benedict Cumberbatch for "Frankenstein," James Corden for "One Man, Two Guvnors" and David Tennant for "Much Ado About Nothing."

The prizes, run by theater website whatonstage.com, are decided by public vote.

Best actress contenders announced Friday include Vanessa Redgrave for "Driving Miss Daisy" and Kristin Scott Thomas for "Betrayal."

In the musical categories, there are multiple nominations for the movie-inspired romance "Ghost" and Roald Dahl-based "Matilda."

Director Adam Shankman is currently in production on his musical adaptation Rock of Ages, which is shooting in Miami. The filmmaker revealed a new photo from the set, which features Catherine Zeta-Jones as the main villain, a conservative who is trying to shut down the Los Angeles rock and roll scene. We reported back in April that Catherine Zeta-Jones joined the Rock of Ages cast as the villain, who is described as a bizarre cross between Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant. The character did not appear in the original Broadway musical by Chris D'Arienzo, who also wrote the screenplay adaptation.

MacGruber star Will Forte has joined the cast of Warner Bros.' musical Rock of Ages.

The actor will portray TV news anchor Mitch Miley, a brand new role which wasn't in Chris D'Arienzo's original Broadway musical this movie is based on. The story follows several characters in the 1980s Hollywood rock scene, including Tom Cruise as rocker Stacee Jaxx, and Julianne Hough's lead character, who just moved to Hollywood and falls for a young guitarist (Diego Gonz&#225lez Boneta).

Adam Shankman is directing Rock of Ages from a screenplay by Chris D'Arienzo, who adapted his own hit musical. Production started in May, on location in Miami.

Earlier this week, we reported that actor Alec Baldwin had stepped away from the Warner Bros. musical Rock of Ages. It seems that report was premature, since the actor recently showed up in Miami for rehearsals, confirming he will star in the movie.

It seems that Alec Baldwin recently discovered a medical condition and asked Warner Bros. if it was possible to be replaced. Since shooting is scheduled to begin on May 23, Warner executives knew it would be impossible to replace him on such short notice, and reportedly demanded that Alec Baldwin honor his agreement for Rock of Ages. It isn't clear what Alec Baldwin's medical condition is.

Alec Baldwin will play a major role as Dennis Dupree, owner of The Bourbon Club, a Sunset Strip rock hangout which lies at the center of the musical. Dennis Dupree also has a musical number in Rock of Ages.
