One era of the Friday the 13th franchise officially came to an end on January 1st, when the servers for Friday the 13th: The Game – an awesome game that was hindered by the legal issues the franchise went through in recent years – were shut down at the request of the rights holders. A new era is about to begin, with Linda Cardellini having been officially cast as Pamela Voorhees in the Peacock streaming series Crystal Lake. As we sit in this space between eras, we still have the movies to watch over and over again. So let’s take a look at this Friday the 13th Movies Ranked list!

While this list is all in good fun, I have to admit that I found it to be surprisingly difficult to put together. That’s because the Friday the 13th franchise is my favorite of all franchises and I love every one of these films.

Few franchises own a day of the year, but even fewer own an inconsistent date. That inconsistency helps make every Friday the 13th feel like a surprise in its own right, which makes any time to celebrate Jason Voorhees a worthwhile occasion. With that in mind, one of the cooler aspects of the franchise has been a rotating group of actors, each with their own spin on Jason Voorhees. Don’t get us wrong, a lot of this comes down to the directors and quality of the movies, but each brings something unique to the role.

In 1980, Friday the 13th kicked off a whole new franchise that has since become one of the most indelible parts of the slasher genre, if not horror as a whole. Throughout the course of a dozen feature films, the Friday the 13th franchise has cut down hundreds of characters, transforming its tent pole slasher, Jason Voorhees, into one of the most prolific killers in the genre.

Of course, not every Friday the 13th film has the same body count, nor do they all hold up as triumphs of filmmaking. In fact, many of the franchise's entries have gone on to hold a special place in the hearts of fans not for how good they are as movies unto themselves, but for the overtly absurd directions that they pushed the franchise toward. Jason Voorhees racked up an enormous body count over the course of his long cinematic career, but there were Friday the 13th survivors that show he isn't as powerful as he might think. When it comes to killing, Jason is definitely in the upper echelons of the horror genre, a truly formidable practitioner of the murdering arts. Spurred on by his mother's death via decapitation, Jason is happy to make use of any conceivable object that might happen to be around when he encounters prey, most famously wielding a machete. When anyone thinks of Jason Voorhees, the image of the iconic hockey mask instantly comes to mind. However, for the fans, the face behind the mask is always a highlight. Usually saved until the climactic final act, Jason's face is revealed, and over the course of eleven movies, each unmasked Jason is unique.

Throughout the Friday the 13th series, many actors have played the iconic killer, Jason Voorhees, some better than others. The mythology for the long-running "Friday the 13th" film series has been notoriously shabby and amorphous. At the end of Sean Cunningham's 1980 original slasher, it was revealed that Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) had witnessed her developmentally disabled son Jason drown in Crystal Lake years earlier, largely thanks to the neglect of the boy's randy, sex-distracted counselors. When you've been through the trials and tribulations of getting an "Evil Dead" movie made, it's no wonder Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have remained the best of friends. The Friday the 13th franchise is very important to me, so it always hits me hard when I hear that someone involved with the series has passed away… and last Friday night, the news broke that we have lost another Friday the 13th alumnus. Someone who played the hockey masked icon Jason Voorhees himself: stuntman Ted White. The Friday the 13th movie franchise still sits dead in the water as a legal battle over the rights continues, but many filmmaker fans of the series are still keeping his spirit alive. Late Friday the 13th Part 2 star Steve Dash will be remembered in an all new documentary set to premiere this month on YouTube. Called Steve Dash: Husband, Father, Grandfather, the doc will be free to watch on the Slash 'N Cast YouTube channel when it premieres live on April 26. A trailer has been released which previews the movie, featuring interview bits from other Jason actors like Kane Hodder and C. J. Graham.

Steve Dash has passed away. He was 74-years old. The actor was best-known for playing the adult version of Jason Voorhees, aka "Sackhead Jason," in Friday the 13th Part 2. Dash portrayed the iconic character while wearing the sack, while Warrington Gillette portrayed Jason without the mask in the sequel. Dash died yesterday (December 18th) from complications due to diabetes and had been vocal about his condition to fans over the years. The actor was a regular on the horror convention circuit.

As we wait for a new, official Friday the 13th movie to come down the pipeline, some fans of the franchise have taken it upon themselves to gives us what Hollywood won't. Friday the 13th: Vengeance is a fan film that has surpassed its funding goal on Kickstarter recently and is intended to serve as a sequel to the sixth entry in the slasher franchise, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. They've also managed to get C.J. Graham, who starred as Jason in that particular entry, to take part.

Currently, the Kickstarter has earned just shy of $40,000 from 116 backers. The original goal of $25,000 has easily been surpassed. However, as the filmmakers note, it's going to cost more than what is being asked here to complete the movie. This will just help make it so they don't have to halt production and can keep Friday the 13th: Vengeance on the tracks.

With the Summer season just flying by, the upcoming Flashback Weekend 2018 is now here, with festivities kicking off on Friday, August 3rd at the Crowne Plaza O’Hare, and the event will run through the afternoon of Sunday, August 5th. I don’t want to reveal my hand to early on this one, but then again you guys probably know by now that I don’t rip into any film to tear it to shreds. Typically, it’s for two reasons. I see what they were trying to do with a limited budget. The heart is there, but the money ain’t. Also, I’ve had to double back on my opinions of films on the first watch. Hating it in the beginning, and then seeing something or things on another viewing that shows me that I had a gross error in judgment. Well, “Mr. Hush” puts me into a purgatory of indecision.

More casting news has come in for the MGM meta redux of The Town that Dreaded Sundown, and we have the skinny on exactly who'll be facing the original Sackhead next. Hint - It's not Steve Dash or Warrington Gillette.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Veronica Cartwright, Gary Cole, and Joshua Leonard (pictured; The Blair Witch Project) have joined the cast of MGM’s The Town That Dreaded Sundown. Cole is a deputy who is doggedly pursuing the killer, and Leonard will play the deputy assigned to protect the previously announced Addison Timlin and her grandmother. Cartwright will play Timlin’s grandmother who is raising her after her parents die in a car accident.

Timlin plays Jami, a girl who survives a copycat massacre at the film’s annual tribute screening and sets out to solve the mystery of who’s recreating the unsolved Sackhead murders, using clues from her own past.

The convention circuit has been popular among the cast of The Walking Dead and it was recently announced that Danai Gurira will be making her first horror convention appearance at Monster-Mania in March.

At this time, the guest list includes the following actors from The Walking Dead: Danai Gurira, Lew Temple, Vincent Ward, Laurie Holden, Chandler Riggs, Michael Rooker, and Scott Wilson. The convention is still in the process of announcing additional guests, so there may be more added to the list. On top of the regular photo and autograph opportunities, Monster-Mania is offering special VIP tickets that give you a guaranteed photo and autograph from Danai Gurira.

With efforts such as the upcoming Hallow Pointe, Mr. Hush and Emerging Past (both of which star Stephen Geoffreys), his films involve some kind of evil that is hiding beneath the surface of things and how it is brought out. Sometimes that evil is internal such as in werewolves in the star studded Hallow Pointe. Sometimes it is hiding behind the facade of any house, on any street in America such as in Mr. Hush. Director Thomas Churchill has a cool movie coming out on June 7th called Emerging Past. I've watched the movie and can tell you it's a cool one to catch, think thriller/drama mixed with horror elements. Writer/Director David Lee Madison's upcoming indie horror film Mr. Hush's trailer has been released and we have it here first for you to gaze upon.

Mr. Hush stars Stephen Geoffreys, Brad Loree, Edward X. Young, Connie Giordano, Alexis LauRen, Steve Dash, Thomas Churchill, Jessica Cameron, Colleen Cohan, Mike Marino and Tim Dougherty.

The film should be out in October.

Plot:

Horror icon Stephen Geoffreys (Fright Night) returns to classic horror in Mr. Hush. Holland Price is a devoted husband and loving father. But unbeknownst to him, evil and darkness have him a marked man. An idyllic, small Pennsylvania town serves as the background for this epic battle between good and evil. Starring Brad Loree (Halloween Resurrection), Steve Dash (Friday the 13th, Part 2) and Edward X. Young (The Green Monster).

Writer/director Thomas Churchill describes his indie horror film Emerging Past as being in the tradition of The Exorcist and The Omen, and if you're planning on attending the Famous Monsters Convention in Indianapolis this July, you'll be able to see for yourself if its an apt description since the flick will be having its world premiere during the event.

Emerging Past stars genre veterans Brooke McCarter (The Lost Boys), Stephen Geoffreys (Fright Night, 976-Evil), Steve Dash (Friday the 13th Part 2), and Tony Moran (Halloween) along with up-and-coming actress Krista Grotte. The film's original score and songs are by G Tom Mac, and you can check out the first music video for "Soul I Bare" beneath the trailer and poster below.
