There was no Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey or David Alan Grier on hand, but Tommy Davidson still considers reuniting with his In Living Color pal Damon Wayans on the sitcom Poppa’s House “the best thing I've done in 15 years when it comes to TV.”
In a new episode, Davidson plays an old prank partner of Poppa (Wayans). “It was just being with family and being with people that know me,” Davidson told TV Insider. “It can be a challenge walking onto a set, and nobody knows you, and they don’t know what you’re capable of, and you’re reading the script and got better things to bring to it. But they don’t care. It wasn’t that way with them. They know what I can do. They give you the right sidewalk to walk on, no cracks.”

In Living Color (1990-1994) helped make the Wayans family a household name and launched the careers of actors like Tommy Davidson, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, and more. Looking back on his time on the show, Davidson tells TV Insider that his strongest memory from the set was also one of the earliest. As The Proud Family star reveals, he completely froze his first time on camera, and advice from Damon Wayans helped get him through it. Davidson reunited with Wayans on Poppa’s House on Monday, February 3. The former costars played two grown men trying to make new friends for the first time in a long time. But Davidson and Wayans go way, way back. Davidson shares the story of how his nerves almost got the best of him on day one of filming In Living Color and how his friend helped turn things around. “Damon made me loosen...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Poppa’s House Season 1 Episode 10, “Elevator Friend.”] In Living Color stars Damon Wayans and Tommy Davidson played men who didn’t get along in the Poppa’s House February 3 episode, an episode that also saw a similar struggle (and another TV reunion) with Damon Wayans Jr. and Lamorne Morris of New Girl. In real life, these four are close friends. But does Wayans’ Poppa and Davidson’s Jarnold not hitting it off in “Elevator Friend” mean that Davidson’s guest spot was a one-time gig? The short answer is no. Davidson debuted as Jarnold, a previously anonymous worker in Poppa’s (Wayans Sr.) old office building. They only interacted in elevators when playing pranks on other workers. After Poppa’s best (and only) friend died, he went back to the office to find Jarnold and ask if he was interested in getting to know each other. Davidson’s character was anxious but scrappy,...

Poppa’s House is a family affair both onscreen and off. In addition to having the Wayans father-son duo as stars, the new CBS sitcom (which received a full-season order in November) has more Wayans family members on the writing staff behind the scenes. This week’s episode brings more chosen family members into the fold when Tommy Davidson reunites with Damon Wayans Sr. and New Girl‘s Lamorne Morris reunites with Damon Wayans Jr. Davidson tells TV Insider that acting with his In Living Color costar again is “the best thing [he’s] done in 15 whole years” because he felt so cared for during filming. Davidson makes his Poppa’s House debut tonight in an episode all about old friendships. Following the death of Poppa’s (Wayans Sr.) only real friend, he’s looking to connect with new people and hopefully bring this new pal to a Mets game. But Poppa was never good at emotional connections.

Poppa’s House is staging a dual TV reunion in an upcoming February episode. New Girl‘s Lamorne Morris and In Living Color‘s Tommy Davidson will both appear as guest stars in the episode titled “Elevator Friend,” and TV Insider can share the exclusive first look at the actors reuniting with Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. along with the episode description and a blooper reel (above) from the upcoming midseason premiere on Monday, January 27. Davidson plays Jarnold, and Morris plays Preston in the episode set to air on Monday, February 3 on CBS. Here’s the official logline: “When Poppa has an extra baseball ticket and no friend to invite, he decides to reconnect with Jarnold (Tommy Davidson), an old buddy from the radio station. Meanwhile, Junior’s old friend, Preston (Lamorne Morris), comes to visit.” This marks Morris’ first TV role since winning his first career Emmy for Fargo...

Christmas movies are a dime a dozen — especially when the Holiday season is just around the corner. The priorities of these movies are pretty straightforward. They are either about the togetherness that the season brings for families – a good narrative would use this aspect to either bring estranged ones together or dysfunctional ones closer. Subsequently, there are those movies that take the holiday spirit head-on, and push the viewers, and humans in general, to be at least a little bit kinder to each other. And then there are some that use the ‘saving Christmas’ narrative; the big-ol-grinch trying to mess things up followed up by a redemption of sorts.
“Mr. Santa: A Christmas Extravaganza” wants to be all of them at once. It follows three teenage high schoolers – Aj (Fey Soetan), Logan (Emmet Smith), and Keyara (Shanel Cheatham) who represent the geeks of the grade. The three have been best...

Black Dynamite is nothing short of a cult classic. Starring Michael Jai White as the eponymous hero, the comedy is filled with dozens of memorable lines, which (like Borat), fans are still incessantly quoting to this day. While fiendish Dr. Wu's "zest for Kung-Fu treachery," "Who the hell is interrupting my kung-fu?" and "Haha! I threw that sh*t before I walked in the room!" are all classics, there is one line that stands above them all as the most quotable from the movie. But, according to Cedric Yarbrough, who delivered the line, it was completely improvised.
MovieWeb recently had the pleasure of speaking to Cedric Yarbrough about his biggest dramatic role to date in Clint Eastwood's Juror #2. But, we couldn't help but ask about his time on Black Dynamite during the conversation. When asked, "How many times do fans come up and say that they're 'declaring war on...

Created by Keenan Ivory Wayans, the sketch comedy series In Living Color was a smash when it first aired. It nabbed the Emmy in its category for its debut season, beating out the likes of SNL, David Letterman, and Tracy Ullman. But that would only last so long, as the key players behind the show—the Wayans Brothers—had a falling out with the network, ultimately leading to a short run.
As Marlon Wayans recounted on the Club Shay Shay podcast (via People), In Living Color found themselves being hoodwinked by Fox, who had put the show on the syndication market without making proper compensation for its creator. “I remember when we left In Living Color because Fox was syndicating the show and it was hurting Keenen’s pockets. Keenen was like, ‘Nah, you ain’t gonna do this to me. My family said, ‘F*ck this money.’ And we all left In Living Color.

Taraji P. Henson is going to keep telling her truth.
As she took the stage at the 2024 ABFF Honors on Sunday night, “The Color Purple” star pointed to a tattoo on her left bicep that spells out those words exactly: “The Truth.”
“If you are alive and God blessed you with another day to live, it is your job to tell your truth,” Henson told the crowd gathered for the American Black Film Festival’s marquee gala. “Because by you telling your truth, you set yourself free and somebody else free. When we stay quiet, nothing changes. The squeaky wheel gets fixed.”
That ideology is something Henson’s learned to keep close over the years, particularly when it comes to navigating Hollywood.

Spike Lee has never backed down from making films that create a sense of what it means to be a Black man in America. He has made a career out of creating and pointing out schisms in our society in ways that divide audiences for decades. His 2000 film Bamboozled may be the most subversive film of his career. Lee has spoken openly about why he made the film and how he predicted the public's reaction.
In a few months, the film American Fiction will be arriving in theaters. It looks at many of the same themes as Bamboozled but in a far less accusatory way. So what is it about Spike Lee, his ethos, and Bamboozled that makes it one of the best films about race in modern cinema history?
[Please Note: This article discusses issues of race that may feel triggering to readers]

For Pierre Delacroix (Damon Wayans), the idea of being a television executive is not all it's cracked up to be.

In January 2009, during a midnight screening at Sundance, Michael Jai White knew he had something special in Black Dynamite. Nine months later, the Blaxploitation spoof’s limited theatrical release and minimal box office gross didn’t stop its immediate fate as a cult classic. Demand for a sequel soon followed, and so White, as co-writer of the film, penned a direct sequel that struggled to get off the ground due to creative differences with a producer.
Consequently, White went back to the drawing board and pursued an idea he had at the same time as Black Dynamite’s conception. If that action-comedy paid homage to Blaxploitation films through parody, then it would only make sense to take a similar approach with other genres. So, White revisited his earlier ideas for three other genre exercises including a horror movie, a kung fu movie and a Western. That Western is now known as Outlaw Johnny Black,...

Michael Jai White, the writer, star, and director of Outlaw Johnny Black, reveals that the film is part of a trilogy set in a specific time period, with one film being the comedic Western and the others being a Western homage and a horror movie. White co-wrote the film with Byron Minns, who also stars in the movie, and the two drew inspiration from Blaxploitation films like Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream. Michael Jai White, known for his acting roles, discusses how directing and producing come naturally to him and he enjoys multitasking and problem-solving, making it normal and enjoyable for him to juggle multiple roles in the production of Outlaw Johnny Black.

Additionally, Wild Nothing has shared the new song “Headlights On” featuring Hatchie, which you can listen to below.
Self-produced by Tatum and mixed by Geoff Swan, Hold features contributions from Molly Burch, Becca Mancari, Tommy Davidson of Beach Fossils, Hatchie, and Tatum’s his wife, Dana. “I’ve sat with this record for a very long time now, so naturally I’m both excited and apprehensive to let it see the light,” Tatum said. “It’s my first record as a father.

The "blaxploitation" genre is an especially fascinating one. A product of the 1970s, it came about due to a variety of coalescing factors, from a gradual change in race relations brought about at the time to more readily-available resources for independent creators. Despite the negative connotations the name suggests, blaxploitation films filled a niche in the moviegoer market at the time: they were films made by black filmmakers for predominantly black audiences, featuring black characters overcoming issues the black community faced. It also helped that these films are thoroughly entertaining, displaying a passion for filmmaking that overcomes low budgets and questionable production quality.

In 1999, the majority of the testosterone in the United States congregated in Miami, Florida to film Oliver Stone's "Any Given Sunday." After a pair of commercial disappointments in "Nixon" and "U-Turn," the two-time Oscar-winning director needed a hit, and John Logan's adrenalized football drama was roided-up with box-office potential. Once Stone landed Al Pacino for the role of the embattled head coach, every actor with an athletic physique wanted in.

Executive producer Ralph Farquhar reveals previous plans for a live-action version of The Proud Family. The Disney Channel animated series, following the adventures of Penny Proud, aired from 2001-2005 and originally concluded with the release of The Proud Family Movie. A success at the time, many praised the show for its representation as well as its humor and exploration of early teenage years. A revival titled The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder premiered on Disney+ in 2022. It features the return of original voice actors Kyla Pratt, Karen Malina White, Jo Marie Payton, Paula Jai Parker, Tommy Davidson, and more.
Prior to the release of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, a potential reboot seemed a possibility considering the original only consisted of two seasons. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Farquhar revealed that he and creator Bruce W. Smith made pitches to continue the show, which included a live-action version.

Reviving a beloved show is always a difficult task, given that there's already a standard that a reboot is expected to match. In the case of the first season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, both critics and longtime fans agreed the series knocked it out of the park. Despite it being almost two decades since The Proud Family ended in 2005, once Louder and Prouder premiered last year, it felt like the Proud Family never left. Penny (Kyla Pratt), Trudy (Paula Jai Parker), Oscar (Tommy Davidson), and the rest of the friends and family of Prouds return in a series that's just as heartfelt, funny, and memorable as the original series.

Prior to 1989, actor Leslie Nielsen was still best known for playing heavies and villains. Even when he appeared in comedy classics like "Airplane!" in 1980 or "Police Squad!" in 1982, his comedic power was derived from his ability to stay stonefaced while absurdity explodes around him. 1989, however, saw the release of "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" a film adaptation of the TV show. In that film, Nielsen played the role of Lt. Frank Drebin broadly, doing a lot of mugging and pratfalls. "The Naked Gun" was an enormous hit the year it was released, and Nielsen went full-bore into slapstick roles and spoof movies after that.
During the 1990s, Nielsen appeared in a litany of gloriously silly flicks like "Spy Hard," "Wrongfully Accused," "Repossessed" (a classic), "Dracula: Dead and Loving It," two of the "Scary Movie" sequels, and many others. Not all of these films were good, but...

Katherine McNamara is no stranger to worlds far removed from our reality, having starred in sci-fi fantasy series “Arrow” from The CW and Freeform’s “Shadowhunters.” Her role in “Walker: Independence,” the 1870s-set prequel series to The CW’s “Walker” starring Jared Padalecki, is akin to her previous portrayals — in heart and strength — even if she’s trading leather jackets for corset dresses.
“Abby is very much a woman who has agency in a time when a lot of women didn’t,” McNamara told TheWrap in an interview, “and a woman who’s thrust into a situation she wasn’t prepared for and into a world that she knows nothing about and has to find her way and make a family and build something out of a tragedy.”
