Exclusive: Premiere Entertainment Group has licensed North American rights to Vertical for the family comedy F+, starring six-time UFC champion Randy Couture (The Expendables), Tommy Davidson (In Living Color) and Jennifer Esposito (Crash).

Swen Studios produced the film which follows a group of young teenagers who plan the perfect heist by breaking into their middle school to alter their failing test grades.

Additional cast includes WWE professional wrestler Ettore “Big E” Ewen, as well as newcomers Wells Rappaport, Lily Jane, James Williams Jr., Lilly Tricano, and Cade Clark.

Kenny Beaumont directed the film based on an original screenplay by Jonathan Davenport. Swen Studios’ Eli Lipnik produces with Jason M. Murphy for In The Dark Entertainment. Murray Lipnik, Amber Wilkins, Tim Wilkins, Dimiter Nikolov serve as executive producers alongside Elias Axume and Carlos Rincon for Premiere Entertainment.

There was no Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey or David Alan Grier on hand, but Tommy Davidson still considers reuniting with his In Living Color pal Damon Wayans on the sitcom Poppa’s House “the best thing I've done in 15 years when it comes to TV.”

In a new episode, Davidson plays an old prank partner of Poppa (Wayans). “It was just being with family and being with people that know me,” Davidson told TV Insider. “It can be a challenge walking onto a set, and nobody knows you, and they don’t know what you’re capable of, and you’re reading the script and got better things to bring to it. But they don’t care. It wasn’t that way with them. They know what I can do. They give you the right sidewalk to walk on, no cracks.”

It’s time for a classic Coach and Winston mess around. Poppa’s House is staging a New Girl reunion for Damon Wayans Jr. and Lamorne Morris in an episode set to air in February 2025. The episode will also feature an In Living Color reunion for Damon Wayans and Tommy Davidson. Following the Poppa’s House series premiere on Monday, October 21, Wayans opened up to TV Insider about what to expect when Morris guest stars on the new sitcom. He says that while the new characters are different, Coach and Winston’s dynamic will naturally come out. As previously announced, Morris will play Todd in a February episode of Poppa’s House. Todd is a friend from Junior’s (Wayans Jr.) film school who tries to convince Junior to come back to filmmaking. As established in the series premiere, Junior is a brilliant dreamer who’s struggling to get his directing career off the ground.

Poppa’s House is staging a comedy reunion for stars Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. The new CBS series will feature Tommy Davidson and new Emmy winner Lamorne Morris in the same episode later in its debut season, reuniting its leading men with their former In Living Color and New Girl costars. Premiering October 21, Poppa’s House tracks legendary talk radio host and happily divorced Poppa (Wayans Sr.) who has his point of view challenged as he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Wayans Jr.), a brilliant dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband. Davidson and Morris will guest star in an episode premiering in February, according to Deadline. Morris will play a character named Todd in the February episode. Todd is a friend from Junior’s film school “who tries to cajole Wayans Jr.’s character into coming back to the magical world of filmmaking.

Exclusive: Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans, Jr. will get a chance to pay tribute to their old gigs on In Living Color and New Girl by featuring special appearances by Tommy Davidson and Lamorne Morris on their new CBS comedy Poppa’s House.

In an episode planned for February, Morris — who starred opposite Wayans, Jr. on New Girl — will play Todd, a buddy from film school who tries to cajole Wayans, Jr’s character into coming back to the magical world of filmmaking.

In the same episode, Davidson — who worked with the senior Wayans on In Living Color — will play Jarnold, Poppa’s (Wayans) work acquaintance who he’s ridden with in the elevator for years. As Marlon Wayans recounted on the Club Shay Shay podcast (via People), In Living Color found themselves being hoodwinked by Fox, who had put the show on the syndication market without making proper compensation for its creator. “I remember when we left In Living Color because Fox was syndicating the show and it was hurting Keenen’s pockets. Keenen was like, ‘Nah, you ain’t gonna do this to me. My family said, ‘F*ck this money.’ And we all left In Living Color.

Taraji P. Henson is going to keep telling her truth.

As she took the stage at the 2024 ABFF Honors on Sunday night, “The Color Purple” star pointed to a tattoo on her left bicep that spells out those words exactly: “The Truth.”

“If you are alive and God blessed you with another day to live, it is your job to tell your truth,” Henson told the crowd gathered for the American Black Film Festival’s marquee gala. “Because by you telling your truth, you set yourself free and somebody else free. When we stay quiet, nothing changes. The squeaky wheel gets fixed.”

That ideology is something Henson’s learned to keep close over the years, particularly when it comes to navigating Hollywood.

The annual awards ceremony recognizes excellence in the motion picture and television industry. Actor and comedian Tommy Davidson will host the gala set to take place on Sunday, March 3rd at the Sls hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.

Henson will be presented with the Excellence in the Arts Award (Female) for her body of work, which includes Empire, Hidden Figures, and The Color Purple.

Wright will receive the Excellence in the Arts Award (Male) recognizing his body of work, which includes Basquiat, Westworld and American Fiction.

Morris, an actor, comedian, writer, singer, and the first Black cast member of Saturday Night Live, will be honored with the Hollywood Legacy Award.

Screenwriter and producer Akil of Girlfriends, The Game and Being Mary Jane, will receive the Industry Visionary Award.

The 2nd annual Children’s & Family Emmys got underway on Saturday night, starting with the Children’s & Family Creative Arts Emmys at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. According to early results — pending final tallies — Disney+ and Netflix tied the lead with nine wins overall.

The most honored program of the evening was actually Netflix’s “Lost Ollie,” which scored five trophies. Disney+’s wins included multiple awards for “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” and animated series “Baymax!” Nickelodeon picked up five wins.

And it was also a good night for Disney via its linear Disney Channel, which picked up four wins.

In January 2009, during a midnight screening at Sundance, Michael Jai White knew he had something special in Black Dynamite. Nine months later, the Blaxploitation spoof’s limited theatrical release and minimal box office gross didn’t stop its immediate fate as a cult classic. Demand for a sequel soon followed, and so White, as co-writer of the film, penned a direct sequel that struggled to get off the ground due to creative differences with a producer.

Consequently, White went back to the drawing board and pursued an idea he had at the same time as Black Dynamite’s conception. If that action-comedy paid homage to Blaxploitation films through parody, then it would only make sense to take a similar approach with other genres. “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen” has been acquired by CBS to temporarily take over the 12:37 a.m. timeslot vacated by “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” That timeslot will eventually be replaced with a new version of the former Comedy Central series “@midnight” — but after the Hollywood strikes are resolved. For now, “Comics Unleashed” will fill the slot in a limited run with nightly airings beginning on Monday, Sept. 18, the network announced Monday.

Long-running syndicated comedy talk show Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen is joining the CBS fall late-night lineup for a limited run during the strikes. The show will air nightly with two back-to-back episodes each night beginning Monday, September 18 from 12:37-1:37 Am, Et/Pt following repeats of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on the CBS network and streaming on Paramount+. The Late Late Show formerly aired in the timeslot. All late-night shows have been airing repeats since the strikes began.

CBS is boosting its late-night strike programming with reruns and never-before-seen episodes of “Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen,” the network announced on Monday.

Back-to-back episodes will begin a limited run Monday, Sept. 18, at (12:37-1:37 a.m, Et/Pt on CBS. The new-to-viewers installments which were produced before 2023, make up nearly half of the broadcast network run, a rep for the show told TheWrap.

“’Comics Unleashed’ is a true passion for me, simply because this world can never have enough laughter,” said Allen, the founder, chairman and CEO of Allen Media Group, in a statement. “I created this show so that the best comedians can all come together and bring nonstop laughter.”

Michael Jai White, the writer, star, and director of Outlaw Johnny Black, reveals that the film is part of a trilogy set in a specific time period, with one film being the comedic Western and the others being a Western homage and a horror movie. White co-wrote the film with Byron Minns, who also stars in the movie, and the two drew inspiration from Blaxploitation films like Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream. Michael Jai White, known for his acting roles, discusses how directing and producing come naturally to him and he enjoys multitasking and problem-solving, making it normal and enjoyable for him to juggle multiple roles in the production of Outlaw Johnny Black.

Jack Tatum has readied Hold, his first album as Wild Nothing in five years. The record arrives October 27th via Captured Tracks, and along with it comes a North American tour slated for this fall. Additionally, Wild Nothing has shared the new song “Headlights On” featuring Hatchie, which you can listen to below.

Self-produced by Tatum and mixed by Geoff Swan, Hold features contributions from Molly Burch, Becca Mancari, Tommy Davidson of Beach Fossils, Hatchie, and Tatum’s his wife, Dana. A press release describes the record as more electronic and dance-inspired than Wild Nothing’s previous releases, and the artist spoke anxiously about releasing it (and finally following 2018’s Indigo) in a statement.

“I’ve sat with this record for a very long time now, so naturally I’m both excited and apprehensive to let it see the light,” Tatum said. “It’s my first record as a father.

Kevin Hart and his entertainment company Hartbeat are bringing back BET’s “Comic View” stand-up comedy franchise after a nine-year hiatus as part of a four-day weekend event in Las Vegas celebrating his 44th birthday.

The actor, comedian, producer and entrepreneur’s Hartbeat is teaming with Paramount Global’s BET to relaunch “Comic View” for Hartbeat Weekend, taking place in Las Vegas from July 6-9 and timed for Hart’s birthday (July 6).

The "blaxploitation" genre is an especially fascinating one. “Transatlantic” follows an international group as they risk their lives to help refugees escape occupied France, including many on the Nazis’ most-wanted list. As the group continues to risk their lives, the “threat of mortal danger gives way to unexpected collaborations and intense love affairs,” according to the series’ logline.

Executive producer Ralph Farquhar reveals previous plans for a live-action version of The Proud Family. The Disney Channel animated series, following the adventures of Penny Proud, aired from 2001-2005 and originally concluded with the release of The Proud Family Movie. A success at the time, many praised the show for its representation as well as its humor and exploration of early teenage years. A revival titled The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder premiered on Disney+ in 2022. It features the return of original voice actors Kyla Pratt, Karen Malina White, Jo Marie Payton, Paula Jai Parker, Tommy Davidson, and more.

Prior to the release of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, a potential reboot seemed a possibility considering the original only consisted of two seasons. In a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Farquhar revealed that he and creator Bruce W. Smith made pitches to continue the show, which included a live-action version.

Reviving a beloved show is always a difficult task, given that there's already a standard that a reboot is expected to match. In the case of the first season of The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, both critics and longtime fans agreed the series knocked it out of the park. Despite it being almost two decades since The Proud Family ended in 2005, once Louder and Prouder premiered last year, it felt like the Proud Family never left. Penny (Kyla Pratt), Trudy (Paula Jai Parker), Oscar (Tommy Davidson), and the rest of the friends and family of Prouds return in a series that's just as heartfelt, funny, and memorable as the original series.

The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder...

Prior to 1989, actor Leslie Nielsen was still best known for playing heavies and villains. Even when he appeared in comedy classics like "Airplane!" in 1980 or "Police Squad!" in 1982, his comedic power was derived from his ability to stay stonefaced while absurdity explodes around him. 1989, however, saw the release of "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" a film adaptation of the TV show. In that film, Nielsen played the role of Lt. Frank Drebin broadly, doing a lot of mugging and pratfalls. "The Naked Gun" was an enormous hit the year it was released, and Nielsen went full-bore into slapstick roles and spoof movies after that.
