Clyde Phillips Inks New Deal With Lionsgate TV, Talks About Rebooting ‘Nurse Jackie’
Exclusive: Clyde Phillips has signed a new two-year overall deal with Lionsgate Television. Phillips recently joined Lionsgate’s dark comedy Nurse Jackie, and his duties as executive producer/showrunner on the Showtime series will fall under his new pact with Lionsgate, which also covers development. Phillips was already talking to Lionsgate about renewing his overall deal when the opportunity to take over Nurse Jackie came up when original showrunners Linda Wallem and Liz Brixius stepped down. “All the stars aligned,” Phillips said. “I thought Nurse Jackie was really good, and I thought it could be great.” He also liked the prospect of working with Nurse Jackie star/exec producer Edie Falco and the fact that he was not asked to just come in and “babysit” an established series. “I was asked to reboot the show, and that’s a challenge I willingly and happily accept.” Related: Showtime Renews ‘Nurse Jackie...

SyFy Announces Its Largest Original Lineup Ever (But Still No Firefly)
SyFy apparently has been stashing all the money it makes from professional wrastling since the network announced (I refuse to use the word "unveil," it sounds ritualistic, creepy, and moist) its new lineup, consisting of more original content than they've ever hosted before. Well, they use the hyperbolic "in history" which I just don't think should be used for a network that wouldn't even be able to drink for another three years if it was a person. Let's take a few choice bits from the press release and then flip through the new shows.

The press release starts with: "Continuing the sizzling momentum of the Syfy global brand evolution, which has sparked imagination-driven hit series and double-digit growth in younger, upscale audiences as well as diverse new business ventures..."

Can momentum really sizzle? I mean, strictly from a science point of view, momentum is the product of mass and velocity...

Syfy Narrows Field Of Comedy Contenders
Syfy, which is meeting advertisers today at its upfront presentation in New York, continues to be focused on launching a single-camera comedy series. After developing half-hour projects for the past year, Syfy has narrowed the field for a potential pilot order. It includes supernatural comedy In the Dark, which joins Three Inches, a half-hour version of Syfy's hourlong pilot, and previously announced Me and Lee. In the Dark follows a misfit group of third-tier ghost hunters whose misguided efforts tend to highlight their incompetence rather than paranormal activity. From Universal Cable Prods., In the Dark is being written by Michael Davidoff and Bill Rosenthal, who are exec producing with Dan Taberski through Idiot Box Prods. In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever Walter Spackman is struck by lightning and develops a unique "super" power -- the ability to move any object using just his mind ... but only a distance of three inches.
