David Harris, the actor known for playing Cochise in the 1979 cult classic The Warriors, has died. He was 75.

Harris died of cancer on Friday at his home in New York City, his daughter Davina Harris told the New York Times.

Based on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel of the same name, The Warriors told the story of a New York City street gang tasked with traveling from the Bronx to Coney Island after they are framed for murder. Harris’ Cochise was a gang member with a defiant fashion sense, punctuated by a heavy turquoise necklace and headband.

The film was critically panned after its premiere, but later grew to be embraced by a fervent fanbase and now holds an 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lauryn Hill was announced Wednesday as one of the lead singers on Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’s new concept album of The Warriors.

As for whether the concept album, which also features Busta Rhymes, Rza, Ghostface Killah, Colman Domingo and more alongside an all-female gang, will become the Hamilton creator’s next full-length stage show, Miranda said it will depend on the reception.

“The plan is just to release it and see how people respond,” Miranda said at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in Manhattan Wednesday. He added that the project did not have a director or producers yet attached.

The San Sebastián Film Festival has revealed the Official Selection for its latest edition, which is due to unfold from September 22 — 30.

Timothy Olyphant has brought his cowboy hat to the mean streets of Detroit as deputy U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens to cross paths with a violent, sociopathic killer 15 years after he left the hollers of Kentucky in FX’s original Justified drama, as revealed in the official trailer for FX’s Justified: City Primeval, which dropped Wednesday.

The series revival, based Elmore Leonard’s novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, has Givens on a collision course with Clement Mansell — aka The Oklahoma Wildman — a desperado played by Boyd Holbrook, who’s already eluded a Motor City police task force.

“I see you near my daughter again, I’ll kill you,” Givens tells Mansell at one point in the trailer after seeing him with his daughter, Willa Givens, played by Vivian Olyphant.

After decades of Octavia E. Butler's work being under-adapted, FX debuted the first TV adaptation of "Kindred," based on the author's esteemed 1979 novel, on Dec. 13, 2022. However, the series will not be moving forward with another season.

On Jan. 30, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively announced that FX has canceled "Kindred" after just one season. According to the outlet, showrunner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins plans to shop the FX drama around to other networks, as he previously expressed to Popsugar a vision of having multiple seasons.

Jacobs-Jenkins's historical science fiction series, now streaming on Hulu, follows the story of Dana (Mallori Johnson), a young aspiring writer who moves to Los Angeles and suddenly finds herself mysteriously traveling back in time to a 19th-century plantation in antebellum Maryland where her late mother somehow exists.

FX’s “Kindred,” streaming on Hulu, is the long-awaited adaptation of what is arguably sci-fi trailblazer Octavia E. Butler’s most well-known novel. Released in 1979, “Kindred” is a literary mash-up that is part slave narrative, fantasy and historical fiction. What many regard as Butler’s magnum opus transports a modern Black woman back in time to a plantation where she experiences life as an enslaved woman. To bring this work to life, which has been in the Hollywood pipeline since at least the 1990s, FX tasked Obie Award-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, noted for his plays “Appropriate” and “An Octoroon” as well as Pulitzer Prize finalists “Gloria” and “Everybody.” Jacobs-Jenkins also served as a producer on HBO’s critically acclaimed, multiple Emmy Award-winning limited series “Watchmen,” which propelled the horrific Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 into popular conversations.

Which is all to say, this adaptation of “Kindred” has some serious bona fides bringing it to life.

FX assembled a formidable, curiosity-driving team to adapt “Kindred” for television. Showrunner and writer Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama, as well as a MacArthur fellow. Even though he only has a few TV credits, they still include a consulting producer gig on a little Emmy juggernaut called “Watchmen.” He’s joined by fellow tick-tock colleague Victoria Thomas, the exceptional, Emmy-winning casting director behind everything from “Ed Wood” and “Ali” to “The Leftovers” and “Insecure.” “Zola” director Janicza Bravo helms the pilot, while the series’ other executive producers include “The Americans” masterminds Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields, as well as some guy named Darren Aronofsky.

Quentin Tarantino’s next project may not be his final film, but rather a move into TV.

Deadline has reported that the auteur is currently in talks to direct “one or two episodes” of FX’s upcoming limited series “Justified: City Primeval,” with Timothy Olyphant reprising his role as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.

Tarantino’s attachment to the “Justified” revival seven years after the series wrapped would reunite the “Kill Bill” director with his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” performer, as well as author Elmore Leonard. Tarantino’s 1997 film “Jackie Brown” is based on Leonard’s novel “Rum Punch,” and Tarantino has also previously optioned several Leonard titles, including the western “Forty Lashes Less One.”

The “Justified” revival was ordered in January, with Olyphant set to reprise his role as U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. The new series is inspired by Elmore Leonard’s novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.” Leonard created the character of Givens, who is featured in several of his books including “Fire in the Hole,” which “Justified” was based upon.

A revival of “Justified” has been ordered to series at FX, with Timothy Olyphant set to reprise the role of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens.

Variety exclusively reported that the project was in the works in March 2021. The new iteration of the drama series is inspired by the Elmore Leonard novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit.” Leonard created the character of Givens, who appeared in several of the author’s novels and the novella “Fire in the Hole,” the latter of which served as the basis for “Justified.”

Officially titled “Justified: City Primeval,” the new show picks up with Givens eight years after he left Kentucky behind. He now lives in Miami, a walking anachronism balancing his life as a U.S. Marshal and part-time father of a 14-year-old girl. His hair is grayer, his hat is dirtier, and the road in front of him is suddenly a lot shorter than the road behind.

In many ways, HBO’s “Mare of Easttown” told two stories: one was a gripping, small-town murder mystery and the other was an exploration of grief and guilt for a mother, the titular Mare (played by Kate Winslet), who lost her son too young. Both pieces of the overall limited series were deeply emotional but, as director Craig Zobel puts it, “humanistic,” and therefore the show’s visual complexity came from the crew and actors challenging themselves.

The final episode of Mare of Easttown limited series drew four million viewers over the holiday weekend across HBO and HBO Max, with nearly three million viewers Sunday night (all platforms), marking a series high for both linear and digital, according to HBO. The finale also set the record as the most watched episode of an Original Series on HBO Max during its first 24 hours of availability, besting the finales of recent hits The Undoing and The Flight Attendant over the same period of time.

Mare of Easttown also joins The Undoing as the only series in HBO’s history to see consecutive growth week-to-week. Viewership still is expected to grow further via additional telecasts and digital viewing.

The release date for the Kate Winslet-led “Mare of Easttown” is drawing near. HBO released a new trailer on Wednesday for the limited series, which is set to premiere on the premium cabler April 18.

Per HBO, the series is an “exploration into the dark side of a close community and an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present. Winslet stars as Mare Sheehan, a small-town Pennsylvania detective who investigates a local murder as life crumbles around her.”

The seven-part series is created by Brad Ingelsby (“The Way Back”), who returned to his home state of Pennsylvania to write the series, and all episodes were directed by Craig Zobel.

Variety reports that the creative team behind “Justified” is developing a new series based on the Elmore Leonard novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit,” with a possibility that Timothy Olyphant will reprise his Emmy-nominated role as lawman Raylan Givens. The new series is being executive produced by “Justified” creator Graham Yost, with “Justified” writers and executive producers Michael Dinner and Dave Andron set to co-write, executive produce, and serve as co-showrunners. Dinner is also onboard to direct.

As the project is still in the early stages of development, there is currently no deal in place for Olyphant’s involvement. If he were to sign on, it is unclear whether he would return in a supporting or leading capacity.

The project is in the early stages of development. “Justified” creator Graham Yost will serve as executive producer, with writers and executive producers Michael Dinner and Dave Andron tapped to co-write, executive produce and serve as co-showrunners.

Olyphant played Givens in “Justified,” which was based on Leonard’s novels centered around the character, primarily “Fire in the Hole.” The series ran for six seasons from 2010 to 2015. Givens does not appear in Leonard’s “City Primeval,” which was first published in 1980. Olyphant could also appear in the series as another character instead of Givens.

Dinner will also direct. Chris Provenzano, Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly of Timberman-Beverly, VJ Boyd, and Taylor Elmore will all return as executive producers. Peter Leonard of the Elmore Leonard Estate will executive produce in association with MGM. Walter Mosely will serve as a consulting producer, as will Ingrid Escajeda. Eisa Davis will produce. Sony Pictures Television will serve as the studio, as they did on “Justified.”

Mackenzie Lansing (The Deuce), Kate Arrington (Billions), Ruby Cruz (Castle Rock), Eisa Davis (Betty), Enid Graham (The Glorias), Justin Hurtt-Dunkley (High Flying Bird), Izzy King, Jack Mulhern (The Society), Anthony Norman (Broadway’s The Prom), Drew Scheid (Halloween) and Madeleine Weinstein (Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) join the series, which is a co-production of HBO and Paul Lee’s wiip. The upcoming season of Encores! at New York’s City Center will include an adaptation by Pose‘s Billy Porter of The Life, a musical last seen in New York on Broadway in 1997.

Porter’s adaptation, which he’ll direct, is one of two upcoming Encores! productions reviving rarely staged Broadway musicals centering on Black lives; also in development is director Kenny Leon’s production of 1983’s The Tap Dance Kid. The two productions – a third remains to be announced – will mark the long-running series’ first season under the artistic direction of Lear deBessonet.

“I believe the future of a thriving Encores! has three prongs,” deBessonet said in a statement. “Revivals of hidden gems, productions where artists reclaim work for our time through their own personal lens, and celebrations that look at the ways musical theater can connect us, in this city and across the country. These upcoming projects hold seeds of all three tenets.

A “Skywatch” series based on the viral short film of the same name is being developed for Peacock by Ucp and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door.

The short was made by Colin Levy and has racked up over a million views since December. Ucp and Peacock got the rights to the short, which they’ll use as a proof-of-concept for the series, in a competitive situation.

The subsequent series is described as the following: “When an outcast teen hacks into a ubiquitous drone delivery system to pull a prank on his school bully, he accidentally crashes a dangerous prototype – and finds himself entangled in a life-and-death conspiracy.”

A dystopian sci-fi project from a former Pixar employee has landed at Peacock with Ucp and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door producing.

The streamer is adapting Skywatch, based on a short film written and directed by ex-Pixar artist Colin Levy, into a series after landing the rights in a competitive situation.

Skywatch started out as a ten-minute short film, which featured a brief appearance from Jude Law and was six years in the making with some Kickstarter contributions.

It tells the story of an outcast teen, who hacks into a ubiquitous drone delivery system to pull a prank on his school bully, he accidentally crashes a dangerous prototype – and finds himself entangled in a life-and-death conspiracy. You can watch the film below.

Seth MacFarlane and Chadwick Boseman are teaming as executive producers on a limited series about the Little Rock Nine that is currently in development at Universal Content Productions (Ucp).

The untitled series is set in 1957 after the landmark Supreme Court decision of Brown v. Board of Education. 14 year-old Carlotta Walls is among the first black students to attend the all-white Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas. She walks into an unexpectedly violent struggle against integration, which suddenly turns her and the other black students into civil rights icons.

The series is based on the best-selling memoir “A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High” by Carlotta Walls, now known as Carlotta Walls Lanier, the youngest member of The Little Rock Nine and the first African American female to graduate from the integrated school.

Eisa Davis is the writer on the project and will also executive produce.
