One of the wildest scenes in Stephen King's The Dark Tower will be difficult for Mike Flanagan's upcoming adaptation to get right, but the show absolutely has to include it. Stephen King has described The Dark Tower as his magnum opus, and the series is incredibly important to King and his fans. The 2017 movie version of The Dark Tower, however, didn't live up to the novels' legacy. Luckily, acclaimed horror writer and director Mike Flanagan is developing a Dark Tower show that more closely follows King's novels. While that should give it an advantage over Matthew McConaughey's first major villain role, it will also introduce some problems.

Staying true to King's source material will let Mike Flanagan's The Dark Tower adapt some incredible moments from the books. It also means that Flangan's Dark Tower can include some forgotten characters and get into more of King's sprawling story.

The Dark Tower movie was missing many key characters from the Stephen King novels who need to be in the upcoming series adaptation. Mike Flanagan's Dark Tower show is currently in development and is planned to adapt all the installments in The Dark Tower series. The 2017 movie was not a direct adaptation of the novels, instead acting as a sequel that only loosely adapted some of the characters and events from the source material. This approach was not received well, with the movie holding a 16% critical score and a 44% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Stephen King's risky ending to The Dark Tower series proved to be a deeply satisfying conclusion. The first Dark Tower book, The Gunslinger, was published in 1982, combining several short stories that King previously wrote. The subsequent Dark Tower books would be published over the span of more than two decades, with the final book in the series, The Dark Tower, released in 2004. An eighth book, The Wind Through the Keyhole, which takes place between the fourth and fifth installments, was later published in 2012.

After seven novels that were published over 22 years, and a multiverse that connects to many Stephen King books outside The Dark Tower series, ending cohesively and satisfyingly felt like a nearly impossible challenge. Roland Deschain ultimately reaching the titular Dark Tower after his long and arduous journey felt like an inevitability, but that alone would not make the ending to such an intricate series feel rewarding.

Carla Guigino's involvement creates an opportunity for familiar faces in Flanagan's adaptation of The Dark Tower. Bruce Greenwood's experience with supernatural creatures makes him an excellent choice for the role of Father Callahan. Zach Gilford's portrayal of realistic struggles in Midnight Mass would serve well in depicting Eddie Dean's challenges with addiction and loss.

Mike Flanagan is perhaps the single most accomplished and adept Stephen King adapter ever, and his cast of regular collaborators present some interesting opportunities to cast his latest project, The Dark Tower. The beloved book series had been partially adapted before as a woefully underwhelming film, 2017's The Dark Tower, but Flanagan's track record with King's properties promises a more faithful version of the story. The episodic format will also be more fitting of the seven-book series, giving more time for characters to develop.

Mike Flanagan has revealed his vision for the first shot of his upcoming TV adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. Flanagan recently revealed his ambitious goal to adapt King's dark fantasy, Western-inspired book series to the screen, envisioning the project as 5 seasons followed by 2 stand-alone films. The project is being produced by Flanagan and Trevor Macy under Intrepid Pictures following their move from Netflix to Amazon Studios. Flanagan has previously expressed interest in adapting The Dark Tower to the screen, citing it as his dream project.

The big screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower continues to pick up steam. The long-in-development film added sizable stars Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba a few months back, and it's supporting cast is still getting rounded out.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story yesterday that Fran Kranz, who played Marty in Drew Goddard's The Cabin In The Woods, has signed on to play Pimli Prentiss. This means Kranz will be the right-hand-man to McConaughey's Man In Black.

Kranz will join a cast that also includes Jackie Earle Haley and Abbey Lee. Aaron Paul is also rumored to be circling the project- after years of lobbying for the role of Eddie Dean.

The film adaptation of Stephen King's fantasy novel series "The Dark Tower" began principal photography in South Africa this week ahead of a February 17th 2017 release.

Idris Elba will play Roland the Gunslinger, while Matthew McConaughey will play the Man in Black. Aaron Paul is rumored to be on board as Eddie Dean, but that's not confirmed at this time.

Nikolaj Arcel helms the project which has spent years in development hell and has only now, finally, begun filming. The first in a potential franchise, the film is believed to be using many elements from the third book in the series which is where the novels began laying out a story arc in earnest.

A couple of years ago we learned that Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul was in talks to join the big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. The actor previously said that he had “a ton of meetings” when Ron Howard was still attached to direct to take on the role of Eddie Dean.

A lot has changed since then. The movie is now set up at Sony Pictures and is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (The Royal Affair), and as of right now the film stars Idris Elba in the role of Roland and Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Black, who is the villain in the story.

We now have word from Blastr that Aaron Paul has actually been cast in the film. The site says the information came from someone inside the production and that they can confirm it. But still, we are going to treat it as a rumor.

I really wish it wasn't taking so damn long for Stephen King's The Dark Tower to get to the big screen. I love that story, and I love the plan that Ron Howard, Akiva Goldsman, and Brian Grazer came up with to bring it to life. The actor is likely to essay Eddie Dean, who is the lead figure in the Stephen King book series of the same name, reports contactmusic.com.

This week while promoting his film Hellion (above) at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, actor Aaron Paul revealed an interesting tidbit of news about a gestating, ambitious project that just can't seem to get off the ground. AICN sat down with the "Breaking Bad" star to talk about his latest indie, and interviewer Eric Vespe decided to mention that Paul would make the perfect Eddie Dean in an adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower, with Ron Howard trying to make it work. Earlier today, we reported that Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul is circling the role of Eddie Dean in Ron Howard's massive adaptation The Dark Tower, which was initially conceived as a three-movie trilogy with two limited-run TV series' to air between the films. Now, speaking with AICN, he revealed he's also been in consideration for the elaborate film trilogy/two-season limited series adaptation of Stephen King's fantasy saga "The Dark Tower". Specifically he seems suited for the role of Eddie Dean, a character introduced in the second book. He says:

"I've had a ton of meetings on that. I just had a general sit down with Ron Howard, who is a huge fan of the show (Breaking Bad), which is such a crazy thing to even think that Ron Howard even knows who I am. They're definitely planning on making it. I'm excited. Their goal is to do three films, but also have a television element to it, which will be very interesting.

When The Dark Tower was in development with Universal Pictures back in 2011, it was considered one of the most ambitious projects in Hollywood history. Stephen King's seven-book series would have been adapted into three movies and two limited-run TV shows that were set to debut between the films. However, that all fell apart when the studio dropped the project in July 2011. Warner Bros. expressed interest in reviving the project back in August 2012, but they ultimately passed a few weeks later. The last we heard about The Dark Tower was in September, when director Ron Howard insisted that the adaptation is not dead yet, but we have had no proof of that beyond the director's word, until now.

Back in September, Ron Howard renewed Stephen King fans' hope for an adaptation of King's beloved series, "The Dark Tower," revealing that he and screenwriting partner Akiva Goldsman were still hard at work on bringing the books to the big screen. Now, actor Aaron Paul has rekindled interest in the project with the recent revelation that he's been in touch with Howard about taking a role in the movies.

Ain't It Cool News caught up with Paul at the Sundance Film Festival, and asked if rumors that he was up for the part of Eddie Dean were true.

"I've had a ton of meetings on that," Paul told the site. "I just had a general sit down with Ron Howard, who is a huge fan of the show (Paul's recently-wrapped series "Breaking Bad"), which is such a crazy thing to even think that Ron Howard even knows who I am.

It's been a while since we heard anything substantial regarding Ron Howard's ambitious take on The Dark Tower, but now almost by chance we have an update from an actor who may well be involved in the production.
