Disney’s live-action Snow White movie has been facing a storm of controversy and criticism even before its official release. The film has sparked heated debates, alienating audiences from both ends of the political spectrum, leading Disney to take an unusual step—releasing a different version of the movie in some Asian countries. One of the earliest and most talked-about controversies was the casting of Rachel Zegler, a dusky-skinned Latina actress, as Snow White. Many fans were quick to point out that the defining characteristic of the fairytale princess is her “skin as white as snow.” This choice led to backlash from those who felt that Disney was disregarding the original story’s core descriptions. The controversy was further exacerbated by Zegler herself, who, in interviews, dismissed the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) as outdated and “weird, weird, weird.” These comments alienated fans of the beloved animated classic,...

Disney’s latest live-action remake, ‘Snow White’, hit theaters with a thud, pulling in just $43 million at the domestic box office and $87.3 million worldwide. With a budget soaring past $240 million, those numbers sting. This isn’t the fairy-tale ending the studio dreamed of, and it’s got a lot of us scratching our heads about what went wrong.
The film had everything going for it on paper. A massive budget meant big sets, flashy effects, and a cast led by Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Directed by Marc Webb, known for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’, it was supposed to breathe new life into the 1937 classic. But the cash didn’t translate to crowds.

Game of Thrones had its fair share of challenges, extras mysteriously disappearing into the background never to be seen again, and, of course, the ever-famous coffee cup that defied the medieval timeline. But one of the most absurd and frostbitten production hurdles came not from CGI dragons or political backstabbing, but from the weather itself.

Specifically, the kind of weather that makes you question every life decision that led to standing in a Belfast quarry, soaked to the bone, and questioning whether frostbite is covered in your contract. This is the story of how a battle scene nearly turned into a survival reality show and why the cast and crew of Thrones deserve an award for their creativity and sheer endurance.

Wicked has soared on its streaming debut, flying straight to the top of the Peacock movie chart and bringing its magical, musical story of the witches of Oz to a new audience. The film has been an incredible success already, breaking cinema records and becoming one of the biggest Broadway musical adaptations of all time in the process. What’s more is that the film is only half the story, meaning that there is a lot more to come next year.
Wicked arrived in cinemas in November 2024, immediately wowing audiences to the tune of $740 million worldwide. Considering the lackluster performance of previous musical adaptations such as Cats and West Side Story, as well as director Jon M. Chu’s own In the Heights which struggled to a $45.2 million haul in 2021 during the Covid pandemic, the box office of Wicked not only made it the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all-time, but...

Disney's Snow White has become one of the most talked-about films of 2025, and likely not for the reasons anyone expected. The film is the long-awaited remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the very first full-length animated film that Walt Disney produced and helped launch the Disney film empire that endures today. Coming 15 years into Disney's modern remake cycle, it is certainly surprising that a live-action remake of Snow White took this long. Part of the reason might have been that audiences might have been overwhelmed by Snow White, as, in 2012, there were three separate Snow White projects.
In 2012, there were two big-budget Snow White films released, not by Disney. Disney's Snow White relaunch was on the small screen. These projects were Relativity Media's Mirror Mirror, Universal Pictures' Snow White and the Huntsman, and ABC's Once Upon a Time. Despite the two movies getting a lot of media attention,...

Channing Tatum first rose to fame thanks to his unbeatable dancing skills. Many of his hit films included dancing, like 2006's Step Up, or the Magic Mike franchise, where he was extremely fit.
Over the years, his acting credits featured more diverse roles than the aforementioned, but he continued to star in movies that required him to be in shape, including the role of Duke in the action films G.I. Joe, 2012's 21 Jump Street, and 2013's White House Down. He finally played his dream superhero role, Gambit, in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor has branched out to other roles since but revealed on Instagram that he wouldn't accept more "fat roles" after showing off his ripped physique.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall... will Snow White beat them all? Disney's embattled live-action remake comes into the weekend with plenty of baggage — racist backlast to the casting of Rachel Zegler as princess, Peter Dinklage's outrage over the depiction of the seven dwarfs, and Zegler and costar Gal Gadot staking out opposite ends of the Israeli-Palestian conflict in Gaza — but will fans ignore the noise and mixed reviews and turn out at the megaplex? Snow White is the highest-profile of the four major new releases that will be facing off against the current top five money-makers: Novocaine, Black Bag, Mickey 17, Captain America: Brave New World, and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
Gold Derby readers predict that Snow White will win the March 21-23 weekend with between $50 million and $75 million domestically. Novocaine is the runner-up selection of our oddsmakers. Do you agree or disagree with those rankings?...

On Saturday, March 15, on a sunny afternoon, Disney’s “Snow White” finally had its big premiere at the Disney-owned El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. There was a brightly decorated pre-party with activities for kids. The stars of the movie, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, who had weathered respective controversies, showed up and even took pictures together, sometimes with director Marc Webb sandwiched in-between them. Instead of actual press, Disney had Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel in 1989’s animated classic “The Little Mermaid,” asking questions on behalf of D23, the company’s in-house fan club. A chubby bunny hopped down the red carpet.
The premiere felt like a joyful release, or maybe a guttural scream, depending on who you talk to, and served as the culmination of a nearly 10-year journey to get this gauzy remake of Walt Disney’s original animated classic back to the big screen. That near-decade had been besieged by controversy,...

After years without a distributor, Peter Dinklage’s Toxic Avenger is finally coming out. And what’s more, we have a trailer to enjoy.
After a couple of years of uncertainty, Macon Blair’s adaptation of The Toxic Avenger is finally headed towards general release. Whilst the film did make a brief appearance back in 2023 with a teaser trailer, but the film is reportedly very violent – so violent in fact that it struggled to find a US distributor in 2023. We got a brief teaser for the film, and since then, nothing.
However, Blair is a talented director having helmed the Netflix thriller I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore to very positive notices. Likewise, the film’s star Peter Dinklage has raised the quality bar on many a project too, so hopes were always high that eventually somebody would swoop in to pick up the film for distribution...

For eight seasons and 96 episodes, from 2006 to 2013, the series Dexter ran on Showtime, telling the story of Dexter Morgan, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who is also a vigilante serial killer. Clyde Phillips was showrunner on Dexter for the first four seasons, and in 2021 he and Showtime brought us the revival series Dexter: New Blood… which, for a time, also seemed to be the end of it all. But that’s not the case. Showtime has tasked Phillips with continue to build up the Dexter franchise, with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiering back in December and a New Blood follow-up called Dexter: Resurrection heading for a June premiere. Filming on Dexter: Resurrection is currently underway – and Deadline has just revealed that David Magidoff, who played Teddy Reed from the Iron Lake Police Department in Dexter: New Blood, will be playing the character again...

Dexter Morgan is alive!
The 2021 revival series Dexter: New Blood ended with everyone's favorite serial killer being apparently murdered by his son, Harrison. However, the 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin revealed that Dexter survived the shooting and was rushed to the hospital, where the emergency room doctors worked their magic on him. That brings us to Dexter: Resurrection, which has a release date of Summer 2025 on Paramount+ and Showtime. Production began in January 2025 in New York, with Hall back as the former blood spatter analyst who's now living on the run after being outed as a serial killer known as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Snow White is releasing amidst controversy.
All of Disney’s live-action adaptations ruffle some feathers. Usually, it’s a discussion about art or copyright.
Starring Rachel Zegler as the titular fairy tale princess and Gal Gadot as the Queen, this adaptation will once again retell a Brothers Grimm classic.
Adaptations can often be polarizing. But the controversy surrounding this Snow White has little to do with the story.

Sometimes, discussing a controversy means delving into the heart of a complex issue, or questioning whether we can separate a piece of media from a horrible person who is a part of it. Both of those do come up when discussing this film.
But in this case, the first “controversy” about Snow White is neither.

The film first screened at Fantastic Fest in September 2023 and will now see a broader theatrical release on August 29.
Troma Entertainment has released the first trailer for Toxic Avenger, beginning as an advertisement for an offbeat burger joint before Winston emerges to deliver blood-filled justice. "Just dome dude with a mop!" Cineverse has unveiled a fresh 2025 teaser for the highly anticipated horror remake of The Toxic Avenger, finally set to hit theaters this August. Many of you will recall hearing about this before - we posted a teaser back in 2023 when it premiered at Fantastic Fest & Beyond Fest that year. It has been in release limbo ever since, apparently "unreleasable" due to its gore & graphic content. But after a two year wait - it's time to unleash Toxie on all the haters out there! The original The Toxic Avenger from 1984 is a Lloyd Kaufman / Troma horror cult classic, introducing the world to one of the most iconic mutant heroes "Toxie". Many sequels were made, and spin-offs, but now Troma has teamed up with Legendary for a brand new take. Macon Blair's The Toxic Avenger follows struggling everyman-janitor Winston Gooze (starring Peter Dinklage), who is...

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger has arrived and it's violent, weird, and unhinged...which we're guessing is pretty much everything you'd want from a movie featuring the beloved Troma Entertainment cult hero.
Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews at film festivals in 2023 (the movie has 92% on Rotten Tomatoes), it's been a battle to get The Toxic Avenger into theaters and, when it is finally released this summer, it will be unrated.
Based on the jaw-dropping gore - that's not hyperbole; someone literally loses their jaw here - it's not exactly hard to see why this movie didn't receive an R or even Nc-17 rating from the MPAA.
"The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature," director Macon Blair recently said, "with some influence from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new...

With all the turmoil besetting the real world, you’d think there might be more important things to inflate into controversies than the pre-release kerfuffles that have plagued “Snow White.” As it turns out, this is one of the better live-action adaptations of a Disney animated feature. And I say that as someone who mostly doesn’t like them. Yes, I’ve enjoyed a couple. At heart, though, I still don’t truly get the idea of Disney strip-mining its animated IP — and doing so not because there’s anything inherently appealing about turning painterly fairy-tale cartoons into stilted, less sublime real-life versions of themselves. What the remakes are selling is the theme-park novelty of the transformation: Look, here’s what an animated classic looks like when it’s retrofitted with sets and actors!
All that said, the chirpy, vivacious, just-romantic-enough-to-get-by “Snow White” proves to be an exception to the rule.

2025 began with exciting news about the reboot of a 1984 cult classic that has been living in horror fans' minds rent-free since its release — and now it's finally coming to fruition. After premiering at Fantastic Fest in September 2023, The Toxic Avengerreboot, directed by Macon Blair, struggled to find a distributor that was down with the intense violence and gore of the wacky horror film. However, Cineverse, distributor of Terrifier 3, stepped up to gain the distribution rights in January 2025, with a now scheduled theatrical release of August 29. The New Jersey hero played by the legendary Peter Dinklage hadn't been seen in action since Fantastic Fest, until today that is.

Toxie is officially back in action and ready to clean up the trash with Macon Blair's remake of The Toxic Avenger. Back in January, the long-awaited film finally found a home with Cineverse — the team that brought the Terrifier franchise to theaters — and landed an August release date, placing it on the big screen nearly two years after its Fantastic Fest debut. With the date slowly drawing closer, Collider is excited to share an exclusive sneak peek that sets the tone for Peter Dinklage's turn as the violent superhero. It's a gory, crass, and darkly comedic preview made to evoke the classic Troma films of old with a modern coat of paint.

Plaion Pictures has announced that American Dreamer, a new dark comedy starring Peter Dinklage as a new homeowner who gets more than he bargained for, is now available on digital. Dinklage plays Dr. Phil Loder, a low-level economics professor who has always wanted to own a home yet has never been able to afford it. That changes when he runs into a childless old widow, played by Shirley MacLaine, who is willing to sell him her entire mansion for practically nothing. It’s amazing! It’s a dream come true! Wait…is there any catch to this? Almost assuredly, but that’s something Phil will have to find out for himself. It feels like it’s been a While since I’ve seen MacLaine show up in anything. Thirty years ago she was so culturally relevant that parodies of her were always appearing in the cartoons I watched, with her...

As hard as it might be to imagine, few family movies in recent years have come to theaters with as much online baggage as Snow White. The Disney live-action remake starring Gal Gadot and West Side Story breakout Rachel Zegler has been central to several controversies since Disney announced the project and its cast in 2021. Ahead is everything about the live-action Snow White and why it has become so fraught.
Racist backlash to Rachel Zegler
Disney was so bullish on Zegler that she landed the title role in Marc Webb’s film before the release of West Side Story. “Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts,” Webb said in June 2021. “Her strength, intelligence, and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairy tale.”
However, soon after Zegler’s casting was announced, the actress of Colombian and Polish descent...

Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White is set to hit theaters this week and the film is already embroiled in controversy.
