Lawyers for Grammy-winning rapper Lil Durk had their first major chance to attack his murder-for-hire charges and jail detention Thursday, arguing in a federal courtroom in downtown Los Angeles that the artist wasn’t trying to flee the country before his October arrest in Miami. They said the “All My Life” rapper “contests” the claim he ordered a rival’s assassination, and they submitted new evidence that a rap song cited in his indictment was written and recorded months before the deadly 2022 shooting at the center of his case.

In “My Gun Is Quick” (1957), Mickey Spillane’s famous private detective Mike Hammer (Robert Bray) meets a sad young hooker named “Red” (Patricia Donahue) in a greasy spoon and rescues her from a goon trying to put the muscle on her. Hammer slaps him around and kicks him out the door and gives her bus fare plus change to go back home and start over. He’s a hardnose but he’s got a tender spot somewhere under that tough exterior. He writes down his name and number on a slip of paper and tell her to call him to let him know she made it okay. Before they part he notices a very ornate ring on the third finger of her right hand. Hammer has been up for 52 hours and just wants to go home and get some sleep,...

Mike Hammer is in action again! Well, not exactly. Producer Victor Saville’s third go-round with Mickey Spillane’s famed character doesn’t do the franchise justice. Hammer-philes will be astounded by this thriller’s decidedly un-thrilling thrills: there’s little to connect the inexpressive nice guy Robert Bray with the super-popular, super-violent avenger of the books. Spillane’s original is abandoned in favor of a tame ‘who’s got the diamonds?’ storyline, with some compensation in a string of exciting ‘Hammer dames.’ I checked twice — Mike doesn’t shoot Any of them in the stomach.

Johnny Depp has provoked a backlash from the families of Whitey Bulger's victims after saying he was "glad that he got away".
The actor stars in new film Black Mass as the infamous Boston gangster, who is currently serving a life sentence for involvement in 11 murders in the '70s and '80s.
Speaking to The AP, Depp previously said: "No matter how good that person is deemed, no matter how bad that person is deemed, by anyone and everyone, my responsibility was to do my best to represent him in a human light.
"No disrespect to any victims or families of victims, but there was some element for me that was kind of glad that he got away," he added.
"For 16 years he was on the lam and he wasn't causing any trouble. He was living his life. Good on him."
The comments have since provoked reaction from victims' families.

Peter Gunn: The Complete Series is now available for the first time ever as a 12-dvd box set from Timeless Media Group… all 114 episodes, with a running time of over 58 hours.
Peter Gunn – created and produced by Blake Edwards – ran for three seasons – from 1958 to 1961. This classic detective show was a delightful blend of film noir and fifties cool, featuring a modern jazz score by Henry Mancini (a bonus CD of the soundtrack is included in the set), outbreaks of the old ultra-violence, a gallery of eccentric and sleazy characters (usually informants, gangsters and Beat Generation bohemians), and great acting by series leads Craig Stevens (as Gunn), Lola Albright (as his squeeze, sultry nightclub singer Edie Hart) and Herschel Bernardi (as Gunn’s friend and competitor Lieutenant Jacoby, who seems to work all by himself 24 hours a day...

Boston — Mark Wahlberg says he's considering a jailhouse meeting with James "Whitey" Bulger, but victim's relatives are criticizing the actor's interest in the reputed former mob boss.
Bulger has reached out to Wahlberg, the actor told Boston's Waaf-fm radio Friday, and he speculated Bulger wants to give him rights to his story.
"He wants me to come down and visit him. Maybe he'll give me the exclusive rights to tell his story, `cause he knows, you know, we can do it better than anybody else," Wahlberg said.
Wahlberg grew up in South Boston, also Bulger's home when he ran a local gang in the `70s, `80s and `90s while working as an FBI informant. Bulger, 82, is accused of participating in 19 murders before fleeing in 1995, allegedly after his FBI handler tipped him that an indictment was coming. He was caught in California last year after 16 years on the run.
