Vincent Kartheiser has been cast as a lead in Fox’s legal drama pilot from Danny Strong and David Elliot. The untitled project is set at a wrongful conviction firm led by a fierce and fearless female lawyer. Her team reopens investigations, putting their own lives in danger to exonerate the innocent that were ‘proven’ guilty. Our lead’s motivation comes from her infamous past; as a young adult she was found guilty and later exonerated in a high-profile case in which she became a tabloid sensation, household name and national celebrity. While a hero and a victim to some, her bold...

Marlon Wayans and Mike Epps are attached to star in the Sony Pictures buddy action-comedy Any Means Necessary, which tells the story of 2 estranged brothers who pair up to go undercover, according to Deadline. The fact that one brother is a cop (Wayans), and the other is a criminal (Epps), should only add to the drama and comedy. Originally written by David Elliot and Paul Lovett (G.I. Stars: Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols, Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christopher Ecclestone | Written by Stuart Beattie, David Elliot, Paul Lovett | Directed by Stephen Sommers
With the eagerly-anticipated (at least by me) sequel set to hit cinemas this Wednesday I thought – as part of our <<Rewind strand – I’d go back and re-watch G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the original live action adaptation of the 80′s cartoon series and long-running action figure line, directed by Stephen Sommers.
Set in the not too distant future, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra opens with Army buddies Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) transporting a deadly nanomite weapon that’s been manufactured by Scottish arms magnate McCullen (Christopher Eccleston). However McCullen, who is also a member of terrorist organisation Cobra, is playing both sides and plans to steal his own device back and unleash the nanomites on an unsuspecting world.

At the end of April, Universal Studios celebrates its 100th anniversary. To mark the milestone, the studio has a heavy presence at the eleventh annual Tribeca Film Festival. Its upcoming comedy, "The Five-Year Engagement," opened Tribeca on Wednesday night, and on Thursday, the fest hosted Judd Apatow and Robert De Niro for an hour-long discussion about their contributions to the studio.
De Niro has made twelve films for Universal throughout his lauded career, including "Meet the Parents," "Cape Fear," "The Deer Hunter," "Casino" and "Midnight Run." All four of Apatow's directorial efforts ("The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Knocked Up," "Funny People" and the upcoming "This is 40") were released by Universal, as was the Apatow-produced comedy "Bridesmaids." (He also produced "Five-Year.") As Universal president and CEO Ron Meyer said at the beginning of the presentation, the two men are "an integral part of [the] organization."

We all issued a collective cringe and heavy sigh when, last month, it was announced that Brett Ratner would be helming a sequel to 1988′s Midnight Run. Robert De Niro‘s not raising his hands in objection — something tells me the original isn’t entirely “sacred” to him — and he’s even taking the extra step here, telling a group of attendees at Tribeca that he’ll be doing some writing on the film.
Although Tim Dowling‘s screenplay was already been the old once-over by David Elliot and Paul Lovett, De Niro offered this quick update; it was also revealed that the “in development” piece would pair his character, Jack Walsh, with the son of Charles Grodin‘s embezzler from the first time out. This is basically what we’ve heard for the past two years and, no, that doesn’t sound much better now that it’s official.

Sure, Midnight Run came out in 1988, but why not try to turn it into a franchise 20-odd years later?
Screenwriter Tim Dowling (Just Go with It, Role Models) was hired two years ago to write a sequel script that would allow Robert De Niro to reprise his role as bounty hunter Jack Walsh. Now the sequel may have a director in Brett Ratner (Tower Heist, the Rush Hour trilogy). Deadline reports that Ratner is in talks to direct the sequel for Universal, which has also hired screenwriters David Elliot and Paul Lovett (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Four Brothers) to rewrite Dowling's script.
De Niro is still attached to the project, but it's unlikely Charles Grodin — who played the embezzling mob accountant (Jonathan "The Duke" Mardukas) Walsh escorted to L.A. in the first movie — will step out of retirement to return.
This isn't the first attempt to create a Midnight Run franchise.

Midnight Run 2 is one of those belated sequels to a 1980s classic that (similar to Ghostbusters 3 and Beetlejuice 2) has begun inching ever closer to becoming a reality in recent years. Universal pushed harder to get the ball rolling on this project last year, when it hired on Timothy Dowling (Role Models, This Means War) to pen the screenplay.
The studio has since recruited writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett (Four Brothers, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) to rewrite Dowling’s script draft. Deadline says that negotiations have also begun to get Brett Ratner to direct the Midnight Run sequel, which original stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin have both expressed an interest in reuniting for.

Universal Pictures is moving ahead on Midnight Run 2. Deadline reports that the studio has hired writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett to rewrite the script. They are also negotiating with Brett Ratner to direct the sequel that has Robert De Niro attached to reprise his role as bounty hunter Jack Walsh. The film will be produced by De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca along with Ratner’s Rat Entertainment.
Tim Dowling wrote the first draft of the film early last year. The sequel will "continue the storyline of Walsh, the ex-Chicago cop who, when last seen, set free the turncoat mob accountant The Duke at Lax and walked away with a wad of cash he'd use to open a coffee shop." At this time, it is not known if Charles Grodin will reprise his role.
Ratner has a lot of experience directing buddy comedies after getting his start with Rush Hour.

Back in the eighties there were several decent comedies that defined that era with Midnight Run being one of those films. Robert De Niro was in his prime, it had a strong supporting cast, and a decent storyline, but there’s a reason why it was "one and done". According to Deadline, De Niro is all set to return as Jack Walsh, David Elliot and Paul Lovett (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) have been hired to re-write the script and Universal is in final negotiations to bring Brett Ratner on board to direct.

Love him or hate him, Brett Ratner is a guy who has no shortage of upcoming projects on his plate. Recently he has been in the process of lining up even more new gigs with development moving forward on Hercules starring Dwayne Johnson and a deal also in place for I Want My MTV over at Sony. Now this week, Deadline brings news that Ratner is also in talks to direct the upcoming sequel to Midnight Run. While I'm sure fans of the original will be dismayed to hear this news, I have to admit... he actually seems like an appropriate choice. I didn’t see Martin Brest’s “Midnight Run” until just a few years ago. Don’t get me wrong — it’s a fine motion picture, and I thoroughly enjoyed the back-and-forth between stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. However, the film didn’t live up to the hype, due in part, I think, to my dislike for Grodin. The guy just rubs me the wrong way. Apparently a lot of people adore this flick, so much so that someone wearing an expensive suit believes that we need a sequel. Universal recently hired David Elliot and Paul Lovett, the literary masterminds behind “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”, to pen a sequel to the 1988 comedy, which will chronicle the on-going adventures of badass ex-cop Jack Walsh (De Niro). If the studio has their way, “Rush Hour” director Brett Ratner will helm the production. God, I can’t even type...

Released in 1988, action comedy Midnight Run starred Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin as a mis matched bounty hunter and his bounty on the run from the mob and the F.B.I. It's one of my favorite De Niro films, and comedy's in general, so I'm of two minds when it was announced that Brett Ratner (Tower Heist and the Rush Hour series) is negotiations to direct a sequel, with De Niro reprising his role of bounty hunter Jack Walsh. There is no word of Grodin returning. He retired from acting in 2000 to spend time with his family, he would consider reprising his role from the film if the opportunity ever arose. Universal Pictures are reviving plans for a 25-years-later sequel to their well remembered 1988 classic Midnight Run, which has original star Robert De Niro attached to reprise his tough bounty hunter Jack Walsh.
Deadline reports that Brett Ratner (Tower Heist, Rush Hour) has now entered talks to sit in the director’s chair which has sent the Internet film community into a furious rage but just like his recent attachment to the MTV origins movie “I Want My MTV”, I actually think this is a property where he could deliver something decent out of. He did himself make a decent mismatched buddy action comedy with the first Rush Hour movie, though where his mindset was for the sequels I don’t know.
G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra and Four Brothers writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett have been tasked with re-writing Tom Dowling’s (Role Models) original script for Midnight Run 2.

Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct while David Elliot & Paul Lovett have been brought on to rewrite the script for the "Midnight Run" sequel at Universal Pictures says Deadline.
The profanity-laced original 1988 action-comedy road movie starred Robert De Niro as a bounty hunter on a cross-country journey attempting to bring back his latest catch, an embezzler (Charles Grodin).
Though not a major hit, the film was critically well-received and has scored a strong following in the two subsequent decades since its release.
Elliot & Lovett ("Four Brothers," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") will re-write an earlier script by Timothy Dowling ("Role Models") which teams De Niro's character with a young comedic foil.
De Niro remains attached to reprise his role and will produce along with Ratner and Jane Rosenthal.

"Looks like I'm walking."
Those were the last words uttered by bounty hunter Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) just before the closing credits rolled in "Midnight Run," stranded in Los Angeles because his would-be cab driver couldn't break a thousand dollar bill.
Now, 24 years later, we'll soon be seeing whether Jack opened that coffee shop with the $200,000 given to him by his former bounty, mob accountant Jonathan 'The Duke' Mardukas (Charles Grodin), in "Midnight Run 2," according to Deadline.
Brett Ratner, who admittedly gave us another pretty great mismatched pair in the "Rush Hour" series, will be directing the sequel, with De Niro set to reprise his role as Walsh. No word on whether all but retired actor Charles Grodin will be returning as Mardukas, but he apparently expressed interest in doing so if the project became a reality.

Midnight Run is about to get Ratner-fied. Development on a sequel to the 1988 buddy action-comedy began in early 2010 when word came that Universal was working on a follow-up with star Robert De Niro attached to reprise his bounty hunter role from the original. Now comes word that Mr. Brett Ratner is in talks to direct the sequel and screenwriters David Elliot and Paul Lovett (G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra) have been tapped to perform a rewrite. For those unfamiliar, the first film starred De Niro as a bounty hunter tasked with escorting an embezzler (Charles Grodin) across the country. Hit the jump for more on Midnight Run 2. News of Ratner's involvement with Midnight Run 2 comes courtesy of Deadline. As the man behind the Rush Hour franchise, Ratner certainly has experience with buddy comedies (albeit not good ones). Variety reported that producer Lauren Shuler Donner and Disney exec LouAnne Brickhouse joined the project as producers with the goal of creating a major franchise with multiple films, spin-off merchandise, TV shows, theme park rides and video games. Quell your excitement, 90s nerds. According to Disney, this live-action exploration into the world of those stony skyscraper protectors, Gargoyles, will have nothing to do with the super awesome 90s cartoon they produced of the same name. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) are the latest to take a crack at a live-action film that involves gargoyles coming to life (the film would be quite boring if they didn’t). The film is said to involve the statues watching over the cities where they are located, as architectural “guardian angels.” For more on the project, hit the jump. For those worried that the scribes of the Joe film might not be who they want cracking the gargoyle egg, I should remind you that they also wrote the entertaining Four Brothers over at Paramount. Clearly, those two credits are very different in terms of tone,...

No, before you get too excited, this is not a re-imagining of the old TV movie of the week of the same name which features some of the late great Stan Winston's amazing monster effects. We're talking an entirely different property.
According to Variety, writing duo David Elliot and Paul Lovett (G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra) are the latest scribes to tackle a project that explores the world of gargoyles at Disney.
The two, whose credits also include Paramount's Four Brothers, pitched an original take to the Mouse House that the studio is keen on exploring as a live action film. Lauren Shuler Donner (the X-Men franchise) will produce.
The project is not tied to Gargoyles, the popular animated TV series that Disney produced in the 1990s. Instead, it centers on a world in which the stony statues on buildings come to life. Elliot and Lovett would portray...

Disney has been trying to get a Gargoyles project to fly for some time now. The proposed film isn't tied to the animated series or the made-for-television flick of the same name. Instead, this is a new property the Mouse House hopes to exploit across various platforms - film, television, video games, theme parks, etc. That said, Variety reports Disney has hired writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett to pen a script. They're the duo that gave us G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra . Lauren Shuler Donner will produce. The film is being considered for live-action.

Avatar stays atop the box office; Is Teresa Palmer taking a trip down Fury Road? Bill Murray joins Fox and Rourke in Passion Play; Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are in line for the Crowne and Mark Wahlberg thinks that Four Brothers is so 2005 and that we must upgrade to Five!
Box Office
Avatar held on to its usual position over the Martin Luther King weekend with an estimated gross of $50 million. With $500 million already in the bank, it is now a sure thing that the James Cameron film will top Titanic as the highest grossing film of all time at the Us domestic box office, as well as worldwide. It’s a sight that I never thought that I’d see for a long time.

Remember John Singleton's 2005 thriller "Four Brothers"? The film in which Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, André Benjamin and Garrett Hedlund kicked butt? Well, that film is about to get a sequel, courtesy of Paramount Pictures.
To be honest, I am among those who really enjoyed the first film, an intense flick that certainly had its problems but definitely captured my attention. Original writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett are penning the script for the sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter says the film will be titled "Five Brothers." Mark Wahlberg will be back to star, and he even came up with the idea with Elliot and Lovett. No other details have been released about the planned follow-up at this stage.

Blah. The first movie was fine, but is there much call for a Four Brothers sequel? The 2005 Mark Wahlberg movie was a reimagining of the western, The Sons of Katie Elder, and it had some good qualities, I guess, but I never thought at the time, "I'd like to see what happens next."
Paramount, however, would like to see what happens next, and unlike the studio's Italian Job sequel that has never materialized, Mark Wahlberg is itching to make this follow-up. The Hollywood Reporter indicates it has the working title Five. Blah again.
Wahlberg has been working with writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett, who crafted John Singleton's original (or original remake, anyway), but no plot points are at the ready. I don't think we'd see much of Garrett Hedlund, however, unless this becomes a zombie movie. In that case, I'd be significantly more interested.

In 2005 John Singleton directed a film called Four Brothers which starred Mark Wahlberg. Paramount is now keen on developing a sequel bringing back many of the creative team members for Five Brothers.
Mark Wahlberg is eyeing a return to star and hatched the sequel idea with original writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett. Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura will also be back to produce the sequel as well. The first film revolved around four adopted brothers (Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin and Garrett Hedlund) who come together to avenge their mother’s death in what at first appears to be a random robbery. Although not a massive hit, it still grossed a nice $74 million in the domestic boxoffice.
It seems like Hedlund would be the only one not to return as he was killed in the first film, that being said its unknown who else would come back for the sequel...

When "Four" isn't enough, try "Five." Mark Wahlberg and Paramount are developing "Five Brothers," a sequel to the 2005 crime film "Four Brothers." That film starred Tyrese Gibson, Sndre Benjamin and Garret Hedlund alongside of Wahlberg as four adopted siblings, although Hedlund will likely be out of this new movie, considering he was killed off. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wahlberg approached "Four Brothers" writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett with the idea of the sequel. John Singleton directed the first film, which grossed $74 million. Meanwhile, Wahlberg can be seen even sooner in "The Lovely Bones," opening nationwide tomorrow. ...

Mark Wahlberg is in development with Paramount for a sequel to Four Brothers. With only a title, plot details for Five Brothers are thin on the ground. But original writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett (GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra) and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura are on board. All they need now is confirmation from director John Singleton (Shaft) and the remaining actors. Tyrese Gibson and Andre Benjamin would presumably take their original roles, with a new brother (or two) to be named. The original took its...

Mark Wahlberg's 2005 film "Four Brothers" was a modest success in the theaters taking in just under $75 million domestically with a reported production budget of around $45 million.
The film focused on 4 adopted brothers who come back together to avenge the murder of their mother.
Wahlberg must have really enjoyed the film, because despite not being a "hit", he is reportedly concocting an idea for a sequel that he would title "Five Brothers".
Apparently the film's original writers, David Elliot and Paul Lovett are already working on a script and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura would be back on to produce.
Question: Did you see the first "Four Brothers"? Do you think it lends itself to a sequel?

It's not only geek fare that gets the sequel love. In a fairly surprising twist, The Hollywood Reporter posts that Paramount is looking to develop a sequel to the 2005 thriller, Four Brothers. Mark Wahlberg, who starred in the original alongside Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin, and Garret Hedlund, is credited with scheming up this sequel idea with the first film's writers -- David Elliot and Paul Lovett. Now Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is back to produce, the pair are writing the script, and it will be called ... Five Brothers, which makes no sense.
If you recall, the original saw these four adopted brothers coming together to avenge their mother's death. Spoiler alert -- not all of them make it. So four brothers, partially depleted, and then sent into a sequel called Five Brothers? The plot is being kept hidden for the time being, and THR rightly notes that it's not clear whether...

Mark Wahlberg is looking to star and hatched the sequel idea with original writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett, who are writing the script. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is back to produce. In the 2005 release, the Mercer brothers - hotheaded Bobby (Wahlberg), hard-edged Angel (Tyrese Gibson), family man and businessman Jeremiah (André Benjamin), and hard rocking Jack (Garrett Hedlund) - reunite to take the matter of their adoptive mother's death into their own hands. As they track down the killer, they quickly realize that their old ways of doing business have new consequences. Plot details for the follow-up are being kept under wraps.

That's right, kids, apparently the film industry has become so obsessed with sequels that Paramount and Mark Wahlberg (via THR) have found it necessary to attempt a follow-up to a film that wasn't all that successful to begin with, and honestly doesn't even need a sequel. The film in question is the 2005 thriller Four Brothers which followed, obviously, four brothers (Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin, and Garret Hedlund) who come together to avenge their mother's death in what at first appears to be a random robbery. Plot details for the sequel are still being kept under wraps but it will be called Five Brothers. Wahlberg apparently came up with the idea with original writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett, but no word if any other cast members other than Wahlberg will return or if director John Singleton will be back either. However, (spoiler!) Hedlund's character died in the first film,...

I guess Mark Wahlberg really enjoyed making 2005's Four Brothers, because THR is reporting that he has gotten the ball rolling on a sequel entitled Five Brothers. Wahlberg apparently developed the sequel idea with the first film's writers, David Elliot and Paul Lovett (who both also worked on G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra). He's also set to star, but it's uncertain if any of the previous cast members would be returning (of those who survived the first film). Five doesn't yet have a director, but I'm thinking there's a good chance that Four's director, John Singleton, could return. (And if he does, you can bet Tyrese Gibson does as well --- Singleton hasn't done a film without him since 2001.) I'm a fan of the first film, even though it generally seems to be ignored by movie lovers. It was loosely based on the John Wayne-starring Western...

A sequel to John Singleton's 2005 drama "Four Brothers" is in development at Paramount Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
Mark Wahlberg, who starred in the original, came up with the idea along with original film's scribes David Elliot and Paul Lovett who will pen the screenplay. The original pulled in a modest but decent $74 million.
Entitled "Five Brothers", the story details are being kept under wraps but will likely include three of the five original characters - hotheaded Bobby (Wahlberg), hard-edged Angel (Tyrese Gibson), businessman Jeremiah (André Benjamin).
The fourth, Garrett Hedlund's sensitive Jack, died in the first film but the actor might return in flashbacks (though doubtful). Lorenzo Di Bonaventura will return to produce.

While John Singleton’s Four Brothers didn’t smash any box office records ($74 million) or receive huge critical acclaim (52% Fresh at Rotten Tomatoes), I think it’s a solid little flick so I’m happy that, according to THR, Paramount is developing a sequel called Five Brothers. For those who don’t know, the original was about four adopted brothers avenging the death of their mother. Mark Wahlberg, who came up with an idea for a new story with original writers David Elliot and Paul Lovett, will return to star with Lorenzo Di Bonaventura coming back to produce. There’s currently no word if co-stars Andre Benjamin and Tyrese Gibson will return, or if Singleton will direct. Hopefully, the other principals from the first film will come on board, because Four Brothers is good movie, and it’s always nice when smaller, underappreciated films can grab a second go round.

We're not sure who's been hanging outside the cinema clamouring for this one, but apparently Mark Wahlberg is planning a sequel to Four Brothers, his 2005 thriller that co-starred Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin and Garret Hedlund. Only this time he's calling it... Five Brothers. After checking the calendar, we're pretty sure it's not April 1 and he's therefore serious.
