When reviewing a horror movie for Nerdly, I didn’t think I would ever begin my review with a sentence like ‘from the director of She’s the Man, The Game Plan, Race To Witch Mountain and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, comes a new horror movie’, but here we are.
Andy Fickman is the said director and Don’t Turn Out the Lights shows a group of friends travelling in a motorhome to a music festival when they come across something supernatural after their mode of transport breaks down. It’s no doubt a story that horror movie fans will have heard before but it does at least bring a few surprises.
First, I will get my biggest annoyance with the movie out of the way.

Andy Fickman’s tale of generically ill-fated obnoxious twentysomethings is cursed with thinly drawn characters
If the ritualistic nature of horror means higher tolerance for cliche in the genre, director Andy Fickman runs with that in this brash but increasingly shambolic slasher. You’ve probably heard it all before: a clique of supremely annoying twentysomethings convene for party girl Olivia’s (Crystal Lake Evans) birthday, and head to music festival Blue Light. With the posse packed into her boyfriend Michael’s (Jarrett Austin Brown) Rv, Sarah (Amber Janea) and Gaby (Ana Zambrana) – Black and Latina respectively – wind up a couple of bigoted rednecks en route. And that’s before the more cautious Carrie (Bella DeLong) and former marine Jason (John Bucy) ask for directions in the proverbial Backwoods Bar Where Everyone Stops and Stares.
Delivered in an overcranked performance style reminiscent of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead, there’s something...

Andy Fickman’s Don’t Turn Out the Lights brings a group of friends together for a birthday celebration and road trip to a music festival. But their plans hit a bump when vehicle troubles leave them stranded in creepy woods at night. As strange occurrences escalate around their Rv hiding place, tensions rise within the group as well.
Fickman takes his time introducing the seven travelers early on. We learn about their relationships and personalities through lighthearted exchange during the drive. Birthday girl Olivia brings along her closest pals from high school days. Also along for the adventure are Olivia’s musician boyfriend Michael and his rugged ex-military roommate Jason. The characters feel authentic in their interactions, giving a grounded starting point before eerie turns.
Disagreements first surface when their van breaks down, hiking up tensions further when uncanny events start. Personality clashes and distrust sow seeds that the looming mystery may exploit.

Your Tuesday jut got a bit more magical thanks to the first trailer for “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” the upcoming continuation of the beloved Disney Channel original. And if this new look is anything to go by, this upcoming installment promises to have all of the heart and sass of the original 2007 sitcom.
The new installment takes place after the events of the original, which concluded with Alex (Selena Gomez) being named the Russo Family Wizard and Justin (David Henrie) being named Headmaster, a role that allowed him to retain his magic abilities. In the years since this familial battle over who would remain a wizard, Justin has built a normal life for himself with a non-magical wife and two sons. That’s a big reason why he’s shocked to see his sister again with a new young wizard in tow.

For ten years, we as moviegoers were treated to both the rise and fall of the DC Extended Universe, or Decu for short (read our rankings here). The rise began with the release of Man of Steel in 2013, directed by Zack Snyder, marking the start of an ambitious plan to create a shared cinematic universe featuring iconic DC Comics characters. This was followed by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad which expanded the universe and introduced key characters. They were both met with less-than-stellar reviews. Over the years we would see success like Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam as well as James Gunn’s brilliant take on The Suicide Squad. There were also mixed-reviewed films like Justice League, Wonder Woman 1984, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash (which we loved). The Dceu couldn’t compete with Marvel with tons of these movies failing to connect with critics and audiences.

If you were cataloging the signs of a stage musical that has had a robust life over a period of not just years but decades, here are two things that might be included on that list:
A) The show engenders such a sense of family among those who’ve performed it that even members of casts from different times and places mix well together, and…
B) You could practically create an entire alternate version of the musical just by doing a separate assemblage of the very good songs that were cut as the show went through different incarnations.
Both these signposts came to the fore in “Reefer Madness: The Musical Reunion Concert,” a one-time performance bringing together actors and creatives who’ve been a part of different productions of the cult show “Reefer Madness” over the past quarter-century-plus. The retrospective concert was produced as a benefit last week at the Whitley Theatre in Hollywood,...

According to Og director Andy Fickman, who served as the evening’s emcee, Mary Lane star Kristen Bell chipped her tooth on a pullout couch in her trailer while filming the 2005 Showtime movie musical adaptation. Ever since his debut in Coach Carter at 25 years old, Channing Tatum has been one of the most watchable actors working today. He is genuinely funny and, with his muscular physique, he's well-suited to both romantic comedies and high-octane action movies. He conveys a boyish earnestness that makes him great in indie fare like Havoc and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints. It also doesn't hurt that Tatum has a background as a professional dancer.
Channing Tatum's best films showcase the unique likability and sincerity that make him more than just a Hollywood heartthrob. He's a compelling actor to watch on screen because he feels relatable, almost like someone that would be in a viewer's high school friend group. As audiences eagerly await Blink Twice, which stars Tatum as a sinister and charming billionaire, there are plenty of other films in the actor's canon worth watching.

Because memes never truly die, the disastrous Willy Wonka exhibit that spawned such viral images as the sad Oompa Loompa and ‘The Unknown’ now has a fully produced musical parody on the way titled Willy’s Candy Spectacular. Because that alone isn’t absurd enough, original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory actors Julie Dawn Cole and Paris Themmen have officially joined the cast.
Cole and Themmen, who respectively portrayed Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee in the 1971 classic, will serve as narrators in live stage readings of Willy’s Candy Spectacular, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The readings are set to go down at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with Cole leading the production from August 9th to August 18th and Themmen taking over from August 19th to August 26th.

After more than 50 years, two actors are diving back into the world of Willy Wonka (sort of). Julie Dawn Cole and Paris Themmen, two of the child stars of 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, will participate in a live stage reading of Willy’s Candy Spectacular, an upcoming musical parody inspired by a disastrous Wonka event that made international headlines earlier this year.
Cole played the insatiable Veruca Salt in the classic movie starring Gene Wilder as chocolatier Willy Wonka, while Themmen played the cowboy hat wearing Mike Teavee. Both will participate in a live reading at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, serving as narrators. Cole will lead the cast from Aug. 9 to 18, with Themmen stepping in from Aug. 19-26.
Willy’s Candy Spectacular was inspired by a real-life Wonka event in Scotland, which organizers advertised as “immersive experience” that would transport Willy Wonka fans to a “magical realm.

After being blown away by the Prime Video adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel Daisy Jones & The Six, I decided to circle back and read the author’s debut novel, the “tragic love story” drama Forever, Interrupted… and as the story went on, I became more and more surprised that it hadn’t yet received an adaptation of some sort. It seemed ready to be brought to the screen as a heartbreaking and heartwarming movie or TV show, with solid roles for two lead actresses. Well, now it’s getting its adaptation. Glamour reports (via Deadline) that Margaret Qualley (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) are set to star in a limited series adaptation of Forever, Interrupted that’s coming our way from A24 and the Netflix streaming service.

Updated with latest: Selena Gomez revealed the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel title at Disney’s upfront Tuesday. The spinoff will be called Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. She also shared two first-look images which can be found below.
Deadline broke the news of the sequel series in January. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.
The original show ran four seasons, winning Emmys and doing well in the ratings until star Selena Gomez decided it was time to graduate to more adult roles. The show ran from 2007-2012, with Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie also airing on the Disney Channel in 2009. The cast returned for a stand-alone television special, The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, in 2013.
There have been rumors of another reunion ever since and now, after a decade, Disney is making them a reality.

No man is an island. As much as we hate to admit it, sometimes, no one gets anywhere in life without someone believing in them. The same is true for Hollywood. It takes the stars aligning (pun intended) for any success story for anyone to really make it, and especially to escape the shadow of how they may be initially perceived.
There may be no better example of that than Mr. Channing Tatum. He told GQ in 2009, “I got crazy lucky. Like, sometimes I think I won the lottery or something. I don’t really know how I got here. But I just keep moving forward, and it just keeps getting better and better.” Had the stars aligned differently, he could have been just an exotic dancer and never entered the public consciousness. Or just a model. Or just played a jock. Or just played generic romantic leads. Or just played generic action roles.
