1923 Season 2, Episode 5, titled “Only Gunshots to Guide Us,” is a Brandon Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer episode, in which they play Spencer and Alexandra, respectively. The chapter continues to depict their struggle—like a dream where you try to reach your destination, but it never ends. The writing is designed to highlight the depth of their love.
In this episode, Taylor Sheridan delves deeper into character development and places them in harm’s way. Surprisingly, after heavy focus on these stars in previous weeks, the episode does not include contributions from Harrison Ford’s Jacob or Helen Mirren’s Cara. At least we get a break from Elizabeth (Landman’s Michelle Randolph) encountering a wolf, a mountain lion, and, I imagine, a giant moose in the coming weeks.

1923 is an expansion of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe, with the spin-off show’s second installment now in full swing. However, according to one of the show’s stars, Sheridan distanced himself from the production of season 2. The prolific writer-producer wasn’t present on the sets during the filming of the second installment. As a result, Sheridan’s choice to remain on the sidelines could prove to be a costly mistake as the big-budget spectacle aims to stick the landing.

L2E Empuraan Trailer Review (Photo Credit – Instagram)
The makers of the Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer L2 Empuraan released the trailer of the movie at midnight taking the internet by frenzy. The movie serves as a sequel to Mohalal’s 2019 actioner Lucifer and is directed by Prithviraj himself. The trailer introduces us to the political backdrop of the Kerala elections. We see intense deceit and subterfuge at play for the coveted positions of power. The power-hungry politicians and ministers are shown to stoop to extreme levels to elevate their force.

This article contains spoilers for "1923" season 2, episode 4.
"Yellowstone" failed to address several unanswered questions before the show's fifth and (presumably) final season wrapped up. The good news, though, is that Taylor Sheridan's Western franchise keeps producing spin-offs that fill in some of the blanks regarding those mysteries, with "1923" season 2, episode 4, "Journey the Rivers of Iron," finally explaining the origins of the Dutton family's beloved "train station" dumping ground.
For those who are unfamiliar with "Yellowstone" lore, the train station is a canyon located in an unpopulated county between Montana and Wyoming. With no people around, it's the perfect place to dispose of the bodies of the countless folks who've paid for crossing the Dutton family and getting in the way of its interests. "Yellowstone" establishes that the Duttons have used the spot for generations -- but they weren't the first individuals to discover it.

Winter rages on in the fourth episode of 1923's second season, "Journey the Rivers of Iron." After the first three episodes, it's clear nothing will be easy for the Duttons or the people they care about — and episode 4 offers very little in the way of a reprieve.
However, Episode 4 does answer many of the questions and uncertainties presented in previous episodes. Spencer Dutton's (Brandon Sklenar) efforts to get home to Montana and to be reunited with Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) continue while her latest threat plays itself out. Jacob and Cara Dutton care for Zane Davis (Brian Geraghty) and his family alongside Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph) and Jack Dutton (Darren Mann) as they find themselves at odds. Meanwhile, Donald Whitfield's (Timothy Dalton) machinations continue and reveal just how far he's willing to go to take what he wants.

1923 Season 2, Episode 4, titled “Journey the Rivers of Iron,” continues its fine character study on how humans endure the harshest elements—both psychological and physical. It also, with a touch of cinematic grace, explores how love can be tested and endure through the worst conditions.

Love or loathe him, 1923's most wicked character, Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton), is making Season 2 of the Yellowstone spin-off a must-see event. Much has been written about the slimy character's sadistic abuse and repulsive sexual proclivities, and whether he takes them too far. But without him, the YellowstoneOrigin Story would be robbed of its most terrifying villain, and fans would be robbed of an enjoyable season of TV.
Speaking of suffering, Whitfield appears in the Season 2 premiere and instantly strikes fear into the heads and hearts of the Dutton family. Unlike the first season, which introduced Whitfield to viewers in Episode 4, Season 2 shocks fans to the bone with Whitfield's immediate presence and torturous behavior. Controversial as it may sound, 1923 has improved Season 2 with the instant inclusion of Whitfield.

1923continues to flesh out the Dutton Family Saga as its second and final season builds to a crescendo. The final season of the hit prequel series follows the Duttons through a harsh winter as they work hard to maintain their family ranch despite numerous attackers from the outside. Meanwhile, Spencer and Alexandra Dutton go on separate adventures in a desperate attempt to get to Montana before they lose the ranch. Even with all this drama, fans are still obsessed with a different question altogether.

Blumhouse's latest thriller starring 1923's Brandon Sklenar and The White Lotus' Meghann Fahy has debuted with strong reviews from critics. Skelnar plays a prominent role in the cast of 1923, Taylor Sheridan's popular Yellowstone prequel, as Spencer Dutton, the nephew of Harrison Ford's Jacob Dutton. The hit Paramount+ series returned for season 2 last month, with Skelnar reprising his role in an impressive cast that includes Helen Mirren, Jerome Flynn, Timothy Dalton, and Robert Patrick.
Fahy, on the other hand, will be best known to many audiences for her role as Daphne Sullivan in The White Lotus season 2. Taylor Sheridan is known to be one of the most prolific and hands-on television producers working today. Currently, there are multiple shows on the air that he's involved with as a creator, producer, writer, and director. But in a recent interview with RadioTimes.com (via Collider), 1923 actor Jerome Flynn said Sheridan wasn't on set for the filming of Season 2, despite writing the scripts. Instead, Ben Richardson, a frequent collaborator, director, and producer, was entrusted to handle the show.
Richardson has directed, produced, and filmed (as cinematographer) several of Sheridan's various shows, including Yellowstone, 1923, 1883, and Mayor of Kingstown. It appears he's become one of Sheridan's trusted collaborators, which allows the producer to focus on his current and upcoming projects.
Flynn explained:
"He's so close to Ben [Richardson] the director – who directed every episode – that they work together as a team, and he trusts him implicitly. Taylor's so busy working on the plethora...

Taylor Sheridan’s fingerprints are all over 1923, but according to one of the show's stars, Jerome Flynn, the Yellowstone creator never actually set foot on set during the production of the prequel’s second season, suggesting that he is perhaps not quite as hands on as some may have suspected. The former Game of Thrones star, who stars as Banner Creighton in 1923, recently revealed to RadioTimes.com that Sheridan left the hands-on directing to his trusted collaborators, specifically Ben Richardson, who was in charge of directing every episode of the season.

“Game of Thrones,” the groundbreaking HBO series that aired from 8 seasons, captivated audiences worldwide with its intricate storytelling, complex characters, and unexpected plot twists. Based on George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels, the show transported viewers to the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, where noble families vied for power amidst dragons, magic, and political intrigue. As the series concluded, each main character’s journey reached a defining end, leaving a lasting impact on fans and the realm they inhabited.

Not everyone agrees that the final season of "Game of Thrones" is an absolute stinker — and by that, I mean some of my esteemed colleagues here at /Film think it's not so bad — but there's no denying that some of the show's characters fared better than others. Throughout eight seasons and ten years of the massively popular HBO fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin's novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire," it's also safe to say that said characters endure a lot of trauma, from losing loved ones to facing violent assaults ... so does anyone really get a happy ending in Westeros?
Yes and no. Obviously, there's not enough time to rank every single character's ending here. Some people, like Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Ser Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen), don't make it to the series finale "The Iron Throne," so their endings aren't chronicled here (though it's...

Taylor Sheridan crafts stories that unfold in a single hour of ruthless, unforgiving television. Case in point: 1923’s Season 2, Episode 2, titled “The Rapist is Winter,” is as cold as a frigid Montana night. This thrilling and visually evocative episode lingers long after it ends.
The second chapter of 1923‘s sophomore season continues the storylines of Whitfield’s (Timothy Dalton) vision for the Duttons’ land. While driving through snowy roads with Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn), he spots men strangely gliding down the steep white powder hills.
When they approach, they are Norwegians, and Banner permits them to do what they call “skiing” down the hills. Whitfield asks several questions, including whether children can learn this. He continually tells Banner he needs vision, indicating he wants to make Yellowstone a family vacation spot.

Season 2 of 1923 returns to Montana and the saga of the Duttons with the intensity fans have come to expect from Taylor Sheridan and the Yellowstone world. As winter rages and desperation reigns, it is clear throughout the first two episodes that life and love for the Duttons are destined to be as difficult as ever.
Episode 1, "The Killing Season," had an ominous title, but the second episode of season 2 of 1923 was even more menacing. Called "The Rapist Is Winter," Episode 2 was every bit as harsh and unrelenting as its predecessor, if not more so. Cara Dutton and Elizabeth Stafford try to keep the wolves at bay while Jacob Dutton (Harrison Ford) and his traveling companions refuse to back down from the threats winter brings.

Quick LinksWho Is '1923's Donald Whitfield?Whitfield's S&m Fetish in '1923'How '1923' Season 2, Episode 1 Takes Whitfield's S&m Too Far
With Season 2 of 1923 premiering on Paramount+ on February 23, 2025, here's hoping that Taylor Sheridan will refrain from showcasing Donald Whitfield's repulsive sex fetish. Indeed, the great Timothy Dalton, who famously portrayed the charmingly elegant James Bond in the 1980s, arguably plays the most vile character on television in the Yellowstone spin-off.
If Whitfield's wicked ways willingly continue, 1923 will lose a viewer immediately. It's one thing to portray a character's untoward sexual desires, but it's quite another to revel in such disturbing and violent sadomasochistic humility as seen in Season 2, Episode 1, "The Killing Season." Far from a sole writer's opinion, the outcry on Reddit supports the sentiment that Whitfield ought to be nixed.

George R.R. Martin is credited with creating some of the greatest literary characters ever made. Through what we believe would have been a process full of deep thought, meticulous planning, and countless revisions, the author must have spent hours crafting the perfect characters for the complex world of Westeros. However, on the other side, one such brilliant character seemed to have emerged almost effortlessly.

Such was the case for Bronn, the menacing, sword-for-hire, who ends up being a personal guard for Tyrion Lannister. Martin once admitted that even he, as an author, was shocked with the way the character came up and became an integral part of the tale of Westeros.

"For instance, I thought that I was told that Helen had already signed on, so that was the bait [for me], and she was told that I was signed on," Ford continued, with Mirren, who was also present, good-humoredly declaring, "I'm the carrot!"

This article contains spoilers for the "1923" Season 2 premiere.
We are only one episode in, but "1923" Season 2 has already set up some intriguing drama for its upcoming episodes. The Duttons are low on numbers as Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton) and Banner Creighton (Jerome Flynn) up the ante in an effort to claim their land, made worse by the fact wolves and lions are invading the family's sought-after property. Elsewhere, newlyweds Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) have been separated in Europe and must find a way to get to Montana on their own, which won't be an easy task. Then again, when is life ever easy for the Duttons?
Despite this season boasting some compelling storylines, however, it isn't all good. Much like Season 1, this second installment already includes some unnecessary gross-out moments -- namely, Whitfield and his habit of making sex workers Lindy (Madison Elise Rogers...

As a prequel to Yellowstone and a sequel to 1883, Taylor Sheridan's 1923 is a captivating look at another chapter in the Dutton family saga. Season 2 of 1923 begins where the first season ended, with the Duttons, led by Jacob (Harrison Ford) and his wife, Cara (Helen Mirren), fighting opponents of all kinds to hold onto their land.
Throughout Season 1 of 1923, Spencer Dutton's (Brandon Sklenar) experiences in Africa and his efforts to survive were juxtaposed against the threats to his family in Montana. The gun battle between the Duttons and Banner Creighton's (Jerome Flynn) group highlights the war that rages in Montana, a conflict to which Spencer is compelled to return.
This same intensity and desperation permeate Episode 1 as each member of the Dutton family attempts to survive "The Killing Season." Here's where 1923 picked up and where things are for the Duttons at the start of the second season.

The season premiere of the second (and confirmed final) season of 1923 remains cinematic. It has honest-to-God star power—not only because the series features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, rising star Brandon Sklenar, and an Emmy-worthy turn by Aminah Nieves.
Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923‘s second season is worth watching because the series is brimming with magnetism, flawless writing, thought-provoking themes, and genuinely engaging storytelling. As displayed at the start of the sophomore effort is the type of old-fashioned Hollywood storytelling they don’t make anymore.

Harrison Ford has dipped his toes into many movie genres in his long and prolific career. This year he made the once unthinkable sidestep into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, taking over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from the late William Hurt in Captain America: Brave New World, but there is one genre that he loves more than any other: Westerns. However, his reason for loving the old-fashioned world of cowboys and dusty period settings makes it even more bizarre that he ever ended up appearing in the MCU at all.
Saddling up for a good Western, such as his return to the Yellowstone universe show, 1923, brings him a lot of contentment, and the reason for that is the genre’s use of real, tangible environments and a lack of reliance on technologically advanced CGI effects. It’s been nearly two years since 1923 first introduced us to the early struggles of the Dutton family, who lived in a bone-dry, plague-stricken area of Montana in the early 20th Century. The family faced drought, internal conflict, and rising tensions between sheep and cattle farmers, as well as external threats from rivals salivating over their land.
Finally, after way too long of a wait, the hit western returns with more struggles as the Dutton family saga continues. Season 1 wrapped up with plenty of drama involving land disputes, heartbreak, and life-or-death journeys that are sure to shape the future of the ranch and its inhabitants. Now, with 1923 set to return this weekend, here are six things to remember about season 1 before season 2 arrives.

Review: While Yellowstone finished its run just a couple of months ago, Taylor Sheridan’s second prequel series still has a few more stories about the origin of the Dutton Ranch in Montana. Following the acclaimed ten-episode run of 1883, Sheridan jumped into the twentieth century with the Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren-led 1923. Envisioned as a two-season epic, 1923′s first season was a massive success as it blended a sprawling period epic across multiple continents and chronicled the early days of the Duttons...

The second (possibly final) season of 1923 remains cinematic. It has honest-to-God star power—not only because the series features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, but also because Brandon Sklenar, after a successful summer with It Ends With Us, has now taken the reins as a full-fledged movie star on your streaming screen.
Sklenar commands your attention with the charisma and magnetism of a young Harrison Ford. You simply cannot take your eyes off him. And with rumors of 1923 coming to a close this season, Paramount+ would be smart to lock in a third, giving Sklenar full studio backing to take the Yellowstone chapter into the future.
