Ryan Murphy is no stranger to controversy. In his shows, he openly showcases the Lgbtqia+ community and doesn't shy away from social commentary. Recently, a lot of criticism has centered around Murphy's true-crime shows, like Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. But, he made his first notable mark on the controversial TV scene back in 2011 with the premiere of American Horror Story.
American Horror Story is one of the best-known horror shows of the modern era. It's known for its iconic ensemble cast, with names like Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson popping up frequently throughout the season. The show always features themes reflecting cultural anxieties, horror genre tropes, or just general spookiness. But no two seasons feature the same themes, as it's an anthology series with a new setting, plot, and characters every season.

Although there are still a few weeks before most kids get their much anticipated Spring breaks, another “family-friendly” franchise flick arrives which hopes to give a bit of warmth to the chilly last weeks of Winter. Now December, and 2024, finished up with two such films, Mufasa: The Lion King which is a rare sequel/prequel in Disney’s series, and another adventure of the video game superstar, Sonic The Hedgehog 3. Like the latter, this new release is the third outing, and it also mixes a CGI-animated character in a live-action world. However, it also shares its origins with the current (for the last two weeks) box office champ Dog Man, which is based on a beloved series of children’s books. Now can the filmmakers score a rare “hat trick’ as the first sequel is so admired that it was ‘name-checked” at the end...

When she was 16, Mala Emde liked to hang out in jazz bars and talk to strange men.
“I was a weird teenager,” says the German actress, now 28. “I think I was just scared of everything people my age were doing. There was something comforting for me in going to a jazz bar and talking to older, more experienced people about this music I knew nothing about.”
These days, when it comes to jazz, Emde can hold her own. In Köln 75, which has its world premiere on Feb.16 at the Berlin Film Festival as part of the Berlinale Special lineup, she plays the real-life Vera Brandes, another weird teenager with a taste for jazz bars. At 18, Brandes organized a concert in Cologne for jazz pianist Keith Jarrett. The recording of Jarrett’s totally improvised performance became the best-selling solo jazz album of all time and the best-selling piano recording ever.

King Charles III made history today, January 27, 2025, as he is the first British Head of State to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau on its 80th anniversary.
King Charles Traveled To Poland To Mark The Milestone
Charles traveled to Poland on Holocaust Memorial Day to mark the milestone with other heads of state, presidents, monarchs, prime ministers, and Holocaust survivors.
An unspoken fact is that this anniversary is likely to be the last time those who were personally affected by the Holocaust, the victims, and survivors, would meet to share their testimonies.
Royal expert Robert Jobson called the King’s trek to Poland for the somber occasion “poignant, personal, and profound.”
More than six million people were murdered in concentration camps. Eighty years ago, they were liberated by Soviet troops.
The date is globally recognized as the commemoration of all victims of the Holocaust. Charles visited the Jewish Community Center and listened to testimonies from Holocaust survivors.

Compared to previous installments, the latest chapter in the Ferry franchise, Ferry 2, which brings the journey of the titular kingpin to a fitting end, is pretty self-contained, reflective, and of smaller scale. The major reason being the Ferry movie and series highlighted the grand rise of Ferry Bouman, while the original Undercover series, and now Ferry 2 charts his miserable downfall—the beginning brought growth and new people into Ferry’s life, whereas his decline in power, losing people close to him, marked his downfall. The final arc of Ferry’s journey has him untangling family ties, and despite having a pretty limited number of core characters in the movie, the personal connections make for an intriguing storyline. Additionally, as the ending of the movie hints, there are strong chances that the franchise will move towards a new direction, and to navigate that, Ferry’s familial connection will act as a pivot.

In the wake of studio failures, it is unknown if Sony will greenlight Marvel Comics’ ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off "El Muerto! (The Aztec Zombie)”, to be directed by Jonás Cuarón, showcasing the ‘super’ wrestler ‘Luchador Juan Carlos Sanchez':
"... the powers of the super powered wrestler 'el Muerto', including endurance and rapid healing, have been passed down generation to generation. Each wrestler had to prove themselves to their oppressor, 'el Dorado', so that they could remain alive and keep their powers.
When 'Marcus Estrada' presented his son 'Juan Carlo's to 'el Dorado', Juan Carlos cowered in terror, unwilling to fight him. Marcus Estrada sacrificed his life to try and save Juan Carlos.

Right now, the only thing standing between Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and being the head of the Department of Health and Human Services is a confirmation hearing with a soon-to-be Republican-dominated Senate. But given Kennedy’s long history of making misleading and misguided statements about health, we can expect to see at least some of his outlandish claims and conspiracy theories come under scrutiny during the hearing. This is especially likely when it comes to things like accusing the Food and Drug Administration (Fda) of having “an interest” in “mass poisoning the American public,...

With the Outer Banks creators stating theyre looking to wrap up all stories in season 5, the show gets the perfect opportunity to address its biggest John B mystery. The Netflix hit has followed the Pogues on four treasure hunts and through many parental betrayals and revelations. John Bs relationship with his father made him the leading Pogue of past seasons, giving him a personal stake in the gold from the Royal Merchant and El Dorado. Notably, the Outer Banks season 4 ending benched the character, removing him from the final battle for the Blue Crown.
While the focus on JJs ancestry was well received, John Bs smaller role provoked a wave of mixed reviews for Outer Banks season 4 part 1. Though its nice that the Pogue got a chance to catch his breath, his story is far from over. The shows heavy focus on parents demands it answers the popular mystery surrounding John Bs mother,...

John B. Routledge (Chase Stokes) is the main character of Outer Banks, and he has some of the best quotes on the show. John B is a working-class teenager from the Cut in the titular Outer Banks of North Carolina, and between drinking beer and surfing, serves as the story's narrator. John B has some of the most memorable quotes in Outer Banks because his character finds the balance between youthful recklessness and mature reflection. Outer Banks' cast introduces John B when he is struggling to cope with his father's sudden disappearance.
Like JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow), John B has had brushes with death and has seen many of the darker things life has to offer. At the same time, he is often the group's optimist, encouraging each of the Pogues to know their worth and strive towards their goals.

While most people will have heard the story of Anne Frank, they may not know the other side of her incredible and sad diary, that of Miep and Jan Gies, who were responsible for hiding the Frank family, a tale depicted in National Geographic's A Small Light. Premiering on May 1, 2023, A Small Light recounts the true story of a Dutch couple in the 1930s and 1940s, Miep Gies (Bel Powley) and Jan Gies (Joe Cole), who helped the Jewish Frank family hide from the occupying Nazis from 1942 to 1944.
There have been several movies and TV shows about Anne Frank but almost none about the people who hid her. A Small Light gives an account of the lead-up to the Nazi occupation in the Netherlands, the Franks' time in hiding, and the aftermath when the Nazis uncovered their hiding place. Jackson Lee Davis/Netflix © 2024
The main focus of the premiere episode of the fourth season is catching us viewers up on what happened in the last 18 months between when the Pogues found El Dorado and then were named heroes in their town as we saw at the end of season 3. So what were they up to? Well if there's one thing you definitely can't say about John B, Sarah, Pope, Kie, JJ, and Cleo is that they're lazy. These guys definitely do not shy away from hard labor!
With them finding the gold, of course they're entitled to it.

The Pogues are back with a new adventure on Netflix with Outer Banks season 4 part 1, and you can bet that when they're not off on a dangerous treasure hunt, they're having a good time all the time. This season, with the Chateau and their beloved Poguelandia island in the past, the group creates their new oasis on The Cut, where they can plot their next move and listen to their favorite tunes.
After finding El Dorado in season 3 and seemingly making bank, the Pogues look to set themselves up for success. But some financial troubles push them back into the gold game as they accept an offer to unravel the mystery of Blackbeard's treasure. New challenges, new enemies, and new stakes keep them from simply running their bait shop and surfing every day.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Outer Banks season 3!The Pogues' latest adventure to El Dorado concludes with a giant treasure hunt and major deaths, as the Outer Banks season 3 ending wraps up huge storylines and sets up season 4. Netflix debuted season 3 in 2023 and built upon Outer Banks season 2's ending. The Pogues' attempt to return home after a botched attempt to get the Cross of Santo Domingo leads them directly into the search for the legendary city of El Dorado. It's a complicated journey that includes the reunion between John B and Big John, blossoming romances among the Pogues, and the Camerons fighting for legacy.
The season 3 ending is set primarily in South America as storylines build and everyone converges around the presumed site of El Dorado in Outer Banks. This does not come without another classic Ward Cameron betrayal, while new villain Carlos Singh dies in pursuit of the gold riches.

Back in 1980, author Philip Nicholson, writing as A. J. Quinnell, introduced the world to a man named Creasy, an American-born former French Foreign Legion soldier, in the pages of his novel Man on Fire. While Creasy would return for four more novels – The Perfect Kill (1992), The Blue Ring (1993), Black Horn (1994), and Message From Hell (1996) – it’s Man on Fire that has received the most attention over the year, being turned into a film that starred Scott Glenn in 1987 and one that starred Denzel Washington in 2004. Now, Man on Fire is serving as the basis of a Netflix TV series that’s set to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) as Creasey – and The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Alice Braga (Queen of the South), Scoot McNairy (Speak No Evil), and Paul Ben-Victor (Nobody Wants This) have signed on to play recurring roles on the show.

It’s Sunday afternoon near the Washington Monument and the clouds overhead are suitably dark and impenetrable. All your friends are here. The accidentally Russia-funded Tim Pool slips into a VIP tent while Russell Brand shows off his chest hair to his partner Jordan Peterson, the victor in many imagined battles against cultural Marxism. He is dressed as a cartoon villain in a suit that is half red and half blue. Nearby, Bashar al-Assad and Putin cheerleader Tulsi Gabbard prepares to call Kamala Harris a warmonger from the stage.

White Bird, the Marc Forster-directed film adaptation of author R. J. Palacio’s sequel/prequel to her worldwide hit book and 2017 movie Wonder, has taken a long and circuitous route to finally getting a North American release. Frustrating as it has been, this is a film that is well worth the wait and perhaps more timely now than ever.
Shot in the Czech Republic in February 2021, White Bird was initially set as a wide release in September 2022, delayed a month to October then taken off Lionsgate’s release schedule entirely before either of those dates came around. It was then scheduled for an August 2023 opening, but last year’s SAG strike meant another delay until it was finally set several months ago for its October 4 release this Friday.

From 1973-1985, two generations of Saturday morning television were raised on the exploits of DC Comics’ stellar array of heroes on ABC’s Super Friends. While the exact title changed through the years, the Hanna-Barbera series continued to display heroes and heroines as models of truth, justice, and the American Way. There are many who, having grown up on the show, revere it. Others, those of us outgrowing that weekend ritual, found it a pale comparison to the four0-cloro source material.
I admit, I had a disdain for the series, what with its limited animation and prohibition against the good guys subduing the bad guys with their fists. As a result, you must be a fan of a certain age to find the arrival of the Super Friends complete series DVD box set a welcome treat.

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week: Bright Eyes' Bells and Whistles, directed by Josh Boone. Josh Boone's works have never clicked for me. The Fault in Our Stars feels like a weird ode to romantic dramas with an illness theme like Dying Young, Turkish Delight, The Notebook and the perennial godfather of the genre, Love Story, that adds a youthful glow to the notion of dying young. It feels like a bad taste film that is offensive to people with cancer ánd victims of World War II. The scene in which the American teens make the suffering of Anne Frank somehow all about them speaks to how utterly misguided the film is....

The Man on Fire Netflix reboot series is starting to round out its cast, which now includes Bobby Cannavale coming in to guest star. It means no less than two MCU actors will be featured, as Cannavale appeared in the Ant-Man films while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is starring in the upcoming Wonder Man series.
Per Variety, Cannavale will join Yahya Abdul-Mateen II for Netflix's Man on Fire, a series based on A.J. Quinnell's novel of the same name, which has already received two feature film adaptations. Steven Spielberg's rare late-night interview with Stephen Colbert was a treat for fans, showcasing his warmth and kindness. Spielberg addressed the rise of Antisemitism, expressing disappointment and hope for change in the world. The iconic director only rewatched one of his own movies, the timeless classic "Et," to share the experience with his kids.
During his run on late night, Stephen Colbert has brought in important guests, including former Presidents of the United States. However, this particular interview was especially noteworthy given that the iconic director hadn't appeared on late night programming until 2022 with Colbert. Not even an interview with David Letterman during his prime.
The man in question is Steven Spielberg and the interview did not disappoint. The extended chat took place on Spielberg's turf, and gave fans a closer look at the filmmaker. Let's recap the rare interview from 2022, and how the fans reacted to it all.

The Machinist director Brad Anderson’s sci-fi monster movie World-Breaker has just finished filming, and stars Luke Evans and Milla Jovovich.
Everything was so topsy-turvy during those 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes that when World-Breaker was announced last October, the production had a cast in place but wasn’t allowed to reveal who was starring. There has been no shortage of television series centering the horrors of the Holocaust. Last year alone, Netflix’s “Transatlantic” depicted a group of resistors living in Marseille, and National Geographic’s “A Small Light” offered a retelling of Anne Frank’s experience through the eyes of Miep Gies, the woman who aided the Franks during their years in hiding. Though both of these series and those like them are important, Hulu’s “We Were the Lucky Ones,” an adaptation of Georgia Hunter’s best-selling novel based on a true story, showcases something different. The show chronicles a family torn apart by war and hatred. Devastating, and profoundly moving, “We Were the Lucky Ones” illustrates the scope of World War II, the inhumanity of others and the anguish of disconnection and loss.

Milla Jovovich returns to the genre she knows so well with World Breaker. She stars opposite Luke Evans from Fast & Furious 6 and Dracula Untold. Brad Anderson is in the director’s chair for this science-fiction film. Anderson is known for such bleak projects as Session 9, The Machinist (which famously had Christian Bale lose a scary amount of weight prior to playing Batman) and Transsiberian. He has been dabbling in TV over the recent years, having directing for shows like Titans, The Man in the High Castle and Peacemaker.
