At times, Power Rangerscan get serious and aim to tell ambitious, dramatic stories. However, even in famously dark seasons like Power Rangers Rpm, humor is a prominent feature. Whether it's because of the tone of a season, its jokes, its cast, or the bizarre situations the heroes find themselves in, Power Rangers never fails to be funny.
Power Rangers is always a goofy series, but seasons like Turbo and Ninja Storm make comedy a priority. For better or worse, these seasons care far more about making viewers laugh than about investing audiences in a gripping narrative. Of course, there are also seasons that are perfectly balanced, and thrive as dramas and comedies simultaneously.

Big news has emerged for fans of the Power Rangers franchise. A reboot is reportedly in the works at Disney+, and the creative team that's set to become a part of the project may be exciting for fans.
Per TheWrap, a live-action Power Rangers reboot series is in development at Disney+. Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are reportedly in talks to write and serve as showrunners for the reboot; they will also executive produce if the deals go through. Movies are generally related to bigger or smaller studios, which finance certain projects and take care of their release. There are, of course, completely self-funded projects, and there are also projects that make their way to audiences thanks to Kickstarter campaigns. One of them is Legend of the White Dragon.
Legend of the White Dragon is an upcoming action film whose production timeline has been very complex. But, as per the latest updates, the movie is complete and is nearing its release, which is certainly going to make a lot of people happy.

By its very nature, Power Rangersis a goofy and bizarre series. This especially applies to early seasons, like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, where integration of Super Sentai footage was still rough, and the tone was more in line with Saved by the Bell than anything else. While the show evolved over time, there isn't a season without some head-scratching details.
The Disney Era of Power Rangers was ambitious and well-produced, but it was also as weird as any other era of the franchise. Within the show itself, there are still odd choices made regularly, and the series' infamously low budget often winds up haunting it. Other aspects of the Disney seasons won't be noticed just by watching them, and require outside knowledge to understand what makes them so strange.

Throughout the early seasons of Power Rangers, there were several characters that took on many Ranger forms. The 25th-anniversary special of the series, titled "Dimensions in Danger" (which took place during the second season of Power Rangers Ninja Steel), introduced a way for these Rangers to utilize all of their Ranger forms.
The Master Morpher was introduced as an upgraded form of the original morphers from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, with Tommy Oliver being the only character in the special to use it. Throughout the episode, with the use of the Master Morpher, Tommy was able to morph into any of his past Ranger forms, even those forms whose powers were destroyed. Given the immense power and versatility a Master Morpher provides, there are several other Power Rangers characters who would greatly benefit from a Master Morpher.

Tommy Oliver is the Power Rangers character with the most forms in the TV show, having used four different colors and five different sets of powers. Introduced as the evil Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Tommy was freed from Rita Repulsa’s mind control spell and joined the heroes. Despite the massive popularity of the Green Ranger, “Green With Evil” was only the beginning of an impressive story that would continue for decades. As a result, Tommy was always getting upgrades and new costumes.
One of the reasons why Tommy was part of so many different Power Rangers teams is that, for most of the 1990s, the show tried to keep as many original cast members as possible. Tommy, Kat, and Adam were all in Mighty Morphin, Zeo, and Turbo, meaning they all got multiple forms in a short period. That said, Tommy was special in a lot of ways,...

Due to the series' formulaic nature, most Power Rangers episodes don't contain especially cathartic moments. Nice as it can be to see a character learn a lesson or use a new weapon or Zord to defeat a monster; these things are expected. Where the series shines is when it takes its time to build up to something big or when it catches its audience by complete surprise.
Power Rangers is frequently capable of making fans leap out of their seats with joy. Throughout the entire series, there have been moments that feel especially satisfying because of how big their impact is on either a narrative or meta-textual level. These moments include outstandingly executed victories over villains, meaningful changes in the relationships between characters, and the re-introduction of familiar faces to the show.

Austin St. John, Walter Emanuel Jones, and Thuy Trang left Power Rangers midway through season 2, and the franchise would have been drastically different had the original Red, Black, and Yellow Rangers remained on the team. With three cast members set to exit the series after not getting their contracts renewed, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers essentially had two options. Either Jason, Zack, and Trini were going to be recast, or the show would have to introduce three new characters. Power Rangers went with the latter and introduced Rocky (Steve Cardenas), Aisha (Karan Ashley), and Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch).
The Power Rangers franchise would never be the same again after the exits of the original Red, Yellow, and Black Rangers for several reasons. Firstly, the arrival of three new characters set a precedent for “replacement Rangers,” a tradition that would be carried over through the rest of the show. Power Rangers would...

Tommy Oliver went from a “punch first, ask questions later” Ranger in Mighty Morphin to a wise, resourceful mentor who even had his own secret Batcave in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. Set seven years after Tommy and the rest of the Mmpr/Zeo Rangers left the team midway through Turbo, Dino Thunder was not as self-contained as the other Disney seasons. While the 2004 show was a standalone story, it also worked as a legacy sequel to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers thanks to the return of Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver.
Although Frank had appeared in 2002’s Wild Force as one of the veteran Red Rangers from the Forever Red crossover, Tommy had not been a recurrent character in the series since 1997. With Power Rangers moving production to New Zealand and Disney moving toward standalone seasons, it seemed like there was no room for a character like Tommy to return in a large capacity.

The cast features the late Jason David Frank as Tommy (the White Ranger), Amy Jo Johnson as Kimberly (the Pink Ranger), David Yost as Billy (the Blue Ranger), Walter Jones as Zack (the Black Ranger), the late Thuy Trang as Trini (the Yellow Ranger), and Austin St. John as Jason (the Red Ranger).

Lord Drakkon is arguably the most popular of the Power Rangers characters who never appeared in the TV show, and the closest thing to a live-action version of the multiversal conqueror that we got is more than enough proof that the series needs a modern reboot. Power Rangers is currently on hiatus as there has been no new season or announcement of a new show in 2024. Earlier this year, TV Line reported that the Power Rangers reboot at Netflix was no longer moving forward. Its now unclear where the franchise is heading next.
Cosmic Fury, the most recent entry in the Power Rangers chronology, strangely worked as a conclusion for the shows 30-year-old legacy. Between Lord Zedd being defeated once and for all and Blue Ranger Billy learning that Zordon was not gone forever, Cosmic Furys ending was a good way of saying goodbye to this version of the series...

There is a secret lore to Tommy Oliver's White Ranger promotion that not every Power Rangers fan is aware of. Boom! Studios' Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic book series offers a slight tweak to some story elements in connection to the TV show's canon. In other instances, though, the comics weave perfectly into the narrative of the show that recontextualizes the original lore and its characters.
The comics' most notable recontextualization comes between Go Go Power Rangers #25 and #27. These issues reinvent how Tommy Oliver gets his White Ranger powers, but in a way that theoretically fits within the narrative of the television series. Although much of the comics play out like a modern update of the original canon using modern technology, this is a rare instance where the panels work as a perfect in-between entry showing what took place for Tommy between the "White Light" two-parter.
Whatever details that...

Amy Jo Johnson reprised her role as Kimberly in Power Rangers two years after the original Pink Ranger departed from the team, yet the circumstances of her return were not what I was expecting. Kimberly Hart was one of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and appeared in all three seasons of the original show. However, Kimberly did not remain on the team until the very end of Mmpr 3, as Amy Jo Johnson left the show after the A Different Shade of Pink arc. Kimberly was replaced by Katherine Lillard, played by Catherine Sutherland.
Unlike the exits of Jason, Zack, and Trini from the team, Kimberlys departure was very well handled. Not only did we get to meet Kat a couple of episodes before she became the new Pink Ranger, but Kimberly also got to pass the torch herself to her successor. Kat would go on to build a legacy...

The 2000s were a very special period for Power Rangers and included a few of the shows most iconic crossover episodes. While it is difficult to compete with Forever Red as the best Power Rangers crossover episode, the Red Ranger team-up was released in 2002 and celebrated the shows first decade of stories. Power Rangers would still see a lot of great moments in the 2000s, with the Disney Era officially starting with Ninja Storm in 2003 and ending in 2009 with R.P.M.

Power Rangers (2017) was a great reboot of Mighty Morphin with missed potential for a sequel. The film set up the Green Ranger story for a sequel that never happened. Power Rangers (2017) had the potential for a cinematic universe but failed to kick-start a franchise despite its quality.
It has been seven years since Power Rangers (2017) hit theaters, and I still cannot believe we are not getting a sequel. From a financial standpoint, it is not surprising that Power Rangers 2 never happened. The 2017 reboot grossed only $143 million on a $120 million budget (via The Numbers), making a sequel very unlikely. Still, considering how well the film was received among long-time Power Rangers fans and new audiences, Power Rangers 2 could have worked. Having watched all Power Rangers movies and TV shows countless times, the 2017 film is among my favorite entries in the franchise.

Tommy Oliver, the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, was the first Sixth Ranger in the Power Rangers franchise and the most iconic one. The Green Ranger's weapons, such as the Dragon Dagger and Dragonzord, set him apart from the other Rangers. Tommy's character arc, going from brainwashed villain to ultimate hero, along with his long tenure in the franchise, solidified his status as a fan-favorite icon.
Since it premiered in 1993, Power Rangers has introduced dozens of different heroes. However, even more than 30 years later, none of them is as iconic as Tommy Oliver. Portrayed by the late Jason David Frank, Tommy first appeared in the 17th episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, "Green with Evil, Part I: Out of Control." This episode was the first of the "Green with Evil" arc, which introduced Tommy as Rita's latest minion.
"Green with Evil" saw the Ranger fight Tommy and then help him get over his evil brainwashing.

Seldom have audiences been treated to a “requel” as exceptional as X-Men ‘97. Critics and fans alike have had nothing but praise for the show, and how it has taken a Saturday morning staple and elevated almost every aspect of production, storytelling, and acting.

Ivan Ooze only appeared in the 1995 movie, not in the TV show or comics. Ivan Ooze's design and humor perfectly suited the Power Rangers universe. Power Rangers: The Movie remains a standalone classic, non-canon but nostalgic.
One of the most iconic Power Rangers villains of all time never actually appeared on the TV show and has only one appearance in the franchise. More than 30 years after the premiere of Mighty Morphin, the Power Rangers universe has seen countless villains between major antagonists and monsters-of-the-week. Most of them originated from Super Sentai shows, but characters like Lord Zedd or Astronema were created for Power Rangers. Even though Power Rangers continues to release new series and comic book runs, the nostalgia over the original show has shaped the franchise for years.

Tanner Buchanan is a popular Green Ranger fancast inspired by his role in Cobra Kai. Buchanan's martial arts background would suit Tommy Oliver perfectly. Recasting Tommy for a potential Power Rangers reboot would be difficult due to his iconic status.

Once & Always rectified Rocky's underappreciated role as the Red Ranger in Mmpr history. The special reunited original cast members from all seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Tommy was only the Green Ranger for 56 episodes, less than his White Ranger run. Despite limited screen time compared to the White Ranger or Tommy's run as Red Ranger in Zeo/Turbo, the Green Ranger remains Tommy's most iconic color in pop culture. Tommy's significance as the Green Ranger was further emphasized in later Power Rangers series and crossovers.
There is one sad truth about Tommy Oliver’s Green Ranger form that proves how iconic Power Rangers’ first evil Ranger was and continues to be. The concept of an evil Ranger comes from the Super Sentai shows Power Rangers is based on and has become an essential trope in the franchise. Part of that trope is to see the former evil Ranger being redeemed and joining the team, which happened to Tommy at the end of the “Green With Evil” arc. Shortly after joining the Power Rangers, Tommy would be promoted to team leader.

Power Rangers: The Return tells a story using adult versions of the original Rangers, with personalities that are reflective of the actors who portrayed them. The unique miniseries diverges from established Ranger canon, offering a new storyline which features the original team reuniting after being driven apart years before. The story pays tribute to late actors from the original series, Jason David Frank and Thuy Trang, allowing fans a small measure of closure, and paying homage to those who aren't able to be part of it.
The latest take on the first incarnation of the Power Rangers from the 1990s will feature adult versions of the characters, with their adult personalities modeled on the actors who portrayed them in the hit series. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Power Rangers: The Return writer and original Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson revealed that her take on the characters draws heavily from her former castmates.

Only a few Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episodes or arcs are essential to the main storyline, such as "Green With Evil". "Day of the Dumpster" is where it all begins. The original Power Rangers series featured a lot of multi-episode story arcs.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the original Power Rangers show, has hundreds of episodes, but only a few of them are essential to the main storyline and cannot be deemed as filler. Given the episodic nature of the show, it is safe to say Mmpr has more “filler” than it has plot-heavy episodes. The same applies to most seasons in Power Rangers’ chronological order, although later entries had more overarching storylines compared to Mighty Morphin.
Almost every Mmpr episode follows the same formula, which would then be applied in all other seasons. Naturally, much of it is inspired by the Super Sentai shows, which also had a very defined rhythm to them.

For more than thirty years, the Power Rangers franchise has provided a seemingly endless supply of color-coded heroes across dozens of uniquely themed teams. Along the way, nearly every single one of these teams has found themselves picking up exciting recruits along the way, with the infinitely iconic Tommy Oliver, portrayed by the late Jason David Frank, marking the first in a long line of Sixth Rangers.
Surprisingly, not all of these Sixth Rangers have truly been Rangers themselves, nor has every eventual ally been defined as a Sixth Ranger. While that doesn't necessarily mean they haven't wielded remarkably similar if not nearly identical powers to the more traditional Power Rangers around them, it does mean that they stand on their own in ways the rest of their teams never could.

Tommy Oliver's debut as the evil Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers made him one of the franchise's best characters. The Green Ranger color itself is not what made Tommy iconic, but rather his introduction as an evil Ranger and his transformation into a hero. Other Green Rangers in the franchise were usually founding members of their teams. Only one Green Ranger after Tommy, Ninja Storm's Cam Watanabe, was also a sixth Ranger.

Power Rangers always wearing their respective colors, even in civilian clothes, is a visual identity trick that makes the character easily recognizable. There is no in-universe reason for the Rangers to always wear their signature colors outside of their Ranger work. Power Rangers has made meta jokes about the trope in the show, acknowledging the inconsistency but not providing a canon answer.
One of the oldest and most confusing Power Rangers tropes is why the Rangers are always wearing their respective colors, even when in their civilian clothes. Although some Power Rangers characters are public heroes, such as the Lightspeed Rescue Rangers or the S.P.D. ones, most Rangers have a secret identity. Therefore, in theory, they should avoid associating themselves with their Ranger colors and not the other way around.
Between story beats inherited from the Super Sentai shows and narrative approaches the American franchise took, Power Rangers has countless gimmicks.

As superheroes, the Power Rangers are much more powerful than the average person. They are constantly fighting against monsters and aliens and can also control giant robots that combine to become even bigger mechanized fighters. Every Ranger has a mastery of hand-to-hand combat and uses a wide variety of weapons and tools to take down their opponents. Even the least effective among them can take down a half-dozen putty patrol monsters by themselves before needing to call for backup.
