The nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 have been announced, and it’s certainly an interesting and downright random mix, with eight of the shortlisted artists — arena-rockers Bad Company, Southern rock revivalists the Black Crowes, rock ‘n’ roll dance-craze king Chubby Checker, late blues-rock belter Joe Cocker, punk/new wave superstar Billy Idol, Latin pop/rock band Maná, Dirty South hip-hop pioneers OutKast, and jam band Phish — being first-time nominees.

Perhaps the most surprising inclusion among those first-timers is Checker — not only because he never was inducted before alongside his ’50s and ’60s peers, but because the Hall has noticeably moved on from those decades in recent years. Maná’s nomination is also a curveball, even though the Mexican group is one of the most successful and accoladed acts in Latin music history, given the Hall’s tendency to overlook “foreign” artists who don’t primarily sing in English.

The inductees will be announced in late April along with the names of the acts receiving the Musical Influence Award, the Musical Excellence Award, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. The annual ceremony will take place in Los Angeles in the fall.

New Order have announced a “definitive” box set of their 1986 album, Brotherhood, out November 22nd via Warner Music. What’s more, they’re separately reissuing the 12-inch singles for “Bizarre Love Triangle,” “State of the Nation,” and “Touched by the Hand of God.”

The Brotherhood collection features nine unreleased songs and demos from a 1985 recording session in Japan alongside remixes and their contributions to the soundtrack of Beth B’s film Salvation. Among these tracks are the full-length version of “Every Little Counts” and instrumental versions of “All Day Long” and “Broken Promise.”

Also included are DVDs containing live performances at Brixton Academy, G-Mex Manchester, and Glastonbury, as well as TV shows from the UK and Europe — all of which are coming to DVD for the first time. Pre-orders for Brotherhood Definitive Edition and the 12-inch reissues are ongoing.

SXSW has unveiled William Shatner, Jen Psaki and Tilda Swinton as among the latest additions to the speaker lineup for the upcoming conference and festival in Austin, Texas. The 37th annual edition of SXSW will celebrate the convergence of film, television, music and technology from March 10-19.

Other notables joining the lineup include Chef José Andrés, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Chelsea Manning and New Order band members Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert.

Hugh Forrest, SXSW’s chief programming officer and co-president said, “Today’s speaker announcement is a fantastic milestone for the 2023 event and spotlights four additional Keynotes and numerous Featured Speakers, including influential icons and up and coming innovators.” Forrest added, “We are extremely proud to have assembled a diverse, comprehensive conference program for SXSW, and we can’t wait to share it with our community in March.”

Event organizers announced Tuesday the next round of keynote speakers, featured speakers and keynote sessions confirmed for SXSW, which celebrates the convergence of technology, film, television, and music.

Members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-nominated rock band New Order, Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, and Gillian Gilbert, as well as Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and producer Margo Price join Chopra Jonas and Swinton as keynotes. Additional featured speakers will include Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Chelsea Handler, William Shatner, Chelsea Manning and more.
