The Direct spoke with School Spirits executive producers Oliver Goldstick, Megan Trinrud, and Nate Trinrud where they discussed the eventful Season 2 finale—and addressed Wally's fate.
There was a lot to digest from the big finale, including Simon getting stuck in the afterlife, Maddie making it back to the living, and Janet sticking around despite the choice of moving on (a decision Jess Garbor explained to The Direct).
But it was Wally who got thrown a curve ball when his golden door opened up in his scar, giving him the possibility of moving on as well. But the episode left it up in the air as to whether or not he went through it or not.

Two weeks after the conclusion of School Spirits Season 2, we now know the fate of Paramount+'s hugely popular supernatural teen drama, and the news will have fans shouting "Go Bandits!" Per ComingSoon, after an overwhelmingly successful sophomore season, the series has officially been renewed for Season 3, which comes as a surprise to no one given how much traction the show gained with its second outing.
School Spirits' renewal was pretty much a given when you consider that Season 2 averaged 3.9 million viewers in its first 28 days, which was a massive 94% increase compared to Season 1. The latest season garnered a ton of social media traffic as new viewers were brought it thanks to the first season being added to Netflix, and for Shauna Phelan, Head of Live Action Scripted Series and Film for Awesomeness and Nickelodeon, she already can't wait to continue the mystery on Season 3:

It’s been a difficult few years for fans of teen-focused TV, particularly on streaming platforms.
Many shows have been unceremoniously canceled as media conglomerates have curbed their spending after a neverending array of shows got pickups.
School Spirits arrived in 2023 and immediately struck a chord with me — and many other viewers — due to its compelling hook.

Ghost stories have been prevalent on the small screen for many years, but Paramount+ hit the big time with the show for its portrayal of a purgatory-like setting for a group of students who died at Split River High School.
Maddie Nears is one of the best characters on TV, thanks to stellar writing and terrific acting from Peyton List.

Paramount+ won’t leave School Spirits fans hanging. Season two ended with Maddie back among her living friends. But unfortunately for Simon, he somehow got stuck in Mr. Martin’s scar with the deceased chemistry teacher and Janet.
Season three will also confirm if Wally stepped through his exit door. It’s the right choice to bring back the strange group of ghosts and living best friends because there is still so much to tell.

School Spirits is becoming quite buzzy on Paramount+.
The first three episodes of Season 2, which launched on January 30, amassed 1.7M viewers in the first seven days of availability, according to internal data from Paramount Global.
That marks a 104% increase over the seven-day audience for the first three episodes of Season 1, the company says.
Third party data about the series’ performance is hard to come by, since it hasn’t appeared in Nielsen’s streaming Top 10. However, a triple-digit audience increase in the first week is a pretty significant boost.
Paramount also points to owned, domestic social post performance as an indicator of the show’s growing audience, as any posts regarding School Spirits published in the first seven days after the Season 2 debut have seen eight times the total engagement of Season 1 posts in that time frame.

In School Spirits season 1, the mystery surrounding Maddie's murder is not fully resolved, leaving room for further exploration in season 2, says actor Milo Manheim. The cliffhanger ending reveals that Maddie's body is possessed by Janet. This will likely lead to more potential conflict and questions ahead of season 2.
A new School Spirits season 2 update hints at where the show could be going after that cliffhanger ending. School Spirits, a supernatural teen drama, is now trending on Netflix after originally premiering on Paramount+. The show is a compelling "whodunit" story about a high school student stuck in purgatory investigating her own mysterious death. The inspiration behind School Spirits came from TV shows like Dawson's Creek and Veronica Mars, and it started as a plan for a TV show before becoming a graphic novel.
The supernatural teen drama School Spirits is trending once again, which may inspire audiences to wonder where the unique TV series got its inspiration from. Although it was originally exclusive to Paramount+, the popular TV show is now getting the chance to shine on Netflix - and it's already capitalizing off of its opportunity of a second streaming home following its November 30 debut. As of this writing, School Spirits occupies the No. 4 spot among the streaming platform's top 10 TV shows in the U.S.

Peyton List will take another ethereal plunge into the hallways of Split River High. Paramount+ has renewed the supernatural series School Spirits for a second season. Peyton List will be reprising her role as Maddie, the spirited (pun intended) protagonist as per Collider.
The renewal comes as the streaming service looks to keep its grip on the Young Adult (YA) audience – and who better to pull in the masses than the phantoms of high school students with unfinished business?
In School Spirits, we're introduced to Maddie, a teenager who finds herself haunting her school postmortem. However, the afterlife is not as lonely as one might assume. Maddie discovers that she is not the only ghost roaming the corridors of Split River High. A handful of her peers, who have also met untimely ends, share her spectral existence.
But what sets Maddie apart is her unique ability to communicate with the living.

School Spirits is coming to Paramount+ on Thursday, March 9.
It follows the story of Maddie, a high school student who goes missing from the school.
Maddie may be missing, but her spirit remains, and she discovers there's a thriving afterlife associated with the school of all of those who died within it.
The series has a wonderful, talented cast and is bursting with emotion. The underlying mystery of what happened to Maddie provides a solid throughline for getting to know more about the school and its permanent (?) inhabitants.
We participated in press day to get a little insight into the show, but it's more of a tease. After all, we don't want to take away the joy of discovering the School Spirits' mysteries on your own!
Up first is a discussion with co-creators, executive producers, and siblings Nate Trinrud and Megan Trinrud, as well as showrunner and executive producer Oliver Goldstick.
