  • Was good friends with Steve McQueen. They appeared together in three films: Bullitt (1968), Papillon (1973), and The Towering Inferno (1974). He also made guest appearances with McQueen on the show Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958).
  • Granite-jawed, angular-faced American character actor of films and television who specialized in desperate men on both sides of the law. Found a perfect niche in science-fiction, given particularly meaty roles in the original The Twilight Zone (1959), The Outer Limits (1963) and The Invaders (1967).
  • He was of Italian descent.
  • Son-in-law of Felicia Farr and Lee Farr. Stepson-in-law of Jack Lemmon (who was only one year older than Gordon.
  • Played both Detective Delgetti in the 1968 crime thriller Bullitt and crazed criminal Anthony Delgetti 17 years later in the TV series Remington Steele.
  • Buried at Westwood Memorial Park. Westwood, Los Angeles County, California.
  • Was seriously considered for the part of Sonny Corleone in The Godfather.
