Three years after teaming up for “Disorders,” Ani Difranco and Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard are back with “The Message.”

The track features the same lineup as the duo’s 2022 collaboration: Difranco on vocals, Gossard on guitar, keyboardist Josh Evans, saxophonist Skerik, and percussionist Stanton Moore. It’s a groovy affair, with Difranco leading the way. “I feel your pain,” she repeats again and again. “Trust me.”

Beyoncé absolutely dominated the list of 67th Annual Grammy Awards nominees, earning 11 nominations including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Country Album. Charli xcx, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Post Malone each scored seven nominations, with Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter picking up six.

“Today we celebrate the amazing creative achievements of our music community,” stated Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. “It was an incredible year in music and these nominations reflect the work of a voting body that is more representative of the music community than ever before. Rock band Pearl Jam kicked off their 2024 tour, named after the new album Dark Matter, in May and has continued along schedule through the North American leg of the tour.

The tour kicked off in May with a special two-night event in Vancouver and reaches various locations across North America and Europe through September before the band heads to New Zealand and Australia. The tour will conclude in November in Sydney.

The band released the title track from Dark Matter at midnight on February 13, 2024, which marked their first new music since 2020; the complete album was launched on April 19.

Prior to carving out his own legendary career as drummer of both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, a teenage Matt Cameron played in a Kiss cover band. Unfortunately, paying musical tribute to his rock heroes led to a cease-and-desist letter from the iconic band itself.

Cameron and the rest of Pearl Jam were recent guests on The Howard Stern Show, promoting their new album, Dark Matter. During the visit, the drummer shared his Kiss story, which also involved meeting Paul Stanley.

“I was in a neighborhood Kiss cover band when I was 13/14, something like that,” began Cameron. “We played local high schools, keggers, what not. And my dad was friends with the head of the stagehand union in San Diego, so when Kiss was playing there … during the ‘Alive’ tour, that was ’75, we got to go see Kiss do a soundcheck at the San Diego Sports Arena.

Ani Difranco is set to release her 23rd album, Unprecedented Sh!t, on May 17 via her label, Righteous Babe Records.

According to a press release, the title signifies a departure in sound by the singer-songwriter and serves as a “poignant political and social commentary on the contemporary global landscape.” The upcoming project is produced by Bj Burton (Bon Iver) and will encompass 11 tracks, including singles “The Thing at Hand” and “New Bible,” which is billed as a “different way of living outside of consumerism.”

UK power trio Tigercub are premiering a new Stone Gossard remix of their song “Show Me My Maker” exclusively via Consequence (listen below).

Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder gifted a heartwarming holiday surprise to a few young musicians in Kailua, Oahu.

According to a recent Facebook post from Coconut Grove Music teacher Harry Koizumi, Vedder stopped into the store seeking a long-term teacher’s expertise — to which Koizumi happily obliged. “He asked if I could help him choose some electric guitars that would be good for younger players,” Koizumi wrote. “He then purchased 3 guitars and asked if I had 3 younger students that might need them and to help them be inspired!”

Koizumi called the three mothers of the students he’d selected to receive the guitars, and was pleasantly surprised to hear that all three of the mothers were already fans of Vedder. He asked them to play Vedder’s music around the house to prime the students for the surprise.

After receiving the surprise guitars, Koizumi asked his students to write thank-you notes to Vedder.

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready has revealed he is drawing on his experiences in the Seattle grunge scene for a new rock opera. In an interview with Guitar World, the musician said the project is inspired by and honors the late Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, who was also McCready’s bandmate in the supergroup Temple of the Dog.

“I look at him as one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time, aside from being a friend,” McCready said about Cornell. “I love Chris and I’m working on a little project about the Seattle scene and a musical kind of rock opera thing. It’s just from my experience in the Seattle music scene, and he’s part of it.”

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament has offered his own update on the next Pearl Jam album. During an appearance on Kyle Meredith With…, Ament said that while the band feels they’ve “earned the right to do whatever the fuck we want,” their latest effort isn’t quite done and “doesn’t feel like a record yet.”

The comments come just two weeks after Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard shared with Meredith that he felt the new album was “close to the finish line,” an assessment with which Ament gently disagrees. “The hardest part of [finishing] a record a lot of times is figuring out which songs go on the record and do we need to record another song and what’s the artwork and what’s the title and all that stuff,” Ament says, noting the band is planning on taking the rest of summer off with those questions left unanswered.

Seattle’s Brad have released a new song and music video for “Hey Now What’s the Problem?” off their upcoming LP, In the Moment That You’re Born. The album will drop July 28th via Loosegroove Records.

The new tune features a straight-ahead rock ‘n’ roll vibe, with distorted guitars from Stone Gossard (also of Pearl Jam fame), driving bass and drums from Keith Lowe and Regan Hagar, respectively, and fiery vocals from late singer Shawn Smith.

The song’s music video, directed by Hagar, features live footage from classic Brad performances with pop-culture imagery from movies, TV shows, and horror films.

“Hey Now What’s the Problem?” follows the album’s debut single, “In The Moment That You’re Born,” which was released earlier this year. That song was unveiled on the 30-year anniversary of Brad’s debut album, Shame, which arrived on April 27th, 1993 via Epic Records.

Brad, the Seattle rock band featuring Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard, have announced their first new album in 11 years. The LP, titled In the Moment That You’re Born, arrives on July 28th and includes the just-released title track as its first single.

In the Moment That You’re Born is Brad’s sixth album, following 2012’s United We Stand. The title track marks the band’s first new music since the 2017 stand-alone singles “Hey Now What’s the Problem” and “Pieces of Sky in My Hand.”

The single and other album tracks feature the vocals of late Brad singer Shawn Smith, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 53. Smith had laid down the vocals during recording sessions prior to his passing.

Drummer Regan Hagar commented, “I’m moved by Shawn Smith once again. And Stone’s guitar work on this track kills me every time I listen.”

Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s Film 45 will document the late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman.

"Cry, if you want to cry," Chris Cornell sang on the song "My Wave." Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s production company Film 45 will help you see and clear your eyes in a documentary about the late frontman and songwriter for Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog, according to Variety. Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, will participate as a producer. Paramount recently yanked Pitt's World War Z 2, which he hoped to make with Fight Club director David Fincher, from its production schedule. Berg will direct the as-yet-untitled movie. No other details of the Chris Cornell documentary have been announced.

Cornell died on May 18, 2017, a few hours after a Soundgarden show at Detroit's Fox Theater. His death was ruled a suicide. An autopsy revealed painkillers and anti-anxiety medication in Cornell's bloodstream.

A new documentary film centered on the life of Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell is in the works, Variety has learned.

The film will be produced by Cornell’s widow, Vicky, along with Brad Pitt and Peter Berg’s Film 45 production company, which focuses on non-scripted entertainment and branded content. Berg will direct.

Cornell was the lead singer of Soundgarden from the band’s incarnation in 1984 until they broke up in 1997. He went on to front Audioslave with members of Rage Against the Machine before Soundgarden reunited in 2011. The band was in the middle of touring when, on May 18, 2017, Cornell died after a show in Detroit. His death was ruled a suicide.

In January, Vicky Cornell and a number of the grunge icon’s fellow musicians, including Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, threw a benefit concert, “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” at the Forum in Los Angeles.

When Green River hit their groove, they played a vicious mix of snarling punk and gigantic hard-rock riffs. It was a heavy, menacing sound, and in the mid-Eighties, nobody really knew what to call it. “I think we just considered ourselves rock & roll guys who grew up on punk rock,” drummer Alex Shumway says now. “We realized that there was some music that we liked before we became hardcore kids that we were afraid we listened to, but then we admitted we liked it. And we started making music like that.

It’s been six years since Pearl Jam released Lightning Bolt, and they’re feeling the need to write new music again. It’s just been slow going. “It’d be fun to record or even just write a song together,” bassist Jeff Ament says. “I think when Chris [Cornell] passed, that’s really been a tough one to wrap our heads around, and then there’s just life stuff.”

ClimeCo is pleased to announce that Pearl Jam will voluntarily mitigate an estimated 3,500 tons of carbon dioxide produced by their 2018 European and Us tour dates through an Alaska-based forest preservation project.
