The beloved series starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel found newfound success with a whole new generation of fans after it became available for streaming on Netflix several years ago.

While making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night (March 19), Lauren, 58, revealed that she doesn’t get paid any residuals from Netflix for Gilmore Girls.

In 2023, Tubi made its Super Bowl debut with a viral ad that had viewers questioning whether their feed went down in the middle of a face-off between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

“The goal on that night was just to make people aware of what Tubi was. We had very low awareness,” chief marketing officer Nicole Parlapiano told TheWrap. “I just wanted people to know our name, and I wanted to stand out.”

Two years later, the Chiefs and Eagles are facing off yet again — but Tubi is in a very different place, simulcasting the big game in 4K for the first time as part of a Fox Sports takeover on Feb. 9.

The free, ad-supported streaming platform, which was acquired by Fox Corp. for $440 million in 2020, has grown to 97 million monthly active users — who streamed 10 billion hours of programming in 2024 — and is on track to cross the $1 billion revenue mark this fiscal year.

“The Z-Suite” isn’t the first time Lauren Graham has helped a new network launch one of its flagship shows.

“When we did ‘Gilmore Girls,’ The WB was pretty new, so I thought it was cool to be part of a new platform,” Graham told TheWrap. The mother-daughter comedy-drama was the 16th original series to premiere on The WB and later became one of its most popular shows.

“Back then, I don’t think I understood pressure in the same way,” Graham said. “I got to an upfront where they told us we were up against ‘Friends.’ I was like, ‘Oh, that’s the literal opposite of pressure because no one expects us to do anything numbers wise.'”

Graham's latest roles include the 2024 Christmas film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, 2025's Twinless, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with stunning reviews, and the upcoming series The Z-Suite. The latter is set to premiere on Tubi on Feb. 6 as a Tubi Original. The series follows Graham as Monica Marks, an advertising maven, alongside Nico Santos (Superstore) as her executive, Doug Garcia. The actress, who played Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls, opposite Alexis Bledel, for seven seasons, was recently asked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon if she would return for a potential reboot.

The WB/CW dramedy, which ran from 2000 to 2007, centered around the relationship between thirtysomething single mother Lorelai and her teen daughter Rory (Bledel) living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Roman (Dylan O’Brien) stands grieving beside his mother (Lauren Graham) as the casket containing his gay identical twin brother, Rocky, is lowered into the ground. It’s a somber affair––tears, tissues, a violinist’s rendition of “Danny Boy”––until the song pauses abruptly on a false note, engendering awkward silence. It’s the first permission you have to laugh, then to recognize the faint absurdity of a gathering in which mourners approach Roman and bawl at his uncanny likeness to the deceased.

Twinless won the festival's Audience Award on Friday, Jan. 31, and ahead of the win, there were several leaks from the streaming site, including sex scenes and other moments from the film.

Gilmore Girls has remained such a beloved fan favorite over the years, seeing a ton of streaming success from viewers over the past few years.

Fans got extra lucky when the show was briefly rebooted on Netflix for a four episode “Year in the Life” revival series that saw most of the original cast returning.

“Twinless,” a comedic drama starring Dylan O’Brien, has been pulled from Sundance’s streaming site after sex scenes and other content from the film leaked online. The leaks came as “Twinless” won the festival’s coveted Audience Award on Friday.

It’s the second movie to be pulled from Sundance’s site this year. “Selena y Los Dinos,” a documentary about Tejano singer Selena, was also scrubbed from the service after the film “suffered a series of copyright infringements,” meaning it also leaked online. There were reports that fans were putting various musical numbers from “Selena y Los Dinos” on TikTok and Instagram.
