Hacksaw Ridge is a 2016 biographical war movie about Desmond T. Doss - a veteran of WW2 and a conscientious objector who serves as the combat medic for the 77th Infantry Division. Ridiculed for his faith and consigned as the company coward, Doss goes above and beyond when his division becomes trapped on Hacksaw Ridge with only him left to keep the injured men alive.
The movie, directed by Mel Gibson and written by Robert Schenkkan and Andrew Knight, was nominated for six Academy Awards, of which it won two. Hacksaw Ridge is a brilliant and brutal look into the nature of war and worthy of a stream, and given it's coming to a streaming platform soon, Peacock subscribers can take to viewing it as Doss took to saving lives, "Give me one more!" Hacksaw Ridge will start streaming on Peacock on March 31.

War films play host to some of the most quotable movie characters of all time. Flexing their verbal dexterity, charismatic personalities, and lighting-quick wit through an array of memorable and instantly quotable soundbites, these standout characters have featured in virtually every brand of genre offering that one could think of, ranging from acclaimed films about lesser-known wars to war movies that are renowned for showcasing the camaraderie between soldiers.
This status quo comes down to the film's writing; great quotable characters couldn't exist without a superb script. As such, it's hardly surprising that many of the genre's most quotable characters can be found in the best war movies of all time, leveraging the potential afforded by a first-rate set of lines to the absolute maximum. The genre houses an array of standout examples when it comes to delivering a killer quote, numbering from legendary warriors of antiquity all the way to battle-hardened WWII soldiers.

In 2006, Mel Gibson was just about the most controversial guy in Hollywood. But he was, let’s all admit it, still an icon of the screen. As such, some people still had a lot of faith in him. And that faith would be translated in Hacksaw Ridge. There was the faith of its central figure, Desmond Doss; that which the producers and studio put into Gibson; and that which Gibson himself had in the project, which would tell of a conscientious objector during World War II. A gamble? Absolutely. A success? Unprecedented. So pick up that weapon, soldier – or, better yet, be at ease – as we find out: What Happened to This Movie?!
Hacksaw Ridge centers around the real-life figure of Desmond Doss, who served as a medic during World War II and became famous for his refusal to carry a weapon. Even still, he is credited with saving 75 lives while in action.

Hacksaw Ridge is "not quite authentic," though its intense battle scenes still impress historian John McManus. Directed by Mel Gibson, the 2016 war film follows the experiences of Desmond Doss during World War II who, as a devout Seventh-day Adventist, refused to carry or use any weapons or firearms, and became the first conscientious objector to ever receive the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary service during the Battle of Okinawa. The movie stars Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss alongside a cast that includes Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths, Vince Vaughn, and Richard Pyros.
In a video from Insider, historian John McManus rated the accuracy of World War II battles in movies and TV shows, including the Battle of Okinawa in Hacksaw Ridge. Watch the portion of the video below, starting at the 0:21 minute mark:

With the nostalgic love for teen dramas like Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries, the teen drama genre has been struggling when it comes to newer entries. While the early 2000s to mid-2010s had several long-running, beloved teen dramas, the streaming era has led to a rut for the genre, with most teen-centered shows struggling to find their footing. Despite several teen dramas premiering in the last five years, none have managed to maintain the audiences of their predecessors.
A big reason many prefer to rewatch old teen dramas than give newer shows a chance is the inevitable chance of an early cancelation. Several teen dramas, new and old, are canceled way too soon, not being given the chance to build up an audience over time. Some of these shows deserved a longer run, as they couldve had the potential to become a classic of the teen drama genre.

In an alternate timeline somewhere, "Men in Black" may have led to the blockbuster leading man career of "Friends" star David Schwimmer instead of Oscar-winner Will Smith. Stories about Schwimmer's near-casting in the first "Men in Black" film have been around for years. However, during his appearance this week on the podcast "Origins With Cush Jumbo" (via The Hollywood Reporter), Schwimmer explained more fully why he ended up picking a different project over the hit sci-fi action-comedy.

Glen Powells $220M Rom-Com Fulfills The Secret Emma Stone Movie Trilogy You May Not Have Known About
Anyone But You references director Will Gluck's previous rom-com, Easy A. Emma Stone's character Olive Penderghast features in three of Gluck's rom-coms - Easy A, Friends with Benefits, and Anyone But You. Stone's involvement in Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things may have prevented her from having a cameo in Anyone But You like she had in Friends with Benefits.
Anyone But You fulfills a covert rom-com trilogy by sneaking in a subtle reference to a character Emma Stone played early in her career. The popular romance film is, in fact, chock-full of references, most being towards Shakespeare's 16th-century play "Much Ado About Nothing," from which Anyone But You is loosely inspired. Anyone But You's rough remake of the comedic play features Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell as Beatrice and Ben, respectively, two rivaling singles who pretend to be in a relationship to appease their loved ones and stick it to their exes.

However, certain cases apply to characters who should know that they can trust each other, or should at least try to talk before resorting to violence and chaos.
There are a lot of classic, all-too-familiar...

Rachel Griffiths wants people to start respecting sex workers. Now.
“If we disrespect sex workers, we are disrespecting women. It’s the same thing,” she says.
“In Australia, we are in the throes of terrible violence against women. We’ve had more of them die at the hands of their partners or ex-partners in the first three months of the year than in all of last year. People used to talk about what a woman was wearing if something bad happened to her. If she was a sex worker, nobody investigated these cases. I really hope we grow out of it.”
In her new show “Madam,” Griffiths – a “Six Feet Under” and “Brothers & Sisters” star, nominated for an Academy Award for “Hilary and Jackie” – plays Mack Leigh. The show had its world premiere Saturday at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

The Monte-Carlo Television Festival has rolled out the blue carpet welcoming star guests for its 63rd edition, but it also has an eye on the future.
“We’re always working towards expanding and developing the festival. Each year, we get better and better,” executive director Cécile Menoni says.
Listing “fabulous highlights,” Menoni gushes over this year’s Crystal Nymph winner: Morgan Freeman. The award recognizes the “stellar body of work” of the veteran actor, who recently exec produced “The Gray House,” which celebrated its world premiere Friday at the opening ceremony. Mary-Louise Parker, Daisy Head, Amethyst Davis and Ben Vereen attended.
“It’s such a thrill for us to honor him,” Menoni says.
The fest will also take a closer look at rising stars, with “Bridgerton’s” Simone Ashley given the International Golden Nymph for most promising talent. Honorary Golden Nymph – “Our festival’s highest accolade” – will go to “true fan favorite” Olivier Marchal.

“Six Feet Under” star Rachel Griffiths gets a new job in upcoming drama series “Madam” – as an ethical brothel owner.
The first trailer for the series sees Griffiths, playing wife and mother Mack, get to grips with the business after she discovers her husband has been seeing sex workers behind her back.
“Mack Leigh lives in small-town New Zealand with her husband Rob and their two sons,” reads the synopsis. “What was meant to be a short visit became permanent thanks to the free healthcare for their disabled son. When Mack discovers Rob’s been seeing a sex worker, she’s surprisingly not angry but inspired. After all, sex work is legal in New Zealand, and her marriage has lacked intimacy for years. Over two decades after its initial release, "Six Feet Under" is a uniquely of-its-time television show. The series about a family-owned funeral home and the dysfunctional constellation of people whose lives are shaped by it is often as emotional and riveting now as it was upon release, but it's also aged in interesting key ways. With "American Beauty" scribe Alan Ball and future "Transparent" creator Joey Soloway working behind the scenes, the series also builds in space for existential contemplation, playful and shocking transgression, and mistakes. Lots and lots of mistakes.
As the show wears on, how frequently — and how believably — the Fisher family screws up is at times directly correlated to how well the show's story succeeds. The writers of "Six Feet Under" put their characters through the wringer again and again in a move that makes the series' weakest seasons feel redundant, while its high points mine the mess-ups for heartfelt emotion,...

The Six Feet Under series finale is widely considered to be one of the greatest finales of all time. Just ask Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, who once wrote, “That [final] episode was far and away the best finale in the entire history of television, and I cannot imagine how anyone could possibly do better.” Series creator Alan Ball even said he still cries watching it.
It’s hard to argue with the brilliance of an episode that, like life itself, begins with a birth, ends with death, and fills its allotted time with love, pain, family, friendship, resignation, reunions, and tiny miracles like watching a newborn baby breathe.

'Anyone But You' is a rom-com with a modern twist and a nod to classic rom-com elements. The movie's success lies in its box office numbers despite mixed reviews from critics. The film features a reunion of Dermot Mulroney and Rachel Griffiths, who starred in 'My Best Friend's Wedding'.
Anyone But You has all the elements of a rom-com, including a subtle reunion for one of Julia Roberts most popular rom-coms from 27 years ago. The rom-com genre has been going through a resurgence, and one of its biggest successes in recent years is Will Glucks Anyone But You. Loosely based on William Shakespeares Much Ado About Nothing, Anyone But You brought together Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney to play Ben and Bea. Despite critics not being fully on board with Anyone But Yous story and tone, the movie was a huge box office success, breaking different records.

Anyone But You has become a gloval Netflix hit just months after becoming a sleeper hit at the box office. The movie landed at No. 2 on the weekly Netflix Top 10 chart with 18.3 million hours viewed. The pairing of Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, fresh off successful projects, is likely a driving force behind the film's success.

There’s clever marketing, and then there’s Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney’s ingenious strategy for drumming up more interest in their romantic comedy, Anyone But You, by leading the world into thinking they’re having an off-screen relationship. Speaking with The New York Times about the success of the couple’s comedic smash hit, which earned $219 million at the worldwide box office, Powell says he and Sweeney leaned into the rumors to bring attention to their film, and it worked like a charm.
“The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry,” Powell told The New York Times. “Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.

Romantic comedies are alive and well, it seems, and we have a couple of emerging, A-list movie stars to thank for it. "Anyone But You" has officially crossed the $200 million mark at the box office in one of the most unlikely turnarounds for a movie in years, financially speaking. But the star power of Glen Powell ("Top Gun: Maverick") and Sydney Sweeney ("Euphoria") got the attention of the moviegoing masses and they turned this lower-mid-budget rom-com into the biggest hit the genre has seen in nearly a decade.
The Sony Pictures release has amassed $87 million domestically to go with a stellar $113 million internationally, per Variety. That puts it past the total of other recent hits in the genre, including "Ticket to Paradise" ($168 million), which starred both Julia Roberts and George Clooney, as well as "The Lost City" ($192 million), which was led by Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. Both of those...

The movie Bring Him to Me explores themes of guilt, addiction, and grief through a tense, single-location thriller narrative. Barry Pepper's character, the Driver, is a getaway driver dealing with inner turmoil, represented visually through his unkempt appearance. Pepper's method acting approach immerses him deeply in his roles, even leading to sleepwalking and intense processing after filming wraps.
A man begins to question his entire life of crime over the course of one fateful drive in Bring Him to Me. The movie stars Lawmen: Bass Reeves' Barry Pepper as the Driver, a criminal getaway driver tasked with transporting one of the crew members of a robbery gone awry, who is believed to have stolen some of the money from the job, to their boss to face the music.

I'm about to propose a somewhat radical idea, but hear me out: What if enemies ... became lovers? Once upon a time, the studio system used to deliver multiple movies a year riffing on this classic rom-com premise, but recent decades have seen these exact sorts of vehicles for movie stars falling by the wayside more and more. After all, we just have to make room for more superhero movies like "Madame Web," don't we? But in a highly ironic twist, one disaster of a Sydney Sweeney-starring production has given way to another much more successful one -- and the same studio is responsible for both. Sensing a lesson here, folks? In short, long live rom-coms!
"Anyone But You" maybe didn't reinvent the wheel or anything, as laid out in Marshall Shaffer's review for /Film, but co-leads Sweeney and Glen Powell certainly managed to charm their ways into the hearts of audiences worldwide.
