John Carpenter's underrated horror film, Vampires, has been resurrected on Netflix. The film was originally adapted from the novel Vampire$ by John Steakley.
John Carpenter's Vampires sees James Woods starring as Jack Crow, the leader of a group of vampire hunters. He leads the team as their "master slayer", working to prevent a centuries-old cross from falling into the hands of Jan Valek (Thomas Ian Griffith), the progenitor of all vampires. The film's supporting cast includes Daniel Baldwin, Sheryl Lee, Tim Guinee and Maximillian Schell.
Carpenter took a unique approach to the film's casting, actively avoiding "another musclebound meathead" for the lead role, which led to Woods' casting.Clint Eastwood, Kurt Russell, Bill Paxton, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and R. Lee Ermey were all reportedly considered for the role, but either declined or had scheduling conflicts. Sheryl Lee, who plays a prostitute with a psychic link to Valek, was...

If you weren't watching the season 11 finale of "Bones" — titled "The Nightmare in the Nightmare" — live when it aired in the summer of 2016, you might not know that it was pre-empted by a particularly divisive politician ... and star Emily Deschanel was really ticked off about the whole thing.
On July 21 of that year — which, as you probably know, happened to be an election year! — "Bones" tried to air this exciting episode that brings a long-lost character back into the mix, but the broadcast was completely uninterrupted by Donald Trump's speech at that year's Republican National Convention where he accepted the nomination for President of the United States. Considering that the speech went on for a whopping 75 minutes, it makes sense that anything airing on, say, Fox might have to wait until Trump wrapped up his whole thing, and that meant "Bones" experienced a major interruption. Kevin Costner‘s period Western Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 has a streaming date.
The first chapter in the former Yellowstone star’s film saga will release on Max on Aug. 23.
Following the film disappointing at the box office — Chapter 1, which runs three hours and one minute, opened to just $11 million over the June 28-30 weekend — Costner’s Territory Pictures and distribution partner New Line Cinema decided to pause on releasing Horizon: Chapter 2. The second installment was pulled from a planned Aug. 16 theater release in order to give audiences the opportunity to discover the first installment on PVOD and Max.
Chapter 1 debuted in the home on Premium VOD July 16 while it remained in theaters, but at that time, a Max date had not been announced. The switch-up in what was an ambitious release plan was in hopes of allowing more time to grow the audience, as the first film sports a $100 million price tag.

Kevin Costner's sprawling opening salvo of Western colonization falls far short of his previous Oscar-winning efforts. Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 introduces a slew of archetypal characters in a three-hour narrative that's oddly disjointed despite the early stated goal. A Donner Party premise follows disparate settlers lured by an alluring flyer's promise of rich farmland in the unspoiled wilderness. There's zero mention of the Indigenous population who already call it home and are willing to slaughter invaders to protect their land. Harrowing moments abound in the requisite scenic vistas with a muddled attempt at diversity and realism. Native Americans are fairly represented, but other races historically present at the time are sadly tokenized.

It would be unreasonable to expect Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, as the first of a planned four-film series about the expansion of the American West, to tie all of its narrative threads together. But Kevin Costner’s grand opus gets off to an inauspicious start, with its various storylines often muddled by the consistently haphazard editing, to the point that it becomes difficult to tell how many of the countless characters are related to one another.
If the audience is meant to be privy to where things are heading, there should at least be some clearly defined motivations or character development, perhaps even something resembling narrative momentum. But Horizon Chapter 1 is all table-setting, with the stories lacking in polish and dramatic momentum and the characters never developed beyond archetypes. There’s even little sense of either geographic or temporal scope to make this entry feel like part...

Kevin Costner aims to revolutionize Western films by focusing on the underrepresented female characters in Horizon: An American Saga. He believes Westerns often rely on lazy gunfight-heavy plots and aims to infuse Horizon with authentic scenes that appeal to a wider audience. The success of Horizon at the box office will depend on its ability to stand out amidst a resurgence of Western content and compete with more universally appealing films.
Kevin Costner details what he believes most Western genre films get wrong and explains why Horizon: An American Saga avoids these issues. Costner is finally about to release the first two installments of his Horizon films, the first of which will be released at the end of the month on June 28. Kevin Costner spent $38 million of his own money to finance his new Western film Horizon: An American Saga. Well, the early tracking numbers are in, and the news is not good: the first part of Horizon is currently projected to make $12 million in its opening weekend of release on June 28th (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Horizon has been Costner’s passion project for decades, having first begun working on it in 1988. Now, decades later, he’s finally set to unveil the first part of what he ultimately hopes to be a four-installment film franchise that he will write, direct, and star in himself. The total budget for the first two films sits around $100 million, with Costner himself having personally contributed $38 million to the overall budget (apparently by mortgaging his house). The remaining chunk was reportedly financed through foreign sales.

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema’s vast Horizon: An American Saga Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird (The Explorers Guild) and produces through his Territory Pictures.
In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

Kevin Costner has been in the saddle long enough to know the difference between a big-screen feature Western like Dances With Wolves, a miniseries like Hatfields & McCoys or a longform like Yellowstone. All those projects have done well by him and he’s done well by them. His connection to the quintessential Americana genre and the rugged lands it calls home is indubitable. So why is his sprawling new frontier tale, Horizon: An American Saga, such a clumsy slog? It plays like a limited series overhauled as a movie, but more like a hasty rough cut than a release ready for any format.
Running a taxing three hours, this first part of a quartet of films is littered with inessential scenes and characters that go nowhere, taking far too long to connect its messy plot threads. Warner Bros. will release Chapter One in U.S. theaters June 28, with Chapter...

Kevin Costner – Shares New Look At His Upcoming Two-part Western Movie
The first trailer showed us the chaos that envelopes a town when settlers move in, and the second one is taking us deep into the heart of the whole process that led to the massive unrest.
While you may claim to have seen Kevin Costner in a western movie for many years – re ‘Yellowstone’ – you haven’t seen him in this one.
Let’s just say he’s a tad more brutal within this new environment.
Apart from showing us the breathtaking landscapes, we’re also introduced to more characters and we get to see and understand more of Costner’s character.

Kevin Costner‘s two-part western epic passion project is just over the horizon. The first part of Horizon: An American Saga premieres next month and Warner Bros. has just released the new official second trailer for the film. The Yellowstone actor has returned to the director’s seat for the first time in over twenty years for these films. Costner began work on this story in 1988 and he has more movies planned. The main character that he invented for this film in 1988 was so important to him that he even named his son, Hayes, after him. He hopes the movies can be a big franchise and that years from now, people can binge-watch hours of Horizon in theaters.

Kevin Costner is also a big fan of physical media, and when asked by Deadline about the supposed “death of the DVD,” he was quick to jump to its defence.
“Death of the what? DVD is not dead, at all,” Kevin Costner said. “That’s what they’d have you believe. Maybe it’s not making the same amount of money, but just try to go ask for that from the studio. They won’t give that up. A lot of people that like my movies, they can’t get to a theater, and they’re waiting for that moment. You can’t make your film for the opening weekend. You have to make it for its life.

Hold onto your horses, folks! Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga is riding into CinemaCon 2024 to share the latest about the Yellowstone and Dances With Wolves star’s Western epic. On Monday, we learned the first part of Horizon: An American Saga, which will debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19. Still, attendees moseying into CinemaCon got a new look at the sprawling drama of how settlers won the West.
During the Warner Bros. panel, Costner addressed the CinemaCon crowd, saying the movie is a bit about the promise of America. The idea was that if you were mean enough, tough enough, you could take what you wanted, but in the process, you stepped on people who had been here for 1000 years. But the film does not pass judgment, and that story, to him, was drama.

Just as with his last directorial effort, the brilliant 2003 western Open Range, he’s independently funded the movie, and brought in distributors afterwards.
In the US, it’s New Line Cinema – and thus Warner Bros – that’s going to be releasing the first two films, both of which are coming out this summer. The first lands in June, the second lands in August, and both are getting US cinema releases.
As far as I’ve been able to ascertain, and heck I’ve been looking, there’s been no deal...

Take a look at more footage from Oscar winning director Kevin Costner’s new 4-part movie series "Horizon: An American Saga", rated 'R' for "violence, nudity and sexuality," chronicling a 15-year span of pre-and post-'Civil War' settlement of the ‘American Old West’, releasing June 28, 2024 (Chapter 1) and August 16, 2024 (Chapter 2) in theaters:
"A lot of times we measure ourselves against other generations," said Costner about his new film series.
"I think about what was at stake. How did people survive? There's a rawness and an unpredictability about it. I'm haunted by that."
Costner, in addition to directing, stars in "Horizon", alongside his son Hayes Costner, who plays the young Costner.
Cast also includes Sienna Miller…
…Sam Worthington, Jamie Campbell Bower, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Michael Rooker, Jena Malone, Isabelle Fuhrman, Alejandro Edda...

Kevin Costner on Monday shared on socials a first trailer for Horizon, the two-part Western epic that played a role in his growing frustrations with his Yellowstone experience.
Before the WGA strike began last May, Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan had completed scripts for the back half of the show’s fifth season that did not include Costner, whose alleged demands had been widely reported. Per the industry-insider newsletter Puck, Costner’s reps later expressed his desire to return for Season 5B and possibly more.

Part one of “Horizon: An American Saga,” the multi-film Western epic that Kevin Costner left “Yellowstone” to make, will hit theaters on June 28, with part two to follow on August 16. Warner Bros. released a trailer for the two-part film on Monday.
The trailer promises a sprawling, colorful, violent Western film about Manifest Destiny. It’s about the settling of the titular town during the years of the Civil War, as the American frontier pushes westward and settlers come into conflict with the people indigenous to the land. “There’s no army on this Earth that are going to stop those wagons coming,” a Union Army officer played by Costner’s “Yellowstone” co-star Danny Huston warns in something like the trailer’s thesis statement.
Costner wrote the script for “Horizon” with Jon Baird, produces with Howard Kaplan and Mark Gillard, directs, and stars. It’s his first time directing a film since 2003’s “Open Range,...

Oscar winner Kevin Costner returns to the director’s chair with Warner Bros Pictures’ Horizon: An American Saga four-part film series. The Western epic just debuted its first trailer and released the first batch of official photos from chapter one of Costner’s Civil War tale.
“In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many,” reads Warner Bros Pictures’ synopsis. “Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”

Kevin Costner has revealed the trailer for the first installment of Horizon: An American Saga, his upcoming multi-part, self-funded western. Horizon Part One is set to hit theaters on June 28th, 2024, with part two following just weeks later on August 16th.
Horizon has been Costner’s passion project for decades, having first begun working on it in 1988. He wrote directed, and stars in the film — and also largely financed it himself (apparently by mortgaging his house). It’s also the reason why Costner decided to depart Yellowstone.
After securing a distribution deal with Warner Bros. and New Line in 2022, Costner left the set of Yellowstone and headed to Utah, where he shot the first two installments of Horizon in succession. Depending on the success of those films, Costner hopes to make two more installments.
Horizon is set during the four-year period of America’s Civil War (1861-1865). Alongside Costner,...
