Sometimes the most memorable characters are the ones no one expects. When Gilmore Girls premiered on the WB in 2000, of course, the standouts were Lauren Graham and newcomer Alexis Bledel as Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. As the series progressed and found its footing and voice, other side characters began to stand out as well. In the Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino created series, one of those standouts was Kirk Gleason, played by Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy). Gunn starred in Gilmore Girls originally here and there, but as the series developed, so did Kirk as the quirky, make-you-scratch-your-head, "that's Kirk" every man we knew by the final season.

Wherever the cast of Gilmore Girls lead, the questions about whether the series will ever return for more in some capacity will inevitably follow. After the four-episode Netflix revival series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life dropped in November 2016, fans of the beloved series have been anxious for the story to continue, but apart from the cast saying they'd return in a heartbeat, there have been no concrete plans for a new iteration of the dramedy.
Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham has been making the promotional rounds in support of her new Tubi comedy series The Z-Suite, and she has fielded multiple questions in interviews about the status of Gilmore Girls. She hasn't broken any news we didn't know before, but during a recent appearance on Armchair Expert with her on-screen Parenthood brother Dax Shepard, Graham revealed the only way she could currently see the series returning.

Superman flies into theaters later this summer, but James Gunn has shared an early behind-the-scenes look at the film in celebration of one of the main cast members’ birthday. Among the many characters making their debut in the DC Universe in Superman is Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, a fan-favorite from the source material. He is set to be a key part of the upcoming Dcu film, and what better way to celebrate the actor's birthday than to release a new look at him in the highly-anticipated production.
On Instagram, Gunn shared a photo of Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, as well as Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, on the set of Superman. The scene being filmed takes place in the desert, and appeared briefly in the record-breaking teaser released in December. Fans of Gilmore Girlsappreciate the show for the funny back-and-forth, witty banter between Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham). The charming small-town atmosphere of Stars Hollow feels immersive and welcoming. From Luke's Diner to Kim's Antiques, every business seems like a place that viewers would want to visit. The residents of Star's Hollow, meanwhile, are quirky, interesting, and above all, fully realized. The wit, the charm, the characters...Bunheads shares all of what made Gilmore Girls such an incredible show. It was even created by the same person: Amy Sharman-Palladino.
Bunheads explored themes of growing up and finding one's place in the world. It took its characters seriously, giving them sharp dialogue and interesting arcs.It only ran for 18 episodes in 2012 on ABC Family before it was canceled due to poor ratings. There are many amazing cult TV shows that only aired for one season, and Bunheads should be included among them.

Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn have joined the cast of “New Years Rev,” the Green Day-inspired comedy movie from writer-director Lee Kirk.
The film, a coming-of-age story about three friends who journey to Los Angeles under the false belief that their band is opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve, is based on the California punk rockers’ early exploits from living in a tour van.
Live Nation Productions describes the project as a “rowdy and mischievous” road-trip comedy “filled with adventures,” plus a live performance from Green Day.
Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust star as the band members alongside “Office” favorites Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio and Keen Ruffalo.
“Not only will ‘New Years Rev’ include wall to wall Green Day music and a concert at the Palladium in Hollywood, it’ll also feature some of the best and funniest actors working today.

Within the continuously changing film and television landscape, comic book movies have a significant share of contemporary must-see theatrical events. Even though many factors have led to an overall declining box office, superhero movies are relentlessly fighting to leave their cinematic mark and many of our favorite heroes have had a positive impact at movie theaters in recent years.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is evolving their strategy while moving forward to develop content for many years to come. Sony Marvel movies have also been supplementing the genre with sporadic releases in recent years, however limited financial success may prevent Sony from continuing with their separate Marvel universe. On the contrary, DC is restarting their Justice League-based franchise, with big promises from studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Last year, DC Studios launched the Dcu with Creature Commandos. The animated series received rave reviews when it launched and a second season was announced before the finale aired.
In an interview with The Direct about Harley Quinn season 5, Creature Commandos showrunner Dean Lorey confirmed that the next batch of episodes is being fast-tracked by DC Studios and Max.

It's clearly still very early days for Creature Commandos season 2. Plus, with Superman and Peacemaker season 2 in post-production, it might be tough for creator James Gunn to find the time to write the series as quickly as some fans would like.

Creature Commandos Season 2 is arriving a lot sooner than fans probably expected, according to an exciting new update. Last year, the official start of the rebooted DC Universe came in the form of an animated series following a ragtag group of superpowered inmates with monstrous abilities forced to do dirty work for Amanda Waller. Yes, James Gunn's Superman will be the theatrical debut of the Dcu, but Creature Commandos laid the groundwork for the new franchise. And for those anxiously awaiting the second season, fret not, as it seems Max and DC Studios are making it a top priority.
During an interview with The Direct for Harley Quinn Season 5, Creature Commandos showrunner Dean Lorey confirmed they are hard at work on the second season. He teases that development is still in its "early days," but then goes on to reveal that the studio "put it on a fast track.

Every day brings an onslaught of distracting news and controversies, and it's easy to forget yesterday's tragedy and simply move on to tomorrow's in a case of "disaster amnesia." This "flooding the zone," as Steve Bannon calls it, is intentionally designed to overwhelm people, so it's important to focus on the tangible problems we can all actually help. One of them is the catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires that destroyed more than 18,000 homes and structures, burned more than 57,000 acres of land, and killed at least 29 people. A new charity benefit, Multicon, is bringing together creative artists of all kinds to help raise money to rebuild homes and help people who are really in need. It's happening on Feb. 22 at The Preserve LA and you can get tickets and information here. You can find other ways to help at the bottom of the article.

Exclusive: Aaron Holliday (Cocaine Bear), Jermaine Fowler (Sorry to Bother You), Michael Abbott Jr. (Fallout) and Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) have wrapped on Appofeniacs, an indie horror film from writer-director Chris Marrs Piliero.
Appofeniacs is a riff on the term “apophenia” which is the tendency to find connections or patterns in things that are unrelated or random — common examples being confirmation bias and paranoia. This marks the feature debut for Piliero, who is known for his music video work with Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Kesha, and The Black Keys (for which he won an MTV VMA).
Piliero independently financed and produced the film, which also stars Will Brandt, Paige Searcy, Simran Jehani, Harley Bronwyn, and Sean Wing. Gunn exec produced the pic, with Salvatore Schiavone and Jonathan Voluck handling casting.
Previously seen in Universal’s horror comedy Cocaine Bear, Holliday has also been seen on HBO’s Euphoria and Sharp Objects.

Someone needs to get Nathan Fillion a catwalk because there’s no chance a football field is long enough for the strut he’s rockin’ while showing off the best look yet at his Green Lantern character for James Gunn’s Superman movie. Despite not showing much in the way of advertising for DC Studios’s Superman, Fillion’s Guy Gardner managed to infiltrate the big game to mug for audiences. Few actors portray smugness like Nathan Fillion, precisely the type of energy Guy Gardner puts out in DC’s Green Lantern series.

If you can believe it, it's been almost nine years since Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premiered on Netflix. Make sure you're sitting down for this one: In 2025, Gilmore Girls celebrates its 25th anniversary. 25 years! Time flies when you're talking fast. Like fans, series star Lauren Graham looks back with only fond memories of her role as Lorelai Gilmore.
While promoting her new Tubi comedy series The Z-Suite, Lauren Graham stopped by The Tonight Show to chat with Jimmy Fallon. He brought up Gilmore Girls celebrating 25 years, and Graham again highlighted that she's "super grateful" for the series and can't believe that new generations are continuing to discover the show and make it part of their lives.
Since the show's Netflix revival in 2016, Graham has been asked at every turn if the series will come back for another revival in some form. That's been the question on everyone's...

The Puppy Bowl has been and gone and, unfortunately, the only Superman sneak peek shown during the event was the same trailer released by DC Studios last December.
That means the widely touted new look at the Dcu movie boiled down to that, some merchandise featuring Krypto, and a promo clip featuring Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern, Guy Gardner. In that, the Green Lantern Corps member flashes a cocky smile after it's made clear the only "bowl" he needs is his iconic bowl cut.
While many DC fans are disappointed with the lack of new content for Superman, we weren't ever promised a trailer and there's still a slim chance something could be released during the Super Bowl. We wouldn't bank it on, though.
"Guy Gardner is 90% flawed and doesn’t care. That’s one of his flaws," Fillion previously said of the character. "I think there’s a real freedom in playing that.

With Rachel Brosnahan joining James Gunn’s new cinematic Dcu, she’s optimistic for some truth, justice and the American way.
The 2x Critics Choice Television Awards winner teased Deadline at Friday’s 30th annual awards show of what’s to come in Gunn’s upcoming take on Superman, and how it “really encapsulates” what the Man of Steel stands for.
“We’re living in a moment of so much turmoil, both here, abroad,” she noted. “There’s a lot of challenges for everybody in all different pockets of the worlds right now. And for a lot of the complaints that people have sometimes about superhero movies, at their core, they’re about the goodness of people and how good we can be to each other, how the pursuit of truth and justice really are the American way, and that courage and hope can carry us through.

Gilmore Girls is a comfort show to many but, as it turns out, it's one of Lauren Graham's favorite works, too. The actress played Lorelai Gilmore in the series and its revival series, and, although she's had other exciting roles, Gilmore Girls is one of her favorites.
Graham's latest roles include the 2024 Christmas film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, 2025's Twinless, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with stunning reviews, and the upcoming series The Z-Suite. The latter is set to premiere on Tubi on Feb. 6 as a Tubi Original. Ahead of the series release, Graham stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and talked about the new series but also Gilmore Girls.

Lauren Graham will “always say yes” to returning to Stars Hollow.
The actress, who played Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls, opposite Alexis Bledel, for seven seasons, was recently asked on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon if she would return for a potential reboot.
“I would, yes! I always say yes because it’s the best part I ever had, and I love doing it,” Graham said. “It was the perfect material at the perfect time with the perfect writer, and it just means so much to me.”
The WB/CW dramedy, which ran from 2000 to 2007, centered around the relationship between thirtysomething single mother Lorelai and her teen daughter Rory (Bledel) living in Stars Hollow, Connecticut. It's a good day to be a Pedro Pascal fan. A release window has been revealed for the actor's upcoming A24 movie Eddington.
According to Variety, A24 is bringing Ari Aster's hotly-anticipated Beau Is Afraid follow-up, Eddington, to the European Film Market in Berlin later this month. It's also being reported that A24 is targeting a summer release for the original thriller movie that boasts a cast that includes Pascal, Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler. Eddington might also be in contention for a Cannes debut, which would make it Aster's first film as director to bow at the festival, which will be held from May 13-24 this year. This suggests that the movie will not debut in theaters until late May at the earliest.

Speaking at the Saturn Awards, Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña gave new information on his upcoming return in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC universe — exciting news for those excited to see more from Jaime Reyes.
Back in June, Deadline confirmed that a Blue Beetle animated series, featuring Maridueña, was in the works. This comes after Maridueña starred as the titular Blue Beetle in the character's 2023 movie, one of the last DC Extended Universe (or SnyderVerse) movies to release before the switch to Gunn.
He is one of only a select few Dceu actors to return in Gunn's new slate of movies and shows as the same character, joining the likes of Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Sean Gunn (Weasel), John Cena (Peacemaker), and a couple of others.

Creature Commandos saw Rick Flag Sr. lead a team comprised of The Bride, G.I. Robot, Doctor Phosphorus, Nina Mazursky, and Weasel.
Despite the fact even the most die-hard DC readers might not have been overly familiar with the show's leads, Task Force M quickly struck a chord with fans. Now, creator and writer James Gunn has revealed some familiar - and not-so-familiar - names who failed to make the cut.
"I definitely considered Wolfpack, and, especially, Man-Bat (one of my faves)," the filmmaker told a fan on Threads. "But I knew I wanted to tell Weasel's story so it felt like too many rabid and fuzzy characters."
"I considered Vincent Velcoro but wanted to choose a 'creature' far outside the usual roster from another part of DC - so I went with Dr. Phosphorous instead. I also considered Solomon Grundy, another favorite, but was pretty set on Frankenstein," Gunn concluded.

James Gunn’s Creature Commandos has officially started the Dcu and fans got the first glimpse of what is to come in the franchise. The next step in Gunn’s master plan is the upcoming film Superman, of which some characters and possible plot points have already been hinted at in the animated series.
Creature Commandos is a sort of continuation of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, with many characters returning to the franchise. They will also be playing the live-action versions of these characters in the Dcu. From a nightmare vision with the Justice League of America in ruins to a post-apocalyptic future, here are several Easter Eggs from the first season.

In Creature Commandos, Rick Flag Sr. and Eric Frankenstein squared off with Clayface, and the former seemingly killed the shapeshifter after electrocuting him.
Clayface's remains were still splattered across the room when Amanda Waller showed up and he looked very dead. However, Creature Commandos was produced before James Gunn greenlit Mike Flanagan's Clayface movie - set for release on September 11, 2026 - and that now complicates things somewhat.
There have been multiple versions of the villain and Gunn has set the record straight by suggesting Clayface managed to survive that run-in with his fellow monster.

Creature Commandos not only kicked off the Dcu in spectacular fashion with a new cast of great characters, but it also did an exceptional job establishing a lived-in fictional universe. In addition to the great cast of characters that made up the Creature Commandos, it also introduced teases for plenty of other DC characters on the horizon. Batman, Wonder Woman, and Sgt. Rock were just a few names teased in a seven-episode animated series. Yet, one DC character, or characters, that Creature Commandos teased might be fulfilling a planned DC adaptation that has been in development at Warner Bros. for over a decade. It actually predates the Dcu's predecessor, the Dceu's first entry, Man of Steel. The characters in question are the Metal Men.
The Metal Men might not be DC's most famous team of heroes, but like The Guardians of the Galaxy at Marvel, they certainly have big-screen potential.

Ever since his first Guardians of the Galaxy movie became one of Marvel's biggest hits, James Gunn has gained something of a reputation for just how well he handles the characters and their individual character arcs. Not only does he know how to make them engaging and fun to watch, but he also knows how to break viewers' hearts with them; and he's recently taken that strength of his writing to the realm of television with the animated DC series, Creature Commandos. Wedged between the main story carried out through all 7 episodes of Season 1, the series also shows a deeper look at the titular task force by showing their origins and backstories, each one being more tragic than the last.

In his first foray into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2013's Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn proved that a good soundtrack can be as crucial to a movie as any other element. The film's carefully selected array of '60s and '70s pop hits breathed new life into decades-old songs and provided a crucial piece of character for protagonist Peter Quill. He repeated the trick in the 2017 sequel and the 2023 threequel, proving that a good soundtrack isn't just about providing background music, but can speak to the inner lives of the characters and the world of the film.
Now, over a decade since debuting Peter Quill's "Awesome Mix," Gunn has brought that keen skill for needle drops to his new role as creative head of the Dcu. This is on full display in the Dcu's first official project, Max's animated series Creature Commandos, which features a rich playlist...

The DC Universe's first official release has only increased the pressure on James Gunn's Superman, but the film still has a lot going for it. James Gunn's Superman movie is set for release in July 2025 and marks the true beginning of the Dcu's overarching story. 2025 is showing no stop in the superhero era in movies and TV with Thunderbolts*, Superman, Captain America: Brave New World and more releasing this year. As the year marches on, we’re going to see some expected, unexpected, and wild announcements are imminent. Ranked from least to most likely, this is what we may see in 2025.
Justice League Plans
The Justice League are somewhere down the line with DC, but where they are in the plan is completely unknown. Only two members of the League have been cast so far, unless it’s going to have multiple lanterns, feature two Kryptonians, or add Superman’s side characters, so the Justice League is likely quite far off. We know The Brave and the Bold isn’t releasing until after 2027, and there’s no projects announced for Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Flash, or Martian Manhunter. Maria Bakalova didn’t know she was up for the role of Cosmo the Space Dog when she auditioned for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’.The 28-year-old actress voiced the otherworldly mutt in the 2023 Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster, though director James Gunn and casting director Sarah Finn kept the role she was auditioning for a secret. In an interview with Collider, Bakalova said: “I got this audition not knowing what I'm auditioning for because it wasn't written, like, ‘It's going to be ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, or, ‘It's going to be a dog.’ Nothing. “I just did an audition where I was required to do something with, like, high-pitched energy. Then the next thing was to do a Zoom audition with Sarah and James, and then I saw that that's a dog.“I was like, ‘Okay. That's interesting. Should I go on all fours? What do I do?’. And he...

Despite the debut season of Creature Commandos coming to an end, star Maria Bakalova revealed her anxieties about voice acting in the Max series. She portrayed the morally complex Princess Ilana Rostovic, the acting monarch of Pokolistan who Task Force M is sent to protect.
In an appearance on Collider Ladies Night, Bakalova stated:
"Kudos to all the voice actors out there. It's such a hard job to do. You basically only use your voice. We're privileged, to a degree, to be able to use physical appearance, to be able to walk in a different way, to talk in a different way, look at people in a different way with a camera when we're acting on a set. You use your eyes a lot of times, you use your hands a lot of times, you use your smile a lot of times. With voice acting, you basically only use your...

Creature Commandos has concluded its first season, launching James Gunn's new DC Universe with a stylish animated series that sticks to the filmmaker's classic tropes while reinventing what audiences have come to expect from him. The first season of the Max original series follows the exploits of Task Force M, nicknamed the "Creature Commandos," as they undertake a mission in Pokolistan, where things take a surprise twist that none of them saw coming.
As is always the case with Gunn's films and series, Creature Commandos introduces audiences to a colorful cast of characters who grow more complex as time goes by. Gunn has confirmed that some of these characters will be making the jump to live-action in later installments of the Dcu, though he has kept the identities of these individuals secret. Nevertheless, there are certain characters in particular that audiences would like to see return in the Dcu.

Gilmore Girls has many hilarious side characters, from Kirk (Sean Gunn) with his many jobs to the lovable and overly enthusiastic Babette (Sally Struthers). These characters fill out the colorful town of Stars Hollow, making Gilmore Girls the comfy, rewatchable series it is. While the antics of such characters make up some of the series' best moments, it makes sense that their roles are small because they have a minimal effect on Lorelai's (Lauren Graham) and Rory's (Alexis Bledel) day-to-day life. However, one exception is Michel Gerard (Yanic Truesdale), who never got the attention he deserved.

Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for the Creature Commando Season 1 finale.Creature Commandos features the usual hallmark of a James Gunn project: a collection of misfits who are carrying around some immense trauma but manage to band together to either save others - or save themselves in the process. It's the same approach that powered his previous DC Comics projects The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, as well as his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel Studios. Commandos takes it one step further by dedicating each episode to exploring the backstories of its titular monsters, which adds some much-needed emotional depth — especially when it comes to G.I. Robot and Weasel (both voiced by Sean Gunn). The same approach is taken for the Season 1 finale, "A Very Funny Monster," though the outcome leaves a lot to be desired.
