Trivia

Nicholas Hammond

Edit
  • The second actor to play Spider-Man in a live-action production.
  • Has remained close to all his The Sound of Music (1965) siblings, particularly Charmian Carr. She, in turn, speaks affectionately of him in her autobiography.
  • Lives in Sydney, Australia where he works as a screenwriter, director, and actor. (December 2005)
  • Degree in English Literature (Princeton University).
  • Though he's mostly known for playing Spider-Man on television, and before that co-starring in The Sound of Music, he's also remembered as the shallow jock who told Marcia Brady (while breaking their date) "something suddenly came up" after she injured her nose on The Brady Bunch (1969).
  • He is the second actor to play a live-action version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man who was born before the character was created.
  • Nicholas was in one play with his mother, Eileen Bennett. His mother always used to accompany him while he was working, but in 1965, Nicholas didn't want to have his mother along when he was in the play "The Happiest Millionaire." His mother took a small part in the play to be able to be with her son but told no one she was his mother.
  • At six feet tall, he is so far the tallest actor to play Peter Parker/Spider-man.
  • In an interview, he revealed that he was going to reprise his TV role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in a proposed Hulk/Spider-Man TV movie in 1984. But he added that the studio eventually canceled the project, citing Lou Ferrigno's unavailability to reprise the role of the Hulk. Ferrigno, however, denied having ever been contacted about the project, saying he was unaware of the proposed project until he came across the information nearly 20 years later.
  • Girlfriend Robyn Nevin is the artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company.
  • Moved to Australia in the mid 1980s.
  • Best known for his role as Friedrich von Trapp, eldest son of the von Trapp children, in The Sound of Music (1965).
  • Has appeared in two films nominated for Best Picture Oscar: The Sound of Music (1965) and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019). The former won the category.
  • Previous jobs: Waiter, delivery boy, sold septic tanks.
  • Son of actress Eileen Bennett.
  • Has played the sons of Michael Redgrave and Walter Pidgeon.
