It was a sad day for S.W.A.T. fans earlier this month when CBS announced that, after nine seasons, the network would be canceling the hour-long drama starring Shemar Moore, Jay Harrington, David Lim, Patrick St. Esprit, Anna Enger Ritch, and Annie Ilonzeh. The network has tried this before, initially canceling S.W.A.T. in May 2023 after six seasons, only to renew it for a seventh, and supposedly final, season just 72 hours later. Before the seventh season could finish airing in April 2024, CBS opted to renew the show for another 22-episode season instead of taking the show off the air as planned. Unfortunately for S.W.A.T. fans, the eighth season didn't bring in enough of an audience for CBS to let the show continue into its ninth season.
While lovers of S.W.A.T. and its cast have plenty to be disappointed about, Shemar Moore fans specifically might be finding a silver lining. The day before...

After eight seasons, it seems Swat’s time might finally be coming to an end after CBS opted not to renew the series for a ninth season – canceling the show for a third time. It’s been quite a journey for the long-running series both for its cast and its fans who have helped the show evade cancellation twice before.
While CBS originally canceled the show after season 6 with no planned ending, the network reversed its decision just days later after fans and the cast vocally spoke out to express their desire for more. A seventh season was ordered which was supposed to be the show’s official final season, but then CBS surprised fans again by ordering an eighth season and reversing its cancellation decision for a second time in a row.

CBS’s Swat just got canceled again, but the series’ star hasn’t given up hope. Shemar Moore posted on Instagram asking Netflix to consider picking up the drama for a ninth season. Moore also pitched it to NBC, ABC, and Fox, suggesting the cast and crew still have a lot of love for the show, as does the series’ passionate fan base.
CBS previously canceled the police drama after season six, before reversing the decision and giving it a seventh season. It earned an eighth season, which premiered in October 2024.
The eighth, and now final, season continues with episode 15 (of 22) airing on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 10pm Et/Pt. Maja Vrvilo directed from a script by Matthew T. Brown.
Season eight stars Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, Jay Harrington as David “Deacon” Kay, David Lim as Victor Tan, Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks, and Anna Enger Ritch as Zoe Powell.

CBS has been on a rampage over the last few weeks. The network has canceled several popular shows, including some that have been on for nearly a decade. Fans have been taken aback by the swiftness of CBS' decisions, especially coming off the heels of the controversial Blue Bloods cancelation.
The network has scrapped Swat (for the third time), as well as the FBI spinoffs FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. The latter two has been particularly surprising, given that the flagship show is still in business and has already been renewed for additional seasons. Fans have naturally inquired about the reason behind these sudden cancelations, and they actually differ depending on the show.
CBS allegedly shifted its FBI priorities "Rampage" - With Covid devastating the country, two gunmen take out their desperation and rage on the elite class they perceive to be oppressing them as the team attempts to track and stop them.

S.W.A.T. has run out of lives. CBS has canceled the police drama starring Shemar Moore, now in its eighth season that will wrap in May.
If you are having a case of déjà vu, that is because, following a string of early renewals, S.W.A.T. was dramatically canceled in May 2023 after six seasons, only for CBS to reverse the decision days later with a pickup of what was announced at the time as a seventh and final season. Flash-forward to May 2024 when S.W.A.T. surprisingly was renewed for an eighth season.
Don’t expect another miraculous reprieve; this time the decision is believed to be final — and permanent.
During the past two years, S.W.A.T. lead studio Sony Pictures Television was able to propose financial terms that were appealing to CBS, sealing eleventh-hour pickups. This time, I hear, CBS did not engage in renewal talks, opting instead to end the long-running series outright.

It might actually be the end of the road for “S.W.A.T.”
CBS has opted not to renew the Shemar Moore-led procedural for a ninth season, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap. The news comes as “S.W.A.T.” rolls out its eighth and now final season, whose season finale will now serve as a series finale.
The cancellation marks the third time CBS has opted not to renew “S.W.A.T.,” with the show being canceled after six seasons in May 2023 before the network reversed its decision and renewed “S.W.A.T.” for a seventh and final season less than a week later after Moore and others spoke out about the cancellation. “We have listened to our viewers and their outpouring of passion for ‘S.W.A.T.,’” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope wrote in a joint statement at the time.

CBS has canceled its long-running action drama “S.W.A.T.” after eight seasons and 163 episodes, the show’s producers and stars were told on Thursday. But this represents the third time “S.W.A.T.” has been cancelled by the Eye net — so it’s probably tough to tell at this point if it’s really, really the end.
The series, which stars Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, was brought back to life for a Season 8 after CBS previously announced that its seventh season would be its last. And that wasn’t its first time, as CBS also axed the show in 2023 after Season 6, before announcing it would return for one last run.
In both cases, after the initial cancellation, CBS, Sony Pictures TV and CBS Studios were able to work out the deal to bring the show back at a license fee that made sense for all involved. But this time, it appears...

Swat has had one of the most fascinating histories of any procedural drama in recent memory. The show has repeatedly been canceled and brought back by CBS, which has led to whiplash for the fans. There's bad news and good news surrounding the show at the moment.
The bad news is that CBS opted not to renew Swat early. The good news is that fans have been here before, and if any show has proven to be resilient, its this one. The reason this decision to avoid early renewal is so interesting is because the network extended the contracts for several other shows.
CBS renewed all three NCIS shows, Tracker, Elsbeth and Fire Country. These were unsurprising calls, given the titles ranged from proven hitmakers to buzzy new shows that are still building up fanbases. Swat was exempt, however, which invariably begs the question: will the network finally pull the plug?...

A new episode of Swat is approaching and we actually got a promo for the new episode. Most of the time, the promos at the end of the episodes appeared to show clips from previous installments, so it was a nice surprise to see some new clips. Plus, one clip indicated the return of a character who has been seen on and off since season 1.
While the show focuses on Squad 20, we’ve gotten to know other Swat members at headquarters, including Sergeant Donovan Rocker, played by Lou Ferrigno Jr. He last appeared in a season 7 episode so it will be fun to see how he is part of the upcoming storyline.

The CBS drama S.W.A.T. has once more paused production due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. After briefly resuming filming following earlier interruptions caused by the Palisades and Eaton fires, the team faced another setback when the Hughes Fire erupted near Santa Clarita, according to Deadline.
Swat – Details About The Fire
The Hughes Fire started on January 22 near Castaic Lake, which is close to the show’s major filming location. This forced production to cease on Wednesday and Thursday as the fire spread, resulting in the evacuation of nearly 30,000 people and the closing of major roads.
By Saturday morning, the fire had burned around 10,500 acres and was estimated to be 87% contained. While it is unknown whether filming has restarted, the containment progress indicates that production may begin soon.

The CBS TV series S.W.A.T., currently heading for its eighth season, is the second-longest-running scripted show that’s currently airing on the network. As Season 8 approaches its winter premiere on Jan. 31, the show’s executive producer Shawn Ryan is talking about the odds of whether the show will return for a ninth season. Thus far, CBS has not been marketing the eighth season as S.W.A.T.’s final one.
“It’s been called the final season the last three or four seasons, hasn’t it?” said Ryan in an interview with Deadline about the show that stars Shemar Moore, Jay Harrington, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit. The last two seasons of the series were said to be the final ones at one point.

Fans of Swat will be happy to know the show is returning soon, especially considering the show had a brief pause in production due to the ongoing fires in Los Angeles. But with the show now back to working on new episodes, what can we expect with the episodes that are set to air in 2025?
As per Deadline, once Swat and other television programs got the go-ahead to go back to filming, we learned that filming will take place only indoors. This is due to the air quality and ongoing smoke from the flames as first responders continue to make progress in containing the fires. So even though we won’t likely see any car chases anytime soon, we’ll still get to see our favorite characters returning.
The show went off production within a couple of days after the start of the fires around Jan. 7 but then resumed filming on Jan.
