Digimon was once one of the biggest anime and media franchises out there, but it's also remained in the shadow of Pokémon. The same also goes for the original Digimon anime, creating a sort of nostalgia trap. Thankfully, there might be a way to take the brand in a new direction, and it's already being seen in non-anime mediums.
Digimon Liberator is the newest form of the franchise's card game, but it also has an accompanying web comic and web novel. Many have noted it as a unique version of Digimon in years, though others have noted that the mediums that the story is told through are almost hampering its potential. With all of this already laid out, an anime adapting these concepts is perhaps the best way to revive the franchise for anime fans.

My Hero Academia has delighted fans with heroic feats and incredible fights. Despite this, some viewers believe the story is just another generic superhero tale. Yet, they forget that My Hero Academia has shown audiences several great plot twists throughout its run. Even if fans guessed these plot twists early on, it doesn’t make them any less great.
Each plot twist speaks to the strength of Kohei Horikoshi’s writing and improves the anime’s lore. A few of these plot twists were so shocking that fans are still reeling about them. No matter what one’s opinion of My Hero Academia is, these plot twists were among the best that My Hero Academia offered.

The world of My Hero Academia is about to expand in the Spring 2025 anime season with the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime, adapting the 15-volume manga of the same name. The Vigilantes storyline may be an optional spinoff adventure, but it still does some impressively heavy lifting with the lore, including arcs for characters like the Symbol of Peace All Might and certainly Shota Aizawa/Eraser Head.
Even if Eraser Head will be a supporting hero rather than a major protagonist in the Vigilantes anime, this will still be a rich opportunity for fans of Eraser Head's to not only see more of him in action but also fill in the missing pieces of his backstory and personality. In the process, Eraser Head can help rebalance the franchise's combat system and tone to distance the narrative just enough from Deku-style arcs.

Shonen anime like My Hero Academia gain much-needed emotional depth and context when they explore each character's backstory, often to reveal their trauma and other hardships, and such was the case for the villain Dabi, originally Toya Todoroki. At first, Dabi just felt like another member of the League of Villains, but after he outed himself as Toya to the world, he gained newfound importance in the story — but his backstory didn't go quite far enough.
It's true Dabi got more flashbacks and exposition than fellow League members like Spinner and Mr. Compress, but even so, My Hero Academia still shortchanged Dabi with his character arc. An entire chunk of the villain's life is missing, probably to make room for other characters' backstories, but Dabi is not the kind of character who should have years of his chronology omitted. Dabi is one of the most thematic and consequential villains in all of My Hero Academia,...

My Hero Academia has cemented itself as one of the most popular shōnen anime in recent years. This is partially because of the superhero craze in the media within the last decade. This is especially true regarding the popularity of the Avengers and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The correlation between these two popular franchises has led some fans to imagine My Hero Academia characters as part of the MCU.
Heroes in the MCU are known for their brute strength, cunning, and specialized skills. They also include some of the smartest people in their fields. Any My Hero Academia character with these qualities would be perfect for the MCU. The Heroes’ powers in Mha are (mostly) congenital (unlike the Avengers), but their fighting styles and courage make them the perfect candidates for the MCU.

Fans of My Hero Academia are in for a treat later this year when the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes anime launches, and not just because it's a chance to meet new characters like Koichi Haimawari, Pop Step, and Knuckleduster. Spinoff series like Vigilantes are always a good chance to see side characters in a new light, such as the Pro Hero once known as Ingenium.
Ingenium, or Tensei Iida, only briefly appeared in the original story of My Hero Academia and mainly served as a plot device for his younger brother, Tenya. Tensei got himself fridged almost right away in the original anime, so fans of his are going to love his more substantial role in the Vigilantes anime, which will show everyone what a peak Ingenium looks like. It's also a positive trend in other ways, such as the power of family, and My Hero Academia could always use more of that.

My Hero Academia's anime has ample time for the story's most essential relationships, such as Deku's rivalry with Katsuki Bakugo and Himiko's heartfelt friendship with Twice. Other relationships had to take a back seat, which was often a shame. My Hero Academia established many interesting friendships, student/teacher duos, and rivalries that could have expanded on the anime's side characters. However, those relationships didn't get full-blown arcs to stick the landing.
Those under-explored relationships did get a few scenes to help My Hero Academia fans get the basic idea, and for the sake of pacing, that was all the anime could do. Given the chance, though, My Hero Academia ought to have fleshed out those relationships to show how they could evolve and grow over time with the benefit of more scenes. Based on what few scenes those relationships did get, fans can make a solid guess...

Over the course of My Hero Academia's story, a number of heroes and villains alike powered up, and some of them eventually ranked among the anime's most powerful characters of all. Deku is the main example, going from a Quirkless boy to the wielder of One For All, and even villains like Tomura Shigaraki and Himiko Toga upped their game in the story, too. But when My Hero Academia first launched, the lineup of the world's strongest fighters looked rather different.
When the very first episode of My Hero Academia took place, most future students of class 1-a had modest power, so the strongest characters were mostly pro heroes and villains. Some of them were clearly the world's strongest as of the day 14-year-old Deku met All Might in person, and most of them continued to rank among the anime's strongest characters. However, some of them got written out...

For the most part, My Hero Academia's final chapters and epilogue offered incredibly in-depth conclusions to most characters' arcs, tying up the loose threads of the story beautifully, but the same cannot be said for one pivotal villain in the series. Dabi, also known as Toya Todoroki, deserved a better conclusion than he received, especially when compared to the more detailed fates of his family members.
Dabi's death left me with more questions than answers, and ultimately, felt far too rushed for a character as complex as he is. I firmly believe one of the greatest improvements that could be made to My Hero Academia's story would be giving the popular villain a more fleshed-out, detailed character arc and a less hurried death, and I am positive I am not the only one with this opinion.

My Hero Academia makes use of plot armor quite frequently throughout its story. Just think about it: a group of inexperienced kids trying to be heroes somehow manages to escape from real-deal supervillains, practically unscathed, time and time again. Instead of, well, dying, these kids have survived multiple deadly attacks and back-to-back wars without a single death—one “death” was even taken back. Obviously, no one wants to see these kids meet such a fate, and not every story requires death to keep the viewers entertained. But it does show how unbelievable Mha can get.
Plot armor isn’t inherently bad, as it’s a great way to move the narrative forward. The problem with plot armor more times than not is how it is handled, like when a writer creates a convenient solution out of thin air with little setup or foreshadowing. Across the span of seven anime seasons and counting, My Hero Academia has introduced viewers to an entire industry's worth of pro heroes, with a select few being the most powerful and important, such as the symbol of peace, All Might. But the hero industry can't be made up entirely of heroes of All Might's and Endeavor's caliber. It also needs everyday pro heroes like Manual to fill in the ranks, and heroes like Manual should not be underestimated.
It's true that heroes in Manual's league could never defeat the strongest villains, nor will they ever be serious contenders for the top 10 in the Japanese pro hero charts. Still, Deku's world doesn't need everyone to be symbol of peace tier, and everyday heroes like Manual have more appeal than viewers might expect. Best of all, no matter their modest combat power, heroes like Manual still have unique gifts that shine at the right moment,...

Since its debut episode, My Hero Academia has been a relatively big deal, surrounded by a lot of hype as anime fans held out hope for it to meet its potential. Many standout characters fulfill the hype, delivering performances like All Might—who embodies that Superman-like role in a commendable way. Sadly, some characters are complete let-downs or at least don’t quite measure up to expectations, like Yaoyorozu Momo.
There are some decent characters who are hyped up more than they deliver, failing to leave a lasting impact. There are also initially interesting characters that fade into the background as the series progresses, becoming flat-out disappointments. So, among the many characters that fall short of expectations, which ones are the most overhyped?

The ending of My Hero Academia this year sparked a lot of heated discussions; however, there’s no denying that Kohei Horikoshi gave many of us the experience of a lifetime. Every hero, whether it’s a big shot like Endeavor or an underrated one like Red Riot, was given memorable scenes. The mangaka did a praiseworthy job of humanizing the villains without justifying their actions, with Dabi being the best example of it.

Speaking of memorable moments and the villains of Mha, it’s hard to not mention the highlight of Season 6. Dabi’s iconic dance put his darkness on a grand display, and no other scene even compares to the sheer brilliance and thrill of that moment. Moreover, the ode to Joker makes it even better.

When the My Hero Academia anime first launched, the narrative had a mixed to positive attitude about supernatural Quirks. Such superpowers were the gifts that pro heroes like All Might used to defend society from villainy and crime, but over time, the anime revealed the bigger picture: that Quirks had permanently affected society and individuals in destructive ways. In fact, this often led to trauma for individuals and, in the Todorokis' case, entire families at once.
Sometimes, Quirk-based trauma is an accident based on what kind of Quirk someone inherited, as Himiko Toga and Spinner would know, while other Quirk-based trauma was practically by design. Such was the case for the Todorokis, a family that suffered immense generational trauma because Enji Todoroki/Endeavor got a Quirk marriage to conceive the ultimate child. Endeavor got his wish, but in the process, he hurt many people, and only now is Endeavor coming...

A power trio is one of the most important tropes that many prominent anime and manga series implement to establish a decent power scaling within the main characters of the series. It was even used by Kohei Horikoshi for his manga, My Hero Academia, which is one of the greatest manga series of all time and recently saw its conclusion.

The following contains minor spoilers for the My Hero Academia manga.
Over the course of countless manga chapters and anime episodes, My Hero Academia fleshed out the main characters' arcs and gave them plenty of screen time so they could grow as heroes. Naturally, major characters like Deku, his shonen-style rival Katsuki Bakugo, Ochaco, and Shoto all got ample screen time, but a handful of other characters missed out. Plenty of My Hero Academia characters were just as compelling, but didn't get enough screen time by comparison.
With a few more scenes, these My Hero Academia characters could have taken part in more battles and benefitted from deeper arcs, but alas, there was no room for those extra scenes. As a result, some of these characters ended up feeling like simple archetypes or had half-baked arcs, while extra scenes could have expanded on their powers and fleshed out their backstories in a big way.

My Hero Academias Deku had one of the most divisive endings in chapter #430 of the manga series. After his intense battle against Shigaraki and All For One, Izuku sacrificed his Quirk, being forced to leave the life of a hero behind for seven years. Thanks to the help of his amazing friends, he was given a new chance to chase his dream by utilizing an advanced suit of armor that could replicate his lost abilities.
For many fans, this ending seemed to come out of nowhere, as most of the fandom imagined that he would go on to become a world-famous hero. Yet, a small detail found in chapter #357 might have hinted at this being Dekus destiny years in advance. While Kohei Horikoshi is not known for his massive use of foreshadowing like One Piece's creator Eiichiro Oda, this small hint could have been a nod to the finale...

The My Hero Academia series has some of anime's most interesting and terrifying villains. From the Symbol of Evil himself, All for One, to the radicalized Spinner, the franchise has no shortage of antagonists for the protagonists to fight against. Some of these villains even became arch enemies of a particular hero, like Shigaraki was for Deku or Dabi to his brother Shoto.
Still, there is an incredibly complex antagonist in the series who was never given a proper opponent of his own, Muscular. This imposing and bloodthirsty character could have been Bakugos perfect antagonist, as their beliefs and attitudes do not differ too much from each other. Goto could have been Katsukis final challenge, helping him prove how far he had come by the end of the manga.

My Hero Academia first introduced the #1 pro hero, the symbol of peace All Might, then introduced his greatest rival, the flaming pro hero Endeavor. As the ambitious #2 pro hero, Endeavor named himself after his determination to fight his way to the top and make it his personal mission, a lifelong endeavor to become someone incredible. Over the course of his arc, Endeavor largely succeeded, but not in the ways he expected or even liked.
Endeavor's character can be assessed on a superficial level, such as the design of his hero costume and his Hellflame Quirk, but the true essence of this character lays in who he is and the effect he has had on the people around him. That includes Endeavor's strained relationship with his wife and children, his role as an antihero mentor for My Hero Academia's young protagonists, and the ongoing question of whether Endeavor even deserves redemption...

Despite how fascinating and enjoyable the world of My Hero Academia can be, it still has many flaws that were addressed as the series progressed. From prejudices against individuals with heteromorph Quirk to discrimination against people because of villainous powers, the society created by Kohei Horikoshi draws heavy similarities to the real world.
One of the most problematic and horrifying issues shown in the series is the idea of Quirk Marriages. This taboo and frowned upon practice consisted of a wealthy family or individual buying a person to make them their spouse in the hope that their power could combine to create a powerful child. This horrid topic was not only mostly ignored by the often corrupt and uncaring Hero Society at large, but it was also completely forgotten once the ending of the series began.

My Hero Academia introduced anime fans to Shoto Todoroki, the boy who was born to be perfect. Shoto was born in a controversial Quirk marriage, an ideal blend of his father's fire-based Quirk and his mother's ice-based Quirk to create a born genius. However, Shoto couldn't stand being his father's tool and broke away to become a hero on his own, creating one of My Hero Academia's best arcs. It also helped that voice actor Yuki Kaji did an outstanding job voicing Shoto the entire time.
Mr. Kaji's fine work brought Shoto Todoroki to life in every way, from his emotionally tense muttering to shouted dialogue to his casual, carefree lines during the rare moments when Shoto feels relaxed. Any anime fan who enjoyed hearing Shoto Todoroki's lines is encouraged to check out other voice roles from Mr. Kaji and see how much he has contributed to the wider world of Japanese animation.

Many stories have at least one character that every viewer despises. Through the worst personality traits and actions, these characters just rub people the wrong way. Anime in particular has taken this character archetype and attached it to the popular theme of redemption, but not every redemption tale is so inspiring. In My Hero Academia, or Mha, the series' biggest story of atonement is complicated and has received immense pushback from numerous fans.
At a glance, Mha pits Super Heroes against Super Villains, but this story isn't as simple as good versus evil. The large cast has a wide spectrum of characters with varying moralities. One of the most important characters in driving the major morals of the story is Endeavor. As a Pro Hero, he serves as a major source of maintaining peace, but delving deeper into his character,...

Todoroki Shoto from My Hero Academia is one of the most popular anime characters, known for his dual fire-and-ice Quirk and stoic personality. A recent cosplay posted on Reddit has taken this iconic character's look and transformed it into a stunning, female version. Gender-bent cosplays, where characters are re-imagined as another gender, are an amazing creative outlet for cosplayers to show their own versions of their favorite characters.

Its been a little over a month since the My Hero Academia manga ended, and plenty of commentary around the conclusion of the story has sparked already. At the end of the story, there is an 8-year time-skip in which we see most of former class 1-a students now working as pro heroes. The only one kept from that life seems to be Izuku Midoriya, who is now a teacher at UA High, having lost his One for All quirk during the final battle.
The one who saved Izuku from a potentially unexciting life as a teacher was none other than his childhood friend who had already saved him plenty of times before: Katsuki Bakugo. In a collective effort along with the rest of Class 1-a, and All Might, Bakugo managed to finance the development of a hero suit that would allow Izuku to perform as a hero again. The...

My Hero Academia is a fantastic anime and manga that has captured the hearts of many fans. These budding heroes aiming for greatness are easy to root for, and we celebrate their successes. Of those fledgling heroes, Shoto Todoroki has become a fan favorite, starting with only controlling ice but gaining the courage to use his fiery talents thanks to Izuku's advice.
In another world, Shoto would have remained much the same. Though his family specialized in both Fire- and Ice-type Pokmon, Shoto would have leaned towards Ice-types for a time due to an incident with his parents. Over time, though, a trainer hoping to become a Pokmon Master like his hero would help change Shoto's point of view, convincing him to become a type-specialist of both Ice- and Fire-type Pokmon.

Over the course of seven anime seasons and counting in My Hero Academia, Shoto Todoroki has been growing as a truly gifted and motivated student hero. He was born to be genetically perfect and coasted on his powerful Half Cold Half Hot Quirk, only to push himself and go Plus Ultra in his quest to become an incredible pro hero. By now, My Hero Academia fans can confidently say that Shoto is at the top of his game in My Hero Academia, and few villains or criminals can threaten him in that anime world.

Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia: You're Next
My Hero Academia: You're Next featured a solid romance subplot surrounding its original characters Giulio and Anna, but even their climactic moment at the end of the film couldn't top one scene from the film's middle in the heartbreak department. That scene, of course, had to do with Shoto Todoroki and his relationship with his family.
In the film's climax, Giulio attempts to stop Anna's Quirk from raging out of control, even though he's now unable to use his own Quirk after losing his right hand. Giulio climbs a mass of thorny vines in a last-ditch attempt to get closer to Anna, and out of sheer desperation, winds up touching her with his left hand in the hopes that something might happen. Surprisingly, something does happen, as Giulio is revealed to be compatible with Anna's Quirk, and has his own Quirk empowered,...

My Hero Academia's Dabi is one of the series' most complex, multifaceted villains with perhaps the most devastating origin story. The sad and gruesome family circumstances he came from set him apart from the other League of Villains members, explaining how he got his horrifically painful injuries. There is more to Dabi than meets the eye, and he is the very definition of a tragic villain.
u/sam_mills on Reddit has cosplayed Dabi perfectly, depicting his true appearance. Usually, Dabi is pictured with dyed black hair, obscuring his real identity as Toya Todoroki, brother of Shoto Todoroki and child of the Pro Hero, Endeavor. Dabi's childhood was traumatizing, so he was eager to move past that hard time in his life by dying his hair black and joining the League of Villains. But in season 6, he revealed where he came from and the family he was a part of.

My Hero Academia: You're Next is the latest movie in the My Hero Academia franchise. Typically, My Hero Academia movies (of which this is the fourth) are set during the season of the anime in which they're released, and that's true here as well.
Due to a number of clues, it's possible to pin down exactly when the movie is set, even without resorting to spoilers. These clues are found both in the movie itself as well as the anime series. Since season 7 of the anime has largely been focused on the final confrontation between the heroes and villains, it's obvious that the incident depicted in the movie takes place just before that conflict goes down, but what's less apparent is just how close the events of the movie are to the final battle seen in the series.

Under director Tensai Okamura’s skilled guidance, this fourth film faces our young Class 1-a heroes against a threat seeking to claim All Might’s mantle of peace in all the wrong ways.

Warning: Spoilers for My Hero Academia episode #157
My Hero Academia anime season 7, episode 19 shows the climax of the Todoroki family and Dabi's storyline, specifically the villain's last resort to get his revenge on Endeavor, and the reunion with the rest of his family.
