2025 sees two Disney live-action remakes hit theaters, Snow White and Lilo & Stitch. It also means it has been 15 years since Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland kicked off this trend that has dominated the box office despite audiences and critics deriving it. For a decade now, audiences have seen films from Disney's classic era(Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Pinocchio) and Renaissance get the live-action treatment to mixed results. However, right at the cusp of this Disney remake era, an ABC series put its own unique spin on many of Disney's classic canon and did it better than most of the live-action films that had triple the budget. We are, of course, talking about Once Upon a Time.
Once Upon a Time debuted on ABC in October 2011, a little over a year after Alice in Wonderland, and concluded in May 2018, between the $1 billion releases of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Since then,...

In the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to address one Defenders Saga mystery that I never thought would be mentioned in the MCU after Daredevil's cancelation. In early 2024, Marvel confirmed that the Defenders Saga, which originally comprised six Marvel Television shows released on Netflix between 2015 and 2019, is officially canon to the MCU. This made me very excited, as it meant that the new Daredevil: Born Again series could resolve some of Daredevil's most annoying loose ends.
Much of the original cast of Daredevil has already been confirmed to be returning in Marvel Studios' upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, including Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Wilson Bethel, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and more. With the series expected to pick up a number of years after Daredevil season 3's finale, however, I'm very interested to see how these characters and stories have changed. Daredevil: Born Again...

THR reports that Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations to join the cast of J.J. Abrams’s new mystery feature. As expected, there are no details on who Jackson might play in the movie, only that it will be a “key role.“
The film will star Glen Powell (The Running Man), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Emma MacKay (Sex Education). Plot details are naturally being kept under wraps. It was previously speculated that the film would involve time travel, but sources have said that’s not the case. The project is expected to kick off production in the spring in the UK with Abrams directing from a script he wrote. He will also produce through his Bad Robot banner. This will mark Abrams’s first feature film since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which was released in 2019.

The cast of Abigail elevates the movie's unique hybrid of a heist film and a horror movie, with strong performances from the ensemble. Abigail focuses on a group of criminals and killers who find themselves tasked with kidnapping the daughter of a powerful and wealthy man. While they're initially scared of repercussions coming from the hands of her father, the group soon realizes the full extent of the danger they're in when they realize that the young Abigail isn't what she seems.
Abigail is an impressive critical success with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%, and despite its lukewarm box office, Abigail's streaming success has given it new life. The gory horror film is a great blend of horror, comedy, and action, all building to one of the bloodiest (and most satisfying) climaxes of the year so far. Bolstering it all is a cast of seasoned pros and younger faces, including horror stars like Melissa Barrera.

Over the Garden Wall was Cartoon Network's first miniseries and remains one of its most beloved and creative intellectual properties. It follows two brothers, Wirt (Elijah Wood) and Greg (Collin Dean), who become lost in a mysterious forest called the Unknown. Accompanied by a talking bluebird named Beatrice (Melanie Lynskey), they attempt to find their way home while avoiding a menacing creature known only as The Beast (Samuel Ramey).

Exclusive: Before filming got underway last month on action film The Beast, Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) came aboard as director, taking over from the previously announced James Madigan (The Meg second unit director).
The team is halfway through an eight-week shoot in Madrid and Spain’s Canary Islands. As we previously revealed, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) and Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer) are starring.
The project had been due to start in early September but was pushed back a little due to LED stages needing further tech prep, we’re told. No reason was given for Madigan’s exit.
The film’s title refers to a presidential limousine nicknamed “The Beast” by the Secret Service. In the movie, when a militia of unidentified hostiles coordinates a coup against the U.S., the president (Jackson) uncovers the extent of The Beast’s highly classified offensive capabilities.

The First Omen is the latest sequel to a long-standing horror franchise, following the example of other series like Halloween or The Exorcist that have received modern reinventions and expansions. Directed by Arkasha Stevenson, 2024's The First Omen is directly connected to the series and serves as a prequel to the original The Omen. The First Omen's ending leads straight to the events of the first film in the series and serves as an unexpected explanation of Damien Thorn's birth parents.
In the process, The First Omen quietly makes a lot of changes to the lore established in the original 1976 film, The Omen. This includes retconning Damien's mother and the circumstances of his birth, as well as introducing a new wrinkle in the form of a twin sister. The First Omen also steadily reveals the surprising group that's behind the events of the series, and why they worked to create the Antichrist.

Disney continues to expand the stories of already introduced characters, and its latest announcement is a movie about Cinderellas Prince Charming, but theres another prince who deserves his own movie more than him. Parallel to its ongoing trend of live-action remakes of its animated classics, Disney has been picking characters from its animated movies to expand on their stories in their solo movies. Disney has mostly done so with villains so far, such as Cruella and Maleficent, but now a prince is getting his big chance.
A movie about Cinderellas Prince Charming has been announced to be in development. Paul King is in charge of directing the project, which is said not to tie into the tale that made Prince Charming known. At the time of writing, no more details about the plot, the format, and the cast have been revealed, so there are a lot of questions about the project.

The Gaston and LeFou prequel series with Luke Evans and Josh Gad is sadly not moving forward. Evans does not explain why the prequel series was scrapped. Had the series been greenlit, potential challenges included narrative pitfalls and engaging unlikable lead characters.
Beauty and the Beast star Luke Evans provides a disappointing update on the Gaston and LeFou prequel series. Evans and Josh Gad had previously signed on to reprise their respective roles as Gaston and LeFou from Disney's 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast for a Disney+ series set before the movie's events. Once Upon A Time showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis and legendary composer Alan Menken were involved in the development of the project.
While speaking with Out magazine, Evans has now revealed that the Beauty and the Beast prequel series is "sadlynot on the table." He did not go into further detail on why the Disney+ series is no longer moving forward,...

Doctor Who's new era features a pantheon of gods, with Sutekh revealed as the powerful God of Death. Russell T Davies explored the concept of gods in his original Doctor Who era by introducing The Beast. The Beast and Sutekh share similarities and connections, hinting at a possible return for the former.
The new era of Doctor Who has seen Russell T Davies return to the series as showrunner, and has pitted David Tennant's and Ncuti Gatwa's incarnations of the Doctor against a pantheon of gods. The three 60th anniversary specials that kicked off this new era introduced the concept of enemies from beyond the universe in "Wild Blue Yonder" and built on this with the return of the godlike Toymaker in "The Giggle." Disney’s live-action movies excel when it comes to lighthearted teenage dramas and musicals, which is why it was the best medium for the continuation of their most popular IPs, the lore of the princesses. Unlike the live-action adaptations of the princess movies, the Descendants franchise, which focuses on the adventures of the children of classic Disney princess characters, has been received quite positively. However, the focus remains primarily on the children of the villainous characters, as the key running motif in the three movies released so far is to highlight the familiar resolution that children shouldn’t be burdened with the sins of their parents; they have their own identity, which shouldn’t be generalized as such. While the campy narratives, funky characterization, and out-of-date humor might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the strong social messages conveyed by each of the movies have a lasting impact on children and adults alike.

Opening with an actress screaming at an invisible attacker while filming a green-screen scene, The Beast immediately reveals its primary ideas: the eeriness of technological advancement, a feeling of deep anguish at a terror that isn’t really there, and the interaction between the two. Bertrand Bonello’s sci-fi — in which two people, Gabrielle (Léa Seydoux) and Louis (George MacKay), meet in different eras — is an extraordinary excavation of the role technology plays in causing emotional mayhem, and a clarion call to those who would use it as a stand-in during daily human life.
If that sounds complicated, then buckle up: with three timelines and endless recurring symbolism, The Beast is, well, a bit of a beast. We begin in 1910, where Gabrielle is a musician; in 2014, she’s a model and actor house-sitting in Los Angeles; in 2044, she is considering “purifying” her DNA in an attempt to get a job in an AI-riddled society.

The internet is still whirring after that explosive first episode of the three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, with the return of David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and his beloved ex-companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate).
There was certainly a lot to take in: “The Star Beast” saw an alien spaceship crash-landing in London, the arrival of the adorably fluffy Meep and sinister, bug-eyed Wrarth Warriors, the return of Unit (the international intelligence taskforce that investigates alien activity), and the very real threat that if Donna remembers who The Doctor is, she’ll die.
We also met Donna’s family, including her husband Shaun and daughter Rose, whom we eventually learn has genetically absorbed some of the metacrisis that threatened Donna’s life, subconsciously giving her some of The Doctor and Donna’s memories.

While fall is evidenced to some by changing leaves or an uptick in pumpkin spice menu items, for animation fans, including Guillermo del Toro, the season's synonymous with Cartoon Network's Over the Garden Wall.
The award-winning director of The Shape of Water responded in exclamatory excitement to news of the animated miniseries' upcoming seasonal rerun on Cartoon Network, dubbing the fall favorite both "beautiful" and "a tremendous tale". Del Toro continued in his enthusiasm for the series, reposting fanart of Tim Curry's bell-ringing matriarch Auntie Whispers later in the day. The director of haunting fodder such as Cronos, Crimson Peak and a forthcoming adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein understands more than most what it takes for a work to become intrinsically married to fall.

The '80s was a pretty scary time to be a kid. Over in the United Kingdom, we were routinely terrified by grim public information films and even educational content like "Dark Towers" and "The Boy From Space" were pretty hair-raising for a class full of eight-year-olds at the time. Then you had "Watership Down," a tale of bunny brutality that inexplicably received a U (Universal) certificate and scarred an entire generation for life.
Unlike the United States, we didn't get our 12 certificate (the British equivalent of the PG-13) until 1989, which meant big Hollywood movies like "Gremlins" and "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" were still available to rent with the family-friendly PG rating. As a result, many impressionable '80s kids were traumatized by nasty little creatures trashing Christmas and a cult leader ripping out someone's still-beating heart well before they were equipped to deal with such stuff.

In the era of reality television and social media, it seems easier than ever before for everyone and anyone to have 15 minutes of fame.
It was a curiosity about this idea of accessible celebrity that inspired three Melbourne-based filmmakers — David Elliot-Jones, Lachlan Mcleod and Louis Dai — to head to Japan, where foreigners often score stardom.
Now in post, the trio's documentary Big In Japan explores what fame is like for an ordinary person, and the motivations behind those who want to become famous.
The three co-directors, who operate under the umbrella Walking Fish Productions, made their first film back in 2012: an interactive doco for Sbs, Convenient Education..Armed with enough money for new equipment, they then moved to Japan for two years to begin their next project..

Antonio Inoki is perhaps the most famous Japanese professional wrestler of all time. Inoki started his career in 1960, when he was only 17. He would later found New Japan Pro Wrestling in 1972 — arguably the most successful Japanese promotion there is. Furthermore, Inoki famously battled boxing legend Muhammad Ali in a lackluster contest in 1976 — a battle that would be a spiritual precursor to the sport of mixed martial arts.
On August 4th, 1995, Inoki — along with his New Japan Pro Wrestling promotion and a handful of World Championship Wrestling stars — held a historic event in Pyongyang, North Korea. The infamously sheltered and closed-off country played home to a historic two day wrestling spectacle that was later broadcast on American pay-per-view, courtesy of WCW.
Now, nearly two decades later, Inoki has returned to Pyongyang to deliver an equally historic sporting event. North Korea’s relations with Japan are notoriously poor, and...

Current Tna World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley is returning to the cage!
Bobby Lashley, one-time WWE superstar and current Tna World Heavyweight Champion (where he wrestles under just his last name, Lashley), has signed on with Bellator Mma, now headed by Lashley’s old Strikeforce boss Scott Coker, and will make his promotional debut this September 5th Connecticut.
Once linked to the Wsof, Lashley never appeared for that organization, and fought most recently in independent promotions Xfn (winning their heavyweight title) and Gwc. Lashley is also a Shark Fights champion. Since joining Tna Wrestling on Spike, speculation has been rampant that Lashley would also join Bellator and work under both promotions, just as fellow fighters King Mo and Rampage Jackson have done (though neither have been used much at all by Tna).
Though his career in Mma has failed to reach the level of success that Brock Lesnar...

Professional wrestling and mixed martial arts have been somewhat married since their inceptions. As legit pro wrestling gave way to scripted pro wrestling, the same tactics and training techniques stuck around for decades. The likes of Billy Robinson, Judo Gene LeBell and Stu Hart transitioned their shoot wrestling abilities and parlayed them into success in pro wrestling.
Worked fights continued all the way up through the 1990s, but as the Ufc emerged, it became much easier to decipher a work from a shoot. That hasn’t stopped the two worlds from intersecting, as the likes of Ken Shamrock, Brock Lesnar, Dan Severn, Bob Sapp and several others have managed success in both Mma and pro wrestling.
Not every pro wrestling crossover has had the same level of success as the aforementioned stars, though. Some pro wrestlers that transitioned into the cage quite frankly had no business being involved with the sport,...

The blokes who flex their muscles in Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts events are mostly a larger-than-life blend of showmanship and brawn – which explains why they’re increasingly being snapped up by Hollywood. With more and more Mma fighters moving into the movies, I thought I’d take a look at some of the biggest names to have made the crossover.
Tony Schiena
Winner of numerous Mma trophies around the globe, Schiena flexed his acting chops in Locked Down as a framed cop who winds up in jail and is forced into cage fighting by none other than Brit hardman turned thesp Vinnie Jones. Schiena retired from sport after breaking both his ankles (ouch!) but has since found his feet on the big screen working with everyone from Pacino to Van Damme.

Former Ufc Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir has revealed that he would be open to an offer from Vince McMahon to come to the WWE, amidst rumours that he was intrigued by the idea after Brock Lesnar’s recent $5 million limited contract deal.
Speaking to the Chronicle Journal, Mir admitted he couldn’t rule out a move to Pro Wrestling;
“Not opposed to the idea,” Mir said. “I can’t do a back flip or anything.”
There have been rumours over the past few weeks that other Ufc stars are interested in coming to WWE for a similar “big money Lesnar offer”. Roy Nelson and Tito Ortiz both publically expressed their interest in a move to pro wrestling if the money was right and now Mir, although not exactly as blatant as others, is perhaps making a subtle oveture for McMahon to make him an offer.
