I find myself on Apple TV+ a lot these days, and while most people think of the streamer for its high-quality TV shows, it’s actually been making a serious play for your movie nights, too. Apple TV+ has been stacking its lineup with a mix of big-name projects and under-the-radar films that are actually pretty good - including the recent action-comedy “Wolfs,” starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The selection isn’t as deep as some other streamers, but what’s there is worth a watch. If you’re looking for something new to check out, here are the top 7 movies streaming on Apple TV+ right now.

Nicole Kidman has said that she wants to work with Martin Scorsese "if he does a film with women," indicating the requirements for working with the director. Kidman is an esteemed actor, holding four Oscar nominations and one win, with a total of 110 awards won and 331 nominations since her career began in 1983. Similarly decorated, Scorsese's best movies include classics like Goodfellas and Casino, alongside some of his newer movies, like The Irishman and Killers of the Flower Moon. Both have important places in film history because of their creative contributions.
However, speaking with Vanity Fair, Kidman listed Scosese as one of the people in Hollywood who she hasn't collaborated with, but that she would like to work with. However, she specified that she would want to work with him "if he does a film with women," indicative of how most of his movies include male leads and a focus on male characters overall.

Lily Gladstone may be most famous for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, but she also had a significant role in Reservation Dogs. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston will team up with Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone for Lone Wolf, a new action thriller. Cranston remains best known for his role as anti-hero Walter White in the acclaimed AMC drama Breaking Bad, which concluded in 2013. Gladstone, meanwhile, had her breakout last year with Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, which earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.
Deadline now reports that Cranston and Gladstone will star together in Lone Wolf, an action-thriller to be directed by Mark Pellington (Arlington Road). Tom Chilcoat wrote the script for the film, which will feature Gladstone as a troubled combat veteran recruited by Cranston's contractor character for a covert plot to assassinate a politician. After realizing that it was a set-up, Gladstone's character must take on shadow agents in order to protect her son. Pellington describes the film as a "character-based thriller.

The only other Native American person nominated in any acting category was August Schellenberg, who received an Emmy nomination in 2007 for his performance as Sitting Bull in the HBO television movie “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee.”

In a recent interview, the actress compared the event to the Squid Game.
“The meeting people is the fun part of it,” Gladstone said on The Kelly Clarkson Show recently after the show’s host asked her if she enjoyed award shows. “I describe the Globes as a little bit of the Squid Game.”
She continued, “The reality is, you’re in shapewear, you need to pee, you have commercial breaks, and that’s the only time that you’re able to do it. Lily Gladstone has no hurt feelings about having lost to Emma Stone at the 96th Academy Awards. In fact, Gladstone says the two agree they shouldn’t have been pitted against each other.
“Emma and I talked about it, and had wonderful conversations about how ridiculous it is to place art in competition,” she tells Variety while discussing her current Emmys campaign for “Under the Bridge.” “Awards are supposed to be giving accolades to the art no matter what. It’s like you’re awarding just by acknowledging and nominating, really, but then this competitive nature takes over. How does that work in something so subjective and personal as art?”
There’s a consensus among pundits that Gladstone would have been more likely to win an Oscar if she’d campaigned as a supporting actress instead of in the lead category. Playing Mollie Burkhart, she appeared in just 56 minutes of “Killers of the Flower Moon,...

When the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative released a report surveying film roles for Native Americans last October, of the 100 highest-grossing theatrical movies released between 2007 and 2022, only one had an Indigenous performer in a lead role. Yet when speaking to Native creatives and performers, there is an overwhelming sense of optimism for what’s to come for their representation in entertainment. “I feel very hopeful about where we are,” Jana Schmieding, who recently starred on “Reservation Dogs,” tells Variety. “I want to think that studios see the value in our storytelling.”
Variety’s inaugural Indigenous Storytelling in Entertainment Breakfast, which will take place June 5 in Los Angeles, will focus on both the value and future of such stories. The invite-only breakfast program will feature a series of keynote and panel conversations with creators, talent and executives that will center on Indigenous storytelling and spotlight the achievements of its communities in film and TV.

Lily Gladstone did not win the Oscar for Best Actress, but that loss, Gladstone says, is "irrelevant." The impact of Killers of the Flower Moon went beyond awards, receiving a day dedicated by her tribe. Gladstone was moved by the outpouring of support from her tribe, showing appreciation for her work in filmmaking.
Lily Gladstone made history with her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. She was the first Native American to win the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Drama and be nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. The Oscar would go to Emma Stone for her portrayal of Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, but that loss, Gladstone says, is "irrelevant."
During a recent conversation with Empire, Gladstone spoke about the film's impact and said that "nobody was upset" that she didn't take home the Oscar.

In Martin Scorsese’s The Killers of the Flower Moon, Native American actress Lily Gladstone portrayed Mollie Burkhart, the wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in the movie. Molly went through Hell in the movie as her husband and his corrupt friends wanted to take what was not theirs for themselves. Her performance in the movie was lauded by fans and critics, and she was the favorite to win an Oscar in the main actress category. And while Gladstone ultimately lost out to Emma Stone, whose performance in Poor Things was absolutely majestic, the Oscar loss did not hold her back in any way.

Martin Scorsese’s epic Killers of the Flower Moon shined a light on one of the lesser-known dark chapters of American history – the wholesale slaughter of dozens of members of the Osage Indian Nation by their supposed guardians, neighbors and friends. A dramatic gut-punch of a film, it was adapted by Scorsese and Eric Roth from the 2017 David Grann book of the same name. The book took about five years to research, and the film took just as long to arrive on the big screen, with both taking great pains to authentically communicate the tragic nature of the Osage murders. While the film obviously takes a handful of liberties necessary to dramatize Grann’s book, by all accounts it’s an incredibly faithful telling of the story, accurately recreating the book’s major events as realistically as possible. Let’s take a look at What Really Happened to Killers of the Flower Moon.

Blackout.I had saved my question about Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) until the last possible minute. Larry Fessenden, a disarmingly amiable man with an edge to his self-deprecating humor I recognized only too well, has a new werewolf movie out. If you know Larry’s movies—No Telling (1991), Habit (1995), Wendigo (2001), The Last Winter (2006), Beneath (2013), Depraved (2019), and now Blackout (2023)—you know it’s never just a matter of a monster. As we dug into its story of a lycanthropic curse doubling as a metaphor for an artist’s alcoholism and a town’s despair at a recent solar eclipse, I could see Larry the filmmaker turn into Larry the eager, devoted student and fan under the half-light of the black sun.Fessenden appears in the final minutes of Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), like a harbinger of the future’s unforgiving gaze, as an actor on the mid-century...

Lily Gladstone’s loss at the Oscars last night prompts a response from fans. Gladstone was nominated for Best Actress for her work playing Mollie Burkhart in the Martin Scorsese film Killers of the Flower Moon. If she had won the award, she would have been the first Native American person to do so in the category. Instead, Best Actress went to Emma Stone for playing Bella Baxter in Poor Things.
Following the announcement of this award, viewers take to social media to react to the loss. Check out some of the responses below:

The 2024 Oscars are done and dusted, leaving us with the winners for this year. While few lucky ones will be able to call the night a success thanks to their victories, many others walked out of the event empty-handed and with aching hearts. Oppenheimer won big at the award ceremony, taking home several prestigious awards, including Best Picture. However, Oppenheimer’s victory comes at the expense of another incredible film, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated in ten categories at the Oscars, but luck was not on its side as the film didn’t win a single award. Needless to say, fans are extremely disappointed with the outcome as they believe the film deserved to emerge victorious, at least in a couple of categories, especially Best Actress.

This year’s Oscars race was especially the toughest for the Best Actress in a Leading Role category, among others. With some of the most exceptionally talented actresses nominated, including Emma Stone, Lily Gladstone, Sandra Hüller, Carey Mulligan, and Annette Bening, every single one of them deserved this honor.

But the Academy eventually ended up choosing Stone as the winner, and Gladstone was inevitably snubbed from what would have been her first-ever Academy Award for one of the best performances of her life in Killers of the Flower Moon. However, The Amazing Spider-Man actress made sure to acknowledge Gladstone even in a time like that.

The 2024 Oscars came down to one final acting race as the category of Lead Actress arrived just before Best Picture was presented. The highly-anticipated category unveiled that Emma Stone was the winner for her performance in Poor Things. The win marks Emma’s second after her 2017 victory in the category for the film La La Land in which she starred alongside Barbie‘s Ryan Gosling. When it came down to the race in that category, Lily Gladstone was a favored candidate to win for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon. A first-time nominee, Gladstone would have been the first Native American to win in any acting category, achieving a major milestone with her performance as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese‘s epic film chronicling the Osage murders in Oklahoma. Ultimately, that wasn’t the case as fans took to social media to weigh in on the outcome. See...

Los Angeles, March 10 (Ians) ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ star Lily Gladstone, who’s a huge fan of Cate Blanchett, recently told ‘People’ magazine that she was disappointed when her “ultimate actress” did not win the Academy Award for her role as Elizabeth I in Shekhar Kapur’s 1998 biographical period drama, says The Hollywood Reporter.
“I have idolised Cate Blanchett since I was a teenager. When … she was up for ‘Elizabeth’ at the Oscars and didn’t win, I remember just being really, really upset about that,” this year’s Best Actress Oscar nominee said to ‘People’. “She is my ultimate actress. I think she is the great talent of this generation.”
At the 71st Academy Awards, Blanchett was nominated alongside Fernanda Montenegro, Meryl Streep, Emily Watson and Gwyneth Paltrow, who ultimately won the Oscar for ‘Shakespeare in Love’, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

Lily Gladstone has already made history. When the Piegan Blackfeet and Nez Perce actor received an Oscar nomination for their searing performance in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” on January 23, she became the first Native American actor to receive a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars, and the second Native American performer to receive an Oscar nomination overall, after Chief Dan George’s Supporting Actor Nomination for 1970’s “Little Big Man.”
Should Gladstone win the award, it would make them the first Native American performer to ever win an acting Oscar — an incredible achievement, albeit not one that erases the Oscars’ troubled history with Indigenous people. But regardless of what happens, Gladstone’s incredible work in the film as Mollie Burkhart, a real life Osage woman in the 1920s whose husband Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio) was a conspirator in a series of mass murders of her people — stands...

Indigenous stories aren’t always told with the care, nuance and authenticity they deserve in Hollywood, and, more often than not, their stories aren’t told at all.
While “Killers of the Flower Moon” has certainly prompted discourse within indigenous communities about who should tell what stories, the Osage Nation Congress has unanimously endorsed the creative contributions that Lily Gladstone and Scott George made to the film. The tribal governing body recently passed bills expressing support for their roles in Martin Scorsese’s historical epic. Signed by all 12 members of the legislative branch, the bills became law on Feb. 2.
Scorsese’s film is based on the murdering spree that targeted Oklahoma’s Osage Nation in the early 20th century, which was executed with the intention of stealing the community’s oil wealth. Gladstone and George are nominated for Academy Awards for best actress and best original song, respectively. Starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio,...

The 96th Academy Awards are just around the corner and we just cannot wait to find out who will take the trophies home. While the audience does have an idea after having watched other award shows recently, the Oscars can always be a bit of a gamble. Undoubtedly, Cillian Murphy is a fan-favorite contender amongst those in the race to win the Best Actor award.

And now, chances are that Bradley Cooper will once again lose to Cillian Murphy at the 2024 Oscars if the predictions are true.

Only 18% of top films in 2023 had more women in speaking roles than men, highlighting gender disparity in Hollywood. Despite the success of Barbie, the film industry still has a long way to go in portraying women on screen. Female protagonists in films decreased from 33% to 28% in 2023, showing a need for more representation and recognition.
A new study reveals how many speaking roles women were given in 2023. For years, women have fought for their role in movies both in front of and behind the screen. This is particularly prominent in roles like directing, for a woman did not win Best Director at the Oscars until Kathryn Bigelow for her 2010 film The Hurt Locker.
As per a study from Dr. Martha Lauzen (via Variety), the status of women on screen in 2023 has been revealed. According to the findings, only 18% of the top 100 grossing films last year had more women than men in speaking roles.

Lily Gladstone, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, is a trailblazing Native American actress whose breakout performance in Martin Scorsese’s film Killers of the Flower Moon, as an Osage woman named Mollie Burkhart whose oil wealth made her a target of white men during what is known as the “Reign of Terror,” has made her a bona-fide star. Indeed, she has already won the best actress in a motion picture drama Golden Globe Award and the best actress National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle and SAG awards; she was nominated for the best actress Critics Choice Award; and she is nominated, in a first for an Indigenous American, for the best actress Academy Award.

Just 30 minutes after final voting for the Screen Actors Guild Awards wrapped up, I made a last-minute switch in my best actress prediction — from Lily Gladstone in “Killers of the Flower Moon” to Emma Stone in “Poor Things.” Let this be a lesson: Second-guessing yourself is seldom a good idea.
Lily Gladstone made history as the first Native American and Indigenous person to clinch an individual SAG Award for her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman, in Martin Scorsese’s gripping crime saga. With a lead actress (drama) Golden Globe and a SAG Award now under her belt, Gladstone’s award-season momentum continues to be formidable. Historically, only seven performers have failed to win the Oscar after winning the unique combination of Globe and SAG:

The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were filled with memorable moments, from humorous to heartfelt ones. Authenticity was top of mind when Martin Scorsese and his team set about creating the world of “Killers of the Flower Moon.” The Oscar-nominated film, which is in contention for Best Picture, Director, Actress, Cinematography, Film Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Original Score and Original Song at the Academy Awards, aims to capture the tragic true story of the murders of several Osage in 1921 Oklahoma, and the film’s design team went to great lengths to do service to the tale at hand.

Cinema may have suffered a few rough patches in recent years, but Martin Scorsese has faith it will pull through.
Speaking to Deadline, Scorsese, who will receive the coveted Golden Bear award at this year's Berlin International Film Festival, weighed in on the state of moviemaking amidst both strong theatrical releases and notable box office bombs in 2023. The legendary filmmaker, however, described himself as "not fearful for the future of filmmaking. The tools of filmmaking have become much more affordable for young people. “Killers of the Flower Moon” star Lily Gladstone embraces her monumental responsibility as an Oscar nominee, utilizing her platform to advocate for the Indigenous community and hoping to pave the way for more actors like herself.
During a panel conversation at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Virtuosos Awards, Gladstone — of Siksikaitsitapi and Niimiipuu heritage — addressed the harmful depictions and references to Indians in media, notably mentioning the Kansas City Chiefs the day before their Super Bowl win.
“Honestly, you could hold both teams accountable,” Gladstone tells Variety. “The 49ers are based on the California Gold Rush, which was an incredibly brutal time for California Indians. And then the Chiefs. There are many ways that you could interpret the name ‘chief.’ It’s not just the name that bothers me. It’s hearing that damn Tomahawk chop. Every time, it’s a stark reminder of what Hollywood has done to us,...

On Saturday night, when Martin Scorsese collected a gold medallion—the honor given by the DGA to all five of its Feature Film nominees—he thanked his cast and crew and Apple for their support in making Killers of the Flower Moon, but he emphasized his thanks to the Osage Nation for their intrinsic role in the making of the film and its success.
“Primarily I have to reach out and thank the Osage Nation themselves,” he said. “I went out there right before Covid hit, only a couple of times, and got to know them a bit, and I realized I had to change the whole script… Without the Osage, without them in front of the camera, and I gotta tell you, behind the camera, and around us all the time, this certainly would not be the picture you see today.”
Incredibly, this is Scorsese’s 13th special medallion...

This interview has been lightly updated to reflect Lily Gladstone’s recent Best Actress nomination.
Lily Gladstone thrives on the unexpected. For instance, she’ll happily answer the usual questions — like, oh, what was it like working with iconic Hollywood actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro on Martin Scorsese’s lauded “Killers of the Flower Moon”? — but she’ll really light up when you ask her something a little different. More like, what was it like working with so many fellow Native and Indigenous talents on that same film?
“It is incredible to have had [that experience] on ‘Reservation Dogs,’ it’s incredible to have had it on ‘Fancy Dance,’” she said during a November interview with IndieWire. “It was...
