Streaming has given many films a second chance, especially those that didn't make a profit at the box office or didn't get a release at all. Laura Dern's crime drama is among them.
In 2018, Dern starred in Blood Diamonds' Edward Zwick's biographical crime drama Trial by Fire, which was recently released on Netflix. The film was based on Cameron Todd Willingham's real-life case, and used David Grann's 2009 The New York Times article "Trial by Fire" as a base. Now, the movie has found a second life on streaming and has become a hit on Netflix, Tudum reports.

Stephen King is a horror genre staple, and he often recommends TV shows or movies that he enjoys. He's best known for iconic horror novels such as The Shining and It, and has remained in the public spotlight for his books and adaptations of his work. Stephen King even has another book on the way, continuing a legacy that has scared readers for decades.
Because of his reputation in the horror genre, many trust his recommendations for different works, whether they be novels, TV shows, or even films. The genres of his recommendations often vary, but horror still seems to be the most consistent. Though many of King's books could still use sequels, his recommended shows such as Cabinet of Curiosities and Midnight Mass will have to do in the meantime.

"Mad Men" has often sparked positive headlines for its compelling, often-inspiring storylines around its female characters like Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) and Joan (Christina Hendricks), but it's never gotten the same praise for the handling of its queer characters. There's a good reason for that: although characters like Sal (Bryan Batt) and Bob Benson (James Wolk) are interesting and well-written, their stories are pretty depressing. Bob never finds love over the course of the series, and Joan's lesbian friend in season 1 has her attempt to come out of the closet politely declined.
The only happy queer characters throughout the series are Kurt (Edin Gali), a minor European character who gives Peggy a cool haircut, and Joyce (Zosia Mamet), Peggy's openly lesbian friend in season 4 -- but both of these characters play minor roles. The most prominent gay character in "Mad Men" is Salvatore Romano, and things don't go well for him.

Quick Links Was the Evil Series Finale Rushed? Evil Left Some Doors Open for a Fifth Season
Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Evil After four seasons, the supernatural crime drama Evil came to a close this past August with a series finale that left fans wanting more. Often praised for its creative uniqueness among television shows, Evil deftly combined an exploration of faith and possession with the inherent evil that exists in the choices of man. The series' cancelation was announced in February, with Paramount+ announcing that the creators would be given just four additional episodes to wrap up the series. While fans may be disappointed with the strings left untied, this uncertain representation of finality is a rough though worthwhile ending to the series that speaks to the lingering question of what creates evil.

Evil is, far and away, one of the best shows to emerge in the 21st century to date. With the series, creators and executive producers Robert and Michelle King have successfully combined an intriguing overall narrative with case-of-the-week episodes, like The X-Files before it, but with demons. Evil can be horrifying, suspenseful, and witty at any one time. The protagonists Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), David Acosta (Mike Colter), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) form a strong team that maintains a balance, people we as viewers can get behind back in Season 1). Michael Emerson's Leland is a great, unconventional villain, a vile, charming, and darkly funny antagonist.

“There’s a way Kristen and David can have their cake and eat it, too,” Katja Herbers teases of her and Mike Colter’s characters in Evil Season 3 following that kiss. The Season 2 finale ended with Kristen Bouchard going to the newly ordained David Acosta and confessing to the murder of serial killer Orson LeRoux (Darren Pettie), who had been a threat to her family. After that intimate moment came another, with the two sharing a kiss. But he’s a priest, and she’s married. “I really love that scene. I think they really do love each other and there’s nobody else who knows this and he accepted her in her darkest moment, with all her ugliness and her sins laid bare,” Herbers tells TV Insider. “That transitioned into the kiss, [which] I thought was very beautiful.” However, they’re now facing the problem of “now what?” she continues.

“I saw that your serial killer’s dead,” Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) informs partner Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) in an early scene in the opening episode of Evil season 2. “Is there anything I should be worried about there?” The first thing he learns is not to be concerned about any possessive feelings Kristen may harbor towards Orson LeRoux (Darren Pettie), the man Ben says was “bludgeoned.” And while the audience is already pretty sure what happened, that’s about all he gets.
Evil fans deliciously tortured themselves with lingering questions over the death of Orson ever since Kristen took off into the night with a sharp climbing tool and no mountain in sight. They deepened after she dabbed a drop of blood off her leg, and scarred the flesh of her palm with a touch of a crucifix. But the circumstantial evidence seemed too obvious to be true.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the Season 2 premiere of “Evil,” streaming now on Paramount Plus.
The Season 1 finale of “Evil” — when it aired all the way back in Jan. 2020 — ended on quite the cliffhanger: It appeared that Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) had murdered serial killer Orson LeRoux (Darren Pettie), who’d been threatening her family and, after a crucifix on a rosary burned her hand, Kristen might actually be possessed? It was a lot.
Nearly 17 months later, and after “Evil” switched from broadcast network CBS to streamer Paramount Plus, the jury is still out on the possession — but yes, Kristen totally killed LeRoux. And, as her therapist (Kurt Fuller) points out in the Season 2 premiere, she seems fine with that.
Kristen isn’t the only one on a complicated path in the second season. David (Mike Colter), who is heading toward the priesthood will...

Debunking crusaders Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers), David Acosta (Mike Colter), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) are back to breach the boundaries of belief and delusion in Evil season 2. The premiere season ended begging answers to questions which befuddle some of the most studied theologians.
Of course, the biggest and most pressing question is whether Kristen took an ice axe to whack serial killer Orson LeRoux (Darren Pettie). The answer comes in the first episode, but you’re not going to get it here. For the purpose of the overview, it doesn’t matter what the audience knows. That’s the job of professional investigators, and their inquiries find their way to the former on-call forensic psychology expert for the District Attorney’s office at a disquietingly insidious pace. A dead serial killer is the least of Kristen’s problems anyway. Wait until you see her daughter’s teeth.

Kristen Bouchard, played by Katja Herbers, was as surprised by the Evil season 1 finale as any viewer. Something drew the normally cynical psychiatric trial expert to test her fate. The moment before she sees the acrid burn of sin on her flesh, she is relieved. Everything is normal for too short a moment. Evil season 2 will open on another side of a rabbit hole. The supernatural suspense drama already cast an all-seeing eye into demonic connections in international conspiracy. Their new unsolved mystery is an inner crime. A lone act. Did Kristen kill Orson LeRoux (Darren Pettie)? All the clues are there. Some may have been repressed, like a tell-tale blood stain no one wants to see, but malicious intent tends to rise to the surface. What could have possessed Kristen to do such a thing? It seems the fog has burned off. Spike has cancelled The Mist TV show after just one season. Based on the Stephen King novella, The Mist first premiered on Spike TV on June 22, 2017. The Viacom-owned channel will rebrand as "Paramount Network," in early 2018. A few months prior to its first and only season debut, Kevin Kay, president of Paramount Network, TV Land and Cmt said the new TV series had "potential," and that they would renew it for season two, if the first season found "success" on Spike. Airing on the Spike cable channel, The Mist stars Morgan Spector, Alyssa Sutherland, Gus Birney, Danica Curcic, Okezie Morro, Luke Cosgrove, Darren Pettie, Russell Posner, Dan Butler, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Frances Conroy. After the Copeland family’s daughter survives a brutal attack, an ominous mist overwhelms the town of Bridgeville, Maine.

“The Mist” employs a classic head-fake horror structure: Despite its characters constantly screaming, “What’s in the mist?” it really doesn’t matter what’s actually within the mysterious fog that takes over a small, Maine town. The point is how the mist makes the characters react; how fear of the unknown can drive instinctual reactions, and how those reactions reveal their true selves. Among spiritual and existential themes, the mist is about fear, and how we deal with fear.
In the new Spike original series inspired by Stephen King’s novella, the mist is about bugs. And bad teeth. And poison, presumably. The show is very much concerned with what’s in the mist, and its pilot operates mainly to make you wonder what other gross stuff will come out of it.
In short, it’s less dynamic and more predictable. It’s an easy jump to see how...

Much like the thick veil of supernatural (?) fog blanketing the quaint town of Bridgeville, series showrunner Christian Torpe wants to keep viewers largely in the dark when it comes to The Mist and the horrors that lies within.
With little over a week to go until Spike’s premiere, Arrow in the Head caught up with Torpe to discuss his creative approach to Stephen King’s eerie novella, how it differs from Frank Darabont’s film adaptation, and why he believes that The Mist is just as much about the town’s reaction to chaos as it is about that abnormally thick, downright terrifying fog that begins to roll in off the mountains. As a matter of fact, Christian Torpe even went so far as to say that The Mist isn’t a “full-blown monster show,” which is almost to be expected.

You wait months – no, years – for a Stephen King adaptation and suddenly, three come along almost at once. In two weeks’ time, Spike will kick things off with a small-screen rendition of The Mist, King’s horror novella that imagines a scenario in which the quaint town of Bridgeville, Maine is enveloped by a deeply mysterious fog. Is it a government experiment gone awry? A surprise chemical attack? Or something not of this world?
Those questions will permeate the very fabric of Spike’s TV series, which will tell its unsettling story over the course of ten hour-long episodes – for the first season, at least. It’s the first of three Stephen King properties earmarked for an adaptation, what with The Dark Tower (August 4th) and It (September 8th) looming large on the horizon, too.

A primal fear begins to wash over the quaint town of Bridgton, Maine in these two nerve-shredding featurettes for The Mist, Spike’s long-awaited adaptation of the Stephen King horror masterclass.
Pegged to premiere late next month, The Mist will kick things off with a ten-episode run on Spike – for the first season, at least – that largely centers on Eve Copeland (Vikings star Alyssa Sutherland), a young mother ostracized by the people of Bridgton because her daughter reported a rape against one of the town’s star football players – the poster child of Maine, essentially. It’s a brutal crime that threatens to tear their family apart, and things only begin to escalate once that supernatural fog begins to roll in off the mountains. Is it the result of a government experiment gone awry? An alien invasion? Or something much, much worse?

"What happens if we're a society who becomes ruled by fear?"
I'm pretty excited about this new series adaptation of Stephen King's classic horror story, The Mist. The featurette is called "Entering The Mist", and it features the cast and crew talking about the series along with showing off new footage.
I like the direction they are taking the story, and it actually looks like it will be a very creepy show that will dive into psychological terror, which is exactly what I wanted to see from it!

Depending on who you ask, Frank Darabont‘s “The Mist” is either a stone-cold classic Stephen King adaptation, or it left room for improvement. Well, if you’re in the latter camp, the new TV series based on the author’s story not only takes a new crack at bringing it to life, but it expands the tale and brings it to some intriguing new places.

If you grew up a huge Stephen King fan, 2017 is turning out to be the wet dream you never could have planned for. This year alone, we’re getting adaptations of two pieces of his seminal works: It and The Dark Tower. Additionally, work has begun on Castle Rock, a series that works as something of a shared universe between a lot of his stories, and Mr. Mercedes is also set to premiere this fall. If all that wasn’t enough, Spike will also be remaking one of his shorter novellas, The Mist, into a new TV series.

One of my favorite Stephen King stories is The Mist and a series adaptation of it was announced back in 2015. Well, today the first eerie trailer has rolled in and I like what I'm seeing so far. As you'll see, the series doesn't follow the exact story that King wrote, but I understand they had to change some things up for the series. After watching the trailer, it wasn't hard for me to embrace those changes. It just helps open the world up more and I think it has potential to be a great show that will offer up some intensity and scares. I'm totally looking forward to watching it!

The news front on Spike TV's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist has been relatively quiet in recent months, but that's now changed thanks to a new interview Lilja's Library conducted with Christian Torpe, the creator, executive producer, and showrunner of The Mist TV series, who discussed adapting King's novella, his respect for Frank Darabont's 2007 film, King's reaction to the pilot episode, and more.
Speaking with Lilja's Library, Torpe expressed his desire to do something different with his take on King's seminal novella, including not retreading Darabont's adaptation, which he greatly admires:
"It is not the same story as in the book and the movie, nor is it the same characters – but fans of the story will still see clear parallels... Some things are exactly the same, some are totally different. Some things you think are the same as in the original, but turn out to be something else entirely.
