Saturday Night Live’s latest cold open took aim at recent political headlines, centering on a fictional Oval Office meeting between former President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and tech billionaire Elon Musk. The sketch, which aired on March 8, featured James Austin Johnson as Trump, Marcello Hernandez as Rubio, and a surprise appearance from Mike Myers reprising his role as Musk.
The sketch followed reports of a tense cabinet meeting where Musk and Rubio reportedly clashed. Johnson’s Trump attempted to mediate, urging Rubio to cooperate with Musk, whom he had granted substantial government access. “I need you to be my good little Marco,” Trump told his Secretary of State. Rubio hesitated before replying, “If you think I’m going to stand here and let you call me that… You’re right!”
Rubio then briefed Trump on his efforts to retake the Panama Canal, an initiative Trump dismissed as a hassle.

Exclusive: Mark Gatiss is suitably on-trend with Bookish. He created and stars in the upcoming series as Gabriel Book, an eccentric bookshop owner and expert sleuth who helps the police solve tricky cases. The show has contained stories – one crime plays out over two episodes – and there are lighthearted elements and something comforting about the cluttered antiquarian bookshop, situated in a picture-perfect historic London lane. There is pre-launch buzz and international buyers have already started snapping up the series.
This is cozy crime, but as the show unfolds, Gatiss’ writing reveals layers and wrinkles that give the series teeth.
“It’s become a bit of an instant cliche, ‘cozy crime’, but I don’t think it has to be,” Gatiss tells Deadline. “It can be welcoming, and this has period elements that people love, and they love a world where you can’t solve crimes with computers. But it’s...

Amid rumors that Marvel is in the process of casting a new actor to play T'Challa (Jr.?) for Black Panther 3 and beyond, we may now have confirmation that the McU's current Black Panther will return for the studio's next big event films.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Letitia Wright will reprise her role as Shuri for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
This wouldn't exactly be a massive surprise, but there is talk of the new T'Challa playing a part in Doomsday, so it'll be interesting to see if Shuri plays a significant role in the story or simply shows up to pass on the mantle of Wakanda's protector to her nephew.
At the end of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri meets the son T'Challa had with Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), and finally allows herself to stop mourning her brother's death by burning her funeral robes.

Brace yourself to enter the Captain Underpants cinematic universe. The immensely silly, pleasantly bonkers Dog Man started life as a comic book written by the two primary-school protagonists of Dav Pilkey’s Captain Underpants books before becoming its own bestselling series: one that’s been notably successful in converting reluctant readers into book fans and even aspiring comic-book artists. Now it’s joined its progenitor as a frenetic and very funny animated film.
Dog Man is born when an accident in pursuit of the dastardly Petey (Pete Davidson), a striped orange cat who terrorises the city, leaves cop Officer Knight and his dog Greg in dire straits. The dog’s body is beyond repair, as is the man’s head, so surgeons have the inspired idea of combining the surviving parts to create a man with the head of a dog. The wordless but heroic result is Dog Man, who...

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, set to be released in Spring 2025, is the next installment of the vast Walking Dead franchise. With long-running characters Negan and Maggie leading the spin-off series, the creators have their work cut out for them in order to introduce a fresh and interesting plotline to go along with well-known personalities. As the fanbase becomes increasingly critical of the overall series and the development of the post-apocalyptic world, the new shows have a lot to live up to when it comes to the beloved flagship series.
One major point of contention among viewers is the controversial treatment of Negan's character. Though he is one of the most popular surviving characters in the franchise, he still continues to be one of the most disliked.

There was never any question whether Captain America: Brave New World would lock down the top spot at the box office over its opening weekend. However, even with the film's cool callbacks to The Incredible Hulk (2008) and the inclusion of President "Thunderbolt" Ross’ (Harrison Ford) fiery alter ego, Red Hulk, the latest MCU entry required the four-day holiday weekend to reach an estimated $100 million domestically. Captain America 4 also performed well over the normal three-day frame with $88.5 million (per The Numbers).
Surprisingly, Brave New World performed even better than Captain America: The First Avenger ($65.1 million) over its own opening weekend. Although, when adjusted for inflation, Chris Evans’ first solo film as Steve Rogers would have made $91.8 million in today’s money (three-day), thus trumping Anthony Mackie’s first big-screen adventure as the beloved Avenger. Fortunately for Marvel Studios, fans are enjoying Captain America: Brave New World, despite the scathing reviews from the critics,...

Hollywood icon Ke Huy Quan-led Love Hurts and Josh Ruben's Heart Eyesopen strong but still can't outpace Dog Man.
Per Variety, DreamWorks Animation's Dog Man is still dominating the box office in its second weekend in theaters, even in spite of the releases of both the action comedy Love Hurts starring Ke Huy Quan and director Josh Ruben's new slasher comedy, Heart Eyes. While Heart Eyes has already brought in over $3.7 million in preview screenings and Friday showings, that only barely outpaced Dog Man's second Friday earnings of $3.2 million. Preview screenings and Friday showings of Love Hurts brought in $2.6 million, with forecasts for the weekend putting it at around $6 million, whereas Dog Man is on track to pass earnings of over $54 million within its first ten days, giving it an $18 million projection for its second weekend in theaters.

Last month, a rumor did the rounds that Marvel Studios was planning to recast the role of T'Challa, bringing a new actor in to play the McU's original Black Panther five years after the death of Chadwick Boseman.
The original report stated that Marvel is "looking to recast its Black Panther hero T'Challa ahead of the two Avengers movies and Ryan Coogler's Black Panther 3," but we would later hear that studio was actually in the process of casting an actor for the role of Black Panther's son (also named T'Challa), who was introduced at the end of Wakanda Forever.
Marvel's VP of Production & Development Nate Moore was asked about the possibility of a new T'Challa being introduced during an interview with ComicBook.com, and while he did initially appear to debunk the reports, it doesn't sound like the idea has been completely dismissed.
“The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors.

With “Dog Man,” DreamWorks Animation is barking up the right tree.
Like apparently a whole bunch of other parents, I took my 8-year-old and 4-year-old to see “Dog Man” on its opening weekend. My only expectations were to eat (more than) my share of Adam Aron’s popcorn and to watch my older daughter crack up seeing her favorite graphic novel come to life. That first thing definitely happened; the second didn’t. But that’s not because she didn’t thoroughly enjoy “Dog Man” — in our debriefing (emphasis on the brief: “Yeah”), it sounds like she did — but because my eyes were instead glued to the screen.
“Dog Man,” an adaptation of the Dav Pilkey comic — itself a spinoff of his “Captain Underpants” — was an underdog that over-performed at the box office this past weekend, making $36 million vs. estimates of $25-$30 million. It helped that we are in that...

The unbridled excitement of Dog Man stems from its rejection of traditional storytelling limits. DreamWorks Animation captures Dav Pilkey’s children’s series with wild energy, creating a film bursting with visual chaos and narrative freedom. Peter Hastings directs a work that embraces pure silliness, transforming what could be overwhelming into something truly exciting.
Dog Man opens with a blend of zany humor and genuine emotion. Set in Ohkay City, a world where rules bend and twist, the story follows a character born from medical creativity—part human, part dog. This hero moves with the unfiltered excitement of a child’s imaginative sketch, leaping through adventures that prioritize humor over logic. Action sequences race with comedic momentum, embodying pure childhood creativity: wild, unconstrained, and gloriously messy.
The film goes beyond simple comedy. Its rapid jokes and physical comedy carry emotional depth. While children will delight in its goofy spirit, subtle...

Although we still don't know for certain that Marvel Studios is searching for an actor to play a new take on T'Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the recent rumor has led to several names emerging as potential contenders.
Cross star Aldis Hodge was not among them, but does seem to be the most popular choice to suit-up as Black Panther among a lot of fans.
Hodge - who played Hawkman in Warner Bros.' ill-fated Black Adam movie - hasn't weighed in on the possibility of taking over from the late Chadwick Boseman, but did express interest in playing the hero way back in 2012 prior to Boseman being cast.
"Growing up, I was a fan of Black Panther and X-Men comic books. I was also a huge Batman fan. There’s recently been a little buzz online about Marvel pushing for Black Panther, and I’ve been in love with the idea for years.

Actor Armie Hammer was on the rise when his career took a major hit in 2021. At the time, allegations of misconduct were leveled against Hammer, and offers for new roles in Hollywood films immediately dried up.
After four years, Hammer is looking to get his acting career back on the rails. He has recently been hosting a podcast, looking to show another side of himself as he takes on more acting work. Per Variety, his next role will see him playing a vigilante in a movie called The Dark Knight. While the movie happens to share a title with a beloved film directed by revered filmmaker Christopher Nolan, it is not a DC project focused on Batman... though, with Hammer in the lead, it's still starring someone who was once also cast as the popular superhero.

As long as Wolverine has been alive, it’s no surprise that his family tree is more like an orchard. The X-Man hero has sired dozens of known children, let alone the countless others that could still exist. Wolverine has also been cloned more than a few times, leading to multiple variants of the mutant hero parading around the Marvel Universe. Unfortunately, not all of Logan’s family share his nobler traits.
Throughout the entirety of his lifetime, Wolverine has closely walked a delicate line of moral ambiguity. While Logan has embraced his heroic nature, his relatives often lean toward villainy. By nature, Wolverine is a feral beast; it’s technically a facet of his mutations. Whether it be a sibling, a child, or a clone, his family members often share his short-tempered lethal tendencies. Of course, not all of Logan’s spouses have been hero material either. While some of his family,...

In Friday’s episode of Dexter: Original Sin, our titular killer with a code experiences some normal, non-murdery feelings when a child — Judge Powell’s abducted son Jimmy — is sadly found dead, his body strung from a bridge.
Dexter has a panicked, sickened feeling after seeing his first dead kid, and the whole experience shakes him to his core. Harry assures his son that it’s a good thing that Dexter feels so spun by the sight of a dead child. So while Miami Metro deals with the Powell case, Harry sends Dexter to another scene dealing with a dead prostitute.

Characters from The Simpsons, Family Guy, and other iconic cartoons have been hilariously reimagined in the signature conjoined style of CatDog. Nickelodeon’s classic series, which aired from 1998 to 2005, follows the adventures of conjoined twin brothers Cat, a sophisticated and cunning feline, and Dog, a cheerful and impulsive canine, as they navigate life in the quirky town of Nearburg. These whimsical mashups merge well-known animated duos into singular characters, combining their distinct features in a way reminiscent of CatDog creator Peter Hannan’s titular siblings.
In a post by graphic design student @ben.the.mashup.man on Instagram, beloved cartoon duos are all stitched or seamlessly fused together at the waist, like Regular Show's Mordecai and Rigby, Garfield's Garfield and Odie, Family Guy's Brian and Vinny, and The Simpsons’ Itchy and Scratchy. If you're under the age of 60, it's possible you don't know who Rin Tin Tin is. This is a pity, as there was a time when Rin Tin Tin was one of the biggest movie stars on the planet. Born in Fliery, France in 1918, Rin Tin Tin (sometimes called Rinty for short) was a German Shepherd found on a French battlefield by an American solider named Lee Duncan, fighting in World War I. Returning from the war, Duncan trained Rinty to perform on camera and merely walked the dog from studio to studio, asking if they were looking for a performing animal. Rin Tin Tin made his film debut in the 1922 film "The Man from Hell's River," replacing a persnickety wolf. He would go on to play a Wolf Dog in the 1923 film "Where the North Begins," launching the popular pooch into the mainstream.

The first trailer for James Gunn's Superman will drop on Thursday, December 19, begging the question of what exact time it will be released. As the first official movie of the Dcu's Chapter One, Superman has a lot riding on its shoulders. Not only is it promising to be a return to the form for the character after the Dceu's more divisive take on the Man of Steel, but it is also the first step of a larger story. While Creature Commandos is currently airing on Max, James Gunn's Superman movie is touted as the true beginning of the Dcu.
After years of teasing via the cast announcements for Superman, the first look at the film is almost here. In December 2024, Gunn took to social media to unveil an official poster for the film that also promoted the first teaser trailer for Superman, revealing that it will be released on...

The ninth Jesse Stone movie reveals that the title character's best friend Reggie the Dog has passed away, which is even more tragic thanks to a behind-the-scenes story. Reggie appeared in seven of the nine Jesse Stone movies, with Tom Selleck's police chief adopting the golden retriever mix after he is found next to the body of his previous owner. The two developed a fascinatingly dysfunctional relationship, where they showed little affection for one another but were closely bonded anyway. This is what makes the reveal of Reggie's death in Lost in Paradise so moving.
In the opening scenes of the ninth film, Jesse stands by Reggie's grave and states ”It took so long to acknowledge a connection, admit there was a bond... Life plays tricks on you." While audiences had previously seen major characters like Viola Davis' Molly exit the Jesse Stone series, the loss of Reggie cut especially deep.

Alain Guiraudie’s “Misericordia,” Carlos Marqués-Marcet “They Will be Dust” and Yeo Siew Hua’s “Stranger Eyes” all won big at Spain’s auteurist haven Valladolid Film Festival on Saturday, in a second edition under José Luis Cienfuegos whose prizes served as a vindication of the changes he has wrought at the festival as well as an indication of some ways European arthouse is going.
All three directors’ awards build on prior upbeat reception. Playing Cannes Premiere, “Misericordia,” which scooped Valladolid’s best picture Golden Spike and its screenplay trophy, was hailed by Variety as a “darkly comic backwoods fable of pansexual desire and small-town sociopathy” which marks a “welcome re-embrace of the streamlined murdery perversities of his terrific ‘Stranger by the Lake.'”

Although Halloween is embraced by all ages these days, it was mostly a children’s holiday not all that long ago. What is essentially now a multi-month event was a single day of fun back then. The real world has changed in this regard, but some things stay the same in TV anthologies; kids are still the focal point in stories about Halloween.
In episodic anthologies rooted in horror, Halloween stories occasionally happen but are not guaranteed or even timely. Horror series, after all, do not rely on Halloween in order to be horror. The chances are, though, if an episode is all about Halloween, the protagonists are probably young.
Here are five must-watch tales of kid-friendly Halloween horror from TV anthologies.

Director Ben Tan’s short film Dog has to be one of the strangest things I have seen in recent times. I am not saying this as a criticism, by the way. Rather, this is more of an observational statement. The gorgeous black-and-white short film opens with loud party music. It is a rave party that our protagonist Summer is attending. But she has one issue. We see her arguing with her mother in a scene that intercuts with the party. Summer’s mother wants her to take her younger sister, Lex, along with her as she has some errands to run. Lex is blind, which makes her a burden for Summer. And people usually do not take their blind sisters to rave parties. Unfortunately, Summer fails to talk her way out of the situation no matter how hard she tries. So we find Lex and Summer at the party.

Belgium is approaching the 30th anniversary of the start of a dark chapter in its history in which pedophile Marc Dutroux abducted six young girls from June 1995 to August 1996.
Imprisoning them in the basement of his house in the former coal-mining town of Marcinelle, the convicted sex offender tortured and sexually abused his young victims, killing four of them.
Mélissa Russo and Julie Lejeune, who were just eight years old, died of starvation and dehydration, while An Marchal, 17, and Eefje Lambrecks, 19, were buried alive. Sabine Dardenne, 12, and Laetitia Delhez, 14, were freed following Dutroux’s arrest in August 1996.
In a bold cinematic move, Belgian director Fabrice du Welz revisits the case in high-octane crime thriller Maldoror, which weaves in details of the real affair with the fictitious journey of a young police officer played by Anthony Bajon.
