Audible Inc., a leading producer and provider of original spoken-word entertainment and audiobooks, today announced the upcoming release of the Canadian Audible Original drama Wynonna Earp: Tales from Purgatory. Sky’s UK arm has acquired Wynonna Earp: Vengeance, the latest special in the Wynonna Earp franchise, which follows the exploits of Wyatt Earp’s great-great granddaughter as she battles demons and other supernatural beings. Cineflix Rights sell the 90-minute special, which is set to launch on Tubi in the U.S., Latin America, Canada and Australia on September 13. It follows the hard-living heroine as she returns to her hometown of Purgatory to battle a psychotic seductress hellbent on revenge against Wynonna… and everyone she loves. Ten years ago, actor Adam MacDonald made his feature writing and directing debut with an entertaining survival thriller called Backcountry (watch it Here), which starred Missy Peregrym as a woman lost in the wilderness and menaced by a bear. A few years ago, we heard that MacDonald and Peregrym were going to be teaming up for a new survival thriller called Out Come the Wolves, which went into production last year – and now it’s ready to make its way out into the world! IFC Films will be bringing Out Come the Wolves to theatres and “everywhere you rent movies” on August 30th, and with that date swiftly approaching, a red band trailer for the film has arrived online. Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired international rights to the YA rom-com Boot Camp and will introduce the film to EFM buyers in Berlin next week.

The feature is based on the Wattpad webnovel of the same name by Gina Mush and was directed by Mackenzie Munro from Gemma Holdway’s adapted screenplay.

Blue Fox plans to show first footage on the story starring Rachel Boudwin (Dhar Mann), Drew Ray Tanner (Riverdale), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Superman And Lois) about a young woman who signs up for summer boot camp and falls for her off-limits personal trainer.

Lindsay Macadam serves as producer.

I grew up on Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, and Goosebumps. These gateway horrors opened up a whole new world for me. The trembling fear I endured when Carly Beth slid on that terrifying green mask still lingers with me even now. And I’ll never forget the chills I felt running down my spine when Sarah launched into “Come Little Children” or the penetrating gaze of Kalabar that seemed to cut into my soul. These images provoked something in me, conspiring to lure me into horror – and I’ve never left. I might be 30-something now, but I can still enjoy nice little gateway horror movies, especially when they’re as compelling as the Halloween-set Cobweb and The Curse of Bridge Hollow.

In Cobweb, screenwriter Chris Thomas Devlin stages an epically creepy story about a young boy named Peter (Woody Norman), whose parents Carol (Lizzy Caplan) and Mark (Antony Starr) rule with a stringent hand.

Exclusive: Canada’s Waterside Studios is developing scripted projects with an array of North American writing and production talent.

The Corus Entertainment-owned studio is currently focusing on procedurals, half-hour comedies and young adult content after launching last year. On the back of its debut teen series Geek Girl going into production for Netflix and Corus, Head of Waterside Jeff Norton revealed a trio of titles developed with the likes of writer-producers Todd Berger and Julie Dicresce, Arnie Zipursky and Jeff Detsky.

On the procedural front is Serve & Protect, a drama series co-produced with Berger and Dicresce’s December Films, which is best known for Syfy horror comedy Reginald the Vampire. Canadian novelist and screenwriter Zoe Whittall is attached to the project, which Norton billed as having “the ensemble cast of NCIS with the quick wit of Private Eyes.”

“Reginald the Vampire” producer December Films has inked a first-look deal with Cineflix Studios (“Tehran”).

The first project to come out of the deal is a new ten-part series, “Carpe Demon” from showrunner Emily Andras (“Wynonna Earp”). Based on the Julie Kenner novels of the same name, the series about a demon hunting suburban mom is in development for Paramount+ Canada.

Canada and LA-based December Films launched in 2020, founded by Julie Dicresce and Todd Berger.

Principal photography has commenced on Adam MacDonald’s survival thriller “Out Come the Wolves.”

The feral feature, which will be shot on location in Dundas, Ontario throughout May, follows the story of a woman who takes her fiancé to a secluded cabin to meet her best male friend, before things take a dark turn during a hunting trip.

The film is represented for international by Altitude Film Sales, who will be discussing the film with buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Market.

MacDonald’s credits include “Backcountry”, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and “Pyewacket”, which also debuted at TIFF. He also directed the third and fourth seasons of “Slasher” and the upcoming season five for AMC’s Shudder. Most recently, he completed directing the first virtual reality horror movie experience for Meta entitled “Be Mine.”

USA Network/Syfy have good news for fans of killer dolls and vampires. Syfy’s Chucky will return for a third season and Reginald the Vampire has officially been renewed for season two.

The second season of Chucky was one of the top 10 drama cable series in 2022 among adults. And the network’s Reginald the Vampire starring Jacob Batalon was second among all cable dramas on Wednesdays at 10pm during its first season run.

A new dramedy series from film director Todd Berger (“The Curse of Bridge Hollow”) is set to be produced by Jennifer Levin and Bill Lawrence. It will center on a true-crime obsessed woman who finds a seat on a high-profile Las Vegas murder trial.

The lead character in the series titled “12 Rocks in a Box” is named Suzannah Weaver, she is “a self-described ‘Murderista’ obsessed with true crime.” The storyline — which was written by and executive produced by Berger — will follow Suzannah as she becomes a jury for an infamous murder trial in Las Vegas. However, “Suzannah soon begins to suspect that not all is as it seems with this case, and a DIY investigation leads her to believe that the killer may indeed be in the courtroom every day…and it isn’t the man on trial,” a description for the series reads.

HBO Max is developing a dramedy about a murder trial that boasts Bill Lawrence among its executive producers, Variety has learned exclusively.

It will go through the post-production process in the UK.

Donald Sutherland has boarded the coming-of-age genre thriller “Heart Land,” a rare U.K. and New Zealand treaty co-production.

Directed by David Carson, the film is currently being filmed in New Zealand and Quebec, Canada, with post-production set to take place in the U.K.

Penned by Matthew A. Collins (“All That Glitters”), “Heart Land” is billed as “28 Days Later” meets “Lord of the Flies.” The story is centered around two disparate bands of children struggling to survive in the brutal landscape of a pestilent America, where adults have become infected by a mysterious plague and only children are immune. Left to their own devices, the youthful survivors must rely on primal instinct and dwindling resources to fend off the raging infected.

The pic is centered around a character named Jonah, who is the grandson of Rick (Sutherland).

“Rick is the emotional heart and anchor of ‘Heart Land,’” says Carson.

Apple TV+ has released the trailer for the all-new futuristic anthology series “Circuit Breakers,” premiering globally on Friday, November 11. “Circuit Breakers” is a half-hour anthology series about middle-schoolers in the near future that uses science fiction as a backdrop to tell universal stories about growing up. In his first leading feature role, Drew Ray Tanner (“Riverdale”) will star in “Boot Camp,” a film adaptation of the hugely popular Wattpad story by Gina Musa of the same name.

The romantic comedy tells the body-empowerment story of notoriously unathletic Whitney Carmichael, played by Rachel Boudwin, who begins to fall for her off-limits personal trainer, Axel (Tanner), after signing up for an intense summer boot camp to reinvent herself. A deepening connection inspires her to let go of the others’ expectations and, instead, find the strength to embrace her true self.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios announced that production has wrapped on “Boot Camp” after filming began in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, earlier this month. The décor is tired of being neglected this Halloween season. A restless spirit with malintent uses any and every Halloween decoration and animatronic in its path to wreak havoc upon a small town. While Netflix’s The Curse of Bridge Hollow shares a similar premise to another family-friendly, novelty Halloween flick this Fall, its execution is far more energetic and fun.

Jacob Batalon addressed how playing the beloved character of Ned in Marvel’s “Spider-Man” trilogy helped inform how he approached his leading role in Syfy’s “Reginald the Vampire,” joking that he was grateful his fellow co-stars were “willing to put up with my diva-ness.”

“I think my experiences working on the ‘Spider-Man’ movies has really informed the way I operate on set in the way that I found that the easiest way for us to progress in a shoot is to make sure everyone is happy and comfortable and likes each other,” Batalon said on a panel Thursday as part of NBC Universal’s portion of the Television Critics Association summer tour.

Batalon also said he has learned a lot through the years from watching others on set.

Apple TV+ is ramping up its slate of kids and family programming for the fall.

The tech giant’s streaming service will debut four new series in the fall and offer up new seasons of five returning shows, including Ghostwriter — with an entirely new cast for its third installment — and Hello, Jack! The Kindness Show. Apple TV+ will also add eight Peanuts specials to its library as part of its partnership with rights holder WildBrain.

The four new series are preschool animated show Sago Mini Friends, based on characters from the Sago Mini World app; Slumberkins, a mix of animation and puppetry from the Jim Henson Company; Interrupting Chicken, based on the award-winning children’s book by David Ezra Stein; and Circuit Breakers, a kid-friendly sci fi show.

Syfy’s SurrealEstate will again see the light of day. The Canadian drama series, which was canceled last year, will return for a second season for premiere in 2023, Syfy has revealed.

The series, which stars Tim Rozon, Sarah Levy, Adam Korson, Maurice Dean Wint, Savannah Basley, and Tennille Read, follows an elite team of specialists at The Roman Agency who handle the cases no one else can — haunted and possessed houses that literally scare would-be buyers away.

SurrealEstate will join previously announced new scripted series Reginald the Vampire, a dramedy based on Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire book, and space-set survival drama The Ark, from writer Dean Devlin, as well as Halloween horror movie Bring It On: Cheer or Die.

Syfy’s latest programming slate includes the return of the #1 and #2 new scripted cable series of 2021, the Alan Tudyk-led dramedy Resident Alien and Chucky, executive produced by Don Mancini.

Amazon and Hulu have swooped for Syfy comedy drama “Reginald the Vampire,” starring “Spider-Man: No Way Home” star Jacob Batalon.

The streamers have picked up the show for select territories, while Cineflix Rights has come on board as international distributor and will be shopping the 10-part series at next month’s MipTV market in Cannes. It’s produced by Thunderbird Entertainment-owned Great Pacific Media.

Hulu has acquired second-window U.S. rights to the series — co-produced with Modern Story, December Films and Cineflix Studios — while Amazon has bought streaming rights in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The show is in its final week of shooting and is slated for a summer premiere on Syfy.

Exclusive: Decal, the recently launched film label, has acquired U.S. rights to Naveen A. Chathapuram’s thriller The Last Victim and will release it theatrically day-and-date in the first quarter of 2022.

The pic stars Ron Perlman, Ali Larter (Resident Evil) and Ralph Ineson (The Green Knight). Set in rural America, it follows a band of modern-day outlaws pursued by an aging sheriff after a crime goes wrong.

Ferguson stars in the yet-to-be-titled movie as a teenage girl who accidentally unleashes an ancient and mischievous spirit on Halloween, causing decorations to come alive and wreak havoc.
