The sci-fi genre has always been one of the most beloved among cinephiles as it gives us a new look at a particular technology or our world. There was a time when Max (formerly known as HBO Max) was the place for peak sci-fi shows but after taking off Westworld and Raised by Wolves from the service, and since then it has been lacking a bit regarding sci-fi shows. But still, we picked the seven best sci-fi shows that we could find on Max.
Avenue 5
Avenue 5 is a sci-fi dark comedy series created by Armando Iannucci. The Max series is set in the future and mostly in space and it follows the story of the crew and passengers on board the interplanetary cruise ship named Avenue 5. A little mistake and the death of its chief engineer causes Avenue 5 to veer 0.21 degrees off course which results in the...

In the middle of a crisis, it can be difficult to comprehend the full scope of the failures that brought the nation to its knees. To reframe the coronavirus pandemic, and the Trump administration’s catastrophic response, Rolling Stone presents here a timeline.
It shows that the pandemic was not a “black swan” event — some unforeseeable tragedy. Rather, a global pandemic of this sort has been predicted for decades, and indeed previous administrations, both Republican and Democrat, had sought to prepare the country for just such an outbreak. Yet upon taking office,...

After years producing investigative documentaries that hold the likes of Isis and East African death squads to account, Democratic Senate candidate Jon Ossoff now finds himself in the media glare, pursued by fellow documentarians and acutely aware of optics.
In this “golden age” of nonfiction, where a film on 30-year-old Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sold to Netflix for a reported $10 million at last year’s Sundance, Ossoff, the 33-year-old challenger for a Senate seat in Georgia, in a meta twist, is being courted by an accomplished documentary producer (the campaign declines to name names) who’s eager to follow promising young candidates in this year’s elections.
Ossoff gets it. It’s not often U.S. documentary filmmakers run for office. “It may be that folks who dedicate their careers to digging into the flaws and failures of our political system perhaps view those flaws and failures so starkly that they hesitate to dive in themselves,...

Scott Lloyd, director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, had virtually no experience working with displaced populations before the Trump administration put him in charge of the agency responsible for helping tens of thousands of refugees settle in the U.S. every year, not to mention the care of the more than 10,000 children who arrive in the country alone.
And that lack of experience has shown in his job performance. Under Lloyd, the number of children in custody has reached an all time high and the number of days those...

Anti-gun activist Lucy McBath will represent Georgia’s sixth district in Congress next year. Karen Handel, the Republican who has represented the district since defeating Democrat Jon Ossoff in an expensive and closely-watched special election last year, conceded the race Thursday morning.
“After carefully reviewing all of the election results data, it is clear that I came up a bit short on Tuesday,” Handel wrote on Facebook. “Congratulations to Representative-Elect Lucy McBath and I send her only good thoughts and much prayer for the journey that lies ahead for her.

Updated with Pruitt’s letter of resignation: Epa chief Scott Pruitt’s list of scandals finally got long enough that President Donald Trump has accepted his “resignation.”
“t is hard for me to advise you I am stepping down as Administrator of the Epa effective as of July 6,” Pruitt emoted in an impressively glutinous letter of resignation, adding that it’s also “extremely difficult for me to cease serving you in this role first because I count it a blessing to be serving you in any capacity, but also, because of the transformative work that is occurring.”
“However, the unrelenting attacks on me personally, my family, are unprecedented and have taken a sizable toll on all of us.”
“I believe you are serving as President today because of God’s providence,’ Pruitt continued in his resignation letter. “I believe that same providence brought me into your service. I pray as...

Washington — Scott Pruitt has resigned as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, following a series of ethics scandals in how he used the perks of his position for personal gain and managed employees at the agency.
In a tweet, President Donald Trump said that Andrew Wheeler, the deputy administrator, will serve as its acting chief.
“I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Within the Agency Scott has done an outstanding job, and I will always be thankful to him for this. The Senate confirmed Deputy at Epa, Andrew Wheeler, will on Monday assume duties as the acting Administrator of the Epa. I have no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting Epa agenda. We have made tremendous progress and the future of the Epa is very bright,” Trump wrote.

Georgia state Representative Betty Price was caught on video admitting she voted against her state’s proposed Distracted Driving Bill — which would make it illegal to hold phones or other electronic devices while driving — because she wanted to exact revenge on her colleagues for voting against her, according to a report from Wsbtv 9.
On Friday, the station released covert video taken of Price — who previously created controversy for her remarks about quarantining people with HIV — telling a widow whose husband had been killed by a distracted driver that she voted against the bill as “a protest because they ignored my bill last year.

Fox News’ “The Five” co-host Greg Gutfeld accused Hollywood of “interference” and obstruction” in Georgia’s special congressional election on Tuesday night, comparing Hollywood celebrities to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Republican Handel beat Democrat Ossoff to win a high-stakes, high-cost Georgia race to fill Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, which Tom Price vacated to become Trump’s Health Secretary. Gutfeld pointed out that 7,000 people from California donated to Ossoff, while he received cash from only 800 residents of his own district. Death takes a holiday.
Imagine that no one dies. Plants and animals continue with their normal life-cycles, but humans don’t. They sustain massive injuries, get blown up, stabbed, burned, what have you, but yet they live and live and live without the great surcease of pain. For some this would be a blessing; time granted to them while surgeons repair damaged bodies. To others it would be a living hell no one should ever endure.
This is the situation the world finds itself in at the start of “The New World,” the first episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day. It’s the fourth series to of the Doctor Who spinoff be produced and the first to be co-produced with the American television network Starz.
As the story opens, we find a man, Oswald Dane (Bill Pullman), about to be executed for the rape and murder of a twelve-year-old girl.

Hold your tongues if you live in the UK and have already seen this season, but the Us is just now getting the second season of the drama, “Survivors”. This show follows survivors of a deadly flu-like plague as they try to establish a society. The premiere of season two begins tonight on BBC America.
The first season of the show was about gathering the survivors together and exploring what’s left of their world. This season opens with the survivors in conflict with remains of the old government and those trying to establish a new regime.
Check out what the show is about:
Set in the present day, Survivors focuses on the world in the aftermath of a virulent disease that scoured the planet, wiping out 99% of the human race. Only a lonely few are left to start over in a devastated world where everything that was once safe...

What if the end of the world came and you survived it? The new BBC America series Survivors explores just that idea. While it’s being presented as pure sci-fi, near future drama, the elements of horror are inescapable. The series is well acted by players who are relative unknowns outside of the UK (see full series one cast list below). A nod must be given to those who have deftly casted the core group which seems to have just the right amount of tense expectancy about the world as it now is.
The first four hours of the series have only begun to explore the range of emotions any survivor would experience. Imagine the slow realization of the growing deaths around you. In this instance, a rouge virus whose mortality rate is something close to 99% has come for humanity. At least it wasn’t a terror attack or asteroid from space.

Who's this now?
Well, this is an interesting twist.
Yesterday, we mentioned that Neil Patrick Harris had taken to his Twitter with a low-key appeal for votes in Man of the Decade, and had mounted what seemed to be a huge lead. Even once John Barrowman engaged via his own Twitter, we though maybe the 42x multiple Nph had in followers might make the race over.
Enter Jonathan Ross, riding on a white stallion, to aid his friend John Barrowman. Jonathan is, for lack of a better comparison for our U.S. readers, a sort of Jay Leno in the UK, except people don't seem to hate him. In fact they love him so much, he's got about 500,000 followers on Twitter. So when he put the story out there that Barrowman was going down to Nph, things took on a life of their own.

Even though its already started in the UK, the third season of the Doctor Who spinoff Torchwood is still something we have to wait for and look forward to here in the States. Sadly, even with the wait, we won’t get very many episodes this time around because of the BBC’s decision to only produce a five episode mini-series instead of a full season.
We’re not sure of the logic behind that decision, but at least we’ll still get a new adventure featuring some of our favorite Torchwood characters like Ianto, Gwen and the man himself, Captain jack Harkness. We’ve covered the show before and brought you the first trailer. And now, thanks to the BBC, we’ve got another longer clip to show you — which is about two minute and near the end, pretty creepy and cool.
