He may not be returning to Star Wars (yet), but it looks like the Force is bringing together Oscar Isaac and Rogue One director/Andor creator Tony Gilroy. The actor is reportedly set to star in Gilroy's next feature film, a drama about a cello player — though there is very little known about the movie beyond that. If true, it would mark the first time the duo have worked together. But given the talent involved, we could absolutely see it not being the last time these two talented storytellers unite in creative collaboration.

Per the folks over at ComingSoon.net, the film is only in the script stage, with details being kept under wraps. There are, reportedly, several interested studio players involved in negotiations to grab the distribution and/or production rights to the film, currently titled Behemoth. Beyond that, your best guess is as good as ours as far as what will happen.

Aaron Paul and Jacob Tremblay have officially joined the cast of The Night House, a film adaptation of the bestselling horror novel by author Jo Nesbø.

Per Variety, Paul and Tremblay will lead the upcoming horror adaptation as the younger and older versions of the film's protagonist, with more cast members expected to be announced soon. Jesper Ganslandt directs from a script penned by himself and Nesbø. Steven Schneider, best known for horror franchises such as Paranormal Activityand Insidious, serves as the producer of The Night House. The film is still in the pre-production phase, with plans to begin filming this summer. Nesbø also has a Netflix series adaptation of his novels centered around his Detective Harry Hole character in the works, with Tobias Santelmann and Joel Kinnaman set to star.

The feature comes from genre maestro Steven Schneider who has teamed with Hope Studios’ Fredrik Wikström Nicastro and director Jesper Ganslandt.

Protagonist Pictures is launching international sales on the at the European Film Market in Berlin. WME Independent and UTA Independent Film Group are co-repping U.S. rights.

Jo Nesbo is not merely a “serial” author he is a “spree writer” who mass produces crime novels, children’s books and short stories. The private detective film will always be the slinkiest and sexiest of thriller subgenres – minus the strictures and/or corruption of police procedure, crime-solving can feel as alluringly shadowy and illicit as the crime itself. Relatively few of us have ever encountered, let alone hired, a private eye; far more of us, I’d wager, have at some point entertained the fantasy that we’d be quite good at the job ourselves.

A good tasty noir, like “Love Lies Bleeding,” always feels contemporary, even if set in the past; that’s because it should feel as urgent as the love-and-death stakes it’s about. “Killer Heat,” on the other hand, while not quite so old-fashioned that it creaks, definitely plays like a mirage of detective noirs you’ve seen before. To start with: Could there be a worse title? It makes the movie sound like some straight-to-tape potboiler from the ’80s starring Jim Belushi and Daphne Zuniga. “Killer Heat” opens with the voice of its star, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who has a way of sounding like Keanu Reeves’ brainier brother), delivering one of those logy “hardboiled” philosophical nuggets to the audience (“The Icarus myth was set on the island of Crete. And apparently no one there had learned much from his story…”).

What might seem like a relatively easy ask on paper – the director of a buzzy festival hit adapting a Jo Nesbø short story with three likable and attractive actors set on the camera-ready island of Crete – has become a bizarrely effortful slog in the misshape of Killer Heat, a dull and predictable sunshine noir that wastes the time of those involved as well as ours.

Originally known as the far more appealing The Jealousy Man in print, the anonymously retitled mystery plays less like a real movie and more like a case-of-the-week episode of an ITV crime drama (without credits it’s not even 90 minutes long). Joseph Gordon-Levitt, revisiting similar yet considerably lesser territory to his role in Rian Johnson’s stylish 2005 thriller Brick, plays a run-of-the-mill private detective named Nick who is called to...

I love movies like Killer Heat, not just the movie Killer Heat. This type of knockoff fiction can be recycled and found in any big-box department store, where people gobble it up for summer reading. The film offers virtually nothing new on the subject.

Even from the clothes, setting, and moments of shadowy cinematography. So, studios do what they do: cast attractive leads and saturate the story with a faux-noir style, which many will mistake for originality.

The film is standard by the numbers, dusting off the playbook and following the step-by-step mystery genre production. I almost think the talented cast signed on for the Greek island location entirely.

Netflix has reaffirmed its commitment to Scandinavian originals, on Thursday an upcoming slate of productions from Sweden, Norway and Denmark that, according to Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, VP of Nordic Content at the streamer, is Netflix’s “most diverse and ambitious to date.”

Netflix has commissioned more than a dozen new and returning Nordic series, with highlights including disaster drama La Palma, about a Norwegian family whose Canary Islands’ holiday is disrupted by a volcanic eruption; The Helicopter Heist, a dramatization of a daring real-life cash depot robbery in Sweden in 2009; and Danish mystery The Habitat, which follows the mysterious disappearance of a young Filipino au pair in an affluent Danish neighborhood.

Exclusive: Scandi crime master Jo Nesbø is adapting his recent novel The Night House, a Stephen King-esque tale set in small town America in the mid-eighties, into a horror movie to film next spring.

The project combines Nesbø with veteran producer Fredrik Wikström Nicastro (A Man Called Otto) of Hope Studios and writer and director Jesper Ganslandt, co-creator and director of hit Netflix show Snabba Cash. Ganslandt will direct, and co-script with Nesbø. Niclas Salomonsson and Nesbø are exec producers.

The synopsis reads: “Recently orphaned, Richard has been sent to live with relatives in the remote US town of Ballantyne. One day, during an innocent prank in a phone booth, Richard shockingly witnesses his classmate getting sucked into the phone receiver – disappearing without a trace. Splashy Last Week On The Lido

Uncharacteristically buzzy: The Venice Film Festival ends tomorrow after an uncharacteristically buzzy second week. The festival is usually front-loaded, with the splashiest titles playing early. This year, however, Alberto Barbera, who dished to Andreas, said the lengthy runtimes of some competition titles meant the spoils had to spread across both weeks. Enter Brady Corbet’s 215-minute post-wwii epic The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Stacy Martin, Raffey Cassidy, Emma Laird, Isaach De Bankolé and Alessandro Nivola. The pic was well received, landing a 13-minute ovation from the Sala Grande audience. Pedro Almodóvar launched his English-language debut The Room Next Door with his leading ladies Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore.

Deadline has revealed that Tom Hardy and Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be working with True Detective and No Time to Die director Cary Fukunaga on the film adaptation of Blood on Snow. The movie is based on the crime thriller novel by author Jo Nesbø. Nesbø will also be penning the script for his own adaptation with revisions done by Ben Power. The logline involves the plot taking place in 1970s Oslo, where two rival gang leaders—Hoffman and the Fisherman (Hardy) —vie for control.

Hardy and Dean Baker will produce the movie under their Hardy Son & Baker company alongside producers Fukunaga, Nesbø, Niclas Salomonsson, and Hayden Lautenbach. Both Hardy and Taylor-Johnson can be seen this later year in Sony’s Spider-verse movies Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter.

The synopsis for the story reads,

“Hoffman’s trusted hitman, Olav (Johnson), is a cold, efficient killer, perfect for the job.

It would seem as if Cary Fukunaga’s ready to make a comeback after reports of misconduct with women surfaced. And his comeback project, “Blood on Snow,” is headlined by two of the biggest stars working today.

According to Deadline, Cary Fukunaga is set to direct an adaptation of Jo Nesbo’s novel, “Blood on Snow.” Leading the cast of this film are none other than Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Tom Hardy.

Jo Nesbø’s novel Blood On Snow is getting a film adaptation, as reported by Deadline. The crime-thriller will be helmed by No Time To Die director Cary Fukunaga and filming is set to commence later this year.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson will star as will Tom Hardy. Both men are currently preparing for intense press tours as their films Kraven The Hunter and Venom: The Last Dance are due to hit the screens this year.

This is the fifth adaptation of one of Nesbø’s works, following Headhunters, The Hanging Sun and The Snowman as well as the upcoming Killer Heat which will star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley and Richard Madden. According to Deadline, Nesbø will also be in charge of the script for Blood On Snow, with provisions from Ben Power.
