Artsploitation Films has secured the U.S. rights to "Der Bunker," a German comedy that premiered at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival. "Der Bunker," the debut feature from Nikias Chryssos, is a dark comedy set entirely within a windowless bunker housing a husband, wife and their learning-challenged son. A young graduate student soon enters the bunker to tutor the son...whom the parents are grooming to be president of the United States. Artsploitation's president Ray Murray described the film as, "So peculiar yet amazingly memorable," and said, "I felt we had to have this odd comedy. Reminiscent of the works of John Waters, David Lynch and Luis Buñuel, Chryssos creates a reality where conventional story-telling, and its accompanying logic, is left outside the steps, it will be a pleasure to present it to unsuspecting audiences!" Exclusive: The distributor has announced from Berlin it has closed an all-rights North American deal for Chilean genre specialist Patricio Valladares’ action-comedy.
Artsploitation cut the deal at the Efm with producer and Valladares compatriot George Von Knorring of Chile’s Too Much Films.
Toro Loco: Bloodthirsty (Toro Loco: Sangriento) stars Francisco Melo as a vigilante who enlists the support of a young beauty, her geeky brother and a trigger-happy drag queen to avenge the murder of his son.
Valladares directed the notorious 2012 crime thriller Hidden In The Woods and the English-language remake starring Michael Biehn.
He is preparing to shoot the micro-budget English-language survival thriller Downhill in Chile this spring.
“Writer-director Valladares is an amazing talent,” said Artsploitation Films president Raymond Murray. “He imbues this fast-paced tale with memorable characters, imaginatively directed action scenes set within a modernised version of a Spaghetti Western and tops it off with a deft comedic touch.

Kino Lorber has signed a multi-year agreement with Artsploitation Films to become the exclusive home entertainment distributor of Artsploitation's label in the U.S. and Canada. Kino Lorber will handle distribution of all films currently in Artsploitation's catalog, as well as new releases, on Blu-Ray, DVD and all major digital platforms. Artsploitation, a relatively new distributor founded by former president of Tla Releasing Ray Murray, specializes exclusively on international films with a decidedly bold, controversial and hard to market bent, making them a pretty perfect match for similarly bold indie stalwarts Kino Lorber. Murray said, in a release, "our movies - an unpredictable mix of genre films and cutting edge international dramas - require a knowledgeable and specialized sales company and I know we found it with Kino Lorber, a seasoned expert with such films." Richard Lorber, President and CEO of Kino Lorber, added, "Artsploitation's line up is an ideal fit.

Artsploitation Films will be releasing the film along with Korea’s Horror Stories and a Swedish horror film, which may remind you of Evil Dead, called Wither. Artsploitation Films said Thursday it plans to release "Gandu" -- a film banned in its native India -- for North American audiences later this year. Directed by Bengali filmmaker Kaushik "Q" Mukherjee, the indie -- the title of which is Hindi slang for "asshole" -- follows an impoverished young man through his "deliriously frantic, music-infused" dreams of becoming a rap star. Tla Releasing has named Derek Curl head of production and development.
Tla is working with Curl's New York-based Caveat Films to produce two gay short-film compilations for release in late 2009 and also plans to produce six original gay films in the coming year.
"Tla Releasing's mission to continue developing original productions is a natural evolution of the company," Tla presidient Raymond Murray said. "Both Tla and Caveat Films are looking to bring filmmaker's stories to life and present them in various forms of entertainment, from theatrical to home video to original online content."
Upcoming projects from Tla include Spencer Schilly's dark comedy "My Pet Hustler" and Morgan John Fox's "Love in Action," a documentary about Zach Stark, who was kidnapped by his parents and sent to a gay "rehabilitation" camp.
The Tla Releasing team is attending the Sundance Film Festival.
