GLAAD board members Frankie Grande and Peppermint are calling for more inclusivity and LGBTQ representation in reality TV series.

“While we’ve made impressive strides in LGBTQ visibility over the decades, the fact remains that for far too long now, reality shows too often include just one LGBTQ storyline or depend on a single LGBTQ cast member to represent an entire community of individuals and experiences,” Grande, Ariana Grande’s half-brother, and Traitors star and entertainer Peppermint said in an open letter signed by a host of other reality TV stars.

They cite popular unscripted series like Survivor, Big Brother, The Voice, American Idol, The Challenge and The Amazing Race for being held back by minimal LGBTQ representation. “This kind of storytelling is stale, archaic and does not truly reflect the vibrant and diverse queer community that exists in our country and LGBTQ communities around the world,” the duo added...

It’s time for reality television to get a reality check when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation, according to “Big Brother” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” stars Frankie Grande and Peppermint.

The reality TV icons teamed up with GLAAD to pen an open letter to casting directors, producers, creatives and other innovators on Wednesday, urging the genre to showcase the queer community more authentically and at a rate that more closely reflects its prominence in American society.

“I think there needs to be an industry-wide change, not just casting. Unlike most contestants on Peacock’s hit reality series The Traitors, Selling Sunset breakout Chrishell Stause had the most unique “murder” of all.

Stause, decked out in an extravagant red gown and waiting in an opulent church, met her “killers,” a.k.a. Traitors, face-to-face before being put into a coffin to leave the game. “Crazy” she muttered when her fellow cast mates Danielle Reyes and Carolyn Wiger unveiled themselves as Traitors, specifically Traitors who had voted to take her out.

“Girl, you were too faithful,” Wiger told Stause when asked why she was chosen to leave the show. “It was your time. You never would’ve been banished.”

And that part seems mostly true. With the exception of former Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval — the pair famously did not get along, as Stause is friends with Sandoval’s ex, Ariana Madix — none of the cast ever seriously considered Stause to possibly be a Traitor.

Sad news for fans of the Australian soap opera, Neighbours. As per reports, Amazon has canceled the long-running show. The series first ended in 2022, after 37 seasons; however, a year later, Amazon resurrected the soap.

Neighbours once starred Kylie Minogue, Margot Robbie, and Guy Pearce. During the new installment, Pearce, and O.C. alum Mischa Baron made guest appearances.

In addition, the show snagged a Daytime Emmy nod in the category of Outstanding Daytime Drama in 2024 – Pearce also received a nomination for Outstanding Guest Performer.

According to Variety and other outlets, Amazon has canceled Neighbours, the long-running Australian soap that first ended in 2022 after 37 seasons. In 2023, Amazon’s FreeVee platform suddenly resurrected the series that once starred Margot Robbie, Guy Pearce, Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe, and Liam Hemsworth.

Neighbours immediately made a splash with Pearce and The O.C. alum Mischa Baron making appearances. In fact, in 2024, it received a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Daytime Drama. Stause got flashbacks to her first marriage to The Young and the Restless alum Justin Hartley, reports People.

Stause partnered with Real Housewives of New Jersey star Dolores Catania. The All My Children alum didn’t want to deal with the creepy crawlers, and she freaked out the minute they fell onto her hand. “This is worse than my first wedding!” Stause exclaimed. The Traitors took out Bob, who comes from The Biggest Loser. It was an interesting move, but not all the Traitors were on the same page.
