As Producer Salim Akhtar passes away, Subhash K Jha revisits Chand Sa Roshan Chehra.

Nothing about this film about Young Love is young. Jaded and utterly out of step with definitions and dimensions of courtship and romance in the new millennium, Chand Sa Roshan Chehra, released 20 years ago, directed by Shabah Shamsi As produced by Salim Akhtar, represents the most archaic and frozen face of Indian cinema.

In the pursuit to launch the debutant hero, producer Salim Akhtar’s nephew Samir Aftab, the writer Jalees Sherwani fills the plot with every conceivable cliché. Beginning with bachpan ka pyar (childhood attachment) that we’ve seen in puppy-love flicks like Anmol Ghadi and Betaab, the creaking groaning plot takes on the theme of hate-turned-into-love with a family feud, ala Romeo & Juliet, at its bulging backdrop.

It was 19 years ago, when Tamannaah Bhatia’s debut film ‘Chand Sa Roshan Chehra’ was released in 2005. However, for the actress, it is just the beginning.

Taking to Instagram stories, Tamannah on Monday re-shared posts from her fans, congratulating her for completing 19 years in the industry. She thanked all her fans and followers.

In one post, Tamannaah wrote: “Only the beginning my cuties.”

Tamannaah’s friend Kajal Aggarwal on Sunday night took X (formerly called Twitter), to congratulate the ‘Bhola Shankar’ actress on the milestone.

The actress also shared fan-made posters and captioned it: “#19gloriousyearsofTamannaah big congratulations on almost 2 decades darling Tamannaah Bhatia. Such lovely posters by your adorable fans.”

Responding to this gesture, Tamannaah wrote: “It’s so sweet of Kaju to do this and so thoughtful of you guys.”

‘Chand Sa Roshan Chehra’ released in 2005. The romance drama movie, which was directed by Shabah Shamsi, also features Samir Aftab.

Samir Aftab, who was last seen in Shadow, is all busy wrapping up shoots for Krantiveer- The Revolution. But Bangkok shooting didn’t go too well with Samir it seems.

Samir and Jahan Bloch, his co-star, were busy shooting for a romantic song sequence in the movie. The shot required them to stand on rocks in middle of the sea. And the whole unit was so engrossed in shooting that they did not realize the strip of seashore submerging under high tide Samir, Jahan, cameraman and a few other assistants were stuck in neck deep water till they were rescued.
