Take me back to high school. Gotta fix this!
If you're going to judge something, you balance two things: ambition and results. A film like Interstellar (2015), for example had incredible ambition with mixed results. Furthermore, the ambition of the film was indisputably worthy of the effort and the results were mixed only in light of its high goal. That is to say, in a lesser space film, the results would have been laudable. In a movie like Regular Show: The Movie (2015), the ambition is about the size of Matthew McConaughey's squinted eyelid. The film's creative team of J.G. Quintel (director/co-writer/vocal star) and Sean Szeles (co-writer) deliver with apparent ease on that gauge, but are perhaps less commendable for that lack of aspiration. Still, it was kind of a giggle.

The Art of Regular Show was released earlier this month by Titan Books and we got our hands on a copy. The large format (11.4” x 8.9”) 160 page collection of animation stills, sketches, storyboards, and commentaries chronicles the shows creation and its eccentric cast. We see how a rough set of proto-characters evolved into the Pops, Mordecai and Benson that we’ve come to know in the series.
If you’re not familiar with the series, Regular Show is an American animated television series created by J. G. Quintel for Cartoon Network that premiered in 2010. The series revolves around the lives of two friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby—both employed as groundskeepers at a local park. Their regular attempts to slack off usually lead to surreal, extreme, and often supernatural misadventures.
The book covers ground with each cast member including Quintel, Paula Spence, Sean Szeles, Calvin Wong,...

(Cbr) For a series set in a public park, Cartoon Network’s "Regular Show" does a great deal to expand the weirdness of animated television. Masterminded by creator Jg Quintel, the cartoon adventures of bluejay Mordecai and raccoon Rigby often slide into flights of lunacy, with ghost truckers, haunted arcade games, professional partiers and even “The Best VHS in the World.” In advance ofthe release of the Season 3 DVD box set, Quintel spoke with Spinoff Online about the series’ surprise longevity, the expanding cast of a show with more than 100 episodes under its belt, and the craziness alternative-comics artists bring to the show. Plus, Cartoon Network shares an exclusive new clip from the DVD’s special features. Spinoff Online: Jg, in its years on air, "Regular Show" has bucked the trend of recent animated shows on cable. Up until recently, cartoons were expected to only run a set amount of...

Nominations for the 41st Annual Annie Awards were announced and "Frozen" and "Monsters University" led the pack with 10 nominations each. "Despicable Me 2" and "The Croods" followed closely with 9 noms each.
I am rooting for "Frozen" to win! It's a return to form to what Disney does best -- affecting fairy tale with memorable musical numbers. "Monsters University," on the other hand, was bland. The film bored me on second viewing.
Steven Spielberg will receive the Winsor McCay Award for career achievement at the awards ceremony happening on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. Patrick Warburton will serve as host.
