“As long as we have our health and our mind, I think we can just keep on going,” says Hammett, whose new coffee-table book, The Collection: Kirk Hammett, dives into his world-class arsenal of vintage guitars. “Sometimes I forget how old I am,...

Metallica is pushing a new level of immersion for their live show experience, releasing a concert experience through Apple Vision Pro this week that gets fans about as close to the band as possible, including standing on stage while the band performs.
Officially released for Apple Vision Pro users on Friday, the show takes high-tech footage Apple had compiled during the Mexico City stop for the band’s M72 tour last year, placing viewers everywhere from directly in the crowd, to above the stage and to right behind Lars Ulrich’s drum kit, close enough to see even the most minute bits of dirt catching on the high hats.
Metallica bass player Robert Trujillo surprised a couple of fans who demoed the show Friday at the Apple Store at The Grove in Los Angeles, unaware he was sitting beside them as they watched the show through the headsets, only to...

The life of R&b legend Roberta Flack was celebrated at a star-studded memorial in Harlem, New York’s Abyssinian Baptist Church on Monday, March 10th. Fugees members Ms. Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean made a surprise appearance, performing covers of Flack’s songs.
The duo took on Flack’s classic “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” before delivering Fugees’ version of “Killing Me Softly with His Song,” which launched them into stardom and remains the group’s biggest hit.
As Billboard reports, Hill prefaced their performance with a remembrance of the singer. “We weren’t formally asked to do this because I think they were a little shy in asking us to attend,” she said. “So we kind of bum-rushed the service because it really wouldn’t be possible for us to just stand by and not participate.”

Kate Hudson doesn’t just play a rockstar—she lives like one. ‘I like when life is sort of spontaneous. I like the unexpected. I’m comfortable in that!’ she once said, and that same free-spirited energy radiated from her shimmering, fringed ensemble at the 9th Annual Love Rocks concert. Blending boho-chic with stage-ready glamour, her head-turning look was the perfect fusion of fashion and attitude.
Alex Edelman, Amy Schumer, Susie, Essman, and Tracy Morgan hosted the concert at the Beacon Theatre to benefit God’s Love We Deliver, a non-profit that provides medically tailored meals to sick people who cannot cook or shop for themselves.
The night kicked off with a performance by Alicia Keys, and later, Kate Hudson, who released her debut studio album Glorious last year, graced the stage to deliver a breathtaking set.

How does a truly terrible song end up an otherwise flawless album? Blame ego-appeasing band-politics concessions, drug-fueled studio experiments, songwriters working through a few too many personal demons, and artists who just ran out of songwriting steam a little too soon. Or maybe it all comes down to bad judgment.
In any case, Rolling Stone‘s Andy Greene recently found 50 examples of classic albums with at least one bad song, and he goes through his entire list with host Brian Hiatt on the new episode of Rolling Stone Music Now.

Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance at Sunday’s Super Bowl was the most-watched in history, with more than 133 million people tuning in — and it also may have been the most uncompromising. In a slot that every previous artist has reserved mostly for greatest hits, Lamar only played bits of two older songs, focusing instead on his excellent new album, Gnx, and his Drake-eviscerating smash, “Not Like Us.”

The loss of Irv Gotti, who died last week at the age of 54, is immense. The Hollis, Queens native was a relic from an era when being a hip-hop multi-hyphenate wasn’t about diversifying your portfolio but a passion for hip-hop culture. In his time, he was a DJ, an A&R credited with saving Def Jam Records by helping sign Jay-Z and Dmx, a producer who crafted a signature, multi-platinum sound, and a label head for Murder Inc., which sold over 30 million albums from artists like Ja Rule and Ashanti.

Three years ago at the Super Bowl in Los Angeles, Kendrick Lamar was the home-turf newbie on the halftime show hip-hop dream team of Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and 50 Cent. On Sunday in New Orleans, the top-of-his-game Compton-born Pulitzer Prize winner didn’t have to share the glory with anyone as he further solidified his dominance of the genre and the culture.
“This is the great American game!” bellowed an Uncle Sam-clad Samuel L. Jackson as a tic-tac-toe board lit up the stadium and Lamar appeared surrounded by dancers clad in red, white and blue.

When it comes to sports, the world has no shortage of sporting events that draw millions of views and hype. However, when it comes to the land of the free and the home of the brave, there is perhaps no bigger event quite like the Super Bowl. Such is its popularity that the event is watched globally by countless fans, becoming a cultural phenomenon thanks to its reach and appeal.
But just like the entertainment industry, sports too are not free from controversy, rumors, and speculation. The 2025 Super Bowl is, thus, no different from the rest and has been drawing the attention of many eager eyes with its baffling Super Bowl Logo Conspiracy theory. According to this theory, the colors in the logo predict which two teams will eventually play in the finals, and eerily over the past few years, the color of the Super Bowl logo has predicted the championship teams with remarkable accuracy.

The music business is all about the next big act, the next big performer. Who’s going to break out. Who’s going to be the next household name. The Grammys, over the years and to varying degrees of success, has delivered that prediction with its Best New Artist prize.
Starting with Bobby Darin in 1960, the award has been the harbinger of who’s going to be topping the music world … some of the time. Darin didn’t do too bad in his long music and acting career. In 1965, a little combo from the UK made the cut and The Beatles went on to become one of the greatest bands ever.
Some other highlights of the Best New Artist roster. In 1962, Peter Nero was the first jazz musician to win. Bobbie Gentry was the first woman to win in 1968. The Carpenters, Richard and Karen, was the first duo to win...

Our long national nightmare is over: Beyoncé finally won Album of the Year. The Grammys desperately needed her to win this award, so the night felt like a true celebration. The entire 2025 Grammys ceremony was a “just give Beyoncé her damn Album of the Year already” countdown. It all goes back to the curse of Morning Phase in 2015, when she lost to an obscure Beck album, the biggest upset in Grammy history. Over the past decade, as she lost for Lemonade and Renaissance, there’s been a sense that Bey...

A phrase you will never see as part of a chyron on any other awards show: “All unworn undergarments will be donated to survivors of domestic violence through I Support The Girls.”
That notification flashed, so to speak, across the screen at the end of Charli Xcx’s performance late in Sunday night’s 2025 Grammy Awards.
Charlie Xcx had just made her way from the loading dock at the Arena Formerly Known as Staples in Los Angeles, paraded out onto the stage in an absurdly high-energy maelstrom of sweaty limbs, thrusting groins, raining confetti and, yes, veritable plumes of pantaloons — most presumably unworn, but who can say for sure?

In a show that largely ignored politics, Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga spoke out forcefully in favor of human rights at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
In back-to-back acceptance speeches — Gaga for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Keys for the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award — the artists directly addressed policies of the Donald Trump administration rolling back transgender rights and attacking diversity, equity, and inclusion (Dei) hiring practices.
“This is not the time to shut down the diversity of voices,” Keys declared at the podium. “We’ve seen on this stage talented, hardworking people from different backgrounds, with different points of view, and it changes the game. Dei is not a threat, it’s a gift.”

It seems Donald Trump is making awards shows political again.
After high-profile ceremonies were mostly apolitical last year as celebs grew quiet after speaking out against Trump from awards show stages in his first term, the 2025 Grammys, the first major awards show in Trump’s second term, featured a number of references to some of the most controversial actions the president has taken at the start of his second term.
Lady Gaga issued perhaps the strongest call out to Trump’s anti-trans executive orders, including a first-day proclamation that the U.S. would only recognize two genders (male and female) and that those “are not changeable.” Accepting the Grammy for best pop duo or group performance for her “Die With a Smile” duet with Bruno Mars, Gaga declared, “Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love. The queer community deserves to be lifted up. Music is love.”

Clive Davis once again filled the Beverly Hilton’s international ballroom to the brim with music industry insiders as he presented his pre-Grammy celebration and concert. As always, Saturday night’s show featured a unique mix at the microphone of legends (Joni Mitchell, Barry Manilow), rising stars (Shaboozey, Benson Boone and Teddy Swims) and rock royalty (members of Black Crowes, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Metallica).
But this year’s starry event had a new moniker on the program, billed as an “event” rather than a “gala,” due to the catastrophic Los Angeles blazes that ripped through the city last month. While the wildfires forced a pivot — the typically glamorous affair got scaled back a bit by nixing the red carpet and its crush of press and photographers — and introduced a focus on fundraising via MusiCares, music, as always, remained the start of the show. In the beginning, R.E.M. would play anywhere that would have them, from pizza parlors to gay bars to frat parties. For all the arty elusiveness of their early music, the band that would end up setting the template for the Nineties alt-rock boom was hungrier and more strategic than it might have seemed — which is just one of many revelations in Peter Ames Carlin’s illuminating new book, The Name of This Band Is R.E.M.: A Biography.
