Ha comenzado el rodaje de “Terra Alta”, la nueva serie original de Movistar Plus+ que adapta la novela homónima de Javier Cercas. Se trata de un thriller policíaco cuyo punto de partida es el asesinato de dos importantes empresarios en Cataluña con una investigación a cargo de un policía con un pasado oculto.

“Terra Alta”, situada en la comarca de la Terra Alta, en Tarragona, es un lugar de belleza salvaje, donde aún sangran las cicatrices de la Guerra Civil. Un territorio tranquilo hasta que el asesinato de Francisco y Rosa Adell, patriarcas de la familia más rica y poderosa del lugar, conmociona a todos. Este suceso hace que Melchor Marín, uno de los agentes encargados de la investigación, reviva su oscuro, complejo y olvidado pasado.

The ’70s killer crocodile flick features The Addams Family‘s Carolyn Jones, a pre-Freddy-Krueger Robert Englund, and Halloween‘s Kyle Richards.

"The Impossible" is a 2012 disaster film based on the true story of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. The movie follows the Bennett family's fight to reunite after being separated by the disaster while showcasing other survivors searching for their loved ones, including a character named Karl. Karl, played by Sönke Möhring, helps Henry Bennett find his family, and their friendship develops as they search for their loved ones, but the movie never reveals what happened to Karl's wife and daughter.

The Impossible tells the true story of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004, and Karl Schweber, played by Sönke Möhring, is one of the characters depicted trying to find his family after the disaster separated them in the film. The 2012 movie primarily revolved around the Bennett family, who were based on Enrique Álvarez, María Belón, and their children Lucas, Simón, and Tomás, and their fight to reunite following the earthquake and tsunami.

Paramount+ hasn’t set a streaming date for The Envoys (Los Enviados) season two, but they have just released the first teaser trailer for the new season. According to Paramount+, season one was so popular on the streaming service that it ranks first among Spanish-language scripted series.

The series stars Luis Gerardo Méndez (Narcos: Mexico) as Pedro Salinas and Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Narcos) as Simón Antequera. Assira Abbate, Marta Etura, Manuel Ríos, Susi Sánchez, Charo Zapardiel, Cristina Marcos, and Ricardo de Barreiro also star.

The cast also includes Isabel Naveira, Miquel Insúa, Pepo Suevos, Guillermo Carbajo, Francis Lorenzo, Carlos Olalla, and Luis Iglesia.

Emmy and Oscar winner Juan José Campanella (El Secreto de Sus Ojos) guides the series as showrunner, producer, and director. Martino Zaidelis, Camilo Antolini, and Inma Torrente also direct, with Eduardo Sacheri, Emanuel Diez, and Juan Pablo Domenech joining Campanella as writers. 100 Bares’ Muriel Cabeza and Portaocabo’s Alfonso Blanco executive produce.

Showrun and directed by Academy Award winner Juan Jose Campanella (“The Secret in Their Eyes”), burgeoning hit Paramount+ franchise “The Envoys” has gone into production on Season 2 in Galicia, North-West Spain.

Miguel Angel Silvestre (“En el corredor de la muerte”) and Luis Gerardo Méndez (“Club de Cuervos”) are reprising their roles as Vatican dispatched miracle corroborators, playing alongside Assira Abbate (“Empire of Lies”), who also starred in Season 1.

Described as a gripping thriller, Season 2 is again produced by Vis, Paramount’s international studio, in collaboration with 100 Bares, Campanella’s Buenos Aires production label and, this time round, Galicia’s A Coruña-based Portocabo. A producer on Movistar Plus+ hits “Hierro” and “Rapa,” Portocabo has also been behind pioneering premium TV co-productions with Portugal (“Dry Water”).

The near-flawless direction concentrates on the direct experience of a mother and son, who in just a couple of days learn the meaning of human concern and kindness. The line between humans and robots has been walked by, among others, "Blade Runner" and "A.I." as well as this year’s releases "Chappie" and "Ex Machina." The list gets even longer when we add films that tackle the "can a human be a computer?" question, like the excellent "Her" and the less excellent "Transcendence."

Add to this genre "Eva," which takes place in an alternate reality where humans and robots live side by side. This alternate reality is also 2014, but the movie was made in 2011. This being 2015, the film has become the past’s look at an alt-future that is also, now, the past.The film, from Spain, has been picked up by The Weinstein Company to run in selected theaters starting March 13. It stars Daniel Bruhl and Marta Etura and is directed by Kike Maillo. Check out the trailer below:

Jaume Balagueró directed [Rec], a highly effective horror film largely confined to a block of gloomy Barcelona flats plagued by carnivorous zombies. His new movie, Sleep Tight, is a psychological thriller set in a slightly superior but shabby art nouveau apartment house, also in Barcelona, which is at the mercy of an embittered concierge, César Marcos (Luis Tosar), a sad psychopath on the brink of middle age. César has it in for the world and especially the tenants he's supposed to be helping, and the picture is a frightening study of unmotivated malevolence. The person who most trusts him is the attractive, cheerful Clara (Marta Etura), and she becomes his principal victim in a campaign even nastier than the one Iago launches against Othello or the one used to destroy the innocent Gérard Depardieu in Jean de Florette. An unrelievedly nightmarish film.

Despite the friendliness of the building’s tenants, Cesar’s M.O. is to make their lives a misery – after all, as far as he’s concerned, happiness is an emotion he was born never to experience, so why should anyone else be content? His campaign of hate becomes all the more monstrous as the beautiful Clara (Marta Etura) proves unfailingly chirpy – for a while…

Working as an apartment block concierge, César takes full advantage of his position, sneaking into the flat of beautiful tenant Clara (Marta Etura) almost nightly - with the unsuspecting victim having absolutely no idea. Suspenseful thrillers used to be engaging, thought-provoking and well, suspenseful. Films of this genre have been pretty lackluster as of late except for one such gem that’s slipped through the cracks. That film is the Spanish Sleep Tight, a twisted tale that manages to scare, shock and mesmerize all in the course of its 101 minutes.

Cesar (Luis Tosar) is the concierge of an apartment building in Barcelona. He is a truly disturbed individual who believes that he has the inability to be happy. He wants everyone around him to be miserable and does so in subtle and quiet ways. He is obsessed with one tenant Clara (Marta Etura) and since she is so happy-go-lucky, he is determined to make her as miserable as he by creeping into her life.

Grimm Up North, Manchester's home of horror and cult films, is continuing its monthly movie nights in the new year, and we have all the info you need on the upcoming Mon Ami/Chop, The Tall Man/Martyrs, and Citadel/Sleep Tight screenings.

First up on January 31st are two new hilarious black comedies that have both made waves on the international film festival circuit: Mon Ami and Chop.

Director Jaume Balagueró has been making quality, dread filled horror films for some time now. Most known for co-directing both [Rec] and [Rec 2], Balagueró is an exceptionally well honed director. His films offer a focus on character and narrative development rather than conventional assisting elements like jump scares and overdone effects, a welcome trait to the horror genre.

In 1999, The Nameless introduced Balagueró’s talents to horror fans and he has continued to deliver. With Sleep Tight, a taut and inventive homage to Psycho and Peeping Tom in some regards, Balagueró solidifies himself as a genre force to be reckoned with.

Director J.A. Bayona burst onto the scene to widespread acclaim back in 2007 with the Guillermo Del Toro backed The Orphanage, an impressive ghost story filled with the classical sense of dread Del Toro himself excels out while telling a deeply personal story.
