Controversial EC Comics, which warped young minds with tales of horror and suspense and spawned spinoffs in film and TV, has returned with original stories in a new anthology series.
Oni Press has licensed the EC Comics banner and last month released its first issue, Epitaphs From the Abyss. The second, Cruel Universe, arrives this month with a focus on science fiction stories.
The EC Comics brand has a fabled history.
EC Comics stopped publishing all but its humor magazine, Mad, in 1956 because of government censorship pressures and accusations of fomenting juvenile delinquency. As a result, the Comics Code Authority was created to regulate the industry.
The new series is a partnership between Oni Press and the family of William M. Gaines, the original publisher of EC Comics, who died in1992.
EC Comics brought the world series like Tales from the Crypt and Weird Science.
Epitaphs from the Abyss #1 has stories by Brian Azzarello,...

Garfield gets a new comic look, translating his CGI movie design to the printed page. The new Garfield comic is using a traditional structure significantly longer than Davis' original strips. Garfield's design had changed drastically over time, always thanks to small changes adding up.
As Garfield gets a new comic miniseries, the greedy tabby begins a new era in the history of his ever-changing design. Officially debuting in 1978, Garfield is one of the most successful pop culture franchises in history, syndicated across the world and earning hundreds of millions of dollars a year. However, despite being recognizable all around the world, Garfield's design has undergone constant change and refinement since his first appearance.
Garfield gets a new comic look in the upcoming Garfield #1 from Boom! Studios. The four-issue series is an anthology comic set in the world of 2024's The Garfield Movie, starring Chris Pratt as the voice of Garfield.

Dark Horse Comics Editor-in-Chief Scott Allie had an in-depth chat with the Eisner Award-winning writer/artist David Lapham on a wide range of topics including his adaptation of The Strain, the upcoming Ferals, the ups and downs of the comics world, blowing off steam on Twitter, and lots more.
Scott Allie: After breaking into superhero comics, you really made a name for yourself with Stray Bullets, which did two things: It (1) established you as a brilliant crime cartoonist and (2) marked a pinnacle of self-publishing, creator-owned success.
