There’s a recurring caution that runs throughout the NetFlix limited series, Mr. McMahon. Director Chris Smith does not belabor the point, but he makes sure viewers are reminded every once in a while that almost all of what we know about the life and career of wrestling mogul Vince McMahon has been carefully curated by McMahon himself.
Consequently, even in a supposed honest examination of the man who more or less invented the concept of “sports entertainment” for the 21st century, it would be wise to question everything.
Fortunately, Chris Smith is up to the task of teasing out various strata of truth. His breakthrough documentary, American Movie (1999), remains among the greatest and most revelatory movies of the 1990s. Smith has gone on to examine the nature of fact and fiction in other projects such as Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond (2017) and Tiger King (2020). The blurring of the...

The cast of the Prison Break reboot continues to grow, and Deadline reports that Clayton Cardenas (Mayor of Kingstown), Jr Bourne (Teenwolf), Georgie Flores (Into The Dark), and Myles Bullock (Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist) have joined as series regulars.
Cardenas and Bourne were both main cast members on Mayans M.C., so this will be something of a reunion as the Prison Break reboot pilot is being written and executive-produced by Mayans M.C. co-creator Elgin James. Cardenas will play Ghost, a “ruthlessly dangerous inmate at one of the deadliest prisons in America.” Bourne will play Junior, a “mentally unstable lone survivor of a decades-old prison break that devasted the town.” Bullock will play Darius ‘Red’ Lewis, an inmate. Flores will play Andrea, a “female cadet training to be a Corrections Officer.“

Action icons Jason Statham and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are forced to join forces in this action movie spin-off, which has finally found a new streaming home. Released back in 2019, The Stath and The Rock’s Fast and Furious team-up movie, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, has not been available to stream anywhere. Which, frankly, is tantamount to cinematic sacrilege. Thankfully, streaming platform Peacock has now stepped up, adding the Hobbs and Shaw outing to its library.
Directed by David Leitch from a script by Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw takes place after the events of The Fate of the Furious and before the events of F9 and follows Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw and Dwayne Johnson Luke Hobbs as they face off against Idris Elba’s “Black Superman” Brixton Lore. Ever since reinventing itself as an action/adventure series with Fast Five, The Fast & Furious franchise has produced one commercially successful film after another, including its first stand-alone spin-off entry, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. The 2019 action vehicle starred Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as "the odd couple" of special ops mercenaries Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, respectively, a duo who reluctantly team up to take down the Black Superman (and cybernetically enhanced terrorist) Brixton Lore, played by Idris Elba.
Hobbs & Shaw grossed more than $760 million at the worldwide box office, which meant it took Universal practically no time at all to announce a sequel. In November 2019, the famed movie studio told the world that Hobbs & Shaw would ride together once again. And then came, well, a whole lot of nothing. Fans couldn’t understand why Vince McMahon would distance himself from the Netflix documentary Mr. McMahon. The series has disappointed fans who were looking to get a peek into “the real Vince McMahon” as the promo of the series had originally promised. Long-time wrestling fans found it to be the compilation of all the known controversies against the former CEO of WWE.

The squared circle is a hallowed, holy land where miracles happen right before our very eyes. An art form not only in the displays of physical agility, strength, and charismatic acting, but also in a specific brand of live theater that can make even the most fantastical situations feel real. No matter how much a person knows "wrestling is fake," a good match can make even the strongest non-believer forget the predetermined outcome, and give themselves over to the scripted dance of grappling and glory. It's also home to some carny-ass jabronis who would be fun to laugh at if they weren't so vile and dangerous.

In 2021, it was announced that a new Superman movie featuring a Black actor was in the works, igniting a wave of discussion across the community. While opinions were diverse, Henry Cavill, who previously portrayed the iconic character, expressed his strong support for the concept. He recognized that Superman, as a symbol of hope and justice, should be celebrated in all its forms and not confined to any one color.

Sam Elliott's role in Road House as Wade Garrett is one of his most iconic. The 1988 cop thriller Shakedown gave Elliott a larger leading role compared to Road House, showcasing his action star potential alongside co-star Peter Weller. Road House completed Elliott's 1980s unofficial action trilogy, alongside 1987's Fatal Beauty and Shakedown.
Road House was the end of a run of 1980s action movies for Sam Elliott, and one that followed a bizarrely specific detail. In addition to just being an incredible actor, Elliott is famed for his deep, soothing voice and trademark mustache. Most of Sam Elliott's famous roles have been in Westerns, but he's the kind of performer who has appeared in everything from moving dramas (Mask), wacky comedies (The Big Lebowski) to comic book movies (Ghost Rider). He's also got several iconic characters to his name, with Road House's Wade Garrett being high up on that list.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently opened up about one of the regrets he has.
The actor shared a video on Instagram of his father accepting a WWE belt for making pro-wrestling history in 1983 when he and Tony Atlas became the first-ever Black Heavyweight Tag Team champions. In the social media post, a young Johnson can be seen sitting in the audience after the match, celebrating his father’s win.
“Just delivering flowers to heaven to my old man, Rocky ‘Soulman’ Johnson,” the former wrestler began his lengthy caption. “He came up the hard way, and trail-blazed for all of us men of color – in any sport & level of entertainment. But it was also very important to him to pave the way for all men, any color – it didn’t matter.”
He continued, “My regret in this life is that I never had a chance to say goodbye to him, because he died suddenly.

Endeavor’s publicly traded Tko Group has named Dwayne Johnson to its board of directors, effective today. The WWE superstar has also secured full ownership of the trademarked name The Rock.
Tko is the parent company of WWE and UFC.
The name The Rock is derived from his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, who was the first Black champion in WWE history (alongside partner Tony Atlas). Johnson’s grandfather, Peter Maivia, a Samoan-American professional wrestler, was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
Rock and WWE have inked a merchandising agreement that provides for promotion, licensing, and other services.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a new Superman movie - maybe! A "Man of Steel" sequel is in the works at Warner Bros. Discovery, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In an Oct. 17 article discussing the company's plans for the DC Comics Universe on screen going forward, the outlet revealed that the company has an "intense desire" to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman in a project that would "essentially be 'Man of Steel 2.'" The movie is being produced by Charles Roven and currently looking for a writer. Popsugar reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery for comment but did not immediately hear back.
Cavill debuted as Superman, aka Clark Kent, in 2013's "Man of Steel," the only solo film for his version of the character. He reprised the role officially in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," 2017's "Justice League," and 2021's "Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Tuesday’s episode of “Young Rock” is a special one. Not only does the installment chronicle Dwayne Johnson’s first-ever WWF match, but the episode was written by those who are incredibly familiar with the events chronicled within: Johnson, Hiram Garcia and Brian Gewirtz.
The episode, titled “Corpus Christi,” marks Johnson and Garcia’s screenwriting debut, while Gewirtz was a longtime head writer for WWE. Combined, the trio distilled a wealth of knowledge and memories into a half-hour episode that also includes appearances by wrestling legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Triple H – a task that they admitted was difficult.
“There’s so much story to tell in that limited space, but Dwayne’s got a great memory when it comes to those moments – especially these moments that are so pivotal for him – so he’s a great resource for us,” Garcia (who serves as president of production at...

When Season 1 of NBC’s Young Rock came to an end, a lot of fans said they wanted more wrestling added to the mix. And that’s exactly what they’ll get when the sitcom returns for a heartfelt Season 2 this Tuesday at 8/7c.
Young Dewey will fight in the ring during a daydream sequence in the season opener, and Adrian Groulx, who plays the youngest Rock, had to rock wrestling shorts to pull off the scene. But he says it was totally worth it.

We're already hooked on CBS's Young Rock, a sitcom based on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's adolescence. Johnson's show is a hilarious look at his eccentric upbringing, and his experiences growing up with his wrestling icon dad Rocky Johnson (plus all his famous wrestling pals). It's clear from watching the premiere that Rocky served as a major inspiration for Dwayne, both as a father and an athlete. While Rocky sadly passed away in 2020, there's still so much to learn about the man, the myth, and the legend who helped raise The Rock.
Rocky Johnson, otherwise known as Soul Man, was a Canadian-American WWE hall-of-famer on the scene in the 1980s. He teamed up with fellow wrestler Tony Atlas to form "The Soul Patrol," together becoming the first African-American World Tag Team Champions in WWE history. He's famous to this day as being "the king of the drop-kick."

It's officially the first day of summer. Except, in a strange turn of world events, there are no summer movies opening this weekend. Not only that, it also happens to be the longest day of the year. Movie theaters aren't open yet, so that only leaves us PVOD and digital streaming options. But don't worry, we got you covered on this sunny Saturday with a Drive-In thriller that looks ten times awesome and deserves to be shown on a sheet in the back yard with a cheap projector you ordered off of walmart.com. Perhaps that is the only way to watch the beast of a movie that is WrestleMassacre.
Today, we have the trailer and poster for WrestleMassacre. And it's everything you'd hope for in a brainless diversion that will set you free from the social unrest facing the country, if but only for 90 minutes. Everyone needs a break...

Vince McMahon has a lot of negative qualities to him. He’s an egomaniacal, out-of-touch, petty sociopath who will chase people around the workplace with soiled underwear on a stick. Despite being an eccentric psycho, Vince still has his positives. One of them is how whenever WrestleMania comes by, he tends to treat the roster like Ebenezer Scrooge treats people on Christmas Day. WrestleMania is the biggest payday of the year and it’s a show where they try to get as many people on as possible so that even some of the lowest-ranking folks can earn some big money.
It can take many forms, from ten-man tag matches, Fatal 4-Ways, Money in the Bank, or even just tossing in a bunch of pointless singles matches featuring guys who aren’t even feuding. The most tried and true way to get a bunch of wrestlers on the show with little effort is a battle royal.

Michael Kingston is a lifelong comic book and wrestling fan. In the past, various writers have attempted to create comics that mixed the two genres, but failed in spectacular fashion. In Headlocked: The Last Territory, though, Kingston creates a realistic hero in Mike Hartman who we follow on a journey in the unforgiving business. Filled with emotion and a clear passion from its writer, Headlocked is the most realistic portrayal of wrestling in the graphic novel form to date.
For his upcoming sequel Headlocked: The Last Territory Vol. 2, we follow the continuation of Hartman’s story. Kingston has taken to Kickstarter once more to raise the funds necessary to produce the book. Teaming up with him again is wrestling legend Jerry Lawler who will be providing the cover artwork. Also joining on the project in the role of guest creators are Booker T, Rob Van Dam, A.J. Styles, John Morrison,...

Race and wrestling go together like peanut butter and jelly. When it works, Caucasian wrestler Sputnik Monroe becomes the Memphis territory’s most beloved of babyfaces by advocating for African-American fans to be allowed into buildings in order to watch him perform in the 1960s. When it doesn’t, there’s Tony Atlas as a stereotypical spear wielding African savage in the early 1990s as Saba Simba. Somewhere between these two concepts is the WWF’s Nation of Domination.
Started in 1996 as an appropriation as an angle from Memphis meant to get some steam behind Ron Simmons’ re-tooled Faarooq character, the Nation of Islam knockoff lasted for two years in the WWF, and moreso than any level of racial disharmony, the group provided an incredible springboard to create new stars like D’Lo Brown, Mark Henry, Kama (later The Godfather) and of course, The Rock.
Thus, when rumours...

The month of February is Black History Month and like usual, World Wrestling Entertainment will honor their performers throughout the month. We saw on Raw that they honored WWE Hall of Famer Ernie Ladd, who was a star in the NFL before his WWE career.
