According to data obtained by FlixPatrol, A24's "The Front Room" is currently the second most-watched movie on the streaming service, right behind Clint Eastwood's "Juror #2." Directed by the Eggers Brothers, the horror-comedy tells the story of a married woman who must protect her newborn child from her wicked mother-in-law -- a religious zealot who insists on imposing her values on everyone.

After failing to meet box office expectations, Max and Sam Eggers' directorial debut, The Front Room, has become a streaming success. When the psychological horror thriller landed in theaters in September, it was projected to gross $5 million but fell a bit flat, bringing in barely its supposed budget, $3.2 million; it also became A24's lowest-rated movie of 2024 on Rotten Tomatoes. The critically divisive film (which currently holds a 42% rating on the review site) now sits at the number two spot in Max's most streamed movies, topped only by Clint Eastwood's Juror #2.

Based on the 2016 short story of the same name by Susan Hill, The Front Room stars Brandy Norwood as Belinda, a pregnant woman whose life is thrown into disarray when her aging mother-in-law, Solange (Kathryn Hunter), moves in with Belinda and her husband. Solange's arrival creates tension; her eccentric behavior and weird demands push Belinda beyond her limits.

Wasserman Music has hired three leading industry executives, Kevin Shivers, James Rubin and Cristina Baxter. Shivers and Rubin will join the company’s Executive Leadership Team, marking its biggest leadership expansion since it launched in 2021.

The grotesque, the abominable, and an ostentatious display of Christian symbols and art make up the grammar of cringe horror in this recent A24 presentation, “The Front Room” (2024). The film also puts the narrative of hagsploitation at the forefront. The horror lies more in the very real shared experience of generational racism than in the psychological and supernatural.

Max Eggers and Sam Eggers present the film as a variation of camp horror where the secularization of the new world has brought back from the dead– or the verge of dead– an evil old KKK grandmother and put her in a shared household with her prey: an African American non-Christian daughter-in-law. The idea behind The Front Room is simple enough: a financially struggling couple that expects a baby takes an offer from husband’s widowed stepmother to support her for the rest of her life in return for her paying off their mortgage debt and bequeathing everything to them. Soon enough, it turns out that the God-fearing, old-fashioned Southern lady Solange (Kathryn Hunter) is a stepmother(-in-law) from.

Kathryn Hunter elevates everything she’s in, which goes double for a film as limp and directionless as The Front Room, the directorial debut of Max and Sam Eggers. A horror-thriller that might also be attempting comedy — it can be hard to tell — The Front Room begins with Belinda (Brandy) being forced to quit a job that undervalues her. She also has to contend with the mood swings of her husband Norman (Andrew Burnap). Then Norman’s eccentric stepmother re-enters their lives: Solange (Hunter), a self-professed psychic. She is meek and hunched over, uses two canes, and frequently soils herself — though she doesn’t let this stop her from overstepping Belinda’s personal boundaries.

What ought to be unnerving is mostly off-putting. The movie’s presentation is distant, and its animated, sitcom performances from Brandy and Burnap — which render Belinda and Norman broad and uninteresting — don’t match its attempted thrills.

The Secret of the River, or El Secreto de Rio, is a new Spanish-language drama series from Mexico on Netflix, with a fair few mystery and thriller elements thrown into it. The plot is centered around two childhood friends, Erik and Manuel, who promise to keep a grave secret between themselves when they are young boys. But years later, both their lost friendship and the threat of their secret getting discovered resurface, kicking off a major chain of events in their small village in Oaxaca. The Secret of the River deals with a number of serious social issues through the mesh of its crime thriller subplots and ultimately makes for a good watch.

Director Ellen Kuras film, which Liz Hannah, John Collee, and Marion Hume penned, doesnt live up to Winslets performance. I felt detached from Lees life for much of the film. Characters come and go including Marion Cotillard in a small, barely there role as Lees friend Solange but they arent developed enough and are often paper-thin cutouts of real people.

The “America’s Got Talent” season 19 finale on September 24 concluded with the announcement of this year’s million dollar winner. Ten acts competed in a two-hour edition of “AGT” on September 17 after earning enough votes from the public in the qualifiers. Some also needed the support of this season’s panel of judges — Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara — to make it this far.

Not even a month since A24s The Front Room premiered, the film is already heading for digital release. The horror film is now available to rent or purchase on digital platforms at $19.99 and $24.99 respectively. On paper, The Front Room had a lot of impressive talent going for it. Brandy returns to the horror circle in a film that makes a solid attempt at social commentary. The singer-actor became a cult icon for her role in the early-aughts horror sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. In The Front Room, she stars as Belinda, newly pregnant with her first child with her husband, Norman (Andrew Burnap), when they unexpectedly have to invite his estranged stepmother, Solange (Kathryn Hunter) to live with them.

Directed by Sam and Max Eggers, The Front Room is supposed to be a horror thriller, but unfortunately, the humor works better than the scare. What could have been a creepy watch turned out to be dull. Brandy Norwood and Kathryn Hunter tried to make sense of the mess, but performances alone can only do so much. Belinda, a professor in anthropology, decided to quit her job after the severe disrespect she was subjected to, primarily because of her race. She was pregnant and wanted to focus her attention on their unborn child. Belinda and Norman had lost their first child, and getting over the trauma was quite a challenge. They were hopeful about their future together, but Belinda often found herself sleepwalking, and her dreams usually turned into nightmares. We'll get more into the cost a little later. But first, let's discuss what the movie is about, who's behind it, and who's in the cast.

The Front Room is a psychological horror film written and helmed by Max and Sam Eggers in their feature film debut. Max had previously worked on the horror film The Lighthouse, co-writing the script with his brother Robert Eggers. Sam, on the other hand, is known for co-writing the script for the documentary Olympia with Harry Mavromichalis.

Like many other movies nowadays, The Front Room is based on another piece of work. In fact, it's based on the 2016 short story of the same name by Susan Hill.

Even though singing janitor Richard Goodall is the odds-on favorite to win Season 19 of “America’s Got Talent,” this competition is far from over. In fact, there is enormous online fan support for quick-change artist Solange Kardinaly, who blows the audience away each week with her eye-popping illusion act. According to Gold Derby’s winner predictions, Richard has leading 5/6 odds to prevail, while Solange is nipping at his heels in second place with 5/1 odds.

This week during the September 17 episode of “AGT,” Solange delivered arguably her best routine to date when she quick-changed her clothes multiple times all while performing various magic tricks.
