David Duchovny is open to doing a movie follow-up to his show Californication. He acknowledges that the cultural landscape has changed and the show's content may not be well-received today. Duchovny believes the heart of Californication was about family and humor, and he would love to work with the cast again.
In an exclusive chat with MovieWeb, during which we spoke with David Duchovny about his latest film, Adam the First, we took the opportunity to ask him, what with shows like Monk and Luther getting streaming movies, if he would do a movie follow-up for his show Californication. Duchovny, who starred as main character Henry James "Hank" Moody in the Showtime comedy-drama series, was very much on board with the idea...but is not so sure that audiences could stomach it anymore.

When Fox canceled Lucifer, the fan community around the crime-solving Devil didn't get mad as Hell. Thanks to a clever tweet by Lucifer actor Tom Ellis, the series was saved by Netflix rather than buried by Fox. Streaming has changed the business of television, with the Save Lucifer campaign being a model example of how shows can find life after death.
Perhaps one of the greatest strokes of irony is how a television series about Lucifer Morningstar and murderers became one the greatest examples of positivity in modern entertainment. Based on a character created for comics by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, Mike Dringenberg and M.R. Carey, the story of a show about a crime-solving Devil is an example to fan communities everywhere. Series star Tom Ellis saved Lucifer from cancellation with a cheeky tweet, but it was the positive fan community that kept it alive on Netflix.

The teen drama series Dawson's Creek could have have a completely different ending if Katie Holmes didn't put her foot down, insisting that it be changed. In the finale, Joey Potter (Holmes) was originally written to end up with Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek). That was the idea that series creator Kevin Williamson had all along, so when he returned to write the finale after previously leaving the series after season 2, he penned his desired ending with Joey and Dawson winding up together.
However, per TVLine, Holmes' displeasure over that version of the finale is documented in the new book Freaks, Gleeks, and Dawson's Creek: How 7 Teen Shows Transformed Television. According to others who worked on the show, Holmes "freaked out" over the idea of Joey getting back with Dawson, feeling at this point that her character would much rather be with Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson). Holmes requested that the ending be changed,...

Katie Holmes fought the original Dawson's Creek finale, arguing about who Joey should end up with. Created by Kevin Williamson for The WB, Dawson's Creek was centered on a group of friends living in Capeside, Massachusetts. The show, much like many coming-of-age shows in the '90s to the '00s, tackled their transition from adolescence to adulthood.
In the new book Freaks, Gleeks, and Dawson’s Creek: How 7 Teen Shows Transformed Television (via TVLine), Dawson's Creek showrunner Tom Kapinos claims that Holmes fought against Joey ending up with Dawson. Executive producer Paul Stupin shares the sentiment, saying that Pacey was the better final romantic partner for Joey. Read their quotes below:
Kapinos: “Katie freaked out. ‘I don’t want to end up with Dawson.' So it got replotted, or rewritten.”
Stupin: “If you kind of watch it, it leads you to think Dawson [is The One], and then I think Katie...

“Lucifer” has long been a ratings driver and Season 5 has been no exception: Netflix subscribers spent over one billion minutes viewing the series, which released the second half of Season 5 on the streaming service earlier this year.
That statistic comes from Nielsen, which stated that “Lucifer” was watched for 1.284 billion minutes from May 24 to May 30. The popularity of “Lucifer” is such that the show garnered more viewing minutes than the second and third most-watched show’s of the week — Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method” and “Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous” — during that time period.
Nielsen’s data is only based on United States audiences using TV sets and only covers Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+. The company releases its streaming data reports on a roughly one-month delay due to an arrangement with the aforementioned streaming services. The entertainment industry’s major streaming services do not regularly release their own verifiable viewership data.

“It’s always more fun to play a baddie,” Tom Ellis declares with a knowing grin about playing the titular Devil on Netflix’s blockbuster fantasy drama “Lucifer.” For our recent webchat, he adds, “It is cathartic in a way, as an actor, to be able to play a character that says everything that you probably would want to say in real life, but can’t get away with saying.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

The “Lucifer” Season 5B premiere date has risen. Netflix revealed Monday that the second half of the fifth season of the Tom Ellis-led drama will launch May 28.
That upcoming installment of “Lucifer” is set as the show’s penultimate, following Netflix’s June 2020 renewal of “Lucifer” for a sixth and final season. The eight-episode Part 1 of Season 5 launched last August.
“Imagine running a marathon and then getting right to the end and then they go, ‘Oh, by the way, the finish line is a little bit further.'” That’s how Ellis, who plays Lucifer Morningstar, described to TheWrap Netflix’s decision to renew “Lucifer” for a sixth and final season, after previously picking it up for a fifth and final season, after rescuing it for a fourth season following its cancellation at Fox after its third season.

Netflix dropped the trailer for the first half of Season 5 of “Lucifer” on Monday, revealing that Lucifer (Tom Ellis) will be returning from hell much sooner than you probably anticipated. Oh, wait, that’s because it’s not actually Lucifer — it’s his evil twin, Michael.
In the trailer for Season 5A, which you can watch via the video above, Chloe (Lauren German) is trying desperately to move on with her life after Lucifer’s decision to return to run his fiery kingdom at the end of Season 4. She has been focusing on work and hanging with Maz (Lesley-Ann Brandt) in hopes of healing — and then Lucifer pops right back up from the depths of hell. Except, um, we soon find out that who we think is Lucifer is his twin — and a rather evil one at that — Michael.
Here’s the official description for the first half of “Lucifer” Season 5, which launches Aug.

“Lucifer” will live on, with Netflix announcing that they have renewed the show for a sixth and final season. The announcement was made on social media Tuesday morning.
This now marks the second time the show has been renewed for a “final” season at Netflix. After airing on Fox for three years before being canceled, Netflix revived it for a fourth season in 2018. It was announced last year that Season 5 would be the last. The show made a tongue-in-cheek reference to its surprising longevity, saying Season 6 will be the “Final final” season in making the announcement. No episode count was announced with the renewal. The longest season to date was Season 3 on Fox, which was 26 episodes.

Netflix has saved “Lucifer” once again. The streaming service has renewed the Tom Ellis-led drama for a sixth season and final season after previously announcing the show’s upcoming fifth season, which premieres this August, would be its final.
The announcement was made via a tweet from the show’s official account Tuesday morning: “the devil made us do it. #lucifer will return for a sixth and final season. like, Final final.”
Netflix resurrected “Lucifer” back in June 2018, picking the series up for a fourth season after it had been canceled by Fox. Season 4 debuted on the streaming service almost a year later, in May 2019, and one month after the launch, Netflix renewed “Lucifer” for a 16-episode fifth and final season set to debut in 2020.

Netflix has finally set the premiere date for the first half of Season 5 of “Lucifer” with an announcement that is missing any mention of this being the show’s final season.

Lucifer season 6 might just be the most “confirmed” season of television that hasn’t actually been officially confirmed yet.
Deadline reported today that Netflix has closed a deal with Lucifer star Tom Ellis to appear in season 6 of the show, all but guaranteeing that the series will indeed be getting a sixth season. Netflix now has deals in place with the entire cast and executive producers/showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson.
The news should be particularly joyous to Lucifer fans as it was previously reported that a contract dispute between Ellis and Netflix was the only thing holding up a Lucifer season 6 renewal. News broke back in April that Ellis had engaged Netflix in contract negotiations for a pay raise, despite already being contracted for a sixth season. At that point it seemed as though both parties were deeply dug in and there would be no hope of resolution.

All is not well over in hell…and Netflix
TV Line reports that Lucifer season 6 may not move forward due to a pay dispute between star Tom Ellis and studio Warner Bros. TV.
Ellis is reportedly still under contract for a sixth season of the show but both he and Warner Bros. have engaged in talks about a pay raise. Now those talks have broken down with one TV Line source reporting ominously “Everyone wants Tom to be happy. But there’s a limit, and it’s been reached.” Contract and pay disputes sometimes happen behind closed doors in the television industry. But this one has reached a boiling point that threatens Lucifer’s future.
Suffice it to say, the star of a show that bears his character’s name is likely to have a lot of leverage in contract negotiations. The issue for Ellis, and Lucifer fans at large,...

Hallelujah! Netflix has blessed the fifth and final season of “Lucifer” with an additional six episodes, bringing the grand total for the supernatural drama’s last run to 16.
The streaming service announced last month that it would end the Tom Ellis-led drama with a 10-episode fifth and final season to launch in 2020. No premiere date has been given for what is now a 16-episode Season 5.
“Lucifer” Season 4 dropped May 8 on Netflix, close to a year after the streamer revived the show following its cancellation at Fox. The 10-episode fourth season ended with one hell of a cliffhanger, which Ellis broke down for TheWrap here.

Fox today made the bulk of its new series pickups, ordering four dramas — Prodigal Son, starring Tom Payne and Michael Sheen; neXt, starring John Slattery police drama Deputy, headlined by Stephen Dorff; the Annie Weisman/Jason Katims sister drama; based on an Australian format — and comedy Outmatched (fka Geniuses).
That leaves two more drama pilots and three comedy ones. While I hear Fox is yet to give official passes, most of the remaining pilots are not going forward at the network.

Fox just made its first new series pickups, ordering four of its six drama pilots to series. That includes cop/serial killer drama Prodigal Son, starring Tom Payne and Michael Sheen; John Slattery’s AI drama neXt; police drama Deputy, headlined by Stephen Dorff; and the Annie Weisman/Jason Katims sister drama; based on an Australian format.
The drama competition at Fox had been fierce virtually from the start with five of the six pilots emerging as solid contenders. The fifth in the group — soapy family drama Filthy Rich, headlined by Kim Cattrall, which is considered a suitable companion to Empire — remains in contention with deals being worked out.
The mass pickup of new drama series at Fox, which only ordered two new hourlong shows last year, is not good news for the network’s bubble dramas, Lethal Weapon, The Passage and Star.
Fox Orders Live-Action Comedy Series ‘Outmatched’ and Animated ‘The Great North’
I hear Fox’s sixth drama pilot, Tom Kapinos’ Lovestruck, is not going forward at the network. But the show, whose first season takes place over the course of single night at a wedding, reportedly had tested well and has been well received within 20th Century Fox TV, which is expected to shop it elsewhere, similarly to its 2018 Fox pilot Mixtape, which was picked up to series by Netflix.
Of the newly picked-up Fox dramas, one, neXt (plus Filthy Rich), comes from Fox’s former corporate sibling 20th Century Fox TV. The others come from other studios, Warner Bros. TV (Prodigal Son), Universal TV (Weisman/Katims) and eOne (Deputy), underlining the now-independent network’s commitment to work with all suppliers. All are co-productions with Fox Entertainment. The Fox drama lineup also includes top acting talent with Sheen, Slattery and Dorff.
The pickup of Prodigal Son makes it 3-for-3 for Berlanti Prods., with all three of the company’s broadcast pilots this season going to series, including the CW’s Batwoman and Katy Keene.
Prodigal Son passed one of the biggest tests for a pilot – recasting its lead, with Payne replacing originally cast Finn Jones after the pilot read. Payne and Sheen, who plays his father, proved a formidable duo, drawing praise for their acting — especially Sheen who has a showcase role as a notorious serial killer.
2019 Fox Pilots and Series Orders
Police drama Deputy has been praised for Dorff’s acting and the directing work of Bright helmer David Ayer. eOne secured Dorff in what might be the biggest talent deal so far this broadcast pilot season. Dorff will reportedly be paid north of $200,000 an episode. If the show goes to a second season, Dorff would become an executive producer. In conjunction with his casting in Deputy, Dorff made a feature script development deal with eOne to develop and star in a movie, which would be produced by Ayer and Chris Long’s Cedar Park Entertainment.
The four dramas join two comedies picked up to series today by Fox, Outmatched (fka Geniuses) and animated half-hour The Great North. and previously ordered straight-to-series animated comedies Bless the Harts and Duncanville.
Here are detailed descriptions and credits for Fox’s newly picked up drama series:

Deckstar fans might be taken aback by the Season 4 trailer for “Lucifer,” which reveals Chloe (Lauren German) is seemingly Ok after seeing Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) true face — but that doesn’t mean she can accept him for who he truly is. You know who can, though? His “first love” Eve (Inbar Lavi). That’s right, Eve, of Adam and Eve.
The one-minute, 56-second trailer, released by Netflix on Thursday, we see the Detective return from a trip after discovering Lucifer actually is the Devil himself at the end of Season 3. And because she just wants to get back to work, Lucifer decides she’s clearly in denial. However, it starts to become clear — very quickly — something else is going on with Chloe, and she may not be ready for all this heaven and hell business after all. Enter: Eve.

The fourth season of “Lucifer” debuts next month, and whether you are a Lucifan who just needs a quick series-refresher or someone who has literally no idea what the Tom Ellis-led drama is about, Netflix has you covered with a crash course on Seasons 1-3.
Or, more specifically, the Devil himself does. In a promo released by the streaming service Friday, Lucifer (Ellis) recaps the first three seasons of the former Fox series ahead of the show’s Season 4 launch on its new platform on May 8.
“You know, Lucifer used to be God’s favorite Angel. Those were the days. Oh, where to start. Well, I’m the Devil,” Lucifer says, as he pours himself a drink before launching into his three-season recap, which you can view below.
And once you’re all caught up thanks to Ellis, here’s the description for Season 4: “Reeling from the aftermath...

So much smiling is going on in our first look at “Lucifer” Season 4, but we can’t yet tell if any of it is good.
In new photos released from the former-Fox drama’s upcoming fourth season of Netflix on Thursday, which you can view below, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is hanging with two very different ladies: Eve (Inbar Lavi) and Chloe (Lauren German). And while Chloe appears to be smiling at Lucifer in a forgiving way that is going to tug at Team Deckstar fans’ heartstrings in the most sinful way possible, Eve’s smirky intro is equally entertaining.
Here’s the description for Season 4: “Reeling from the aftermath of Chloe seeing his devil face, Lucifer faces a new challenge: Eve, the original sinner herself, is back. Does she want revenge for when he tempted her out of Eden oh so many years ago … or something else entirely?...

As Andy Warhol famously never said: “In the future, every arena-sized music act of the 20th century will get its own ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ for 115 minutes.” The truth of those apocryphal words was obvious even before the execrable Queen biopic grossed almost a billion dollars; the age of infinite content doesn’t offer enough bandwidth for actual creation, so most of our pop culture has to be exhumed from the past (a phenomenon made literal by the sustained explosion of true crime stories). It was all fun and games — sequels and reboots — until someone figured out that music could be a magic bullet for mainstream biopics, and then — wham! — the next thing we knew, Rami Malek had won Best Actor for cosplaying as Freddie Mercury in a movie that supposedly directed itself.
This might not be so bad if every band got the “Bohemian Rhapsody” that it deserved. By that logic,...

Spoiler Alert: This review contains details of the movie version of The Dirt
Having taken decades to make it to the screen, you kind of knew any adaptation of Mötley Crüe’s 2001 memoir The Dirt was going to be problematic, to put it politely.
Infamy has a tiring tendency to downgrade over time to just being lame, which truly is the greatest praise one can heap on this Jeff Tremaine directed pic that debuted today on Netflix. Perhaps due from the limited requirements of his past gigs helming the often hilarious but plotless Jackass movies, Tremaine delivers set-ups in The Dirt, but no actual story besides an elongated Behind The Music.
The fact is Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, ankylosing spondylitis suffering Mick Mars and Vince Neil deserved better. On board as producers, the battle-scarred bass player, drummer, guitarist and singer have earned a movie that confessionally puts it all out there,...
