Heavyweight producers Amy Pascal David Heyman are said to be being lined up by Amazon MGM Studios to head up the future of the James Bond franchise.Amazon recently took creative control of the series from long-time 007 custodians Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, and Variety has reported the apparent negotiations with Amy and David as speculation continues to grow among fans over who will fill Daniel Craig’s shoes as the next actor to take on the spy role.Amy, 66, is the former head of Sony Pictures and has since established herself as one of Hollywood’s leading producers, working on films such as ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Little Women’. At Sony, she was involved in the studio’s distribution of several Bond films, including 2012’s ‘Skyfall’, which remains the highest-grossing film in the franchise’s history. David, 62, is best known for producing the ‘Harry Potter’ series and its ‘Fantastic Beasts’ spin-offs,...

I hope Hollywood mega-producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman take their martinis shaken, not stirred. Why? If things go according to plan, they could be the new overseers of Amazon MGM Studios‘ James Bond franchise. According to multiple reports, Pascal, who, while at Sony, brought the best-grossing Bond films to theaters with Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Spectre, and Skyfall, and Heyman, who sits at the head of the table for Warner’s Harry Potter franchise, could gain control of 007’s future after Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson step down.
Genre film lovers know Pascal as the mastermind of Sony’s animated Spider-Verse movies and the studio’s Spider-Man films, which starred Tom Holland as the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler. Pascal helped weave the web of Spider-Man: No Way Home, an event film that grossed $1.95 billion and became the seventh highest-grossing film ever.

Netflix obviously had the highest of hopes for Anthony and Joe Russo's feature adaptation of Simon Stålenhag's graphic novel "The Electric State." The sci-fi/action film's reported $320 million budget is the biggest in the streamer's history, and, if nothing else, its trailers promised massive visual spectacle worthy of a studio summer tentpole. With streaming sensations Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown in the lead roles, it felt like "The Electric State" was a preordained, critic-proof smash.
It's probably fair to say Netflix wasn't expecting the onslaught of viciously negative reviews that greeted "The Electric State" prior to its March 14 debut. Critics really, really hated the movie (it currently holds a 15% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes), and it's possible this negative reaction impacted Netflix subscribers' desire to give the film a whirl at home. It's either that or they simply thought the movie looked profoundly uninteresting.

The James Bond franchise could be homing in on its new creative team with reports suggesting that Amazon have already engaged with two high-profile producers with a long history of working with big IPs to usher in the new era of Bond.
According to Puck, former Harry Potter producer David Heyman, and Amy Pascal, who worked on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy have been approached to take the creative helm of the franchise, and unless something goes terribly wrong, Amazon execs are said to be set on making this dream team the next keepers of the Bond flame.
As well as producing several Harry Potter movies, Heyman was part of the production team on Barbie and Wonka, while Pascal was previously involved in Daniel Craig’s Bond movies, making her an easy choice to step into the breach left by the long-term team of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Kraven the Hunteris one of the most fun Sony Spider-Man Universe (Ssu) movies--for all the wrong reasons. The Spider-Man-adjacent film marks the live-action debut of Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), one of Marvel Comics' most iconic supervillains. Unfortunately for fans of the character, Kraven doesn't quite live up to expectations in his first big-screen appearance.
In typical Ssu fashion, Kraven the Hunter became infamous for its ridiculous moments, shoddy writing, and subpar CGI, all coalescing together into a terrifically terrible viewing experience. As awful as the film is, there is something intrinsically enjoyable about making fun of it. From terribly written lines to strange unscripted noises, these are the most unintentionally hilarious moments in Kraven the Hunter.

Fans of Bridgerton and French literature rejoice, as Season 1 standout Regé-Jean Page is working with independent production company Department M on an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. The announcement — via an exclusive report from Deadline — shared that Pagewill not only star in the film, but also produce it, alongside his producing partner Emily Brown under their A Mighty Stranger banner. Also on board to bring the classic tale of revenge to life is writer Patrick Ness, who also penned Chaos Walking and A Monster Calls.
The Count of Monte Cristo is the story of Edmond Dantès, a man falsely accused of treason, who is thrown into the grim prison Château d'If without trial. Dantès learns from fellow prisoner, Abbé Faria, about the location of a fabulous treasure and, after escaping and finding the cache of wealth, becomes part of high society and enters the world of...

Streaming is loosely fulfilling a role that home video once had — to rescue box office bombs from complete and utter failure. Granted, streaming numbers mean nothing, the platforms don't necessarily report accurate viewership numbers, and even if they do, they no longer provide the second financial life that can save movies from total ruin like DVD once did. With how quickly movies are hitting streaming after their initial theatrical release these days, a lot of people just wait for a new movie to hit Netflix or another platform to view it rather than bet their money on it being good and watch it in theaters
Case in point, the strange, confounding case of "Kraven the Hunter" being a big success on Netflix after being a horrendous box office flop in theaters. The movie somehow had an even worse opening weekend than "Madame Web," which tells you everything you need to...

It’s quite a week for stunning new entries into the top five most-viewed movies and shows on Netflix. The lists on Tudum have been updated and highlight some very recent releases. Those have added an edge and been popular with viewers, one doing so in spectacular numbers.
The top five shows include a new tough-to-stomach drama with remarkable direction and camerawork. The show has been a major talking point for viewers this week and has had a huge number of views. It’s joined by two other new releases and a couple of recent favorites.
On the movie list, one new release has been much-awaited but may be a letdown if the critics are right. But then the viewers themselves have the real say, and it has attracted plenty of them so far. Once again there is plenty of variety and something for all the family among the top five movies.

Sony's Kraven the Hunter lands on Netflix's Top 10 Movies list just a few months after bombing at the box office. As the McU's Phase 5 continues to develop, Sony's Spider-Man Universe has apparently come to an end following the overwhelmingly poor reception of Madame Weband Kraven the Hunter, as well as Venom: The Last Dance's disappointing box office results and reviews in comparison to Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Despite Kraven the Hunter's appalling theatrical run, the last installment in Sony's Spider-Man Universe has landed the third spot on Netflix's Top 10 Movies list. As of March 18, 2025, Kraven the Hunter has collected 7.1 million views and 15 million hours viewed. Kraven the Hunter's stats are only topped by Plankton: The Movie and #2 and The Electric State at #1.

Kraven the Hunter is part of Sony's Spider-Man Universe. The film was the third addition to the Ssu in 2024 and didn't live up to its potential, becoming a major flop after poor initial reviews.
Luckily, streaming services prove there's an audience for every film and Kraven the Hunter has found its prey. Since its disastrous release in theaters, the movie, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character, has found a lot of success online. Following its release on Netflix, Kraven the Hunter has become a hit, Tudum reveals.
The movie premiered on Netflix on Mar. 13, and for the week between Mar. 10 and 16, the movie climbed up the charts globally. It received 7.1 million views and 15 million hours viewed in just three days on the platform. The numbers become even more impressive, as the film reached the third spot globally and is available only in one territory — the U.S.

Every movie trailer has a clear job. In a couple of minutes, it needs to convey what a movie's about, show off the famous faces in it, and what viewers can generally expect from the plot. Of course, there are various ways this can go horribly awry. It feels like many trailers these days, especially for high-profile blockbusters, give away far too much of the plot. It's like watching the Cliffnotes version before the film's even in theaters. But at least with that the audience knows what it's getting to a ridiculous degree. However, some trailers don't just hide what the movie's about, and they outright lie to audiences.
This has gotten various studios in trouble over the years. In 2022, fans sued Universal for false advertising with the "Yesterday" trailer, which included scenes starring Ana de Armas, but the actress is nowhere to be found in the film itself. There...

As a post-apocalyptic story, 28 Years Later owes a lot to The Last of Us franchise. Returning screenwriter Alex Garland recently spoke with the series' co-showrunner and co-game creator Neil Druckmann about their respective IPs, revealing how each inspired the other in their own way.
Speaking via a Sony Creator to Creator video, Druckmann acknowledged the "direct line between the fast infected and the Infected in The Last of Us" on account of both monsters being sick, while Garland discussed how he wrote the sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later in line with Druckmann's storytelling. He originally had an idea in which "the heroes were Chinese Special Forces and the UK had been quarantined. China had also discovered that the virus had been weaponized."
"In order to protect themselves against that weapon, they had to get to a lab in the UK where the virus was created.

There's nothing quite like when a Marvel movie arrives in theaters. The sheer aura of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has resulted in must-see movie moments that brings audiences of all ages together to see what their favorite superheroes - and supervillains - have been getting up to. It's a movement at this point, and it's one that has persisted for almost two decades.
Now, whenever a Marvel Comics character headlines a major movie, there is intrigue and excitement from fans, all of whom wonder if the larger-than-life entity will be at the forefront of a massive success story. Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu) went out with a whimper because its final film entry simply couldn’t hunt up enough business at the box office. However, there is a reason Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s take on the titular Spidey comic book character in Kraven the Hunter went belly up in theaters, and that’s because critics and theatergoers alike appropriately responded to the movie’s poor storytelling. Today, though, Kraven is at long last enjoying some success as the film has cracked Netflix’s Top 10 Movies in the United States chart at No. 1 as of Friday, Mar. 14.
Poor reviews from the critics led to the inferior Kraven the Hunter registering the second-worst Tomatometer rating (15%) of the Ssu on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a dubious score it still shares with the Jared Leto-led Morbius. However, Kraven and Morbius' 15% still isn’t as bad as Madame Web’s lowly 11%. Despite the low numbers,...

A horror remake starring Bill Skarsgård has just become a success on streaming after walking away empty-handed at the Oscars. After appearing in movies like Allegiant (2016) and Atomic Blonde (2017), Skarsgård rocketed to fame with the release of It in 2017, a Stephen King adaptation that featured the actor taking on the role of Pennywise the Clown to terrifying effect. The film was a massive horror hit, and Skarsgård reprised his role in 2019's It Chapter Two.
Skarsgård isn't ready to say goodbye to Pennywise just yet, however, and he's set to play the monster once more in HBO's Welcome to Derry prequel show. James Bond's Moneypenny star lists the qualities necessary in the next “male or female” 007, when the character returns in Bond 26. Times are changing for the venerable spy movie series, following Amazon MGM Studios’ Bond franchise acquisition from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson’s Eon Productions. It’s yet to be seen what happens with Bond 26 casting as the series passes into a new set of creative hands, but Amazon’s stewardship would seem to open a larger array of possibilities than Broccoli and Wilson were ever willing to consider, including the chance of a female Bond.
A gender-swapped Bond would indeed be a game-changer for the 007 franchise, but the series’ Moneypenny star Naomie Harris thinks there are certain bedrock qualities the next Bond actor must have, regardless of whether they’re male or female, and she recently listed them (via Radio Times):

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has carefully built its brand over the last decade and a half, and over the course of that time, standout characters have become fan-favorites. One of those fan-favorites was Wanda Maximoff, aka The Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. Wanda's first full appearance (so not counting that post-credit scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier) was in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Olsen played Wanda alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Pietro Maximoff, Wanda's twin. Though Wanda wouldn't officially hear of the label The Scarlet Witch until WandaVision, Olsen has played the character several times over the last decade.

It's almost a given for horror fans to compare their favorite movies/shows. But, no one expected Alex Garland, the writer of 28 Days Later, to compare his own movie to HBO's hit The Last of Us series. Not only did Garland pit the two franchises against each other, he actually thinks the video game adaptation is better. Both IPs are gearing up for their next releases, with 28 Years Later releasing on Jun. 20, and The Last of Us Season 2 premiering on HBO on Apr. 13.
During an interview with The Last of Us video game's creator Neil Druckmann for Sony, Garland discussed the similarities and comparisons between both zombie franchises. 28 Days Later is one of the most lauded zombie movies of all time, but Garland admitted that The Last of Us is that much better than his own movie. "Let me say this: The Last of Us is better than 28 Days [Later]," he revealed.

Jack Quaid is a charming lead as a man who can’t feel pain but this high-concept caper brings low-level enjoyment
We’re in the thick of an ongoing movie star crisis and it’s one that no amount of “Glen Powell grinning on a red carpet” images can easily fix. His rise might have been a rare spot of good news on that front but it’s otherwise been a rough period for the emergence of true, crowd-drawing leads, a problem across many genres that’s recently been felt most in the action sphere. The last year has seen Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, Bill Skarsgård, Dev Patel and, last month, Ke Huy Quan face a mixture of critical shrugs and audience lack of interest while those more established, such as Gerard Butler, Keanu Reeves and Jason Statham, have continued to dominate.

Brad Pitt has been a consistent presence in blockbuster action comedies for the better part of the past two decades. After rising to fame for dramatic roles during the 1990s – such as in A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Interview with the Vampire, Seven, and Fight Club – Pitt found further commercial success by starring in the Ocean's trilogy of heist comedies. He further solidified his status as a leading man in blockbuster action movies like Troy, the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and World War Z.
In 2020, Pitt won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He's also received Oscar nominations for his performances in 12 Monkeys, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Moneyball. Emma Laird has gotten to work with some top-shelf talent of late. Last year, she was part of the cast of The Brutalist, featuring Best Actor winner Adrien Brody, and returned to Mayor of Kingstown, led by Jeremy Renner. Before that, in 2023, her career united her with Kenneth Branagh, Michelle Yeoh, Tom Holland, and Amanda Seyfried between A Haunting in Venice and The Crowded Room. Her luck in the actor lottery has yet to run out too, as she's due to join a star-studded cast in Cary Joji Fukunaga's Blood in Snow, featuring her upcoming 28 Years Later co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson at the top of the call sheet. With all the talent involved, the actress has high hopes that the film won't just be a success, but a gratifying experience for her thanks to the team's wonderful personalities.

Netflix brings Kraven the Hunter to your home this Thursday. Allow him to enter at your own risk, as this appears to be the film that killed not only Spider-Man but also the non-Spider-Man Spider-Verse.
Sony's Spider-Man films were, on the whole, a pretty solid group. They got much better once they finally accepted assistance from Marvel Studios, beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming. But those Spider-verse movies without Spidey? I mean, the first Venom was okay, but after that? Yeesh. And they got yeeshier as they went along.
Let me put it this way. The reputation of these movies is so bad that Netflix has been essentially dumping them onto their schedule. Venom: The Last Dance debuted on February 25th with little advance notice at all. The streaming giant did the same with Madame Web nearly a year ago, on May 14th. Both films performed much better on streaming than they did at movie theaters.

James Bond is one of the most famous literary and movie characters of all time. The Bond film franchise is one of the longest-running ones (it started in 1962 with Dr. No), which goes to show just how important James Bond is as a pop culture icon.
But, as you probably know, the franchise has gone through a series of shake-ups recently as Amazon bought the rights to the Bond franchise and effectively kicked out Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who spearheaded the franchise for decades, making Bond into the icon he is today.

Right now, the hallowed James Bond franchise feels in a tighter spot than becoming strapped to a table as a laser beam inches toward your nethers. Since Daniel Craig’s retirement as the legendary superspy, the fate of 007 is a giant question mark. Whether it’s deciding who the next Bond should be or the act of moving ahead with a British Secret Intelligence Service television series, the situation appears aimless and exhausting. According to a write-up from The Hollywood Reporter, fans can chalk much of the ire up to hurt feelings and a lack of a clear creative direction.

Jeff Bezos Wanted to Remove Barbara Broccoli After She Called Amazon Execs ‘F**king Idiots’ — Report
Jeff Bezos wasted no time in buying out longtime James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli after an alleged slight.
In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon CEO Bezos was determined to take all creative control for the IP through Amazon MGM Studios — which was announced in February 2025 for a reported cost of $1 billion. Fueling that price tag? Sheer retaliation.
In December 2024, The Wall Street Journal published a piece in which Broccoli is quoted as telling her personal friends that Amazon executives were “fucking idiots” amid dealings with the Bond franchise.
As THR now stated, Bezos “read her quote in the Journal and got on the phone and said, ‘I don’t care what it costs, get rid of her,'” according to an unnamed insider. The outlet further included how Broccoli bristled when Amazon content chief Jennifer Salke referred to Bond films as “content,” and Broccoli’s half-brother Michael G. Wilson...

Longlegs and The Monkey director Osgood Perkins is shaken and stirred after a Reddit Ama (via Indiewire) in which a fan asked if he’d be interested in directing a James Bond movie. “Are you open to directing a Bond movie/trilogy? If so, who would you cast as your version of Bond?” Perkins quickly replied, “No, because fuck Jeff Bezos.”
The vibes of Osgood’s response to the question are definitive, as the in-demand filmmaker made no bones about vocalizing his distaste for the Amazon figurehead. Perkins’s comments follow a spat of confusion regarding the future of the James Bond franchise. In late February, Amazon MGM Studios and longtime Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced a shift in leadership as they ceded creative control over to Amazon. Under the new deal, Wilson, Broccoli, and Amazon would share co-ownership of Bond, with Amazon deciding the franchise’s fate and direction.

So it stands to reason that there would be a considerable level of interest in his love life.
But unlike most popular young stars, the commentary surrounding Aaron’s marriage is more contemptuous than envious.

Go Behind the Scenes of Alex Garland’s ‘Warfare’ with Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, and Charles Melton
After “Civil War,” Alex Garland is still staying on the battlefront. The filmmaker next co-directs the upcoming A24 military drama-thriller “Warfare” alongside real-life Navy Seal veteran Ray Mendoza. The duo also both co-wrote the feature.
“Warfare” stars Oscar nominee Charles Melton, plus Kit Connor, Will Poulter, Noah Centineo, and Michael Gandolfini. The film is told in real time and following a platoon of American Navy SEALs as they occupy the home of an Iraqi family during war.
Per an official synopsis, the film “embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, over-watching the movement of U.S. forces through insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.”
