From Ghostface to a paranormal DJ? Deadline reports that the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) are teaming up with Paul Giamatti for a biopic about the late Art Bell. Best known as the founder and original host of Coast to Coast Am, Bell would field unscreened calls from all sorts of people, listening to stories of alien abduction, conspiracy theories, strange creatures, and just about everything you could imagine.
According to Deadline, several studios, including Universal, Amazon, and Warner Bros., are bidding on the Art Bell biopic. Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves are writing the script. This is a bit of a different project from the team that has given us Ready or Not, Abigail, and two Scream movies, but it has the potential to be quite interesting. Plus, I could watch Paul Giamatti do just about anything.

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to balance high stakes, conflict, and healthy relationships in romantic movies. Toxic couples who fight all the time and break up and then get back together can be exciting in a movie, but there's something special about mature, functional relationships. Healthy couples respect each other's autonomy, communicate effectively, and appreciate each person's unique qualities.
A romance doesn't have to be boring to be mature and refreshingly kind. They exist in even the goofiest and most entertaining comedies, like George of the Jungle. There are many ways to depict happy relationships, and these movie couples prove that love on the big screen can be healthy and scintillating.

The first word heard in “Feeling Randy” is “boner,” which, when taken together with the film’s title, promises a salacious and raunchy comedy. But writer-director Dean Lent’s debut feature (not counting the 1987 anthology film “Border Radio”) is sweeter and much more sublime than the usual teenage-boys-trying-to-lose-their-virginity romp. That may be its plot, but this semiautobiographical project is far from films like “Porky’s” or “American Pie.” Set in the Bay Area in the 1970s, “Feeling Randy” offers a humorous and sensitive portrayal of coming to terms with one’s sexuality.
Announcing its irreverent tone through sly chapter titles written in period-appropriate Recoleta font, and a droll voiceover from its eponymous lead (Reid Miller), “Feeling Randy” wastes no time establishing its premise and then keeps the narrative rhythm flowing. The setup is simple: Four teenage boys plan to lose their virginity by taking a road trip to a Nevada brothel.

In the last seven years, there has been a positive glut of "Star Trek" introduced into the world. Just as the Upn launched with the debut of "Star Trek: Voyager in 1995," so did the new streaming service CBS All Access launch with the debut of "Star Trek: Discovery" in 2017. This was the first "Star Trek" TV series on the airwaves since the cancelation of "Star Trek: Enterprise" in 2005, and many Trekkies were eager to see if the franchise could be restarted. An entirely new creative team had taken over "Star Trek," and they sought to update the decades-old series for a streaming audience.
"Discovery," we would later learn, was only one of many "Star Trek" projects that would debut on CBS All Access — later renamed Paramount+ — over the next few years. To keep people subscribed, Paramount produced "Short Treks." As a hook for fans of "Star Trek: The Next Generation,...

Aubrey Plaza's new dramedy with a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score tops a movies streaming chart. Starting her career in improv and sketch comedy, Plaza rose to prominence on Parks and Recreation as the sarcastic and deadpan April Ludgate, establishing her distinct comedic style. On television, Plaza has also showcased her range as a strait-laced lawyer in The White Lotus season 2, earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and starred in the Marvel miniseries Agatha All Along.
In film, Plaza started with a supporting role in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and graduated on to leading roles in independent films, such as the Sundance hit Safety Not Guaranteed. In addition to starring, she started producing with The Little Hours and Ingrid Goes West, both black comedies, and also expanded her range to thrillers, starring in Black Bear and Emily the Criminal, all of which screened at Sundance.

What were you like when you were 18 years old, high on the feeling that your life was a blank canvas spread out in front of you, and you could throw whatever paint splatters you wanted on it? Maybe, like Elliott (Maisy Stella), the hero of My Old Ass, you were literally high on more than a feeling, courtesy of some mushrooms that her best friends Ro (Kerrice Brooks) and Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler) procured. It’s the summer before she’s leaving her rural hometown in the backwoods of Ontario for...

There have been a lot of Star Trek shows coming out in the past few years, but few have captured hearts and minds like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This prequel series follows Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew aboard the USS Enterprise, filling in the years before Captain James T. Kirk took over the ship in the original series. After experimenting with weightier storytelling in Star Trek Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, Strange New Worlds signified a return to form for the franchise with its adventure-of-the-week episodes and lighter tone.
It's obvious that Paramount+ knows it's got a hit on its hands, because Strange New Worlds has already aired two seasons and has a third on the way in 2025. But that's not all! The show also got an early renewal for season 4 all the way back in April of 2024, so we've known for a while now that we've...

As we enter into the Fall movie season, it’s time for an intimate lil’ “indie” that explores a theme that several blockbusters have also explored, time travel. Now this one isn’t focusing on the travel and his gadgets and gizmos aplenty, so we don’t get those “Pym Particles” or even that super-charged DeLorean. The intriguing premise presented here is a spin on “what if”, namely the Twilight Zone dream of getting a “drop in’ from your future self. And somehow this “out there” idea meshes with a coming of age dramatics, and a “rom-com”. It’s a challenging “balancing act” that is somehow propped up by a crude and quirky cellphone contact entered in as My Old Ass, and we’re not talking about a donkey.

My Old Ass is a wild, genre-bending adventure directed by Megan Park, blending stoner comedy, sci-fi, melodrama, and even a hint of Hallmark-style sentimentality. Park’s sophomore film, following her thoughtful debut The Fallout, offers a more absurdist take on adolescence — this time with time travel, a picturesque lake town, and the ever-charming Aubrey Plaza.
The film centres on Elliot (Maisy Stella), a small-town teen in her last summer before heading off to college, and her older, time-traveling self (Plaza), who comes back to offer guidance and support.
The Muskoka, Ontario, setting gives the movie a postcard-level charm, creating a perfect contrast with the sillier moments of the film, where pansexual stoner vibes and time-bending high jinks come into play.
While it flirts with surrealism, Park’s film manages to avoid falling into outright chaos. Instead, it uses its more bizarre elements, like Plaza’s effortlessly offbeat energy, to anchor the emotional beats.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “My Old Ass,” a new film release featuring Aubrey Plaza as a “time traveling” 39 year old, and written/directed by Megan Park. In Chicago theaters on September 20th, everywhere on September 27th.
Rating: 4.5/5.0
Maisy Stella is Elliott, who has just graduated from high school and is anticipating college, plus she’s having many make-out sessions with her best gal Ro (Kerrice Brooks). When her and Ro indulge in a psychedelic mushroom trip, Elliott’s older 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) emerges through the trippy portal to confront young E and steer her life path. One piece of advice given? … avoid at all costs a guy named Chad (Percy Hynes White). Despite this, a meet-cute happens with, you guessed it, Chad. How will the teen Elliott react when she has a key clue to her future?

While the film My Old Ass may present itself as a goofy comedy exploring what it would be like to be a coming-of-age teenager meeting an older version of herself, it is instead a more existential and heartfelt drama that explores the choices that shape our lives and whether those choices should be second-guessed, ignored, or blindly followed.
On her eighteenth birthday, Elliot (Maisy Stella) embarks on a weekend camping trip with two friends – Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler) and Ro (Kerrice Brooks) – wherein they, among other typical girl’s night out fare, partake of some hallucinogenic mushrooms that bring Maisy face-to-face with her 39-year-old self (played by Aubrey Plaza) who blatantly warns her to stay away from a mysterious boy named Chad that she has never met. Then, of course, the next day, she meets Chad and the advice doesn’t seem as unbelievable as it did just one day earlier.

Most of you would love to be able to converse with your future or former selves. I know I would. That brings us to My Old Ass. This charming and occasionally heartbreaking flick tells the story of a girl named Elliott (Maisy Stella) and her 39-year-old self, played by Aubrey Plaza. It’s a terrific feature from the very talented filmmaker Megan Park. It’s a bright, honest, bold story that offers Stella the chance to shine in the leading role. The actress is stunning in an authentic and emotional take on a young woman discovering herself. As for the wonderfully funny Plaza, she gave another one of her terrific performances. When covering interviews, frequently, the talent sets the mood. And the mood for the My Old Ass interviews was celebratory. Megan Park, along with Maisy Stella – who I remember as Connie Britton’s daughter in Nashville. Yes, I watched...

Megan Park's coming-of-age drama, My Old Ass, is currently available in select theaters and will be released everywhere on September 27. Filmed and set in Muskoka, the movie follows 18-year-old Elliott, played by Maisy Stella, who meets the 39-year-old version of herself while taking mushrooms with her friends. The older woman appears jaded, prompting Elliott to heed her warnings about the future. But when her future self's advice causes Elliott to question her current feelings, she starts down a reflective path that takes her to unexplored regions.

Imagine if your 39-year-old self magically appeared when you were a teenager and gave life-changing advice about the future. Would you heed those warnings? Or throw caution to the wind and boldly proceed into probable heartbreak and devastation? This is the wonderfully creative and poignantly executed premise of My Old Ass. Writer/director Megan Park captures the vibrancy and optimism of youth, but then offers a thoughtful reality check about the pitfalls of growing up. What we hold dear and take for granted can easily be lost. Time is an unforgiving master. Park wisely teaches to treasure your friends and loved ones in the present.

Growing up sucks. Time seems to move faster than we can reasonably keep pace with, the crushing disappointment of reality never quite lives up to our naïve expectations, and even the fondest of memories can fade and turn into deep wells of regret. None of these are particularly profound observations for anyone legally old enough to drink, and they're certainly nothing that countless movies haven't already addressed in every conceivable way. So when yet another R-rated coming-of-age dramedy pops up on the radar -- centered on the well-worn trope of an idealistic 18-year-old relishing her last summer at home before moving away to bigger and better things in the city -- a healthy dose of skepticism would appear to be fair game. Even a talent like Megan Park, whose directorial debut "The Fallout" instantly made her a name worth paying attention to, would be hard-pressed to wring anything new out of this premise.

In Megan Park’s My Old Ass, Elliott (Maisy Stella) celebrates her 18th birthday by wandering off to a nearby forest with her two besties, Ro (Kerrice Brooks) and Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler), to do mushrooms. Meanwhile, her deflated parents (Maria Dizzia and Alain Goulem) look sorrowfully at the surprise birthday cake they prepared for her, wondering how much they’ll see of their daughter before she heads off to college in three weeks. It’s not that Elliott doesn’t love her family, or even her annoying brothers, Max (Seth Isaac Johnson) and Spencer (Carter Trozzolo), but the queer spitfire is yearning to break free—and to have the sorts of experiences that aren’t possible in the small Canadian town in which she was raised.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy features a mix of new and familiar faces, including stars from previous series. Production has officially begun on the upcoming Paramount+ series, as revealed by new set photos. A new generation of cadets will navigate life and professional challenges, offering a more optimistic journey compared to other Star Trek shows.
Newcomers and familiar faces come together in a new photo to kick off the production of the next Star Trek series, Starfleet Academy. While Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is on the way and Discovery came to a close after five seasons last May, the upcoming series will see a new generation of cadets navigate the challenges that come with life and a career in Starfleet. Despite a new young cast being the focus, stars from both Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Voyager will join forces on-screen.
