Erika Barraza grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area to El Salvadoran parents of Maya indigenous heritage. She is a first generation American, fluent in Latin American Spanish.
She started acting at age 12 in a middle school production of you're a god man charlie brown. She began vocal training as a Mezzo-Soprano Belter, specializing in Jazz and Musical Theater styles. In addition to actor film and theater training, she also holds a Masters Degree in Social Entrepreneurship. A lifelong athlete, she is an advanced competitive swimmer, trained in boxing, rock climbing and yoga.
In 2015 she began producing and directing virtual reality experiences that place a focus on using the medium to elevate social justice stories. She has also lent her voice to multiple virtual reality films and/or experiences; in 2019 she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. She has trained in several acting techniques including, Meisner, Method, Motion Capture, Virtual Production, and Stunts.
