The crime drama genre is never-ending, with new shows taking over television screens every now and then. In this, the CBS Network will definitely reign supreme, given that it has some of the most beloved crime dramas out there. From the gripping storytelling of CSI to NCIS, which is one of the longest-running shows out there, the network is a boon for a crime genre fan. While some shows have managed to continue for a very long time, others have had to put a stop in between.

One of the most influential box office failures of the 21st century, Grindhouse spawned several spin-off movies in addition to reintroducing a vintage aesthetic that has been mimicked by countless other throwback movies in its wake.

9-1-1 is known for its high-octane civilian rescues, but the first-responder drama isn’t afraid to put its own characters in danger. Since its pilot season in 2018, the procedural following fire (Lafd), police (LAPD), and dispatch (Ladc) has put nearly all of its main cast into peril. Due to the very nature of the series, it's no surprise that so many of them have had more than their fair share of close calls over the years.
While a lucky few have gone relatively unscathed thus far, most characters have had at least one near-death experience, with some even having to endure multiple dire situations. Still, there’s no telling when or how disaster will strike; no character is totally safe. The potentially fatal situations in 9-1-1 are so iconic that 9-1-1’s second spinoff needs to think about the threats its characters will face as much as the characters themselves.

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, ABC's 9-1-1 is a procedural show that follows the work and personal lives of the firefighters at the 118 and their colleagues at the LAPD and the 9-1-1 dispatch center. Now in its eighth season, 9-1-1 has found its niche in stories that bring serious emotional impact, bizarre disasters, and moments that make the audience laugh. This article contains spoilers for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 8, "Wannabes"
The fall finale of 9-1-1 season 8 feels like an episode that could have aired during the show's Fox era. If there is one observation about the show's move to ABC, it's that there has been more focus on the lives of the main characters over the outlandish emergencies that earned the franchise its reputation. The emergencies in the fall finale, titled "Wannabes", aren't too wild. But there are quite a few of them, which doesn't leave room for any major developments. At least until a surprising scene in the closing minutes.
Things get messy for the 118 following a massive pile explosion. Meanwhile, Athena investigates a brutal beating of a man found behind a grocery store, and Bobby's working relationship with Brad from 'Hotshots' just got a little more intimate.
Cast Corinne Massiah, Gavin McHugh, Marcanthonee Reis, Ryan Guzman,...

Since 9-1-1 began in 2018, one of the things it has been great at is taking its characters on important journeys. From learning to forgive themselves to finding room in their lives for love and friendship, the characters created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear have grown exponentially in the 8 seasons the show has been on the air, and it's clear they're not done. 9-1-1 has some of our favorite relationships on TV right now. In fact, three members of the 118 are in long-term, stable, loving marriages that also showcase strong partnerships. The other two firefighters are still figuring things out. That includes Buck (Oliver Stark), who hasn’t had the best of luck with love and is currently dating fellow first responder Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.). When TV Insider caught up with Stark about the most recent episode and got some teases about the obstacles coming Buck and Tommy’s way, we had to wonder: Does Buck want a relationship like the others—Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena (Angela Bassett), Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi), and Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms)—have, with the romance and partnership right now, or is he still figuring that out? “I think everybody wants someone that obviously they have the romance with,...

If ABC's 9-1-1 is known for anything, it's enormous disasters, bizarre emergencies, and powerful love stories. Whether it's the quick coupling of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) and Athena Grant (Angela Bassett), the long-term marriage of Henrietta "Hen" Wilson (Aisha Hinds) and Karen Wilson (Tracie Thoms), or the tragedy-ridden relationship between Maddie Buckley (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Howard "Chimney" Han (Kenneth Choi), who finally got married in Season 7, 9-1-1 builds complex, real relationships that fans love. That's true for both romantic and platonic relationships, which is part of what makes the show so special.
One of the strongest relationships on the show is the one between Evan "Buck" Buckley (Oliver Stark) and Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman). It's a friendship that many fans would love to see turn into more, especially now that Buck is openly bisexual -- even if Eddie is still considered straight. Many reporters since the beginning of...

This season of 9-1-1 has not been smooth sailing for the Wilson family.
After fighting to bring Mara home on 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 4, you may have assumed that the Wilsons would have a lowkey evening in the Halloween follow-up installment, but that wasn’t the case.

Also, there was that situation with Buck (Oliver Stark), who broke out in boils after unintentionally getting a real corpse for the teams Halloween festival. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 5 “Masks.”] 9-1-1 celebrates Halloween in the way only it can: with hijinks, wild cases, and an emergency that hits way too close to home. The good news: Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen’s (Tracie Thoms) son Denny (Declan Pratt) is going to be okay after getting pinned when a car hits him. Also in this episode, Buck (Oliver Stark) breaks out in boils after accidentally getting a real corpse for the 118’s Halloween festival. 9-1-1‘s Halloween episodes “are always fun,” Stark tells TV Insider in the video interview above. “This one in particular, there was something about it I think because we all got to be in costumes, which I don’t think we’ve done before. That made it feel like an extra fun experience.” Getting the makeup for the boils, however, was not. “One of the challenges of the episode was trying to...

Oh, readers, TV Fanatic has got some news for you. Madeline Matlock will finally have her day in the sun and in court. Who says you can’t bring criminals to justice and have an AARP membership at the same time?
Although it may not be all rainbows and smiles, as you’ll see in the promo, Madeline is not thrilled about the opportunity. Then again, she did want Olympia’s trust.
One thing we can count on is that not everything will be as it seems on Matlock. The series has done everything it can to keep audiences on their toes.

Given that the wheels have only started turning, viewers have a whole season of twists and turns to look forward to.

We may have gotten the answer to the long-simmering question as to why the townspeople don’t talk to one another during From Season 3 Episode 5.

Coming out of From Season 3 Episode 4, you could sense that everyone was even more on edge, and that’s to be expected after the night they had.
Holding a meeting, especially in light of Tabitha’s return, was the right call if only to avoid the inevitable whisper down the lane set to start immediately. But when you get a bunch of frustrated and terrified people in a room, things devolve rather quickly.

In Three Women, Season 1 Episode 6, all three leading ladies—Lina, Sloane, and Maggie—strived to find happiness and freedom.
This installment featured some raw and sexy lovemaking scenes and romantic drama, which is a huge plus.
However, returning to showcasing all three stories simultaneously did not work since it switched to another arc as soon as I began to invest in one.

The general theme of this episode was about love, sex, and orgasms, ranging from an innocent girl’s first time to learning how to feel cherished again.
Can A Marriage Survive a Partner Like Will?
I love Sloane and Will’s chemistry, but it’s difficult to like her sometimes when Richard is such a devoted husband. She wants to have her cake and eat it, too.
Richard adored her, so he changed his mind after seeing how Will transformed their backyard into a winter wonderland for a sledding party.

We have a lot to look forward to on the next episode of High Potential. Fun, exotic animals are coming our way, and what will surely be another big brother speech from Karadec.
Considering the next episode will have plenty of fun animals, we’ll get the full breadth and width of Morgan’s zoology knowledge. Teach us something new, Miss Morgan.

Hen and Karen Wilson have seen their fair share of struggles throughout eight-plus seasons of 9-1-1.

The episode title said it all, because as you’ll see from my Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 4 review, this one really was for the girls.
Unfortunately, the hour was packed with heartbreak, but we saw that coming.
There was very little levity since the episode centered around Mika’s sister’s diagnosis, but we did get to enjoy one or two bright spots.
(Disney/Anne Marie Fox) Ben Warren, the Intern? Resident?
Warren is officially back in his scrubs, and his first shift went pretty horribly.

Unfortunately, the hour was packed with heartbreak, but we saw that coming.
There was very little levity since the episode centered around Mika’s sister’s diagnosis, but we did get to enjoy one or two bright spots.

This show may be starting to find its way.
It’s still deeply unserious, all over the place, and I can’t for the life of me figure out what they’re doing with this love triangle they start and stop every week, but Doctor Odyssey is entertaining.
And isn’t that all you really ask for in the end?
(Disney/Ray Mickshaw)
Coming off of Doctor Odyssey Season 1 Episode 3, which was rather sad, Doctor Odyssey Season 1 Episode 4 was a much more lighthearted affair, and that’s with the inclusion of a hurricane.
Wellness Week was basically an excuse for the series to tap into the social media culture of flat tummy teas and other products you see all over Instagram and TikTok these days, meant to help you lose weight or live a healthier lifestyle.

‘9-1-1’: Aisha Hinds & Tracie Thoms Talk Hen & Karen’s ‘Fractured’ Family and Shocking Secret Weapon
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 4 “No Place Like Home.”] Oh, that episode title is so fitting! 9-1-1 ends on such a happy note that we admittedly can’t help but be worried about what could be coming. But first, the joy: Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) get Mara [Askyler Bell] back, Gerrard (Brian Thompson) leaves the 118 to go work at Hotshots, and Bobby (Peter Krause) returns to the 118 as its rightful captain. And all of that is connected! Councilwoman Ortiz (Veronica Falcón) was responsible for putting Gerrard at the 118 in the first place, to ruin Hen’s life, and once Bobby appeals to Gerrard about what’s in his best interest, the other man records Ortiz (on the body cameras she wanted the firefighters to wear!) detailing her vendetta against Hen, who plays that during a hearing to shut down the 118 completely to help with budget cuts. To celebrate, TV ...

Coming off an opening emergency for the ages, 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 2 settled back into the characters.
Family has always been the main thread of the series, from the flesh-and-blood variety to found family and everything in between.
This was an hour not only about family but also about home. Bringing family home, wanting family home, and finding the perfect home for a family.
(Disney/Christopher Willard )
The bee-nado/plane crash extravaganza was an excellent start to this season, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t ready to get back into the character journeys.
The characters will always be the heartbeat of the series, and while the hours heavy on the action are necessary and welcome on a show like 9-1-1, it’s also nice to have more character-driven hours.
Or a healthy mixture of both.
After surviving another brush with danger, Athena was in full house-hunting mode,...

ABC's 9-1-1, which began airing its 8th season on September 26th, 2024, follows the work and personal lives of first responders in Los Angeles. Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) leads the team at the Lafd's Station 118, which includes firefighters Evan "Buck" Buckley (Oliver Stark) and Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) and firefighter-paramedics Howard "Chimney" Han (Kenneth Choi) and Henrietta "Hen" Wilson (Aisha Hinds). They work closely with the LAPD, specifically Sargeant Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett), who is also married to Captain Nash, and the 9-1-1 dispatch center, which includes Maddie Buckley Han (Jennifer Love Hewitt), who is Buck's older sister and Chimney's wife.
Beyond being a family themselves, members of the 118 have occasionally brought members of their family into the work they do as first responders. Maddie showed up in 9-1-1's Season 2, Episode 1, "Under Pressure," and was planning to leave Los Angeles before Buck convinced...

A lot happened in Season 7 of “9-1-1”: Buck (Oliver Stark) got a boyfriend after realizing he was also attracted to men and Chim (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) finally got married after the groom went Mia on their wedding day, while other characters faced death, loss and more dramatic life-changing events.
Here are some of the key developments to remember ahead of the Season 8 premiere:

Buck began dating fellow firefighter Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr) after realizing that his feelings for the dashing chopper pilot went beyond mere friendship. The casts of 9-1-1 and Jury Duty faced off in the latest episode of Celebrity Family Feud, and we have to admit, at the beginning, we didn’t see how the former could win. Oliver Stark, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds, Tracie Thoms, and Bryan Safi from 9-1-1, playing for the American Red Cross, faced off against Ronald Gladden, Cassandra Blair, Maria Russell, David Brown, Susan Berger, and Edy Modica from Jury Duty, playing for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles. Stark and Gladden faced off first. “We asked 100 men, fill in the blank, you know a date’s not into you if she ____ after you kiss her,” host Steve Harvey said. Stark rang in first with “comes up with an excuse,” but it wasn’t on the board. “Pulls out her phone,” Gladden said, and it, too, wasn’t on the board. Then it went to Guzman,...

After debuting in January 2018, 9-1-1 quickly became a rising star for Fox thanks to its big disasters, notable cast members, and emotional storylines. Then, after six successful seasons, Fox canceled the show. Despite being Fox's top-rated scripted series with adults 1849, the show was also one of Fox's most expensive shows, with episodes costing a rumored $9-$10 million each after cast salaries, impressive stunts, and elaborate visual effects. Lucky for the cast and crew, 9-1-1 was developed when Fox and then-20th Century Fox were part of the same company. When Disney acquired some of Fox's assets, it included the TV studio, now called 20th TV, meaning that 9-1-1 had a parent company that was happy to take the show to its new network, ABC.

Los Angeles is about to go full “Wicker Man” thanks to the first teaser for “9-1-1” Season 8. The upcoming installment — as well as its bee-themed three-part opener — will premiere on ABC on Sept. 26. New episodes will be available to stream the following day on Hulu and Disney+
So far, the “9-1-1” team has tackled tsunamis, earthquakes, floods and a bouncy castle that flew away. But this time around, their natural disaster foe is 22 million killer bees. Set to Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight,” the 30-second teaser starts with Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) taking a 9-1-1 call. The camera then immediately snaps to show a truck exploding as it carries multiple crates.
“That truck was hauling 22 million killer bees,” a fellow dispatcher tells Maddie.
“Enough bees to kill …?” she asks.
“Forty-four thousand people.”
As this version of “In the Air Tonight” becomes more frantic, the camera shows people wildly swatting at their faces.

The first teaser trailer for 9-1-1 season 8 reveals the show's upcoming disaster. Though its high-profile move from Fox to ABC was disrupted by the writers' and actors' strikes of 2023, resulting in fewer episodes, the return of the first-responder drama still managed to include a lot of personal development for the characters. It sets the stage for a very intriguing 9-1-1 season 8, now less than a month away from debuting.
ABC has now shared the first teaser trailer for 9-1-1 season 8, ahead of the show's return on Thursday, September 26 on ABC at 8 Pm Est.

UnREAL is now on Netflix, but fans may be wondering if the season 4 finale works as a series finale. Just what happens in this wild drama?
Caution: This article contains heavy Spoilers for UnREAL seasons 1-4
Debuting on Lifetime in 2015, UnREAL is set around a fictional reality TV dating show called Everlasting. The series goes behind the scenes of that show, focusing on executive producer Quinn King (Constance Zimmer), who will go to any lengths to produce a better show for ratings. That includes manipulating people, setting up crazy situations on camera, and even covering up the illegal activities going on around.
Aiding Quinn is Rachel Goldberg (Shiri Appleby), a producer recovering from a breakdown. While at first not happy with Quinn's actions, Rachel is soon heavily involved in Quinn's scheming and proves to be just as adept at doing anything it takes to get the show going.

Slashers are a staple of the horror genre. When we think about this lovably formulaic narrative trope we imagine masked killers, sharp knives, and final girls who find empowerment by picking up the killer’s weapon and refuse to play a part in someone else’s story. What we don’t often think about is cars. Typical slasher villains are more likely to be seen hiding in bushes or lurking on the edges of a placid lake than behind the wheel of a tricked out stunt car. But not in Quentin Tarantino’s world. Since ABC's 9-1-1 began airing in 2018 -- originally on Fox -- the police officers, dispatch workers, and firefighters serving Los Angeles have faced both the bizarre and the ordinary. They've pulled people from the wreckage after tsunamis and earthquakes, helped people hide from home invaders and fight off abusive spouses, put out everything from house fires to factory fires, and even once fought off hissing alpacas in a souvenir store. The men and women of the NYPD, 9-1-1 dispatch, and Station 118 have also dealt with inconceivable personal tragedies, supported one another in life-changing decisions, and fallen madly, irrevocably in love.
While many of the firefighters from the 118 have experienced love over the show's seven seasons, and there are fan-favorite couples like Henrietta "Hen" Wilson (Aisha Hinds) and Karen Wilson (Tracie Thoms) and Maddie Buckley (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Howard "Chimney" Han (Kenneth Choi), at the head of the 118's...

Disney is reportedly developing a sequel to the popular comedy-drama movie The Devil Wears Prada, which was originally based on Lauren Weisbergers 2003 novel. This comes after 18 years since the first installment had made its theatrical debut.
Per Puck, Disney has enlisted the original movies scribe Aline Brosh McKenna to pen the sequel, which is said to be in the early phase of development. The outlets sources note that The Devil Wears Prada stars Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are expected to reprise their respective roles as Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton in the sequel after producer Wendy Finerman convinced them to sign on. The episode began with the 118 and Tommy receiving medals for their heroics during the cruise ship disaster that kicked off the season—Bobby (Peter Krause), notably, didn’t think he deserved the recognition and made his feelings known during his speech—and this cut moment comes from the reception after (during which Bobby put in his resignation and Captain Gerrard showed he’s still a horrible person). “Where are you going with this?” Hen asks Tommy in the video, which you can watch in the Instagram post below. As one of the most pure auteurs working in Hollywood today, Quentin Tarantino's films bear the unmistakable imprint of his vision and mad genius. He has written every movie that he's directed but also authored scripts produced by other filmmakers, which still carry that signature Tarantino style. His penchant for colorful dialog is a dead giveaway that he's had a hand in something.
Following the success of Reservoir Dogs, Tarantino became a hot commodity, and his unproduced screenplays were snapped up, but he was also given several uncredited writing gigs to punch up listless stories. From films as diverse as Crimson Tide to the SNL stinker, It's Pat, Tarantino has played the script doctor. The real meat of his career, however, is the interesting stories and eclectic characters that have flowed from his scripts to the big screen.

A Cold Case revival might finally get the CBS crime drama the recognition it's always deserved -- but more than that, it's exactly what would spice up a predictable genre. Detective Lilly Rush and her colleagues were a breath of fresh air when Cold Case premiered in 2003, and they developed a loyal fan base over seven seasons and more than 150 episodes because they didn't do things the procedural way.
