Last Party tells the story of Angela, Alexander, Lily, and Ethan who attend a graduation party at their common friend Romain’s house. There’s drugs and alcohol involved, of course, but the presence of a peculiar entity is what pushes these characters to confront what is actually troubling them. All of these kids try their best to enjoy the night, but given how they are about to start the next chapter of their lives, they don’t have any other option but to tackle their inner demons. I sat down for a virtual chat with the director of the film, Nicolas Dozol, who explained the process of making Last Party has been shot in one continuous take, his cinematic influences, and more.

There are two types of confusing movies. On one hand are those films that do confuse you while keeping you entertained so that even if you don’t “get it,” the viewing experience feels fruitful. I am talking about I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Under the Skin, Primer, Vanilla Sky, Lost Highway, and what I consider my arch-nemesis, Enemy. I’ve rewatched these films more than I have rewatched some of my...

Swiss Films previewed four films to industry guests at a special event hosted by Locarno Pro, the industry section of Locarno Film Festival, showcasing generational range and genre diversity. The selection included the new film by Carmen Jaquier, the director of “Thunder,” which was announced this week as the Swiss entry in the international feature film category of the Academy Awards.
Talking to Variety, Jaquier said: “I’m very honored about this news and excited to imagine how to work on the Oscar campaign for ‘Thunder.’ Then I’m also thrilled to prepare the release of the next project “Les Paradis des Diane” with my co-director Jan Gassmann. We are looking forward to having some interesting and maybe controversial discussions about the movie.”
“Les Paradis des Diane” tells the story of a woman who, suffering from postpartum depression, leaves her home, her new baby and family, and flees to Portugal.
